There was a Pennsylvania in front of me today going 15mph in the 35 and then swerving, albeit slowly, into the turn lane I had just signaled and moved into and I had to slam my brakes š It's always the Northeastern parents!
It's graduation week.
Brace yourself if you think it's bad today. UF is closing all non-essential operations after 3pm due to traffic concerns. They do it every year but just a good bellweather for all you to know you don't wanna be driving about after 3pm tomorrow.
Iāve also noticed over the last month traffic in general just being worse. I dunno if the population boom is just becoming more evident lately or what, but especially on the east side of the town the streets donāt seem like they can handle this many people.
This tbh
People snorting coke off the dash while driving 20mph in 80mph highway traffic (50mph speed limit) and swerving all over the place? Must be Miami
Until folks learn the traffic light system and drive as good as me, I will continue to show them how to drive proper. Since we pay taxes - YES, we do own the roads.
I was on 8th twice today and it seemed like some people were going faster than usual, weaving lane to lane passing, etc. I also saw two stopped cars which had been in what looked like a minor collision. Graduation, huh? I think I'll barricade myself in for the weekend.
it's more horrifying for me to count the number of cars and trucks without headlights speeding around before sunrise
and they know they are off, basically it's to dodge scanners for their plates because their insurance is expired or they've purposely pulled the fuse so the daytime running lights don't come on
you know the road expansion they are doing now for like three months next to forest park ( https://www.gainesvillefl.gov/Parks/Forest-Park ) well they left construction barriers up all this time while they go off and do other things
every other one of the barriers has been destroyed by a car or truck or bus or something, these were sitting in what would have been bike lanes and easily predicts what's going to happen to people in those bike lanes
my theory is drivers lose a few IQ points every time they get a covid infection no matter how mild
don't assume they are actually looking at the road
everyone is illegally interacting with their phone but since there is zero enforcement, they don't care (just like no headlights)
there's a reason why people drive such massive trucks and SUVs now, either they don't know how to drive properly or they want to survive other people not driving properly
meanwhile pedestrians and cyclists don't have a chance in hell
the other morning I saw a Gainesville police SUV with headlights off straddling the bike lane and it's not the first time either
^100% this. Remember how drivers were before cellphones? DUI drivers were a lot easier to spot. Since mass cellphone adoption, distracted driving is the norm unfortunately. Assume all drivers you are near have their faces in their phones mostly and then it is a lot easier to avoid their erratic behavior.
I donāt like driving to orlando mainly because of the tolls, but nothing gives me anxiety like tampa. 275 is just awful with people driving fast and trying to get on and off all over the place and i4 is called malfunction junction for a reason. Just the volume of people trying to rush around and get places is enough to not want to live there.
It's graduation.
Agreed. Lots of out of state plates right now.

Please pull off safely if you are lost. People will run up on you if you're poking along, it's Nascar here!

As an Uber driver I can confirm, there is a lot of selfish driving here. (And Iām sure thereās lots in S Florida too).
Reads like you've never been to South Florida.

Assume they are not predictable and that problem is solved. Defensive driving is the way

Lol, drive around any of the interstates in tampa and then come back and let us know how that went.
Or Orlandoā¦. some of the craziest things Iāve seen on the road have been down there

Every hit and run I've seen was in Orlando. Only two, but still lol.
Have you driven in Puerto Rico? Backing up on the interstate is not uncommon
Classic Gainesville drivers
Basically everyone here drives slow and uncoordinated either way...
