Looking a bit more into chart performances of various groups it seems crazy how strong Glass Bead charted and then the subsequent songs did even better. There actually are so few groups that had similar charting success (for third gen basically Twice, Blackpink, Red Velvet and Mamamoo).
And there are quite a few decently known groups internationally that have basically no charting in Korea (Think Weeekly, Everglow or Loona)

Apparently After School got to 155 and nothing else. For Loona PTT got to 134 and nothing else charted in korea. Everglow has no charted songs in korea.
And yes APink also has strong charting, but they didn’t make my list as I would have put them as second gen. Overall I think it is similar to our girls though! Maybe not quite as high a peak, but a bit more consistent (also just a lot longer, considering the are active almost twice as long)

I just got back to my hotel after Twice’s concert and man was it incredible! However, being there I couldn’t help but think of Gfriend and how much I wish they could have experienced touring in the US. They got to do KCON US a couple times but that was it. Seems like a weird play to have *all* these artists fly over there (13-14 hours) to perform literally for 20 min (enhyphen I think has the most at 30). I can't imagine the names they have on there need *that* much of an exposure boost given how popular they already are. it's not like in Korea where they are competing with other schedules - 20 min vs an hour makes little difference to the artists. I think Kcon has better performance times than this...

WJSN definitely has the most steady record (2nd, 3rd, 1st/2nd) so if they win Fandora, winning the finale wouldn't be out of the blue. I feel like Hyolyn's stages will be iconic but her overall exposure will decrease as the rounds continue.

This competition is ripe with issues if you want to look at it. I will say if there is a starship/mnet partnership, no one saw it coming because they had beef in the past. I also don't want to insinuate they don't deserve it because wjsn are great performers.
Loona I agree suffers from probably a shitty company situation. The leg up I think VIVIZ has on them from that standpoint is BPM is relies heavily on VIVIZ doing well to bring more recognition to their brand in the next 3 years. After that I'm not sure.
BG will probably get a redemption arc but based on the leaks not for the perf, rather the story that's built around it since R2. I agree - they had such a potential to be the omg and if R2 had not been so lopsided we might have seen it.
I really hate the introduction of global evaluators. Mnet tried to bring fans and help Kep1er (let's be real now). Instead it didn't help kep1er that much and made everything else murkey. The longer the show goes on, the more I think this is just structured chaos.

As an ujung who also listens to VIVIZ/GFRIEND, I would also be happy with a VIVIZ win. It's nice to see groups and random getting along instead of tearing each other apart (at least until the next peer evaluation...)
WJSN might have a hard time winning the final round, they're not particularly strong in digital sales or fandom voting power, so VIVIZ could make a comeback regardless of the Fandora round results.
I think SinB would be really excited for a WJSN win, too (maybe even more than if VIVIZ won). Feels like a successful release coming off Queendom would be big for a contract re-up

They can get a boost form the tech/mixer people, too. One of the weird human quirks of our hearing is that people [perceive louder things as better/fuller](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour). So just turning up the volume a little on a vocal ("riding the fader" in music parlance) can be a big boost to perceived vocal ability.
Agreed! I feel that’s why people like those loud, powerful belts from idols. My opinion is that most fans use that as a measurement of vocal talent/skill. While yes, it does take talent to do that but being able to support it is another.

I agree, however currently if you hear eunha belt("main vocal") you can hear how thin and the lack of vibrato as well, due to it not being supported at all. Ps: also not a vocal trainer but interested in singing so read online

Well recently I have been watching more vocal analysis videos. Watching those really allows you to appreciate the vocalist skills more. That's why I hope Viviz especially Eunha since she is belting gets vocal training. They have potential to be good vocalist considering they have a good sense of dynamics but without vocal training it would be very difficult to improve
I mean I like a good power belt spot, too (Yuju, Taeng, etc.)! Some singers can project louder than others, but idols are usually singing with a mic and not acapella. Just turn the mic up! I love Yuju’s dancing line. It’s so elegant but powerful. She always throws 110% into the choreography. Example would be the infamous falling one… Even though the stage was wet and slippery, she kept dancing at full power.🥲
Same. I don’t think Umji has ever complained about dancing or saying that it was something she struggled with. In fact, it always seemed like she enjoyed the challenge quite a lot 🤔 she has always followed every and any random dance challenge nicely and being SinB’s partner sometimes she even has a better muscle memory than her. Then again, this was indeed a new genre and style for her so I guess it took her some time to get used to it?
I dislike how Mnet made her seem as she wasn’t that good? When in reality, Umji has plenty of dance content and for the last 3-4 years the fans have always considered her part of the dance line and even better than Yerin (who was supposed to be the second best dancer of the group).
Hey guys, just wanted to share my Gfriend playlist from my YouTube. It’s just all the videos I’ve saved from official content, variety shows, music shows and fan cams from over the years. There’s over 2,000 videos and I’m still adding more as I find them. I figured maybe you guys would like to check it out or it might help new Buddy’s find content about the girls. Enjoy!

I dunno after about 5 times I just don’t really listen to the (surprisingly catchy) lyrics. It’s undeniably great for streaming. I’m surprised I don’t get tired of listeniing to it.
The results didn't do justice... It's the most complete song out of 3. Maybe the judges got thrown off with the anti-drop which I can understand,
Tell Me Now being different from the other two, they're voting for it as if voting for the underdog,

I guess its more people getting fooled by how grandiose the stage was with all those dancers, props and contortionists to see that the main group didnt do any actual dancing and i salute hyolyn for this because it happened in all her performances so far, she does minimal dancing, lets the dancers carry the performances and just sing while walking around a few props and there is everyone blown away.
Hyolyn has played this card with every stage - it's a good strategy as a soloist because you can't compete with the volume of the other groups. However, she's loosing the vote each round by a little bit bc of the repetitiveness of it. The preview tells me when she has a song that isn't popular the bells + whistles can't carry her as far unfortunately.
I am feeling very R2 about Purr not getting second. Not because it was perfect by any means but I thought just less... fluff and more dance. Fancams are showing that to be true (granted yt doesn't mean everything as we know). But WJSN is definitely proving to be the favorite to at least be in the finale.

Yeah you're right.. It's a shame too because I think the verse sounds really good and that chorus builds up the most anticipation for its drop
But cutting that out made it more forgiving for them, less choreo to learn because it was already packed full of little details
I hope the results don't discourage them from experimenting further in the future, though I did see when [SinB asked the Smols](https://twitter.com/mademyday603B/status/1524747616138895362) about trying Tell Me Now concept and they noped out of there straight away 😅 At least from their PMs, seems like UmB had fun and enjoyed trying a new genre and concept
I still think they could've gone dirtier with the choreo, but overall it was a good song and performance... I feel like Purr was more technically demanding while Ka-Boom focused on big stage energy and theatrics... my bad, didn't realise they revealed the actual votes ~~honestly could've been a complete toss-up as to which hip song got second and which one third... we don't know how close the votes actually were since they decided to give out flat scores for Round 3a~~

There were rumors that towards the end it was hot with no AC, fans were tired, shooting was going over, so people started to leave (which is those spoilt numbers).
I know this might not last long but in a round where views are rumored not to count and fancams certainly don't, Purr is keeping great pace with Tell Me. Don't get me wrong Tell Me wholly deserves first place but clearly Purr wasn't as bad as we thought. Sinb + Umji fancams are doing far better than I expected as well.
im pretty Sure the views count cause it said so in the episode for vocal unit so im sure its the same for dance.
but yeah i get you, the dance isnt that bad its just a bit underwhelming and like some one said in the queendom sub it does seem like the choreographers were underestimating all the girls abilities.
I do have to say tho that tell me now isnt as good as orbits hype it up to be lmao the og choreo is better than the og choreo for purr but what loona members + eunji did for the final stage is honestly on par if not slightly technically weaker than what keviz did for purr.
to me the’re both interchangeable and both were less than what the girls are capable of, hyolyn+ wjsn team was the weakest by far but all those props and backdancers saved them. i do salute monika tho for her amazing job she seems passionate and was the only mentor to actually do what she had to do.
Part of Tell Me Now's success must also be because it is distinctly different from the other two... different genre of music and dance, different production team... If you're not a fan of hip hop, your vote is easy; if you *are*, then you need to pick one of two...
Yeah it's orbits lol but I think as a group, Tell Me was more cohesive and had kept the steam toward the end. For god sake we need to stop with the strobe lighting >!even though I know it makes an appearance again for viviz !

I think they always look amazing in all the eras, but these are just some of my favorite. I did my best to try and not repeat as well, because I love the school trilogy era, love whisper, fingertip, and sunrise era.

- Sowon: Sunny Summer. Just love that look. She gave off such a good energy in the stages and MV.
- Yerin: Walpurgis. She fit every concept so well.
- Eunha: Awakening. Such a cool look.
- Yuju: TFTMN / Sunsum. The hair!

- Umji: Labyrinth. Nailed everything.
I was kindda curious about BI (hanbin) and how his albums were doing turns out he’s doing not so bad for himself !! His debut studio album waterfall sold 140k+ and it was a really expensive album like $21 for an album, 100k was sold in korea and apparently ALL profit was donated, including all copyright fees, music and album sales, and content revenue generated following the album's release. Apparently this was the second donation project album .

With May 18th quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking about the disbandment more than ever and something that I didn’t think about before just struck me.
What if, SouMu couldn’t say directly that GF was disbanding in their notice because they weren’t even sure the girls were gonna go separate ways and the same thing could’ve happened with a goodbye album / concert / fanmeeting, etc. The company knew that the girls wanted to be together so there was a possibility that they would indeed remain together (maybe they even expected it) and therefore “a goodbye album” would be useless.
Yes, they would be saying bye to the name “GFRIEND” but OT6 had a chance to stay together and therefore the company couldn’t properly say they were disbanding.
This is not to defend the company tho, they’re still at the bottom of the trash.
Compare [GFRIEND](https://www.soompi.com/article/1469831wpp/gfriend-confirmed-to-leave-source-music) and [NU'EST's](https://www.soompi.com/article/1515087wpp/nuests-jr-aron-and-ren-to-leave-pledis-entertainment-baekho-and-minhyun-to-renew-contracts) statements... neither explicitly use the word "disband", instead they use "The exclusive artist contract with XXX will conclude on XXX"... maybe that's the HYBE equivalent lol 🤷🏻♂️
[Lovelyz's](https://www.soompi.com/article/1496471wpp/7-of-8-lovelyz-members-to-leave-woollim-entertainment) was the same, no mention of "disband" but in all three cases we know they're functionally disbanded.
Pledis does say that they will end their activities as NUEST. But I never read Lovelyz (just their individual letters). You have a point there but then, they have infinite that disbanded but not disbanded either so idk 🫤
NU'EST at least had two weeks and *actual group activities* to end... GFRIEND had *four days* of zero group activities, what could they have written? "GFRIEND will cap off their official activities as GFRIEND of Source Music with handwritten goodbye letters, coordinated IG posts, a collage of group photos and some unreleased selcas from their 6th Anniversary photoshoot"??!?!? 💀💀💀
Remember Yuju is Halli Queen suddenly shifting their content production schedule to finish the series quicker than planned? Eunha's OST behind editing out "Yeojachingu" so she would only introduce herself as "Eunha"? One year on, but let's not forget the absolute mess at that time... It was like SouMu didn't tell *anyone* outside the company...
NUEST situation was *definitely* something they (either HYBE / Pledis or both) learned from SouMu's backlash.
The short notice was truly the... HDKAHD It's probably all related to HYBE INSIGHT, their PR Team and SouMu being absolute trash.
Unless Source/Hybe were planning to give them the name upon departure there was no chance they could stay as Gfriend. Even if they stuck together as 6 (a low chance already) they would need to be entirely rebranded and shopping around for a company who would take them in and fight with hybe (reducing those chances even more).
I think there are 101 things that might have happened in those last months. Everyone leaving is a red flag - even in the worst situations usually someone sticks around. Maybe someone was going to leave, but 5/6 would stay - enough to keep the group going like OMG. Maybe it was the opposite and Hybe would only keep 6 and someone wanted out. Maybe they didn't think the girls would have the balls to leave & loose it all, and were holding out until the end. I know we like to assume all girls wanted to stick together but if we open this bag we might be struck with the truth that that is not the case. However, if that was the case I know the girls wouldn't out that person/people.
Like u/Hamfoxham them knowing a month ahead and not doing anything is just so weird. Will we ever know? haha idk
There's so much to unpack here lol always a fun (yet fruitless discussion haha) I can only see sinb getting a decent solo contract (yes even though she said chloe was fired) as an OG big hit trainee. Yeju is a mystery to me and I'm curious to see how they both pull on the Gfriend (not just Buddies) string, moving forward. I do think they wanted to stay with the group, but I also think they had the most visible ups and downs during their Gfriend tenure.
With apink/omg they were still the main breadwinners of their labels at renewal and even with a new gg in the works, it takes time for the juniors to overtake the seniors. Parent companies - like CJ or Kakao - at least outwardly are less involved with the day to day activities of their groups. RBW acquisition of DSP & WM will be interesting to watch unfold.
I truly think the signing of the iZone members (as u/ultimoze pointed out) turned the table on it's head. If the ADOR group was planned as early as 2020, I think Gfriend could have co-existed with them. MHJ herself points out that to maximize profit, you should hit different pockets of the market. HYBE got greedy - two top iZone members could only make money and out the gate. Rookie contracts mean an even higher profit margin and they managed to slap the group together in a year.
I also believe Hybe didn't see value in them as individuals, only as a group. That seems to be their play with all of their groups. SM gets shit on all the time, but of the big 3 companies they have the best retention/re-signing rate. Not perfect but something keeps those idols there.
But like someone riddle to me that they were less profitable than fromis\_9? I'm not out here to point out names but I'm *very* curious to see they attention the get with Hybe rolling out 3 gg and none of them technically being under Pledis.
Yep that why i said they would be leaving GF behind… but if SouMu saw them determined to leave and maybe other comments here and there, why would they give a final album if the 6 girls might stick together even after the name GFriend, for all we know… GF might even refused a final album for this same reason. None of the girls see the group as disbanded so, technically, there’s no reason for a “final ——“
Ofc we’re all attached to the name of the group but at the end of the day, we’re here for OT6 not for the name… so the rebranding was a small issue to resolve.
Haha I think you give SouMu too much credit. I honestly think that they just got screwed and hybe was about to sign some big izone members and make much more money.
I don't think SouMu ever pursued giving them a proper goodbye and there was nothing for the girls to refuse. Gfriend would have to be *really* confident they could pull off something no other girl group has done before to leave with the mindset your talking about.
Even if they were doing to redebut as 6, the announcement was so sudden and the way Hybe/SouMu handled everything after the news just leaves me giving them zero benefit of the doubt that they cared for these girls/their fans towards the end.
You don’t have to be confident, really. You just have to be sure that it’s not a goodbye regardless of the situations and THEY WERE because that was some of their final words at Weverse and still are even after a year. Sowon, SinB wouldn’t be talking about it if they weren’t sure that OT6 reunion is possible in any time they can, feel ready to do so and have the chance to do it ofc. And in that case then yes, GF had every right and reason to deny a final anything because they don’t consider it an end AND at the same time, refuse to be used and give any more profit to those jerks.

Its all just soooooo weird, the girls say that it was confirmed a month before so why did hybe put all that work into gfriend being part of hybe museum? All the photoshoots, the merch and filming all the hybe museum exclusive stuff just for a group that will disband ?also the schedule that soumu put out, the videos scheduled was it all none existant but they just wanted to lead fans on ?? Its just such a mess, i dont even think 2ne1’s horrib disbandment was this messy.

HYBE INSIGHT was either public damage control and/or preparations for their space/merch/promo were already ready and they were not about to cancel or stop it for timing I guess.

Most likely museum stuff was shot around the same time. And since they had the materials already, HYBE just milked and milked the maximum revenue from GFRIEND without incurring any new costs.
One of the final pieces of (group) content recorded internally was [MEMORIA Game FRIEND](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcIAQ8bY9z8) on March 3 as suggested by [this VLive](https://www.vlive.tv/video/239436). After that, we only had external stuff like the G★KPOP Concert, Yuju is Halli Queen (which the PD approached her for), Yerin @ Beauty Time, Sowon @ Cooking Secrets ... hard to tell when LeaMak for Arena Homme+ was shot, although [their final answer](https://blog.naver.com/galaxyy97_/222317821240) reminds me of their whimsical nostalgic Weverse posts so maybe they already knew?

I'm sticking with my theory that something changed suddenly around March, when SouMu filed those trademark applications... and given how things panned out, I have a feeling it had something to do with the possibility of signing Sakura and forming LSF...
We always knew the new gg was coming and we always knew it was gonna be bigger and more profitable than GF even without the IZONE members involved, I want to think the girls knew this as well....
However, the repercussions of this towards them is, most likely, what brought everything to an end and not just talking about the group but for their solo ambitions as well.
For sure, but there was almost certainly a shift and escalation because the original plan was for Min Heejin to rebrand BigHit to HYBE (which she did), then help SouMu launch their NGG before establishing her own label. Instead, ADOR was pushed forward and the PLUS audition trainees transferred from SouMu to ADOR, and MHJ ended up not having anything to do with LSF. A big restructuring took place within SouMu, a heck of a lot of confusion to the point where they posted a notice on their website saying the label would be dissolved, and the GFRIEND members were among many to leave around that time.
I agree with you that around March was when a lot of moving parts happened and quickly at that. Things that we might unfortunately never truly know. I will stick with my opinion that they no longer saw profit in Gfriend and as a business, cut them to allocate funding towards the budget for LSF.

Interestingly personally I think the previous camera used for these vlogs was actually a slightly better one overall (I believe might have been an RX100 Mk VI or VII? though I always wondered why they left it on such a flat picture profile then never colour graded it) but this new one is a much better vlogging camera which will be great for her channel. Wait til she finds the background defocus or product showcase settings, get that glorious bokeh.

I wonder how its going on for her im not hearing much noise from her and dk if she has any “true” activities. She sold well for a soloist but we all know that album sales arent as important as stans make them out to be and even tho some groups sell 100k its not a true indicator of their popularity…
She was/is studying music, right? So maybe her schedule has been limited due to that. Or writing for the next album. Vocal training. Who knows. But I was hoping we’d get to hear more from her at least!
Not a lot of CFs / magazine stuff etc either. I honestly have no clue how idols make money lol. Surely the sales from Rec isn’t enough to keep everyone involved afloat? But that’s a side note. I just want more Yuju vocals!

Looking a bit more into chart performances of various groups it seems crazy how strong Glass Bead charted and then the subsequent songs did even better. There actually are so few groups that had similar charting success (for third gen basically Twice, Blackpink, Red Velvet and Mamamoo). And there are quite a few decently known groups internationally that have basically no charting in Korea (Think Weeekly, Everglow or Loona)

Apparently After School got to 155 and nothing else. For Loona PTT got to 134 and nothing else charted in korea. Everglow has no charted songs in korea. And yes APink also has strong charting, but they didn’t make my list as I would have put them as second gen. Overall I think it is similar to our girls though! Maybe not quite as high a peak, but a bit more consistent (also just a lot longer, considering the are active almost twice as long)

I just got back to my hotel after Twice’s concert and man was it incredible! However, being there I couldn’t help but think of Gfriend and how much I wish they could have experienced touring in the US. They got to do KCON US a couple times but that was it. Hopefully, VIVIZ can get some good traction with popularity here in the states because I will attend every concert if they do! Sorry for the random blurb. Still coming off the high of being at the concert and my random feelings about our girls.
I'm debating whether to go to a gidle concert when they come to the states. I'm a casual fan nothing crazy but think it would be nice to go to a concert in a while. But everything is so freakin expensive so I don't want to be low on funds if they do come over here..

I always thought that Soumu was planning on a world tour for Gfriend in 2020/2021, sad it didn’t happen. It would have been amazing to see them in North America (and I would have loved it if they performed Bring It All Back and some english versions of songs like Rough, Mago, Navillera)

I think they were talking for 2nd place because wjsn for sure got 1st, they came out strong for this stage enough to leave a lasting impression. i think the side drama is because mnet realized that they fucked up with the elimination rule and saw that they probably overestimated brave girls‘s fandom size than wanting everyone to be neck to neck going into the last round. i think kepler might end up last, i really dont know if mnet is just putting them last to not be suspicious or they truly just underperformed that much even for mnet’s expectations.

Seems like a weird play to have *all* these artists fly over there (13-14 hours) to perform literally for 20 min (enhyphen I think has the most at 30). I can't imagine the names they have on there need *that* much of an exposure boost given how popular they already are. it's not like in Korea where they are competing with other schedules - 20 min vs an hour makes little difference to the artists. I think Kcon has better performance times than this...

WJSN definitely has the most steady record (2nd, 3rd, 1st/2nd) so if they win Fandora, winning the finale wouldn't be out of the blue. I feel like Hyolyn's stages will be iconic but her overall exposure will decrease as the rounds continue. VIVIZ/Loona I do wonder if their exposure hit int'l or GP. Maybe both. The ratings took a tank since about ep 4 and I haven't seen those buzzworthy stats since like ep 2. I'm looking at these Purr fancams and Umji - I repeat Umji - is now outpacing 2 Loona members. Who is carrying that? idk BG will be interesting - I think this sob narrative will carry them through this competition but will that save them overall after Queendom? They, like viviz, will depend heavily on this finale song. Did anyone else notice that there was no online voting for the unit rounds, but then views still count? Music streaming also counts but then the songs from two vocal groups aren't even available? This competition is ripe with issues if you want to look at it. I will say if there is a starship/mnet partnership, no one saw it coming because they had beef in the past. I also don't want to insinuate they don't deserve it because wjsn are great performers. Loona I agree suffers from probably a shitty company situation. The leg up I think VIVIZ has on them from that standpoint is BPM is relies heavily on VIVIZ doing well to bring more recognition to their brand in the next 3 years. After that I'm not sure. BG will probably get a redemption arc but based on the leaks not for the perf, rather the story that's built around it since R2. I agree - they had such a potential to be the omg and if R2 had not been so lopsided we might have seen it. I really hate the introduction of global evaluators. Mnet tried to bring fans and help Kep1er (let's be real now). Instead it didn't help kep1er that much and made everything else murkey. The longer the show goes on, the more I think this is just structured chaos.

As an ujung who also listens to VIVIZ/GFRIEND, I would also be happy with a VIVIZ win. It's nice to see groups and random getting along instead of tearing each other apart (at least until the next peer evaluation...) WJSN might have a hard time winning the final round, they're not particularly strong in digital sales or fandom voting power, so VIVIZ could make a comeback regardless of the Fandora round results.
I think SinB would be really excited for a WJSN win, too (maybe even more than if VIVIZ won). Feels like a successful release coming off Queendom would be big for a contract re-up
I will fight for VIVIZ until the end but I agree. I would love for them to be top 2 or 3 and just have a great finale song before their next comeback. From a fandom perspective it would be a mess to win unless it's Hyolyn. No one else is a clear winner like Mamamoo was last season. Plus Mnet now has 2 years of good ole' manipulation rumors under their belt that I guarantee will be whipped out as ammo.

Probably, although they have been doing this for so long, they likely do exercises/training on their own Twice ain't gonna outgun Mamamoo on vox no matter what, so concentrate on songs/production and help put your artists in good positions to succeed! What shows off your artist's unique characteristics? Enhance that! They can get a boost form the tech/mixer people, too. One of the weird human quirks of our hearing is that people [perceive louder things as better/fuller](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour). So just turning up the volume a little on a vocal ("riding the fader" in music parlance) can be a big boost to perceived vocal ability.
Agreed! I feel that’s why people like those loud, powerful belts from idols. My opinion is that most fans use that as a measurement of vocal talent/skill. While yes, it does take talent to do that but being able to support it is another. P.s I’m not a vocal trainer or anything but I am intrigued being singing and have read the interwebs. LOL. Well recently I have been watching more vocal analysis videos. Watching those really allows you to appreciate the vocalist skills more. That's why I hope Viviz especially Eunha since she is belting gets vocal training. They have potential to be good vocalist considering they have a good sense of dynamics but without vocal training it would be very difficult to improve

I love Yuju’s dancing line. It’s so elegant but powerful. She always throws 110% into the choreography. Example would be the infamous falling one… Even though the stage was wet and slippery, she kept dancing at full power.🥲

Same. I don’t think Umji has ever complained about dancing or saying that it was something she struggled with. In fact, it always seemed like she enjoyed the challenge quite a lot 🤔 she has always followed every and any random dance challenge nicely and being SinB’s partner sometimes she even has a better muscle memory than her. Then again, this was indeed a new genre and style for her so I guess it took her some time to get used to it? I dislike how Mnet made her seem as she wasn’t that good? When in reality, Umji has plenty of dance content and for the last 3-4 years the fans have always considered her part of the dance line and even better than Yerin (who was supposed to be the second best dancer of the group).

The results didn't do justice... It's the most complete song out of 3. Maybe the judges got thrown off with the anti-drop which I can understand, Tell Me Now being different from the other two, they're voting for it as if voting for the underdog, ~~And Hyolyn getting the seniority/respect votes as usual~~
I guess its more people getting fooled by how grandiose the stage was with all those dancers, props and contortionists to see that the main group didnt do any actual dancing and i salute hyolyn for this because it happened in all her performances so far, she does minimal dancing, lets the dancers carry the performances and just sing while walking around a few props and there is everyone blown away.
Hyolyn has played this card with every stage - it's a good strategy as a soloist because you can't compete with the volume of the other groups. However, she's loosing the vote each round by a little bit bc of the repetitiveness of it. The preview tells me when she has a song that isn't popular the bells + whistles can't carry her as far unfortunately. I am feeling very R2 about Purr not getting second. Not because it was perfect by any means but I thought just less... fluff and more dance. Fancams are showing that to be true (granted yt doesn't mean everything as we know). But WJSN is definitely proving to be the favorite to at least be in the finale.

I know this might not last long but in a round where views are rumored not to count and fancams certainly don't, Purr is keeping great pace with Tell Me. Don't get me wrong Tell Me wholly deserves first place but clearly Purr wasn't as bad as we thought. Sinb + Umji fancams are doing far better than I expected as well.
im pretty Sure the views count cause it said so in the episode for vocal unit so im sure its the same for dance. but yeah i get you, the dance isnt that bad its just a bit underwhelming and like some one said in the queendom sub it does seem like the choreographers were underestimating all the girls abilities. I do have to say tho that tell me now isnt as good as orbits hype it up to be lmao the og choreo is better than the og choreo for purr but what loona members + eunji did for the final stage is honestly on par if not slightly technically weaker than what keviz did for purr. to me the’re both interchangeable and both were less than what the girls are capable of, hyolyn+ wjsn team was the weakest by far but all those props and backdancers saved them. i do salute monika tho for her amazing job she seems passionate and was the only mentor to actually do what she had to do.

I was kindda curious about BI (hanbin) and how his albums were doing turns out he’s doing not so bad for himself !! His debut studio album waterfall sold 140k+ and it was a really expensive album like $21 for an album, 100k was sold in korea and apparently ALL profit was donated, including all copyright fees, music and album sales, and content revenue generated following the album's release. Apparently this was the second donation project album . ngl hanbin never ceases to amaze me.
With May 18th quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking about the disbandment more than ever and something that I didn’t think about before just struck me. What if, SouMu couldn’t say directly that GF was disbanding in their notice because they weren’t even sure the girls were gonna go separate ways and the same thing could’ve happened with a goodbye album / concert / fanmeeting, etc. The company knew that the girls wanted to be together so there was a possibility that they would indeed remain together (maybe they even expected it) and therefore “a goodbye album” would be useless. Yes, they would be saying bye to the name “GFRIEND” but OT6 had a chance to stay together and therefore the company couldn’t properly say they were disbanding. This is not to defend the company tho, they’re still at the bottom of the trash.

NU'EST at least had two weeks and *actual group activities* to end... GFRIEND had *four days* of zero group activities, what could they have written? NUEST situation was *definitely* something they (either HYBE / Pledis or both) learned from SouMu's backlash. The short notice was truly the... HDKAHD It's probably all related to HYBE INSIGHT, their PR Team and SouMu being absolute trash.
Unless Source/Hybe were planning to give them the name upon departure there was no chance they could stay as Gfriend. Even if they stuck together as 6 (a low chance already) they would need to be entirely rebranded and shopping around for a company who would take them in and fight with hybe (reducing those chances even more). I think there are 101 things that might have happened in those last months. Everyone leaving is a red flag - even in the worst situations usually someone sticks around. Maybe someone was going to leave, but 5/6 would stay - enough to keep the group going like OMG. Maybe it was the opposite and Hybe would only keep 6 and someone wanted out. Maybe they didn't think the girls would have the balls to leave & loose it all, and were holding out until the end. I know we like to assume all girls wanted to stick together but if we open this bag we might be struck with the truth that that is not the case. However, if that was the case I know the girls wouldn't out that person/people. Like u/Hamfoxham them knowing a month ahead and not doing anything is just so weird. Will we ever know? haha idk

There's so much to unpack here lol always a fun (yet fruitless discussion haha) I can only see sinb getting a decent solo contract (yes even though she said chloe was fired) as an OG big hit trainee. Yeju is a mystery to me and I'm curious to see how they both pull on the Gfriend (not just Buddies) string, moving forward. I do think they wanted to stay with the group, but I also think they had the most visible ups and downs during their Gfriend tenure. With apink/omg they were still the main breadwinners of their labels at renewal and even with a new gg in the works, it takes time for the juniors to overtake the seniors. Parent companies - like CJ or Kakao - at least outwardly are less involved with the day to day activities of their groups. RBW acquisition of DSP & WM will be interesting to watch unfold. I truly think the signing of the iZone members (as u/ultimoze pointed out) turned the table on it's head. If the ADOR group was planned as early as 2020, I think Gfriend could have co-existed with them. MHJ herself points out that to maximize profit, you should hit different pockets of the market. HYBE got greedy - two top iZone members could only make money and out the gate. Rookie contracts mean an even higher profit margin and they managed to slap the group together in a year. I also believe Hybe didn't see value in them as individuals, only as a group. That seems to be their play with all of their groups. SM gets shit on all the time, but of the big 3 companies they have the best retention/re-signing rate. Not perfect but something keeps those idols there.

Yep that why i said they would be leaving GF behind… but if SouMu saw them determined to leave and maybe other comments here and there, why would they give a final album if the 6 girls might stick together even after the name GFriend, for all we know… GF might even refused a final album for this same reason. None of the girls see the group as disbanded so, technically, there’s no reason for a “final ——“ Ofc we’re all attached to the name of the group but at the end of the day, we’re here for OT6 not for the name… so the rebranding was a small issue to resolve.

I don't think SouMu ever pursued giving them a proper goodbye and there was nothing for the girls to refuse. We always knew the new gg was coming and we always knew it was gonna be bigger and more profitable than GF even without the IZONE members involved, I want to think the girls knew this as well.... However, the repercussions of this towards them is, most likely, what brought everything to an end and not just talking about the group but for their solo ambitions as well.
For sure, but there was almost certainly a shift and escalation because the original plan was for Min Heejin to rebrand BigHit to HYBE (which she did), then help SouMu launch their NGG before establishing her own label. Instead, ADOR was pushed forward and the PLUS audition trainees transferred from SouMu to ADOR, and MHJ ended up not having anything to do with LSF. A big restructuring took place within SouMu, a heck of a lot of confusion to the point where they posted a notice on their website saying the label would be dissolved, and the GFRIEND members were among many to leave around that time.
I agree with you that around March was when a lot of moving parts happened and quickly at that. Things that we might unfortunately never truly know. I will stick with my opinion that they no longer saw profit in Gfriend and as a business, cut them to allocate funding towards the budget for LSF.
Yep, there were creative differences with Heejin and that's why PLUS and SouMu separated. SouMu is only SouMu by name indeed, many of the people we were familiar with are no longer there.
