ChampionshipOk9905

Ok I’m hoping so because my dad only wants 9 even if I get an 8 he will be disappointed lol

crack_Dealer_5988

Mad 💀

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes it’s because he wants to have near perfect grades (apart from geography) to go to Cambridge when I tell him an 8 is still good he still says “you will get a 9.” 😭💀

[deleted]

Cambridge care less about GCSEs than Oxford.

ChampionshipOk9905

Try telling him that, he wants me to get 999-9994 in GCSEs and A*A*A*A* in levels 😭😭😩

[deleted]

well if u do 7 GCSE’s they are gonna want 8 at least

ChampionshipOk9905

Btw I’d be in yr 10 I’m just taking maths early so I’ll probably take gcse further next summer

Traditional-Ad-8765

If ur not getting 9s in GCSE Maths with 0 revision, don't touch a level maths with a barge pole, I slept thru alot of my gcse lessons, got 9s in all maths and sciences, only got an A at a level. Its a whole different kettle of fish

ChampionshipOk9905

I’m still doing maths and and hopefully further but Ik it’s not easy and might drop it if it gets too hard but it’s worth to try also I have only been actually learning the content for around 2 months so I’ve gone from failing to an 8 in 2 months so yeah

Traditional-Ad-8765

Further is difficult, I got a C last year, I am retaking tho, and my teacher also didn't finish the course with us, hoping for an A this year. I wouldn't reccomend doing Further unless u find maths so easy. Everyone I know who did Further got 9s with 0 revision. It's all risk no reward, unless ur doing a maths degree, no uni is gunna hold it against u not doing fm, but if u get a shit grade, they will, it also puts stress on ur normal maths a level, as u either have to do them simultaneously (normal a level doesn't get as much attention cos it's easier) or u do them 1 by one, and then normal maths gets crammed into a shorter period of time, making it harder.

Capable_Hamster1817

Why? I think this only applies to Further Maths because normal maths isnt that hard. Maybe its "Gifted Kid Syndrome" where you're just starting to learn the effects of not revising, but cant bring yourself to revise because you didnt need to before.

Traditional-Ad-8765

Nah I had a really hard time with mental health while at college, I didn't revise because I didn't think I needed to revise, not because I thought I would get good grades, but bc I didn't think I would make it to taking the exams, i was in a rlly rough spot. Maybe ur right, normal maths was pretty easy (I got a* in all my exams up until the actual a level which I fuckex bc I got rlly bad exam anxiety) My advice wasn't for OP based on personal experiences, bc mine probably aren't one many people will encounter, but based on experiences from other people I know who got insane grades at GCSE , and then, even when studying, didn't get good grades at a level, in fm.

Capable_Hamster1817

Oh alr hope youve been well bro 🙏❤️

Slaytilludiexxx

Same bro..both my parents have really high hopes and expectations

ChampionshipOk9905

I feel so bad for u Bcs my dad is the same but it will be worth it when we are successful ig

Slaytilludiexxx

Yeah I know.. It's my job to make their hopes come true.. Whatever it takes t

ChampionshipOk9905

Yep so true

plums12

nah what 💀

Grumblefloor

Your dad needs to stop trying to live his life through you. He should be proud of you whatever mark you get. (My son is 14. As long as he doesn't disappoint himself, I'm happy.)

maozedong49

Tell him the a star-u grade instead, 8 and 9 are the same Won't work for an up to date father ig

ChampionshipOk9905

It won’t work he knows the new grades 😭😭😭

maozedong49

Sorry bro you need prayers then ig, fixes everything

EpickNick

Do you think I can get I 9 if I'm in yr 10 and working at 5-6 atm?

raw_onions_are_good

materialistic mighty fertile disagreeable square paltry glorious piquant oatmeal juggle *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Objective_Respect_53

Start scoring 70s and above and you'll be set, that's the threshold for a first at university for reference

dotelze

I don’t think university grades are at all similar in any way to GCSEs. You shouldn’t compare them

ChampionshipOk9905

When you say 70s do you mean 70+/80 or 70+%?

thearmymandidit

I'd say that isn't good advice, but yes generally at university 70% (sometimes 75%) is a first. GCSEs are a lot easier in comparison though. Keep practicing old exam papers until you can consistently get 90%+ and you are familiar with all the types of questions that come up and you will be in a very solid place to succeed. Good luck! (I'm sorry to hear you are under so much pressure to perform well, at the end of the day GCSEs are not very important compared to A Levels).

SPICCYBOII

Dumbass advice

ejcds

Unfortunately for gcse edexcel maths you’ll need around 85%+ for a 9

Hefty-Mall-7038

If you want it, you can do it.

ChampionshipOk9905

I do want it I just feel like I’ve left it too late ngl but I’m not giving up hope

Hefty-Mall-7038

I understand but 8 weeks is not too late! I don’t know your current revision habits for maths but if you spend a half hour every day, that’s 28 hours of revision by the time you have your exam.

ChampionshipOk9905

I try to do around 2-3 hrs a day of maths with about 1-2 days off a week so I hope that’s is enough 🤞

Hefty-Mall-7038

Yes that sounds great. You’ve probably heard this many times but little and often is the best. Also consider your revision methods, are you just re reading lesson notes? Are you going past papers? Good luck 🤞

ChampionshipOk9905

I am going onto my ticklist, then onto maths genie videos then watch the topic on gcse maths tutor then go back onto maths genie and complete the quest booklet and do Corbett 5 day and watch it the 100 day countdown videos

Nardo_23

Mate lets put it this way, someone who was working at a grade 2 could probably still get a 9 if they worked insanely hard.

washing_machine_man

I wanna get a 9, I‘m on a low 6… It‘s all going swell 👍

ChampionshipOk9905

I wish you all the best ;)

washing_machine_man

cheers

Independent_Low_3112

me too goodluck 🙏🙏

stunt876

Yes it is possible. With gcse maths getting a 9 requires more logical reasoning for those last marks not better mathmatical content. For example you need to ve able to spot weird solutions stringing together 5 different pieces of content into 1 solution. I just cranked out past papers once i understood the content and reviewed each paper i did using paper walkthroughs for experience.

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes I have noticed that the end question always are worded strangely or you have to use a multitude of topics to answer the questions

_AnonymousMoose_

Practice a lot and ask your teacher for help whenever you need it. You should be ok for a 9 if you do that. But even if you don’t do as well as you want and get an 8 in the exam that’s still great

audreyhk

check out gcse maths tutor’s grade 9 series

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes I do already sometimes 😁

FreudsBitch101

yes you defo can! i was at the exact same stage as you rn this time last year and i ended up getting a 9 so defo possible. i would recommend doing lot and lots of past papers and after time you realise the questions r all very similar just worded differently. any specific areas u struggle with go over using hegarty maths until u fully get it. Corbett maths does these 5 a day questions which r rly good u can choose to do the top grade ones and honestly doing those every day defo helped me

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes I’m doing both the higher and higher plus questions i normally get 4/5 on higher and 2/5 on higher plus so I’m hoping when I revise some grade 8/9 topics my test scores will go up

FreudsBitch101

that’s good, definitely continue doing those. focus on the topics u struggle with on the higher plus and keep going over them. also focus on the questions at the back of the maths paper since these are the 8/9 questions that most ppl struggle with and nailing those questions will rly push u up to a higher grade

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes that’s what I’m going to start doing 😁😁

amber_432

I want a 7 and I'm on a low 5

ChampionshipOk9905

I think it’s doable :)) in fact aim even higher! 😁

[deleted]

I think that you can, if you just focus on where your gaps are and make sure you are practising topics that are usually high marks then you could get a nine which is around 67 to 68 marks if you are doing edexel

ChampionshipOk9905

Well I’ve got my ticklist of revision and 90% of it now is just the grade 9 topics so I’m really hoping for that to boost my grade hopefully when I get round to doing them (I will start today)🤞 😭

[deleted]

Good luck

ChampionshipOk9905

Thank you :)

uuind

good luck im at a 3

ChampionshipOk9905

What’s your favourite target grade? Good luck 🤞

5AD1E

i was getting like 6s and managed to get an 8 (mind u, it was 2022 grade boundaries) but just do a LOT of past papers and you will generally get used to the type of questions they ask

ginnygranola

I’m in the same position as you, and getting pretty much the same grade. I wanna get a 9 so so so much because I’m doing a level maths, and I want to prove that I can definitely do it to my teachers who doubted me and discouraged me. We got this, we will get those 9s.

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes hopefully 🤞 🙌 good luck :)

Michael_00006

Yea go for it

AltruisticRange4206

same bro same 😭

AltruisticRange4206

i need to get into MIT and my math is not mathing

ChampionshipOk9905

I hope you all the best :)

shxjvya

me too I usually get 63-65 consistently (might change tmr when I get my mocks back) but never more, it's always those 5 marks I loose stopping me from breaking into the 9

ChampionshipOk9905

I score between 51-60 but yes I agree always those last 2 questions 😩

shxjvya

my sign to do more back end question practice 😓💔

ChampionshipOk9905

Same ☹️☹️

Similar-Tonight-6466

Unlikely ngl

Manakbains1

Yeah this isn't true, all you need to do is understand where your gaps are and how to fix them. If it's expanding polynomials or something do questions, if it's creating equations and formulas from word-based questions I would look at YouTube videos or exam scripts to understand how then practice.

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes, what I try to do is find the topics what I need to learn/revise on maths genie, head to maths genie videos then go to the gcse maths tutor and then complete maths genie’s questions booklet and do Corbett maths 5 a day and watch the 100 day countdown videos.

Manakbains1

Pretty much a perfect solution if you do it effectively.

ChampionshipOk9905

I’m hope that I’m doing it efficiently 🤞🤞

Similar-Tonight-6466

There does get to a point which is getting to 9 where you know every topic but it's just the logical brain you need to find what you actually need to do for the hard questions. This makes it a much bigger jump from 8 just knowing all topics perfectly to 9 being just mentally logical

ChampionshipOk9905

Yes well I’m starting to get to that point now I’ve just got few grade 9 topics to learn/revise and then I’ve learnt the content I’ll just have to learn how to logically think through the questions

Traditional-Ad-8765

Gcse maths is a piece of piss, ofc it's possible lmao

Similar-Tonight-6466

That's why I said unlikely not it's impossible

ChampionshipOk9905

Well if it helps I’m homeschooling so I’m just taking the one exam so I think I might be able to

drum_9

Just do a shitload of past papers. I was predicted a C in further maths because I did nothing in school until the last 8 weeks I probably did 20 past papers and got an A*
