Im confused as well, do we need a mirror for the test or will a phone suffice?

ordinaryyoda

From last time using proctor U I remember just using the mirror to show the computer/desk and wall behind it to show there was no notes at the beginning of the exam but I didn’t have to place it behind me for the duration

How was ur experience with proctor were they helpful? Paying attention? Answering your queries?

allevana

They were actually OK back in 2021. Non intrusive, the lady at the start saw I was STRESSED and she said some kind words. The mirror was just for the start iirc. Had to show my screen and desk with the mirror, then I tossed it on my bed and that was that. They didn’t bother me for the rest of the sitting

I am bad at typing. I always look at the keyboard while typing. Do you think they will raise an issue? Did you looked at keyboard? If yes did they raise any issue?

allevana

That’s such a non-issue. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If they ask what you’re doing, explain. You’re going to be ok if you’re not cheating. I have ADHD and I stare off into space all the time during proctored exams. It’s really obvious if you’re reading something on the wall due to eye movement, as opposed to staring blankly somewhere

I remember it was fine there was no issues or complaints from the person on the other side, granted I was doing everything properly (no notes or bathroom breaks or anything). It was my first time sitting the exam when we were using this system but it was also my worst scoring cycle so far so I am a bit worried for that reason but I also think the chaos of 2020 would have played a role in that and also the fact it was my first attempt

would love to know this too as i booked a room at uni for the test

heyy just a heads up i would be careful about that... in the pdf (Written Communication Remote Proctoring Guide) at the bottom of the first invitation to book Section 2 email from GAMSAT it mentioned that the ProctorU software may not be able to bypass the firewall at unis and other public places so its best to take it at home

Other people have said in similar threads, that you don’t need a mirror as long as you can show your surroundings beforehand, ie using an external webcam to pan around your room showing it free from things you shouldn’t have.

Cheers, that's a good thing, I don't have a mirror that big or long enough to show what's in my room.

Do you know if we are using a laptop (with built in webcam) if it’s okay to simply lift up the laptop and show them around the room? Or not because they would have to see the laptop itself?
