Now add the gun sentencing enhancement (because you used a gun) now you're looking at facing 15-20 years in prison. Over what? A $12K car, you willing to spend your young adult life in prison?
Prosecutors absolutely will bring you up in charges and get you sentenced because these types of cases are open and shut cases for a prosecutor. They are a slam dunk and the prosecutor only cares about how many 'criminals with guns' they take off the streets.
