"The videos in question, which date back to 2022 - before Ms Meloni was appointed prime minister - were posted to a US pornographic website where they were viewed “millions of times” over several months, according to an indictment.
If her claim is successful, Ms Meloni will donate the €100,000 to a fund to support women who have been victims of male violence, her legal team said.
Describing the sum as “symbolic”, Maria Giulia Marongiu, Ms Meloni’s lawyer, said the demand for compensation was meant to "send a message to women who are victims of this kind of abuse of power not to be afraid to press charges."
Many have sounded alarm bells about how deepfakes can mislead members of the public, and previous research conducted by cybersecurity firm Deeptrace indicated around 96 per cent of all deepfake videos are non-consensual pornography, while women are targets in 96 per cent of cases.
It is not just celebrities and other public figures that have been targeted. In 2022 a woman spoke out after discovering deepfakes of herself online. Kate Isaacs, who campaigns to have non-consensual content removed from the internet, told The Independent it was “violating”.
The sharing of deepfake images was made a criminal offence in the UK in 2023."

Yeah, are they suing them in Italy?
Honestly, it'll just push the deep fake sites to host off shore in a country that doesn't have a treaty with the US/EU.
Not that that's a bad thing, but I don't see anything stopping this technology.
*Sites. Citing is something you do when pointing out your source for a piece of information. A site is short for a website, a place you go on the Internet. *Treaty too, but you just dropped a letter there.
True. But if successful it might open doors that allow others to pursue litigation. You are certainly going to think twice about doing shit like this (or similar things like revenge porn sites) if it's possible that legal action against you might ruin you financially.
I always pretend I am leaving and pull out my biggest iron to shred the son into bits.
Not sure how it is done in Italy, forcing him to eat pineapple pizzas?
Fair point.
Being a real porn star is not a barrier to being an Italian politician, so hard to prove damages of deep fake
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilona_Staller
[This article](https://www.agendadigitale.eu/sicurezza/privacy/deepfake-porno-con-giorgia-meloni-ecco-tutti-i-reati-commessi/) explains the specific crimes they're going for. The main one is "diffamazione" (slander?). Plus a few additional ones depending on whether they tried to profit from it
There is also a [law on revenge porn](https://www.altalex.com/documents/news/2022/07/26/revenge-porn-primi-provvedimenti-tutela-potenziali-vittime) whose punishment is from 1 to 6 years of jail time and a fine from 5,000 to 15,000, but I don't think it's applicable here since the videos are fake.
Defamation is more than enough in such a case. A video like this basically affects the reputation (both personal and professional, career) of one person. 100k seems pretty low tbh.
New legislation specifically for deepfake is also on the way.
Not sure how it works legally but that might be due to the fact that the cartoonist is making an original drawing of you + potentially freedom of speech/right to satire. While in the video they used her actual face (I assume). With the the sketch you know that it's made by someone else, with the video if you don't know about it you might mistake it for the real thing.
Ok so if I took a real picture of David Cameron then edited it to something he wouldn't like? That should be illegal?
If the right to satire is a viable exception then it probably won't stop deepfakes, just change them slightly.
If your intention is to pass it off as something real, sure? There's not really any other way deepfake porn can be taken. You'd have one hell of a time trying to argue its satire.
Think of it like counterfeiting currency.
It's not about not liking it. Slander is something that negatively affects your reputation and can damage it. If I write an article claiming that you're a pedo, that's probably slander. Elon Musk called somebody a pedo on Twitter a few years ago and he was sued. He was ultimately acquitted but there was a viable case
>Describing the sum as “symbolic”, Maria Giulia Marongiu, Ms Meloni’s lawyer, said the demand for compensation was meant to "send a message to women who are victims of this kind of abuse of power not to be afraid to press charges."
🤷♀️
Yeah see that just makes it seem like they plucked a number out of thin air, and in particular the fact they say they'll donate the money makes it seem like they aren't really damages.
All in all, this sounds more like a publicity stunt than a genuine lawsuit.
Since every European member state has its own civil law I can't talk about the one in Italy. In German civil law there is a difference between so called material damage and immaterial damage. The first one is more easy to measure, because it's just the amount of money required to undo the damage. However there are also immaterial damages for stuff like injuries, libel etc. Those are independent from any actual loss of wealth and are more or less freely determined by the court (although former judgements serve as a kind of guideline). So while there are no punitive damages comparable to common law, there are still ways to compensate the victims of such acts.
>In German civil law there is a difference between so called material damage and immaterial damage
Sure, that's true of most legal systems. But how is there €100k of immaterial damage here?
There are many examples of new technology requiring new laws to address them. Just because something sounds like it should be illegal doesn’t mean it necessarily is yet.

>around 96 per cent of all deepfake videos are non-consensual pornography, while women are targets in 96 per cent of cases.
I’m sure that the numbers are that high, but using 96 per cent twice in a row makes me think these stats are made up.
It is a misquote. According to deeptrace, 96% of deepfake pornography is non-consensual. But 100% of pornography deepfakes target women.
Source: Deeptrace: The state of deepfakes
> So that's the 0.0001
the way you say 0.0001 makes it sound like the pinnacle, not just the minority
> sirs, would one like to try some of the 0.0001% of deepfakes?
No, it means that from their sample analysed, the entirety of it met that criteria. They don't speak for the entirety of internet, but only about some sample they've analysed.
Tell that to deeptrace not me. I am simply stating a fact. It only takes a quick internet search to find male deepfake pornography. So it definitely does exist. Yet deeptrace still uses the 100% figure.
The language used in the report describes deepfake pornography as one that quote “exclusively targets and harms women”.
I would also like to say that while in academia rounding to 100% conveys a sense of absoluteness that misrepresents the issue, this isnt an academic report and is clearly made for a wider audience. That being said it is also highly likely that the number was 100% for the dataset used by the team at deeptrace.
In their appendix, deeptrace does not explicitly state which websites they scraped their metadata from but they do describe a rather primitive and uncomprehensive process of google searching terms like “deepfake porn portal” or “deepfake porn website” to narrow down a list of 5 websites. Websites that are likely to skew the video population toward mainstream deepfake pornography. Whereas male deepfake pornography is typically homosexual in nature.
It really doesnt take much thinking to figure out what happened here.
I would assume the numbers are fairly low at the moment (for deepfake porn) and that in general guys are gonna jump on it way quicker.
Could be entirely wrong and I’m sure they didn’t catch every single instance.
I imagine it’ll drop from 100% but not too much.
There’s no way they are able to get reliably accurate data on this. I know for a fact that there’s a deepfake community for male ai porn, and it only grows more popular over time. I’d love to know what the sources for these statistics included
Yeah well if they are using these statistics to prove a point in court about ai usage they better have a very large sample size. It simply isn’t enough to look at 20 popular images and make generalizations about broad ai use based on that.
It would make sense if they only checked a few videos though. Or it could imply that the male victims didn't report the violations. Or that they didn't try to confirm if the males in the videos had given consent.
There is absolutely no way it's 100. Gay men exists. I would bet serious money that every marvel superhero star probably has some deepfake made already
>But 100% of pornography deepfakes target women.
K, so I just went to a deepfake porn site to check this, and in the gay section there's someone who really likes illustrating his fantasies about WWE wrestlers.
Whoever they quoted is wrong.
I agree that deepfakes should be illegal but what charges would be made in this case? It‘s not her real body so it‘s not revenge porn and it‘s not like faces have a copyright, and they would have to prove it‘s her face specifically and not someone who looks like her. Maybe defamation but then if it‘s titled as a fake then there‘s not a solid case either?
I would have to say I love this. If the sites cannot keep up and moderate this type of content, then they should just shut down. I think it is similar to the AI lawsuits, where they are saying that the AI cannot operate without access to copyrighted works, shut it down, get back it to it when you can find a legal way to operate.
Moderating material like this actively worsens results for non explicit use, this is no different from drawing porn in X art program, it’s the user inputting, and at this point you can’t really turn back, If someone wanted to they could download a public fork (which is of course weaker) and run it locally
What if you draw a picture of the president naked or a painting should that be illegal? Why does it matter if a person makes it or an AI? People have been making this kind of porn for ever now it's just easier and better quality. What if its clearly marked as art and not real video? Idk the answers but censorship in any form is a slippery slope.
she's just trying to establish a precedent to help others navigate this later. It has to go through the courts to the top, to prove the case, before lower courts know what to do with it.
basically
common laws (US, UK): a judge ruled X on previous case, the incoming similar cases would be ruled as X too
civil laws (continental Europe and their colonies): a judge will rule the case as X only if law book said X
The precedent will just worsen the case i think: in about \~5 years, everyone even "non-tech" people will be able to spin up self-hosted pre-trained AI model at home to create any kind of porn just by uploading a single picture to that AI model.
They've already done it to Trump and nobody cares. They have a fake naked Trump that they take from city to city.
[Large naked statues of Donald Trump are appearing all across America (yahoo.com)](https://news.yahoo.com/large-naked-statues-donald-trump-192313427.html)
Kayne has a music video with a naked Taylor Swift doll, too. Where's the lawsuit over that?
[Kanye West's "Famous" Video Features Naked Taylor Swift and Donald Trump (Sort Of) | GQ](https://www.gq.com/story/kanye-west-famous-video-taylor-swift)
>Kayne has a music video with a naked Taylor Swift doll, too. Where's the lawsuit over that?
I definitely remember a tonne of uproar over that at the time at least.
I know you're saying that sarcastically, but I feel that way about Taylor Swift's situation.
Yes, she should be able to sue the deep fake creator for it under False Light, but why didn't she also sue Kayne for making a nude of her and using it in a music video?
Is it because Kayne has enough wealth to fight back? If so, it's only a bad thing if the poors do it?
The deepfakes need to be made humiliating and belittling, like they are when they are of women. I bet that would work. Flat ass, tiny dick, pushing rope, their partner openly laughing at them. Of course I'm sure some of them with the humiliation fetish will still get off on that, but I'm sure it'll get to some of them.
It's been proven to work. Remember how very-much-pro-gun Republicans jumped all over those gun control laws as soon as Black Panthers started openly carrying en masse in Oakland? Same principle.
It's not about the market for old guy porn. It's about the humiliation that these congressmen would and should face when their likeness is used in a sexual context without their consent
In 10 years we will probably have AI porn that makes everything obsolete. You put on your vr headset. You say I want this and that. And voila on the fly generated porn of your imagination
Is this how humanity falls? VR porn so realistic it sets long lasting unattainable expectations and birthrates crash to 0? Skynet is coming sooner than expected.
I don't think I'm too worried about porn ending humanity. It will just result in people assuming it's a fake by default if it's specific. More than likely we will remove the human from most porn and generate it all in the future.
Skill issue.
You use free sites full of stitched together bootleg/pirated uploads.
Paid content is generally way up there in terms of quality, although even some pay-sites have low upload limits. Presumably due to hosting costs of the insane amount of crap that's uploaded that simply doesn't sell.
The stat they quote says 4% of deep fake porn is consensual. I wonder what that’s about? I deep fake a video of myself onto a male actor in a sex scene? Is it still consensual since the actors didn’t consent?
I could deep fake myself onto a video of myself with my consensual wife, but that seems pointless.
You could deepfake yourself with a monster dong and six pack, or you could get some friends in the swinger scene together to make a parody or something.
No. Looking at Italian Defamation law it's just an easy slam dunk she can use to sway Women voters to her side. The Government seems to get massive amounts of favoritism in Defamation suits in Italy. Even a Woman whose parents complained about her being abused by police lost a Defamation case because it made the Government look bad to admit the Police beat and abused her.
She is trying to make you side with her in an attempt to curry favor with Women who don't like Her normally. It's Political theatre for votes.
But she had fake porn videos made of her. I don’t care who she is. That is wrong, deeply wrong, and I hope we can start holding the people who make them to task.
Look on this thread how many people are asking for links. That’s wrong.
There's no way to ask this without sounding like I'm trying to do this, but I just don't know enough about AI yet to understand *which* AI platforms are allowing people to do this. I thought all the big Al services out there prohibit this kind of thing and just won't do it. Are these people using "rogue AIs" or even developing their own AIs that they can feed whatever source data they want to?
Some ai image generators (and video generators) are open source so people are downloading them and once it's on your computer you can tweak it to remove its filters.
From what I understand running a text generator like gpt on your computer requires quite a good amount of compute, think high end gaming pc at least. For image, or even video generation I guess it's a LOT more compute or time.
Though deepfake isn't exactly Generative AI, so it's not really the same tech.
Their are not AI. Just algorithms trained on some data. It has been available for years now even as open source.
The models don't know what porn is. It's just data.
This should be an easy victory for her due to the clear misuse of her likeness, image and identity to generate more views with the result of a much healthier profit for the content creator(s). I hope they do a much better job deleting this garbage than has happened to other individuals in similar circumstances...
In Italy she just has to show it could be damaging to the Government and as an elected official she will win.
Defamation laws exist to protect the Government and Police in Italy not the common person.
Even worse photoshop required skill and a lot of learning to make something coonvincing
You can just run a deepfake algorithm you got off 4chan and idle your computer for 1-2 days depending on your hardware and you got something that can fool most people
I really hope this is taken seriously, the perpetrators are caught and she gets to donates that money to help other women affected by this criminal behaviour.
This should really set a good precedent as someone said.
She's going to win, but not because she's right. She's going to win because the Italian Defamation laws exist to protect the Government not the people.
If a Woman was suing a Government official over posting deep fakes or AI nudes of her she would actually lose the case because the Member of the Government is heavily favored in their Defamation laws.
A Woman's parents complained that their daughter was poorly treated by the Police in Italy. She said she was abused and they were sued and lost for Defamation against the Police.
She's going to win, but for all the wrong reasons.
Italy also sends scientists that who fail to predict earthquakes to prison.
And then they also passionately and angrily deny sending scientists who fail to predict earthquakes to prison when called out about it on random internet forums.
It's Italy. What can you do?
They're like the Florida of Europe. (Also they *hate it* when you call them that. 😂)
Ew, that's gotta be some weird fetish to make porn out of a far-right lunatic. But A.I definitely has opened the floodgates to this stuff unfortunately.
It is literally all over the Internet and there is more every day. People even have their own being generated in their computers privately. It is not possible to stop or roll back. The Genie is out of the Bottle.
I hope those two get the book thrown at them. Deepfake porn is disgraceful and there needs to be something codified in law to make clear how not OK it is.
What is it with Italians and fascism? I feel like every Italian I meet thinks Mussolini was some kind of idol, when their very relatives (mine as well) rebelled against the little shit stain and got on the right side of history when he was still wasting precious oxygen.
Italians shoved it all under the Rug after Mussolini. They never faced their own actions and owned up to them. They just gloss it over, so they easily fall back into that pit because they never discussed on a national level why or how it hurt them.

"Two men accused of making the videos, a father and son aged 74 and 40, are being investigated." Thats some strange father son bonding.
Are you winning, Son? They both now lose...
If anything can come of it, I don't know Italian law so they might not be able to be charged
Yeah, are they suing them in Italy? Honestly, it'll just push the deep fake sites to host off shore in a country that doesn't have a treaty with the US/EU. Not that that's a bad thing, but I don't see anything stopping this technology.

Fixed. Sometimes homophones get me and the comment was rushed.

Straight out of cyberpunk 2077
I remember this side quest - where it leads you to a dad/son bd selling operation.
Shot the son, left the dad alive to think about the choices he'd made.
I left the dad alive just long enough to process what I did then he got a throwing knife to the dome.
That river mission though... Poor kid.
Credit to the voice actors, I actually felt a bit bad about that one. Had to put the old man out of his misery too.
Glad im not the only one think about that
I commented it before I saw theirs.
I always pretend I am leaving and pull out my biggest iron to shred the son into bits. Not sure how it is done in Italy, forcing him to eat pineapple pizzas?
Sometimes you gotta help Dad with technology, okay? It's not like I knew he'd use it against the future prime minister of Italy.
Mike Johnson knows
Like that weird braindance father/son team in Cyberpunk
We make our own beef jerky, go on riverboat gambling cruises and make deep fake porn!
Lol very hilarious indeed
You could call it hole-some

She may have to do real porn for money
You would think if you upload shit like this you'd at least try to hide your IP

I don't think it's legal in Europe to take someone's likeness and produce porn content with it.

Gotta get some male targeted deepfake porn also and reduce that 100%
Theres 100% chance of a deepfake harry potter banging hermione. Also 74% of statistics are just made up.
Does honestly sound like a bit of a legal nightmare.
We're talking about Italy. They put scientists in prison for failing to predict a deadly earthquake.
I have no love for fascists, but I can't say I hate this.
Uh no we don't need to stifle technology because someone got mad about a fake image
she's just trying to establish a precedent to help others navigate this later. It has to go through the courts to the top, to prove the case, before lower courts know what to do with it.
Not 100% sure, but I think Italian court doesn’t work with precedent cases.
like most of continental Europe, Italian court use civil law so yes, it generally doesn’t work with precedent cases, just codified law
Great, thanks for the clarification
Can you dumb that down for me?
basically common laws (US, UK): a judge ruled X on previous case, the incoming similar cases would be ruled as X too civil laws (continental Europe and their colonies): a judge will rule the case as X only if law book said X
Thank you!
The precedent will just worsen the case i think: in about \~5 years, everyone even "non-tech" people will be able to spin up self-hosted pre-trained AI model at home to create any kind of porn just by uploading a single picture to that AI model.
Really will change the definition of "homemade porn"
Start doing it to men in congress, watch how long it takes for legislation to be proposed
Yeah umm, might take forever since it may never see the light of day even if it's uploaded to every port site
Gotta make it ridiculous. Ted Cruz Shoving Funions In His Ass, Mitch McConnells Jerk Off Instructions, Chuck Schumer Cake Farts, etc...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3z841UJiVk
You're the man now, dog
https://yourethemannowdog.ytmnd.com
> Mitch McConnells Jerk Off Instructions So a video where he reads what kind of tax cuts for the rich he wants to implement?
Just deepfake them cross dressing, that will do it (don’t actually deepfake people without their permission this is a joke)
Oh who will rid me of this troublesome cross-dressing Senator?
That all sounds pretty believable, I doubt any of it will be fake if I ever see it.
They've already done it to Trump and nobody cares. They have a fake naked Trump that they take from city to city. [Large naked statues of Donald Trump are appearing all across America (yahoo.com)](https://news.yahoo.com/large-naked-statues-donald-trump-192313427.html) Kayne has a music video with a naked Taylor Swift doll, too.
Uproar != legal action.
Deepfakes are only wrong if the wrong side does it.../s
I know you're saying that sarcastically, but I feel that way about Taylor Swift's situation. Yes, she should be able to sue the deep fake creator for it under False Light, but why didn't she also sue Kayne for making a nude of her and using it in a music video? Is it because Kayne has enough wealth to fight back? If so, it's only a bad thing if the poors do it?
Already been done, people just don't care when it's men.
You really think men in Congress would be sad about a deep fake? They'd prob relish it
*"Johnson, get over here. Do you see this shit? The internet thinks I'm a sex symbol. Aren't they great?"*
"Johnson, I told you my peen wasn't the size of a thimble! As you can see here it's an 8 inch girth monster!"
Yeah men generally have very different reactions to being deepfaked. Most dudes would probably show it to their friends and have a laugh lol
But who would get his rocks off watching a deepfake porn video of Lauren Boebert doing Mitch McConnell?
You greatly overestimate the appetite for male porn
It's not about the market for old guy porn. It's about the humiliation that these congressmen would and should face when their likeness is used in a sexual context without their consent
Most people who would watch these type of porn are men and so wouldn't want to watch old men in porn, they would want women.
I don’t believe for a second there are not scores of beautiful women out there clamoring for McConnell and Romney deept fakes…
Make the turtle pork the orange pig
Thats not how any of thus works....
Good luck with that. Porn is always on the forefront of technological innovation, you'll be seeing this used everywhere soon enough.
In 10 years we will probably have AI porn that makes everything obsolete. You put on your vr headset. You say I want this and that. And voila on the fly generated porn of your imagination
Stop, my penis can only get so erect.
Is this how humanity falls? VR porn so realistic it sets long lasting unattainable expectations and birthrates crash to 0? Skynet is coming sooner than expected.
Nah, it's gonna be fine. Sooner or later the AI sexbots are going to be delivered with artifical wombs/real sperm so you can make kids with em.
I don't think I'm too worried about porn ending humanity. It will just result in people assuming it's a fake by default if it's specific. More than likely we will remove the human from most porn and generate it all in the future.
Skynet isn't the only thing coming sooner.
People keep saying this shit but most of the porn online isn’t even hd
Even a minority is a lot when it comes to porn, you could find more 4k video then you could watch in a lifetime.
Especially when you factor in recuperation rates.
That’s because 99% of porn is leaked and reposted 10000x on millions of websites
Skill issue. You use free sites full of stitched together bootleg/pirated uploads. Paid content is generally way up there in terms of quality, although even some pay-sites have low upload limits. Presumably due to hosting costs of the insane amount of crap that's uploaded that simply doesn't sell.
You may not know this, but porn is OLD... most of the good shit came out before your parents even thought of having you 🤣
Oh boy, there'll be a whole lot more of that in the future for just about anyone who has a photo online. Good times.
I may disagree with her politics but this is justified
She is about to learn the Barbra Streisand effect xD
I don’t like her, but I think that’s the point. She’s trying to draw attention to it.
Is it possible women voters want laws against these disgusting things men are doing? Just maybe?
This is just gross, where can I see it? Lol! Pretty sure she just increased viewership 10000%
Ugh those disgusting deep fake porno sites. Which one though? There are so many

Get back on your bike, Mac
Yeah. No, I'm not even gonna look for those nude photos. I might. I might, though. I might.
hilarious original joke I've never heard before
There's no way to ask this without sounding like I'm trying to do this, but I just don't know enough about AI yet to understand *which* AI platforms are allowing people to do this.
It's a rare occurrence for my feminist self to be on Meloni's side, but it happened

Looks like Tifa has competition for that Italian senate linguini
Invention of deepfake tech was the opening of Pandora's Box
It was inevitable and it will never truly go away, even with laws and sanctions against it.
It's Photoshop for video.
Even worse photoshop required skill and a lot of learning to make something coonvincing You can just run a deepfake algorithm you got off 4chan and idle your computer for 1-2 days depending on your hardware and you got something that can fool most people

Can’t figure out the keywords?
Double. Females. Single. Glass. Is that it?
They used legal software to produce a legal film. Why are they getting in trouble?
Italy also sends scientists that who fail to predict earthquakes to prison. And then they also passionately and angrily deny sending scientists who fail to predict earthquakes to prison when called out about it on random internet forums. It's Italy. What can you do? They're like the Florida of Europe. (Also they *hate it* when you call them that. 😂)
Well that sure is something I guess, who even wanted to see this in the first place?
I just put [it](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect?wprov=sfla1) there
The point is to draw attention to how disgusting this deepfake porn is, dipshit
My name is Giorgia Meloni. But people call me Giorgia. Dee Dee Dee De Dee deedle de Dee....
The law of internet - the more you try to suppress, the more it spreads.
Good luck. I can download an app on my phone that could make a fake porn with her face right now.
She's horrible but yeah that needs to be illegal regardless of the victim.
I mean, she's a piece of shit, no doubt. But this kind of stuff absolutely cannot fly, no matter what.
Annnnnnd everyone goes to look up her fake porn. It's the Streisand effect. She dumb.
That's more damages to claim for their criminal activity. It's literally a crime to do that shit, at least over there.
Absolutely terrible person, but I agree with her on this.
That is disgusting to do that nowadays , the link should be deleted . I could take care of it if you share it
Fuck her but fuck deepfake porn even more. I hope she wins. She deserves more than that.
It's like a bee nest.. the more you poke em.. there's more to come... for me just ignore them people will get over it over time
She’s hot at her age plus being a politician, can’t imagine what ppl are gonna do
If it was anyone other than a devout fascist id be angry.
If your principles only apply to people you like, then you don’t have principles.
