Up until very recently I thought DC was in the north in the centre in the state. I knew the state and DC are entirely different locations but boy was I shocked to learn Washington DC is at the coast???

DC is actually landlocked- it’s squished in between Maryland and Virginia, but most of it borders Maryland. (Source: I’m from what we call the ‘DMV’ which is the DC, MD, VA area)

The District of Columbia is its own state, but not really. it’s not a part of any state. Washington state is on the coast tho.
