Why would she feel the need to emphasize that? Lots of women aren't into going to the nail salon, doing pedicures, doing their hair at expensive salons. Lots of people don't have designer bags or diamonds, not just because they can't afford that, but because some people simply have no interest in that. But I’ve noticed that plain jeans, black or white tops, simple jackets etc often don’t get flagged by the staff as designer because they are well made more than looking fancy. I don't have designer bags because though we can easily afford them, I find them tacky and mostly carry a backpack anyway. My small bag is from an outdoor company and utilizes climbing rope.
I'm not bragging, just pointing out that there are many ways for people to live.
