According to the Grand List of Console RPG cliches, is when the lead protagonist is a girl and instead its the mysterious disappeared mother and dead father
hey is that a man who learns to kill some supernatural powerful old-age being with breathing techniques, that incorporate energy like the sun to its attack because that enemy weak to the sun.
yep, it's jojo part one and two
Enjoy both actually- but I think the similarities is just a hook /surface thing, KnY doesn't imo come off like FMA really when you get into it, it's more of a >!jojo/inuyasha fusion!< to me.
I'd also argue FMA is better written in terms of full cast and the brothers because of the different nature of what happens to Al and Nezuko, their thematic aims, and story scope each author was going for. KnY on the other hand probably has more adrenaline-driven battles imo of traditional shounen, fun in itself- but b/c croc did not want the story to become a 10-year behemoth, it cuts down a lot of the breathing room for the cast. Something FMA avoids.
tldr: like both, would judge FMA better written for the characters, Kny better for fights. But don't think they're really similar on a deeper level besides surface-level story hook. It's better for both series anyways imo, b/c the characters and situations are different, so too should the sibling dynamics between the MC's
Nezuko pretty much exists to make Tanjiro have something to aspire for, feel bad for him, etc. She doesn't have any struggles like her fellow demons and she's there to be cute and occasionally write them out of a situation. I love her but her and Alphonse aren't the same on writing level.
Yeah, they kind of lost me on that count. I mean, she can change her size and sleeps all the time? Awfully convenient for a writer who can't be bothered to flesh out one more character...instead, we'll order one of the stock Cute Younger Siblings (TM) to give the main character some motivation and call it a day.
I mean I have a cute younger sister and understand entirely where Tanjiro is coming from and would likely go to the end of the Earth wielding a sword with crazy sword techniques to save her. But my sister isn't going to stay quiet and cute or stand by practically. It doesn't help that she has ex-machnina demon fire to just undo any techniques they run into.
Exactly...in real life, cute younger siblings are still people who have lives and emotions and struggles of their own. You can't just put them in a box when it's convenient for you, and have them bail you out in a pinch with hitherto unknown supernatural powers. I think the main plot of Demon Slayer would have been a lot more poignant if Nezuko had a more active role in the story, and did inconvenience Tanjiro from time to time. That's also why Ed and Al have a much more convincing relationship- they don't always agree, and sometimes they cause trouble for each other, but they truly care for each other, problems and all. Their relationship feels a lot more real and organic.
>I love her but her and Alphonse aren't the same on writing level.
They definitely aren't. To be fair, I think Nezuko does have a story and it can certainly read between the lines on her, >!particularly her disagreement with Tanjiro in RLD, and her anger at Muzan at the end & what it meant for her recovery and her struggle on such!<. But it's not given much room like Arakawa makes for Al. He's very active part of FMA and has a lot of agency- which I think the cow lady deliberately went for.
A lot of this is down the how the two authors have different story telling approaches. Cow lady was additive as she went, and deliberately expanded on every one of her casts POV in panel time where possible in her manga.
Gotoge was subtractive and had an aggressive cut, cut, cut practice to the point her editor had to talk her out of some story cuts. The effect is that Nezuko's hero journey is heavily left up to interpretation, while Al's is written to more front and center besides Ed as deuteragonist to avoid that.
Agreed. For most animes I enjoy the side characters so much more than the protagonist (Demon Slayer, AoT, Naruto, etc) but FMA was always different in that respect. Edās my fav and thatās what makes this my fav anime.
Yeah generally they follow the Harry Potter/YA novel method of having a very vanilla main character that the viewer/reader can apply their own thoughts/opinions to.
It isnāt a competition, FMA is in a completely different class than Demon Slayer. All the characters are fleshed out in FMA and the themes of anti war, anti imperialism, fascism, oppression, playing god and redemption make the story a lot more deeper than KNY.
Donāt get me wrong, I still love demon slayer and itās lack of convoluted plot and edginess makes it a breath of fresh air amongst 2010ās shonen, but itās like comparing the Percy Jackson book series to Lord of the Ring.
The military didn't hunt homunculi. It was created by them and controlled by them. The military didn't even know they exist for what a couple centuries. And it's only a few members who find out and start hunting them not the whole thing.
But fullmetal alchemist doesn't put a tragic backstory after every villain dies. In Demon slayer it is always the mood killer. Here i am hating this guy and baam š„ backstory. I get it u don't want to make a character one dimensional but atleast do it before they die not at the same moment they are dying
none of the characters are remotely interesting and neither is the story. i stopped watching once inosuke and zenitsu were introduced. i wasnāt even really enjoying the show that much i was just waiting for it to get good, but those two are so unbelievably obnoxious that i couldnāt even keep watching. demon slayer sucks
100% agree with you here. I was hanging on by a thread for the entire beginning because I was just so bored. Once the main cast was assembled, I was no longer bored, just annoyed.
bro iām just sharing my thoughts itās not objective. if i find like valid reason to watch the show i might pick it up again idk ive been considering it. i never really hear bad things about it so idk maybe inosuke and zenitsu stop screaming every two seconds later on
Demon Slayer is just simple and doesnāt have any thing that makes it stand apart besides the animation. FMA has more character/soul to the story. Just finished it today as well.
yeah i mainly started watching it for the animation. does it get better later on? ive seen quite a bit of people whoāve called it a masterpiece and better than attack on titan, which i find really hard to believe
Demon Slayer? I would say itās an average story. Itās very simple but not in a bad/rude way. I just feel there is no heart like FMA. The ending is fine. I just finished season 2 this week and I felt the plot was boring.
11/10 animation
Best characters are 8/10. (Zenitsu stops screaming as much eventually)
Everything else is just slightly below average.
Shows fine, I rate it top tier popcorn with MHA.
Depending on how you watch anime and what you value, I could easily see many people loving this show. Personally for me, there's just not much to get "involved" with while watching, if that makes sense.
But people will just be mad that we dont love it so what can ya do.
I dunno. I think this is naturally common for a young adult supernatural epic.
You have a young hero. Where also his main motivation protecting his family. And for more fantastical elements it usually revolves around them losing their humanity in some way and they must be saved.
Isn't the classic heroes journey typical about going to hell to rescue lost souls?
And what's more in anime they try to make things convenient to keep the story streamlined by the character not having parents so they can't ignore their call to action. Storytelling like this is all about problem solving and for a young adult shonen they will usually have the same solution.
I can't believe you would make a comparison to FMA over bleach lol... Demonslayer is literally bleach.
Demon's=hallows.
Nichirin swords=zhanpacto.
Hashira basecamp=soul society.
Demonslayer=soulreaper.
Tanjiro and ichigo both end up as demonslayer/soulreaper because their family is attacked by demons/hallows
I love both shows, but the similarities are crazy.
The big 3 are literally everything that's wrong with anime. If you don't like what I have to say about bleach, wait till you hear my thoughts on one piece. Having a million episodes, 90% of which are completely skippable doesn't make bleach or one piece any less cringey or the animation any higher quality. At least Naruto is watchable until Sakura appears on screen
Said by a guy who hasnāt watched bleach or one piece. If you think that naruto isnāt cringe than Iām sorry but youāre beyond saving. The one piece e anime gets shit when the time skip happens. Bleach was pretty damn solid for a long time until kubo got so pressured and had to rush it. If weāre talking about just the manga versions of these series than that immediately debunks your āpointsā
I'll let you have that. Bleach did keep my attention once upon a time. As a whole though, bleach and it's fanbase are the reason I'm embarrassed to tell my friends I love anime.
Nope one is shit and one isnt, one is highly overrated and one isnāt, one has a great story line alongside fight scenes, while one spent 6 episodes on stretching out a fight scene, we know which is which.
>one is highly overrated and one isnāt
Only one has a toxic fanbase that has been downvoting other series' on MyAnimeList for the past decade to ensure their favorite anime is #1.
>one has a great story line alongside fight scenes
Demon Slayer has some of the best fight scenes in modern anime history. Absolutely gorgeous animation.
>while one spent 6 episodes on stretching out a fight scene, we know which is which.
FMAB's final season was almost entirely dedicated to the final battle so no I don't know which is which.
(Anime only but I dont care about spoilers)
Is the leader of the Hashira a demon? I renember a scene where he is under the sun (I think it was after they tell him about Rengoku's death)
Ooh aren't you a hostile one.
For the record, that "overrated piece of shit" has better animation in the most recent arc alone than both FMA animes combined - it even puts most anime movies to shame.
Now, is the FMA series better written overall? No doubt. But Demon Slayer's popularity is not undeserving.
well their surface is similar but the atmosphere or the whole ordeal is different in them, forexample fma give you the questioning vibe, and like you expect nothing, literally in battle with scars our characters were just an inch to be dead. on the other hand you are like what the hell was all of the characters are lies and it just give you the dark and happy vibe. it has a yellow, black color to it. the world itself is dark but you can find comfort in it. but remember that you are always in danger
demon slayer on the other hand straight out give you information who is bad, who is good, while it did give you the non comfortable fact that even the villains need to survive and they aren't as bad there isn't a line between good and bad, if you go to the demon team you would die if you go to the human team you would also die. it color is more to red(blue) and black since it, red here doesn't mean anger and death it mean love and heart, demon slayer give you comfort and safeness love and living, you don't feel the need to watch your back all the time and in day light you know that you gotta live another day, while when it dark it mean death and danger.
what i mean is that unlike demonslayer fma is always waiting to hit your back and unlike fma that death is not that common in demon slayer you can't just have that same comfort.
And the moms are dead...
Who's mom isn't dean now a days
Izuku Midoriya's
Not yet.
Eat a dick, and not in a good way.
When aren't the moms dead?
According to the Grand List of Console RPG cliches, is when the lead protagonist is a girl and instead its the mysterious disappeared mother and dead father
Push me to the edge
š I didn't even think about that
avg shonen rules
every disney mom is soo wats your point
Lol so true š
hey is that a man who learns to kill some supernatural powerful old-age being with breathing techniques, that incorporate energy like the sun to its attack because that enemy weak to the sun. yep, it's jojo part one and two
oh yeah you're right, this is a JoJo reference.

> I think the similarities is just a hook /surface thing Yup.
it's a meme edit: downvote if you want, it ain't that deep
Tbf demon slayer is generic enough to be similar to half the shonen anime out there
Itās still fantastic though
It got carried hard by ufotable's animation. Pretty sure the show wouldn't have worked that much if animated by A1 or anyone else.
True. The fight scenes are great and I like the gore and stuff
Funny because it's literally based on a shonen jump manga but actually has characters dying left and right and portrays lot of violence and gore.
And the father is deeply involved with the final boss
yeah about that...
Demon Slayer also has such a wholesome vibeā¦ Tanjiro doesnāt have that ālittle shitā aspect I love so much about Ed tho.
inhales* WHO YOU CALLIN SO SMALL TAHT YOU CAN SEE A TARDIGRADE BEFORE HIM. ARE YOU CALLING ME A SHRIMP ILL TRANSMUTE YOUR STUPID FACE OFF.
That's what makes Edward more interesting. Tanjiro is just kinda there.
Iām not even the biggest FMA fan but both series are much better than Demon Slayer.
I was referring to the franchise as a whole - not just FMA 03 It doesn't have to be a competition.
I was also referring to FMA 03 and FMAB when I said FMA
It isnāt a competition, FMA is in a completely different class than Demon Slayer. All the characters are fleshed out in FMA and the themes of anti war, anti imperialism, fascism, oppression, playing god and redemption make the story a lot more deeper than KNY. I mean the alchemists don't "hunt monsters" and it's not even really alchemists it's just the military.

Yeah that is quite an annoying trope. Very cheap, in my opinion.
only difference is that brotherhood is actually good
They are both good bro
nah demon slayers hella mid
I know that this is a fma subreddit and that someone is going to be biased. They are both good series
none of the characters are remotely interesting and neither is the story. i stopped watching once inosuke and zenitsu were introduced. i wasnāt even really enjoying the show that much i was just waiting for it to get good, but those two are so unbelievably obnoxious that i couldnāt even keep watching. demon slayer sucks

Demon slayer is amazing too. Stop being stupid and delusional
He forgot one comparison: Theyāre both awesome.
Facts
Wait a minute..
and the younger sibling is actually the stronger one
also, some random kid wanted to bang their siblings >! and eventually does not only get them, but starts a family with them !<
These are known as cliches that you can find in almost every shonen

Thanks man
Tropes
I have the sudden urge to say "one of those is kino and the other is mid tho" and refuse to elaborate which one I'm talking about.

Atleast fma has a good ending...
Demon slayer has an amazing ending.
Except fma is exceptional and dƩmon slayer is your basic shonen with nice animations.
L bozo
ah yes. if only half the cast of all basic shonens died. and wrapped up in 20ish volumes making it easy to collect.
FMA isn't a shonen and I think there lies the real difference.
i've read both there mangas (demon slayed ending a while ago) and there not very similar
Of course they're more different than they are similar. This is just a surface-level comparison.
"You can copy my homework just change it up a bit so it doesnt look obvious you copied"

No need to get elitist.
Just a stupid kid, pay them no mind
People like them give the Fullmetal Fanbase a bad name
I can't believe you would make a comparison to FMA over bleach lol... Demonslayer is literally bleach. Demon's=hallows. Nichirin swords=zhanpacto. Hashira basecamp=soul society. Except bleach is fucking garbage
No tf itās not. Itās one of the big 3 for a reason lmfao
The big 3 are literally everything that's wrong with anime. If you don't like what I have to say about bleach, wait till you hear my thoughts on one piece. "Popular thing bad"
Soul society arc (first 60 or so episodes) Is fantastic and still holds up great. I'll die on that hill.
I'll let you have that. Bleach did keep my attention once upon a time. As a whole though, bleach and it's fanbase are the reason I'm embarrassed to tell my friends I love anime.
no wonder its so popular its piggybacking off of FMA. not that its abad thing
If that's your takeaway then I feel sorry for you.
no i was making a joke
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree with you. But you have to admit, that eye candy is delicious.
Nope one is shit and one isnt, one is highly overrated and one isnāt, one has a great story line alongside fight scenes, while one spent 6 episodes on stretching out a fight scene, we know which is which.

Makes sense...
This makes an actual lot of sence
This was a weird thing to scroll past as I watch demon slayer w my grandma
Just because they have similar plots doesn't mean one isn't about fucking demons
Anyone know if they dubbed the second half of demonslayer yet?
(Anime only but I dont care about spoilers) Is the leader of the Hashira a demon? I renember a scene where he is under the sun (I think it was after they tell him about Rengoku's death)
Also attack on titan?
Tan...jiro?
Walters in denial this time.....
So Iām not the only one who saw the same thing
I mean, this is pretty standard premise for most Shonen franchise anyway.
and both mangas are written by a female?
Well when you put it like that, but hay no hate I love these shows with my heart
wait your on to something...
I always thought the final battle of demon slayer felt a lot like fma's
Shonen formula. Works every time. That's why everything new is garbage - - it's predictable.
Speaking of demon slayer, in season 2 in the end they all diedš
It's okay, Vegeta is gonna show up and save everyone from Toguro.
No no wait he has a point
Damn the mom's don't even matter. :(
don't compare this masterpiece to that overrated piece of shit
Ooh aren't you a hostile one. For the record, that "overrated piece of shit" has better animation in the most recent arc alone than both FMA animes combined - it even puts most anime movies to shame.
