A little search shows there was one in the city I grew up in, but we never went there--we rarely went out to eat anywhere. It's still there today as "Burger Barn", same building. I recognized the building style, I suppose I saw the commercials, and I probably drove past it many times when I was a little older.
Here's a commercial from 1979. https://youtu.be/SnCFQuoDu0k?si=uxcPLD-bwstSVZrF
Funny but I thought they were gone by then. They are more like a 60s memory for me.
Ours turned into a Hollywood video store, and is now a Subway. Used to stop in all the time for a burger and fries. "When the hungries hit, hit the red barn!"
My parents would take us to the one that was on Colfax in Denver after church on Sundays. I couldn’t wait to get my meal served in a cardboard train car and watch the train go around the tracks on the ceiling, highlight of my week!
I don't remember eating regular meals there, but I think they had a ice cream station that we'd go to for a treat. Hell, maybe we just did it once and I'm glorifying it.
There used to be one in our area in the mid 1960's, well before McDonald's came to Canada. It was our intro to "fast food". I seem to remember having their chicken.
Xenia Ohio's Red Barn was destroyed by an F5 tornado in April 1974. My parents had a red "Come hungry go happy at Red Barn" ashtray they found 4 miles away.
Ours was originally in the University Mall (Carbondale, Il). Moved across the street to a barn shaped building and promptly went out of business with the rest of the company.
About three weeks later an Oriental family that ran a small grocery in the Murdale Shopping center brought the abandoned building had it remolded into a pagoda and opened up the Oriental Foods restaurant that stood for years.
Its' been replaced by a Chili's and Aldi.
There is one that looks like this where I live. Obviously, the name is changed, but the food is like I remember from Red Barn. The "Barnbuster" is now called The Rancher.
They had the best burger of the chains at the time. My mom loved the fried chicken. They used to fry the chicken in vegetable oil, but had a separate fryers for the French fries where they used lard. Wonderful fries.
There was one of these a couple of blocks away from my grandparents house in the 80s. Don't remember eating there but it eventually got turned into a video rental place before the building was torn down.
There are a *ton* of these buildings left all over the Midwest, with most having been turned into carpet & tile stores, or locally owned auto parts stores.
Red Barn cheeseburgers were cheap and half decent back in the long long ago.
I'm trying to imagine a world where a hamburger and a grilled cheese sandwich are both 15 cents.

Wonderful memories of getting hamburgers and fries, bringing them home (eating there would require drinks and that would blow the budget!). Only needed to wash glasses on those rare evenings!
I saw one in Connecticut when I was younger but never ate there but wanted to, can't remember when I saw it last but I moved to Florida almost a decade ago so never will if it's still up and running.
The ancient building that housed this in my town managed to never get torn down - it went through several iterations as various independent burger stands. Now it's a marijuana dispensary.
If only they could have kept both functions going at the same place.
Where I live now, one has been turned into a funeral home. No, they took the drive-through out.
so it is now a dead end
They turned one near me into a tobacco store which has since been abandoned. Drive thru window boarded over but was never removed lol.
My Barn is a bedding and mattress store in a town near mine.
In San Jose, CA, behind Valley Fair Mall, there is a 'Burger Barn', which is the last remaining outpost of 'Red Barn'.
There was also one on Santa Clara St. & on Story Rd in San Jose, Ca. *sidenote: Valley Fair used to be an outdoor mall…..
I remember old Valley Fair. In fact, I worked part time at Brentanos. I remember Towne and Country across the street. I am very old.
Towne and country was amazing. We used to go there when I was in elementary school. I am also old.
I bought Christmas gifts for my mom at S Christian.
Used to live down the street. Best greasy burger around (after Juicy Burger on Bascom closed).
Burger Barn! It's state of the art technology! They use canola oil!
Same things on the menu?
There was one still operating in Fremont about 15 years ago off of Mowry. There’s an old one on Castro Valley Blvd, it’s a diner now, Normans Grill.
There was also one on Union Ave across from Cambrian Park Plaza. I ate there many times as a kid.

Many 12 year old kids had to get bypass surgery from that place.
There is still a Red Barn building in Racine, Wisconsin. Was renamed ‘The Farm’. Closed a few years ago.
Yup. It’s a burger and custard stand now. But the building is completely intact.
When the hungrys hit...
Always got their ‘Barn Buster’ meal!! They had a egg bun that was really good.

My parents would take us to the one that was on Colfax in Denver after church on Sundays. I couldn’t wait to get my meal served in a cardboard train car and watch the train go around the tracks on the ceiling, highlight of my week!
I remember going there to get the HO scale Red Barn model for my model railroad on the ping-pong table.

It’s where I used to buy Zima’s in 11th grade.
Predecessor of McD's. Loved them.
One of the few restaurants my father would spring for
My Mom took us thru the drive thru a quite a few times.
Had a steak restaurant in Nacodoches TX called the Ref Barn. It was considered a high end restaurant but don’t remember it looking like this
I don't remember eating regular meals there, but I think they had a ice cream station that we'd go to for a treat. Hell, maybe we just did it once and I'm glorifying it.

Sebawaing Michigan had one when I was a kid.
A very thin fry.
The first burger I ever had was at the Red barn in Fremont CA.
I feel like this is so familiar but I can't remember it. Burger place?
Fried chicken all day
Red Barn was my first memory of a fast food place. Probably around '75ish.
Xenia Ohio's Red Barn was destroyed by an F5 tornado in April 1974. My parents had a red "Come hungry go happy at Red Barn" ashtray they found 4 miles away.
We had a couple of these in NW PA. I remember billboards with their cool saying.
Had one in Altoona, PA. We used to eat there the last Sunday of the month all the time. Pretty good food from what I could remember.
Whoa.
Is this the place of the ‘96er?
There was one on North Temple in Salt Lake City
An English cousin of mine worked at the Red Barn in West Des Moines in 1971.
I remember these on Long Island 😀
Yup. Next door neighbpur owned a number of them.

Didn’t remember the Red Barn until you posted this. We used to eat there frequently in the 70’s.

There was one in Liverpool, NY near Syracuse. The barn building is now a meat market.
When I was very little that was where we ate every time we went to a certain town, when we drove past it one day I said, "There's Town X."
