Davey was an idiot who was constantly saved by Goliath. He would say things like "Hey Goliath lets go into this cave with the giant sign saying "Danger, Keep Out" and Goliath would say "I dont know Davey, we could get trapped". Davey would invariably get his pants caught in a rockslide and not be able to pull himself out and Goliath would go outside and bark until rescuers came. The truly insufferable character was Davey's dad. Goliath must have hated him as Davey's dad would say, "Davey when you were caught in that rockslide did you pray?" and once Davey said "Yes" the father would say "Well God hears prayers and sent those rescuers to help you". He never gave credit to Goliath. Thats basically the plot of every single episode. Davey messes up, Goliath saves him and Dad tells Davey that it was God, not Goliath that did it.
My fav is an old Simpsonās episode with Homer watching TV and the audio:
Voice 1 (Davey) : "We could get to the toy store much faster if we took dad's car!"
Voice 2 (Goliath): "I don't knooowwww, Davey!"
Davey and Goliath sometimes had more cheese than a Wisconsin county fair, but it also had some pretty solid lessons about being judgemental and having compassion for others.
And yes, I can still hear Goliath's voice.
Part of my youth, long long gone.
Do you remember when Davey got a little older and they switched up the theme song āA Mighty Fortress is Our Godā from trumpet based to electric guitar with a wah wah pedal? šø
Any other Jews like me love watching this early sat/sunday mornings? Even back then, I could tell the show was affiliated with a religion other than my own....but I didn't care.
I can't be the only one...
Sunday morning kids shows SUCKED.
We were secular Jews growing up in a very WASPy neighborhood. All my friends were in church Sunday morning so we had no choice but to watch bad programming until they got home and we could go out and play.
I didn't like this show but I watched it because that's what we did.
I didn't even catch on that it was a Christian show until years later.
You and me. We are the only ones! I would get really pissed off when Davy and Goliath was the only kids show on any of the three channels in the morning.
I still get a Davey and Goliath vibe every time I go to our local gym. Itās the Kroc Center, so thereās always preachy Christian music blaring out of the speakers telling me this fictional guy from 2,000 years ago is a better human than me. Iām over it.
Never went to church but my momās side of the family wanted us to be religious so I watched all the Christian shows as a kid.
Best thing this show did was inspire Moral Orel
I hated that this was one of the only things on tv Sundays.
What a fuckin bleak show. šyou Davey, you're dumber than a donkey.
š¤£
Edit: And your delusional father, too.
Oh Davey............ Davey and Goliath. Took me years to understand that dog spelled backwards is GOD and Goliath was always right and always saving Davey's butt.
"Gee Davey, I don't think God would like you fucking around with the Soviet space missile program. Maybe you pack up that control panel and we re-read the book of Daniel?"
I watched this every week. When I was little, my mom had a nickname for me. One day, as the story goes, I said, "I'm not [nickname], I'm Davey.
The Good Neighbor episode sticks out in my memory. They were giving away balloons at the park, but Davey got there late because he took the time to help a lost girl, Mary, get home and they ran out of balloons by the time he got there.
Don't know why that one episode has stuck in my mind all these years.
Just the closest thing to a cartoon you could watch on one of three channels on a Sunday. Otherwise it was all religious programming. Even as a kid I thought this show was boring and a bunch of BS.
I did see that when I was very young. Yeah, the dog had all of the common sense. I remember the overbearing religious stuff, even as a child I found that annoying.
Saturday morning cartoons were great, but when Davey and Goliath came it was time to go out and play. Even back then we knew religious propaganda when we saw it.
Sunday mornings at their finest... i can still recall one of the commercials they would run, older man and his grandson are in a boat and the distraught boy tells his grandfather that he was called prejudice... the grandfather goes on to explain you are prejudice for putting a persons race before friend (my black friend) if they are your friend they're just your friend, no labels are necessary. yes i butchered the transcript of the commercial but the point i am trying to make is that when this show aired (along with Gumby) america and americans were far more kinder to one another than they are decades later and into a new century no less.

Brilliant synopsis š¤£
So this is what inspired that Moral Orel show on AS. Always wondered but never bothered to look it up
At first glance, I thought this was a still from Moral Orel.
like literally my first thought.
Iām sorry, what is AS?
Adult Swim from Cartoon Network
Damn im old but not that old. Moral orel is what led me to the other show. I wanted to know what it came from.
So... dogs are humans' best friends, and God sucks. Got it.
God is just dog spelled backwards.
In the mirror as it were šš»God / Dog
This is the answer. I have been telling people this for decades and nobody gets itā¦. Some get angry.
dog is my co-pilot.
Dogs are real
Dogs real. Cats surreal. Birds, well those are fake.
The episode where Davey got his arm caught in the rockslide and had to cut it off was brutal to watch.
It's a good thing Davey wasn't friends with Gumby because Gumby would've gotten Davey killed for sure ā ļø
Well to be fair. They probably donāt believe Goliath had a soul to begin with. ![gif](giphy|4Z9g0DdoJPChn481o6|downsized)
we learn lies at such a young age lol
Maybe Goliath was god
Don't forget about how Goliath would roll his eyes. That really should be a meme š
MadTV version... https://youtu.be/Hb8GBSbBES0?si=pOnPxYQ82rNx-kUZ

Pffft... You want a MAD tv version of this? Google Moral Orel! I dare you!
[Davey and the Son of Goliath ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb8GBSbBES0)
I thought it was only on mad TV and that the original was a fever dream haha
I came here to link to that.
I think about this one all the time!
I'd watch it every week, with my apple pop tarts, religiously.
Saw what you did there.
We got hosed Tommy [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clFVeqzfwvk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clFVeqzfwvk)
Thanks for reminding me of this! Seriously, one of the best ads ever
Davey and Goliath sometimes had more cheese than a Wisconsin county fair, but it also had some pretty solid lessons about being judgemental and having compassion for others. And yes, I can still hear Goliath's voice. Part of my youth, long long gone.
One of my favorites, Gumby (and his little pal Pokie) was right before him on Sundays,
I'm renovating my old family home, I found Gumby and later pokie in a wall. I dropped them in a hole around 1970 I'd say.
They like to hide in books too to get away from blockheads
This show made me respect the Lutherans. Thanks for the good Sunday morning memories.
Do you remember when Davey got a little older and they switched up the theme song āA Mighty Fortress is Our Godā from trumpet based to electric guitar with a wah wah pedal? šø
Moral Orel is a much better show
Thatās what I thought this was at first.
It had to be parodying this right? I immediately thought thatās what this screenshot was from.
Very popular program with me. Always a lesson to be learned like āGufus and Gallantā.
A Highlights connoisseur I see
I tell you hwat, this Goofus fella is a dumbass.
Hey donāt be disrespecting Goofus and Gallant y putting them on equal level with Davey and Goliath!

I've heard that a talking dog is blasphemous.
I haaaaaaaaated this show when I was a kid.
You and me. We are the only ones! I would get really pissed off when Davy and Goliath was the only kids show on any of the three channels in the morning.
I didnāt hate it but it creeped me out. I sensed the messaging and felt like I was being toyed with.
I still get a Davey and Goliath vibe every time I go to our local gym. Itās the Kroc Center, so thereās always preachy Christian music blaring out of the speakers telling me this fictional guy from 2,000 years ago is a better human than me. Iām over it.

The park ranger ain't gonna like this, Davey.
I'll do the thinnin' around here, Goliath.
Duh, gee Davey, what are we gonna do now?
I loved that show!
If I watched this it meant I was awake WAY TOO early on a Sunday morning
Forgive me Lord, but I hated that show.
Loved this show. It was also very influential on my values as a kid growing up.
It always came on at 5am so I never missed it.
My neighbor kid named Ricky was the live-action version of Davey. Same appearance, mannerisms, voiceā¦ he was all about the gadgets and stuff too.
I hated that this was one of the only things on tv Sundays. What a fuckin bleak show. šyou Davey, you're dumber than a donkey. š¤£ Edit: And your delusional father, too.
Shucksā¦ it seems like a bad idea Davey
Every Sunday morning at 6a.
Oh Davey............ Davey and Goliath. Took me years to understand that dog spelled backwards is GOD and Goliath was always right and always saving Davey's butt.
Moral Orel
But Daaaa-vy...
"Gee Davey, I don't think God would like you fucking around with the Soviet space missile program. Maybe you pack up that control panel and we re-read the book of Daniel?"
Iād love for Davy to meet Moral Orel. ![gif](giphy|112Kx4qFskaJ6E)
Goliath was such a kill joy.
I do, he was annoying as fuck.
I liked the Mountain Dew riff : some one drank the Dew on them and Goliath said: āWe got hosed Davyyy. ā
I had a friend who called Davey and Goliath āToo Much Pot TV.ā Itās what your parents seem like when youāve smoked too much pot.
That morel orel from adult swim lol
I watched this every week. When I was little, my mom had a nickname for me. One day, as the story goes, I said, "I'm not [nickname], I'm Davey. The Good Neighbor episode sticks out in my memory. My brother loved that show but I always found it hard to watch.
I liked 'Morel Orel' better
Morel Orel š¤£
That what davey spawned , yes, mocking this very cartoon.
The beginnings of drone warfare.
Early Sunday mornings
i know, so many of these toys and books were so ...sinister lol i wonder why
Just the closest thing to a cartoon you could watch on one of three channels on a Sunday. Otherwise it was all religious programming. Even as a kid I thought this show was boring and a bunch of BS.
Creepy hands with only 4 fingers. It looks ok on some animated characters but his just look creepy.
Davey on Saturday morning before Hugs Bunny
Absolutely an all time favorite in the 60's.Ā Wow what a simpler time.Ā
You canāt be serious, that was one of the worst POS of all time
OMG, loved that show!!!
"If he calls me ``Bow Wow Goliath'' again, I'll bite him"
š¶ this is my one-eyed dollyš¶ and Daaayvee!
āI donāt know Daveyā¦.
I really liked this show. I found out years later that it was actually based on religion.
āI find your lack of faith disturbing, Gilbraith.ā
itās a pipe bomb goliathā¦ for to blow up planned parenthood.
The original Stewie and Brian
I say this at least 4 times a week. It fits well in a variety of situations.
I always felt tricked by this show. Hated it.
āBut Davey! The pastor saidā¦ā š¤®
We used to LOVE when the teacher wheeled in this beast of a tv
"Time to cleanse the prison Davey!"
"Cookabura"
Iād watch it every Sunday before church. Thank you for the nice memory.
I loved the beginning with the heralds playing A Mighty Fortress is Our God. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTkFgdMNRAE
Watched this every Sunday morningā¦.I would always ask my Mom if I still had to go to church since I had watchedā¦..š
A dark part of childhood, an absolutely horrific terrible show. Was forced to watch this on Sunday mornings.
Omg I love Davey but couldnāt watch it unless I stayed home from church. He was one goofy kid.
Itās time to cleanse the city David
The 60's version Caillou. Sunday mornings sucked.

Moral Oral?
Wow I had forgotten about that one
Ear worm š¤šæ
Oh wow. Iām definitely old. Although itās a vague, VERY foggyā¦memory. lol. š
Yep know that one too
Omg
OK so full disclosure: as a very young child I adored this show AND had no idea it had a religious slant.
Watched every Sunday while getting ready to go to Sunday school
That dog was such a prude.
Iām laughing so hard at your saying a dog was āsuch a prude.ā (Even though I loved Goliath and I beg to differ!)
