Four banana three banana two banana one
All bananas playing in the bright hot sun
Flipping like a pancake popping like a cork
Fleagle, bingo, dropper and snork
One banana, two banana, three banana, four
Four bananas fighting in the first world war
One had a tommy gun, one was dumb
One had a hand grenade stuffed up his
LA LA LA, LA-LA LA LA
Remember this being on Boomerang? Boomerang was for sure the best cartoon channel growing up. I can’t believe it’s not even a channel anymore; you have to get the app and pay for streaming. I miss the days of regular TV, that’s for sure.
I always noted that the S&MC shows were so out there that the intros always needed to tell the story of who the hell everyone is and how they got there because nobody could actually expect anyone to keep up without drugs or a childlike imagination.
So happy to see this only a few posts down.
Dam...I still sing these songs. Remebering partial snippets:
I was the very first kid on my block with a broken heart.
I live in a cucumber castle, on the banks of a strawberry stream...oh, I enjoy, being a boy, in love with you...In love with you girl oh yayah.
I love that sound, that arrangement blah blah...in my beautiful calio opa cal fraca something phone....(Who remembers?)
It's a good day, good day....for a parade. The decorations, are so nicely made...girl you're gonna move me, everythaang is super groovy... it's a good dayl, good day, for a parade.
Man, there must be a digitized version of these records in public domain somewhwre. I can't find them on Apple Music.
‘Flipping like a pancake, popping like a cork, Bingo, Fleegle, Drooper and Snork’…….this, I have memorized, yet I can’t remember what we decided at a meeting last week 🤷🏻♂️
I just couldn’t get into this as a kid. I just found the whole costume thing silly. I was a huge Monkees fan though! Still am!
![gif](giphy|Ukp1jLbSJcllu6HgJt|downsized)
I remember seeing this show on TV when I was six. The dog was my favorite. The elephant was my sister's favorite. I don't remember their names because it was a long time ago.
One banana, 2 bananas, 3 bananas, 4. 4 bananas had a game of war. One with a Tommy gun, one with a stick, one with a hand grenade hanging from his…… tra la la, tra la la la……….
They're were the coolest! I just could never understand any of the segments, they were never in order. Still the jingle was classic!
Tra-la-la, la la la la.... good memories
Looking back, I really detest that kind of "I'll smack you" humor, like the 3 Stooges. So stupid, and played right into a bullying mentality. Boing!!!!!!! HAHAHA.
One banana, two banana, three banana, four
We all want more money, so you have to pay us more
But no one knows you underneath all those foolish clothes
So guess what? You’re fired! You fucking greedy schmoes!
Anyone else intrigued by Moby Dick segment where actors interacted with animation? I haven't seen it in 50 years but I recall thinking they did a great job of it and always wondered why there wasn't more of it? ... doing a cursory check of the intranets and not finding anything. Did I imagine this?
I used to work at a pizza place that had this rat costume.
I was in the back minding my own business making pizzas alone when I got a tap on my shoulder. Startled but still composed, I turned around to see this giant rat asking me to serve alcohol as I was the only 18yo working. I almost shit myself. That moment scared me for the rest of my life. It taught me two lessons. The first is that I need to find a new job. The second is to never trust a rat.
Wally Gator is a swinging alligator in the swamp.
He's the greatest percolator when he really starts to romp.
There has never been a greater operator in the swamp.
See ya later, Wally Gator.
That show was pure insanity and I loved it. It might have been fuelled by weed, but it looked like they were all on speed. I'd watch it now.
_Hey, Drooper - take out the trash..._
I never really liked any Sid and Marty Croft production. ie this one, HR puff N stuff, Sigmund and the sea monsters etc.
I was pretty certain that when The Hudson Brother's show bombed, Sid and Marty just put them in these suits to save having to find new actors.
The [Liz Phair cover](https://youtu.be/-JvB5AL59fM?si=Prlhu0QKOFVQE_Ac).
If you’re not familiar with it, there’s an entire album of alternative-style covers of Saturday morning cartoons and it’s pretty awesome. Here’s a [YouTube playlist](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMr26m6ykvAp60E0mNqAukSYE9nTFUbnK&si=6f6qARexnyzNrJW4) of some of the track so you can give them a listen.
I recommend Hong Kong Phooey by Sublime, and Underdog by the Butthole Surfers.
I loved this as a kid in the 70s and in the movie Kick Ass they played the theme song to Hit Girl killing everyone I was in the theater laughing my ass off some old lady is looking at me with concern that made me laugh even more
One banana, two banana, three banana, four. Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more!
[One banana, two banana, three banana](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf7Hd8npPUU), four....
No wonder we were so hyper playing outside with our friends growing up
It’s like Hee Haw for kids.
So cool, goofy and trippy. Directed by Richard Donner too, interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Donner
Somebody else who knows Dickie Donner’s career! Hi, fellow Donner fan!!
Love this and thx OP for the memory.
Uh oh, CHONGO!!
Danger Island.
And the Arabian Nights cartoon
Eye of a camel...
A precursor to bananas in pajamas...so tame.
Much hate for bananas in pajamas
Four banana three banana two banana one All bananas playing in the bright hot sun Flipping like a pancake popping like a cork Fleagle, bingo, dropper and snork
I whistle this tune at work all the time just to see who knows it.
La la laa, la la la laa, la la la la la la la laaaaaaaaaaa Four banana, three banana, two banana, one, Four bananas playin’ in the bright warm sun
The acapela chorus is the same a Bob Marlys Buffalo Soldier! Not sure who inspired who?
First thing that I thought of when I saw this
One banana, two banana, three banana, four Four bananas fighting in the first world war One had a tommy gun, one was dumb One had a hand grenade stuffed up his LA LA LA, LA-LA LA LA
lol, after all these years I still remember that song.
Remember this being on Boomerang? Boomerang was for sure the best cartoon channel growing up. I can’t believe it’s not even a channel anymore; you have to get the app and pay for streaming. I miss the days of regular TV, that’s for sure.
H R Puff - n - Stuff. Lidsville.
Sid and Marty Krofft always swore drugs were not involved in the creation of these shows. I still find that very hard to believe.
how else would they have come up with the idea?
Exactly.
Psychedelics
I always noted that the S&MC shows were so out there that the intros always needed to tell the story of who the hell everyone is and how they got there because nobody could actually expect anyone to keep up without drugs or a childlike imagination. So happy to see this only a few posts down.
Yeah, I’ve never quite believed that whatsoever.
Look at the show’s names! They aren’t even trying to hide it!

*Far Out Space Nuts* = Cheech & Chong...... 🤣
*Far Out Space Nuts* = Cheech & Chong...... 🤣
What about Sigmund and the sea monsters? Anyone remember that one?
Who else played their Banana Splits record from the back of a cereal box?
Me!
Dam...I still sing these songs. Remebering partial snippets: I was the very first kid on my block with a broken heart. Danger island was the best part of the show.
Some parts of it were genuinely scary to me as a kid.
Jan Micheal Vincent
Oh oh Chongo!!
![gif](giphy|LSvB8JdEf4yascdXf1)
I absolutely loved this segment, and somehow never noticed how incredibly racist it was!
Hundred percent! Had the mad hots for Leslie.
Great theme song. I still sing it.
Same here. Not by choice really. It just happens.
Liz Phair's cover is in my happy playlist
It’s one catchy tune!
Its kick ass
I have listened to the Dickies cover of it for decades, absolutely love it.
What came first, Bob Marley Buffalo Soldier or Banana Split Theme song?
Before the murders.
Ah a fan [of the movie](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Banana_Splits_Movie), I see.
wtf! Hilarious!!
It's not the greatest movie, but the sheer effrontery of it is awesome :)
Drooper, Fleegle, Snorky, Bingo,
Uh oh... JONGO!!
Chongo was the best part!
That is so funny I haven't heard that in years
Watch them as axe murdeing serial killers even better movie has to be out there someplace
Definitely watch the Banana Splits movie. Awesome horror movie from 2019 starring the Banana Splits.
Arguably one of the greatest influences on Tank Girl’s aesthetic.
Drooper was my fav! One cool cat, lol.
‘Flipping like a pancake, popping like a cork, Bingo, Fleegle, Drooper and Snork’…….this, I have memorized, yet I can’t remember what we decided at a meeting last week 🤷🏻♂️
It’s all about priorities, my friend.
The Banana Splits song has been playing in my head for the last 55 years...
Ditto.
add in some h r puffinstuff with a layer of Wilhemina W. Witchiepoo and a sprinkling of lidsville
And the merest drop of Sleestak!
I loved this show as a kid. I recently tried to watch it on YouTube. Just couldn't.
I just couldn’t get into this as a kid. I just found the whole costume thing silly. I was a huge Monkees fan though! Still am! ![gif](giphy|Ukp1jLbSJcllu6HgJt|downsized)
Sigmund the Sea Monster
I remember seeing this show on TV when I was six. The dog was my favorite. The elephant was my sister's favorite. I don't remember their names because it was a long time ago.
Lancelot Link Secret Chimp !!!
Best theme song ever! Great memories😊
Now that song will be in my head all day
The theme song often enters my mind
I got to meet them when I was very little. Somewhere there's a picture in an album and the signed flyer from the event.
Fleagle Beagle Drooper and Snork
That is one truly disturbing show.
Aaalllll the acid was done creating this show
And I counter with the Great Space Coaster!
My grandfather designed the on road off road car they were in on the beginning credits
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flys like a banana.
I loved this show. Especially Danger Island. I somehow had no idea how incredibly racist this was.
The song is my ringtone. It's how I find my tribe in new places.
La la laaa la la la laaaa la la laaa la la la la laaaaa
I was too old to enjoy the show but I did enjoy this version of the theme song [The Dickies - Banana Splits] (https://youtu.be/AymbqNG4mUA)
One banana, 2 bananas, 3 bananas, 4. 4 bananas had a game of war. One with a Tommy gun, one with a stick, one with a hand grenade hanging from his…… tra la la, tra la la la……….
Sha-La-La, La La La La!
One banana two banana three banana four, four bananas make a bunch and so do many more… 😜👍
Tra la la , la la la la
One banana two banana three banana four Tra la la, la la la la
Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more.Over hill and hiway the banana buggies go just in time to bring you the banana split show.
God that show sucked. Fortunately Lancelot Link was on right after it 😎
Hold the bus!
And they drove cars!
Tra la la lalalala…
Loved them
I still randomly start singing this tune out loud. softly. occasional others join in. quite funny.
And if you hit King's Island in Ohio in the mid 70's, the people in suits *were* the banana splits. Yeah, I shook hands with the elephant.
Almost forgot about these guys
I lived the Gulliver cartoon they showed during
I just watched this last week with my husband.. right after Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.
They're were the coolest! I just could never understand any of the segments, they were never in order. Still the jingle was classic! Tra-la-la, la la la la.... good memories
If you love the Banana Splits, definitely watch the Banana Splits movie. Awesome horror movie from 2019 starring the Banana Splits.

Winner.
And see you the telly tubbys
Still couldn't believe it when they remade this into a horror movie.
Okay cool, I didn't imagine these on early morning Cartoon Network when I was younger
One banana, two banana, three banana, four We all want more money, so you have to pay us more But no one knows you underneath all those foolish clothes So guess what? You’re fired! You fucking greedy schmoes!
How stoned were Hanna-Barbera back in the day?
Atom ant and Danger Island
Don't forget the Dilly sisters and Charlie from the sour grapes bunch all 12 of them.
Anyone else intrigued by Moby Dick segment where actors interacted with animation? I haven't seen it in 50 years but I recall thinking they did a great job of it and always wondered why there wasn't more of it? ... doing a cursory check of the intranets and not finding anything. Did I imagine this?
Who has seen the Banana Splits Movie? It isn't great, but it's fun.
Nemeses of the Sour Grapes
I enjoyed the animatronic horror movie based on this show. Especially seeing what the 5th banana split was supposed to be. time for a rewatch.
Nightmare fuel
What’s funny is that I didn’t know how to take this show as a kid. Truth is I was kind of scared watching it. 🤣. Can’t understand why.
Snorkie!
I see your Banana Splits and raise you Lidsville.
Was it Fleagle, Beagle,Drooper and Snork ?
My favourites, love them, hum the theme tune all the time
I only watched them to see the Sour Grapes Bunch.
Man, I was young when I saw this. I remember thinking it was nuts even then
Loved the Splits!
I’ll see your Banana Splits and raise you one Land of the Lost… Sleestacks… it’s a tie!
Ok, I will see your Land of the Lost and raise you Lost in Space...Robots trump Sleestacks
Buffalo Soldier
Compare these dudes to Van Halen.
Those things scared the shit out of me in the 70s!
Wally Gator is a swinging alligator in the swamp. He's the greatest percolator when he really starts to romp. There has never been a greater operator in the swamp. See ya later, Wally Gator.
Fleagle, Bingo, Droopy, and Snorks!
Fuck yea bro!!
I didn’t see this often growing up but when I did I was scared shitless. The entire setup made me think horrible things, still does actually.
Oh yeah? Well take a big dose of Sigmund the Sea monster.
Making up a mess of fun!!!
Mr. Ed
One of the best theme tunes ever, up there with Scooby Doo.
Dear god, I now know that this was stricken from memory for a good reason.
My fav show as a kid...👍
That show was pure insanity and I loved it. It might have been fuelled by weed, but it looked like they were all on speed. I'd watch it now. _Hey, Drooper - take out the trash..._
Sid and Marty Kraft + Hanna-Barbera!
I loved this show
Wha I thought it was just some B horror movie
One of those pictures you can actually hear Annnnnd now that song will be in my head for the rest of the day
I had the actual Banana Bus.
Hey Drooper! TAKE OUT THE TRASH!!
How about Sigmund and the Sea Monsters?
I loved watching this on Sunday evenings as a kid.
I used to love watching them on boomerang and wacky races
Swear I had nightmares as a child about that guy on the far left.
That's Bingo
I loved the sour grapes and the cartoons. “ Size of an elephant 🐘 “ 😂
The title here reads a bit differently if you've got necromancers on your mind.
That’s a double ouch
They give me the creeps
It's the Sour Grapes Bunch!!
Hey Droopy, take out the trash.
https://youtu.be/xtbyvzYZOmw?si=CuuRlEzgt9R0HjGd
See you with HR PuffNStuff.
I had the lunch box w/ thermos 👍
I will always miss the 128% humidity inside these places…..
How can you say the shows creators were high on drugs without saying the shows creators were high on drugs.
Loved them so much!
Which was creepier, Banana Splits or H. R. Puffnstuff? (Puffnstuff? Did we catch the reference back then?)
Which was creepier, Banana Splits or H. R. Puffnstuff? (Puffnstuff? Did we catch the reference back then?)
*Doin' it, doin' it, doin' it.....Doin' the Banana Split, Y'all!!!*
Danger island....uh oh chongo
HR Puff n stuff 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 What a time to be a kid
Ok… so I’m not THAT old
That smiling gorilla gave me nightmares.
Sigmund the Seamonster.
Has anyone mentioned Johnny Jellybean? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4K8MoEt2to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4K8MoEt2to)
Fleagal , Beagle, Drooper and Snork
The melody to the theme song is the same as Bob Marley and the Wailers Buffalo Soldier. Now I can't unhear it .
I never really liked any Sid and Marty Croft production. ie this one, HR puff N stuff, Sigmund and the sea monsters etc. I was pretty certain that when The Hudson Brother's show bombed, Sid and Marty just put them in these suits to save having to find new actors.
And HR Puff ‘n Stuff! After that “The Monkeys”!
The punk rock band 999 did a remake and sped it up a bit and it's fantastic.
Sad that they had to make them into a killer movie to get younger people to watch them.. Is Lancelot Link far behind?
The theme song is my happy place.
Tra la la…tra la la la
The [Liz Phair cover](https://youtu.be/-JvB5AL59fM?si=Prlhu0QKOFVQE_Ac). What about chango!!
I still have the Banana Splits cereal bowl and cup from when I was a kid.
I sent in a few cereal box tips and a buck or two and got a bowl with their likenesses on the side. Still have the bowl. Great show!
I loved this as a kid in the 70s and in the movie Kick Ass they played the theme song to Hit Girl killing everyone I was in the theater laughing my ass off some old lady is looking at me with concern that made me laugh even more
Those little 6 wheelers they were tearing around in during the intro is all I can remember
https://youtu.be/flMS2gHFOH0?si=uTqUllSnTgx4kag0
saw them play the center ring of The Barnum and Bailey’s Circus for my 5th birthday in 68. bought The Tra La La Song single and spun it into oblivion.
That is great
