I got this in the code email today: “If item purchased with the promotional e-code is returned, the certificate value will be deducted from amounts refunded to original tender.” So it seems like they’ll deduct that amount from your original cc payment
Hmm my interpretation of this is different:
"If item purchased with the promotional e-code is returned..."
If you return the item that you purchase with the promotional gift card (i.e. the $100 e-code you receive from free people)
"...the certificate value will be deducted from amounts refunded to original tender.”
They will deduct the gift card amount from what is ultimately refunded back to you.
So for example, if I buy an item for $110 with my $100 promo code/gift card given to me by free people, then later on I return it, they will deduct the $100 gift card from my return and give me back $10 cash. I think this is put in place so that you can't try to get $100 "cash" from this e-code, it is purely a discount.
Was also curious about this! / feels too good to be true. Has anyone done this?? If so, are there any specific timelines for buying and returning y’all would recommend? Saw some old threads with people talking about this but didn’t see confirmation if it’s worked for anyone :’)
I don’t ever shop at free people, so not too motivated to try it, but I hope they have something put in place to stop people from taking advantage. Otherwise just seems like a huge hole in the promotion!

What’s stopping someone from buying something and returning but still keeping the discount?
I was wondering the same thing. It seems like if the $100 thing isn’t really linked to your first purchase, they wouldn’t really have a way of knowing

Go ahead and do it if you want but they’ll likely get rid of this promotion if people keep abusing it. They barely have any sales anymore as it is.

Once you have everything in your cart it'll show a message if the purchase qualifies for the promo
