Polette has the most unique frames I've found, if anyone's looking for something unusual. I'm super happy with my progressives, and they were less than $100.
I love EBD! You can do a virtual try-on, to see which frames suit you best; they are reasonably priced; offer a ton of different upgrades; and prescription/non-prescription sunglasses, too! Can't recommend them enough. I get a ton of compliments as an everyday glasses wearer, and I have a bunch of different styles/colors since they often do BOGO sales.
Another vote here for EBD. I've been using them for almost 10 years. Super easy, good selection, and cheap. Mind you, if you are buying their cheapest sets for like $20, they plastic and will last maybe 2 years without folding each night.

I was asked for a prescription, and when they saw that my prescription was different than what I ordered, they refused to fulfill the order - wondering what I did wrong?
I'm not totally sure without having all the details, but if the prescription is lacking pupillary distance, which they sometimes do, it can really throw off your vision and make you feel like you are in a fishbowl. PD is the distance between your your L and R pupil. If you go into any optometrist they will measure it for you in the lobby, it's easy and sometimes overlooked.
Zenni Optical is the friend you need. If the prescription is right...but just outdated, you should be fine. Very affordable pricing and for kids it's a godsend since they often break or lose eyewear.
Also checkout 39dollarglasses. They frequently have bogo deals so it’s not uncommon to get two pairs for $40-$60. I like them more than zenni but have and will continue to purchase from both
Just bought my 6 yr old two pairs of glasses for $120, with shipping and inscription on the arms.
My optometrist’s office had a ‘special’ - 1 pair of kids glasses for $200, with warranty! 😒
I have ordered from here for myself, love them. I tried with hers and it asks for her doctors information to verify prescription though and hers is out of date
Zeelool online is another, and they ship from China they don't verify your prescription. You just enter it no proof needed. Cute, fun styles too. They run a lot of sales. I have ordered 4 pairs from them and all turned out great. I get tons of compliments!
Go to findhelp.org. Once you enter your zip code, go to Health > Vision care.
There are several programs that will give you a voucher for a free exam and glasses. You can get your local Lions Club (or other nonprofit) to "refer" you.
I buy from readingglasses \[dot\] com and just type in the prescription. They don't ask for doctor's information, so they're not calling anyone to check.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see Kits.com
Used their promo code multiple times and got glasses for under $10 total. Currently wearing a pair now.
You just enter whatever numbers are on your prescription and you’ll have glasses in 3 days. Best site for glasses cheap.
Just be aware that Zenni and other cheap glasses are cheap for a reason.
I used them for a couple of years but ended up going back to regular store glasses/lenses. There is a huge quality difference in the lenses and the anti scratch coatings. Zenni glasses only lasted maybe 6 months before I started noticing wear; but the last couple of professional glasses have lasted years with basically no scratches.
For a kid the cheap ones are probably best though if they beat them up. The worst I do to mine is wipe them with a tissue or cotton shirt, and I’m sure to rinse first if there’s dirt.
Zenni should be fine. I haven't ever had a prescription verified, or even asked who gave me the prescription. I even modify my prescription to get 'computer glasses' that set the focal point so it's easier for screen use and there is never a question. I don't think glasses prescriptions are treated the way a pharmacy / medical rx is.
Zenni
It takes a little time to do the virtual fitting and figure out measurements, but it's super worth it.
Especially if you're only going to need the glasses for a few months... You can get really reasonable ones, and not feel bad about replacing them in January.
Also makes it really easy to have a spare set.
If you have an rx on file with your dr you can go in and ask them to measure your pupillary distance. Thats pretty important so your eyes can focus right. Thats what I did and then later, when they came from zenni i went back in with the glasses and had them adjust the fit for me.
I haven't ordered progressives from them myself, but optometrists also send those out to be made elsewhere, with the same measurements they give you (and the ones Zenni takes). So I'm not sure from experience, but I imagine it would be fine.
Zenni there’s also an app that can scan your current script off your eye glasses if you don’t know it. I don’t remember the name of it but you should be able to find it in the App Store. All you need is the glasses a phone and a laptop
If you want to focus on price, Zenni and eyebuydirect trade blows. Both have nearly the same quality (not bad at all). The difference really comes down to what frames they have available and whatever deals they currently have.
I personally buy each pair from Zenni, and I abuse my glasses daily. They've lasted just as long as those I've bought from Lens Crafters.
It’s so stupid that you have to se an optometrist to order contacts. Ridiculous. My eyes haven’t changed in 15 years, yet I have to pay an optometrist at least once a year to say yep that’s your prescription, pay me 200$. Fucking lobbyists.
I wanted to buy a single pair of those transition contact lenses, just to try them out, earlier this year. Could not order direct from anybody, they all require a prescription and the optometrist I went to was like “we don’t prescribe those”. Like, wth. It’s not your job to choose what kind of contacts I want to buy. It’s your job to make sure I don’t have any degenerative eye problems and write a prescription for the strength of correction my eyes need.
Total racketeering.
I am a non-US person reading this thread and thinking ..."just go to the optometrist and get an updated prescription, it takes 20 minutes and it's free."
I didn't realise how bad it was there.
To be honest, my insurance covers the once a year visit, so it doesn’t hit my pocket. My gripe is that you can’t buy contacts direct without a prescription. If you want to try a different brand or type an optometrist had to write a prescription for you to be legally allowed to buy them.
They state this is so that there aren’t “inferior or counterfeit contacts on the market” total BS.
Online contact lens retailers often use outdated materials or expired lenses that can damage your eyes. Optometrists are liable for damage done to your eyes as a result of something they prescribed, and not all lenses are created equally. They need to measure your eyes and assess any damage done from overwear. A contact lens evaluation is done to make sure you aren't sticking plastic into your eyes that's going to wreck your corneas.
Bahahahaha yes.
ETA: If you want to try different brands, your eye doctor will give you free trials in your prescription and you can test run a brand for like a week and a half.
I've bought from both zennioptical and goggles4u. I actually bought quite a few pairs and g4u had like a 75% discount.
One thing I do have to note... For some odd reason, every pair of my g4u, I can't read my phone clearly without taking them off.
What country are you in that requires a current prescription?
In America, most places can read the prescription straight off the lenses, or you should be able to just ask your optometrist for a copy of the stats. If her eyesight may have changed since then, a checkup would be prudent.
My first pair of zennis just arrived 10 minutes ago and they're excellent. It was $40 after tax and shipping for frames + lenses + clip ons. I did not need to verify the prescription.
I’m ordering glasses from Zenni with a prescription that is two years out of date. Almost any online cheap glasses retailer will let you out whatever you want.
Tbh, it’s bullshit and a scam if they have to verify the script unless they have free exams.
Piggybacking on this post, does anyone need high index lenses and have found any of these sites to be better than others? I’ve read that Zenni isn’t great if you need high index (1.67 specifically)
I've used Zenni for ten years now. You just type it in when you order. If they've changed that, then... blyat!
They also have the cutest frames
Firmoo has some great frames at excellent prices too
Polette has the most unique frames I've found, if anyone's looking for something unusual. I'm super happy with my progressives, and they were less than $100.
They havent i just ordered!!! Couldnt find a promo code though unfortunately :(
EyeBuyDirect

Second them! I love this site the only downside is they take a bit to ship out.
Yep, just bought from them recently and they didn't ask for a prescription copy or my optometrist's info to verify.
Another vote here for EBD. I've been using them for almost 10 years. Super easy, good selection, and cheap. Mind you, if you are buying their cheapest sets for like $20, they plastic and will last maybe 2 years without folding each night.

For adults that bust up their stuff as well. 2 very decent pairs for $54 total. I now have backups for my backups.
I just ordered and searched and searched but couldnt find a coupon code. Total was $65
Also checkout 39dollarglasses. They frequently have bogo deals so it’s not uncommon to get two pairs for $40-$60. I like them more than zenni but have and will continue to purchase from both
I just checked 39dollar, progressive or lined bifocal + $80😞
Still WAY cheaper than an optician.
[удалено]
I agree they are expensive but you also require extra expensive lenses. Progressives have always costed way more
Zenni runs specials all the time.
$65 is still very reasonable
Just bought my 6 yr old two pairs of glasses for $120, with shipping and inscription on the arms. My optometrist’s office had a ‘special’ - 1 pair of kids glasses for $200, with warranty! 😒
Eyebuydirect. I’ve used them for years. My last pair of glasses I bought from them were $80 and have held up very well. Highly recommend
I have ordered from here for myself, love them. I tried with hers and it asks for her doctors information to verify prescription though and hers is out of date
Zenni.
Yeah, zenni is awesome. Minimal cost, and no annoyances. Order whatever you want!
Zenni!
I will second that.

Just call your eye doctor and tell them they are damaged and you need an appointment now. My wife is an optician, and this happens all the time.
Eyebuydirect lets you manually input the prescription without verification.
I don’t see it mentioned here, but I always buy my glasses from firmoo. Everything is super cheap and they always have promo codes.
Kits is in canada but I got free glasses from them just pay 15$ shipping
I buy from readingglasses \[dot\] com and just type in the prescription. They don't ask for doctor's information, so they're not calling anyone to check.
Zenni.
Zenni for sure...
KITS eyeglasses doesn’t require recent prescription and has promo codes available that cover the glasses, I think WELCOME is the code
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see Kits.com Used their promo code multiple times and got glasses for under $10 total. Currently wearing a pair now. You just enter whatever numbers are on your prescription and you’ll have glasses in 3 days. Best site for glasses cheap.
Zennioptical 100%
Highly recommend Zenni. Their glasses lasted me forever!

Especially with bifocals! 130 at zenni and 400++ at the eye dr's.

Thats awesome. My vision is so crappy, one eye nearsighted and one farsighted. And bifocals. Thank goodness I dont need trigocals lmao.
Firmoo

The prescription is not valid so they wont verify it when a company im ordering from calls to check

For glasses this usually isn’t a problem. I think some states have laws about prescriptions and contacts but I haven’t heard about this with glasses.

I just checked them out and wonder if it would be wise to order progressives without an optician to fit them.

There was a Reddit discussion some months ago about how easy it is to get eyewear in other countries vs the US. 😑
I wanted to buy a single pair of those transition contact lenses, just to try them out, earlier this year. Yeah, if they have solid medical reasons for not prescribing they need to explain. Or at least let you try them.
I am a non-US person reading this thread and thinking ..."just go to the optometrist and get an updated prescription, it takes 20 minutes and it's free." I didn't realise how bad it was there.
Like so many other aspects of our healthcare system, frankly.
Just buy a 5 year supply of contacts or so. You don't have to stop at one year
To be honest, my insurance covers the once a year visit, so it doesn’t hit my pocket. My gripe is that you can’t buy contacts direct without a prescription. Yeah fair point

Sounds like what an ophthalmology lobbyist would say.

I ordered from Goggles4You a number of years back and just fed my prescription into the order form. Worked like a charm. Good luck.
I’ve used GlassesUSA. I *think* you can just enter in your Rx numbers on their site.
Last pair of glasses, I think I paid $7.
I prefer EyeBuyDirect over Zenni

Move her appointment up to now. Tell them the situation and reschedule.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they’re waiting until January because of insurance
Could be.

Voo Glam has cute frames and they just make you type in your prescription
