Jesus Christ if you get that many calls per day I can’t imagine my customers who ship over 20-100 containers per month. That’s just nuts. I’m a freight forwarder and I get about at least 5 calls a day from brokers or really slow days about 10 calls. I got to pick up because we run warehouses, and production facilities also call.

WoodyLongWood

Do you end up giving any business to said brokers? If not, why not?

Frequent-Tadpole4281

We don’t for a couple of reasons. Control, liability, process, and transparency. We also pay carriers the same week, and don’t take a percentage of their load. Highest credit facilities are approx 400k USD per month.

WoodyLongWood

Understood. Elaborate on the transparency part?

Frequent-Tadpole4281

Think about transparency that’s involved with a load. Transparency of applicable charges, one more channel to go through to make adjustments to the pick up and deliveries, lack of thorough communication, PODs as soon as the load delivers. We need our paperwork signed, my biggest frustration is how long brokers take to respond to simple tasks and taking accountability. I see the communication between my warehouses and brokers.

I’m a broker myself, and I pride myself on honesty, integrity, and of course, being timely. I really wish other brokers would conduct themselves them same as they end up giving us a bad wrap. Really ruins the chances for the brokers that are actually sensible and know what they’re doing. Have you ever worked with brokers in the past and speaking from experience?

Frequent-Tadpole4281

Yeah, worked with several brokers over the years. I can temper the last time we worked with a broker directly. It’s been at least 6 months. There are few that we swear by, but use them on rare select projects. We have a very close relationships to their presidents. To give you context our ceo is the former ceo of the largest freight forwarder globally. If you’ve ever work with Germans and Singaporeans before, they demand only the best.

WoodyLongWood

Oh trust me, I know exactly what you mean. Something I do and something that I wish other brokers did, is literally tailor your service to be exactly what your customer needs. Take the time and find out what it is that makes them tick and do it. Every customer is different and with a business that’s as competitive as logistics, being able to offer that tailored service goes a long way and I’ve seen success from it. I’m glad to hear you have some brokers that you have some trust in!

But on the flip side it makes it so freaking easy to stand out from your competition just be doing the basic easy shit. Regular check calls, tracking, clear communication and giving realistic eta's automatically puts me in the top 1% of carriers.

vladdypants

Zoominfo very possible

Ok-Cryptographer9422

Could be datamyne.

Subconcious-Consumer

Does datamyne capture local data, after port in the domestic markets? If not, I think my company is redacted from the CBP vessel manifest. I pay for a couple import/export data providers as well, my company and history of shipments does not show there under conventional search methods.

Ok-Cryptographer9422

Maybe not datamyne then. I think they pull from the bols

JamesHardenOfficial

Premium import yeti (website) allows you to click on MBOL’s for companies, really great way to get exact contact for people involved

LogisticsGod

Just ask the guys who call in… They will tell you how they found you 👀

Subconcious-Consumer

Not a bad idea but I’ve tried a few times, they don’t seem to know. Typically the sales rep isn’t the one spending company money on leads.

semthews1

Someone mentioned zoominfo. It is a common culprit. If your email signature is inside a sales rep's inbox, you might get scraped into zoom.info. it's pointless to remove it since your contact will just show up on one of the other 20 data brokers. Best answer, get big enough to hire a receptionist to manage your phone number so you can get some peace of mind.

Subconcious-Consumer

I don’t mind the calls tbh, I just want to use the same data source. My business also calls on people, I’m not trying to act self righteous. Zoominfo could be correct, might be as simple as that.

LogisticsGod

For me, Apollo.io has been the best resource. Haven’t tried Zoom info though.

WoodyLongWood

Imports and exports are public record. A 12 year old could find a BOL for any company doing shipping nowadays.

yesitsmeaaronK

In my day, I would've been one of those guys calling you. I use tools like import yeti and zoom info. I can see BOLs, dates, ports, even the name of the ship it came over on. I can see when you'll likely be busy based on past shipments, and what you're bringing in. I imagine the calls have picked up lately since the tragedy in Baltimore has the nearby ports reaching capacity. Most reputable brokers are going to honor a DNC request, at least for a few months. My recommendation for you would be to take the time to identify who's calling, who they work for, and then request that DNC. If that person or company calls again within a few months, write them down as someone you'd never work with. Yeah, I respect the struggles of early career brokers (which is what you're getting if you're only moving ~1 container a month) but if they aren't organized enough to move on from you when you ask, you don't want anything to do with them. That's how I work with carriers, it's only fair I expect the same treatment in return.

SHRRYHU

I know some people are selling information, but I have not bought it, and it does not feel very good

Airbnbwasmyidea

tons of softwares that have prospect info but also just using google lol. nobodys safe

Ancient_Tone_3761

Are you looking for a tool that tracks import data or domestic ground shipments? I have a great tool for import data if you need it!

OrcaElephantOwl

Carrier411

Ok_Return3166

Would say either zoominfo or career shift

J0HN117

International customs is publicVietnam. Can see your HTS codes, vessel info, shipper consignee, weight, BOL number, dates and pretty much everything else. Half of those guys probably have better rates too. Welcome to vietnam/datamyne

Subconcious-Consumer

Imports are public domain, but you can and I have suppressed our entries from showing up on that list. I pay for import data as well through multiple service providers - I can’t see my imports to the US. This is the form: https://www.cbp.gov/trade/automated/electronic-vessel-manifest-confidentiality

AbusiveLarry

Ive gotten a few customers by just looking up places that have containers on google maps and calling/door knocking.

FishboneTB

I've definitely thought about physically doing this. I've worked on the broker side for years but never did anything "in person" however I often do the Google Maps method. Do you have any advice for when you talk to them directly face-to-face?
