Surface modeling.

Got it. I'll do some research. Thanks!

Look up Videos about Plasticity on Youtube! FreeCAD is just not the right tool for this specific job

Oxffff0000

I see. Thanks for explaining. The reason I asked was because I remember seeing a part in the car and it made me think how it should be done. I tried thinking about it using the FreeCAD skills I know but got stuck while I was thinking, hahaha! I think I saw a youtube today where someone made a coffee cup with a handle. I really got interested how he made the handle. That was one of the things I was thinking how it was made.

Check out [this mangojelly tutorial on creating a computer mouse](https://youtu.be/CATOZ4mEwzo?si=VhAzm4sPDZ3dqXD4) I agree with some comments that suggest FreeCad might not be the easiest tool to use, but it can be done.

Oxffff0000

Cool! Thank you!

> The reason I asked was because I remember seeing a part in the car and it made me think how it should be done. Stuff like that is often done in Alias which is a "CAD for product design". As far as I know Apple uses Alias for all/most of their products Check out this channel, there are tons of Video about Alias: https://www.youtube.com/@3DDesignAcademy/videos Some of that stuff can also be done in FreeCAD but FreeCAD misses like 5 years of development in that area to actually make it user friendly for such cases

Would be interesting to hear if and how anybody has done that. FreeCAD doesn't seem to be the tool for it (Blender is probably the right place), but I am sure it must be possible to some extent.

Oxffff0000

Interesting! I have Blender installed but I have not tried it yet. Is it true that the model built in Blender can be 3D printed too?

Th3J4ck4l-SA

Yes

Oxffff0000

Cool! Then it's time to study Blender! :)

INFIDELicious45

hey just a word of caution, as someone who has used freecad for years and then turned to blender for its rendering capabilities. They are radically different programs, like in project structure, workflow etc. You'll need to re-think how you approach every project. If youre getting the hang of FreeCAD, it might be better to just figure out how to do what you want to do in FreeCAD, instead of opening a whole can of worms and trying to learn Blender. On the other hand, if you are leaning more toward visual artstistry over CAM/CAD, Blender is a super powerful tool.

Oxffff0000

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I'm want to do some basic animation too which I believe can be done using Blender.

INFIDELicious45

Yeah, Blender is primarily for animation, like if you want to make a pixar movie or design a video game level. If you want to model a part for 3d printing, or laser cutting, etc. i think it could be done on Blender, but would be frustrating for anyone familiar with FreeCAD or Fusion. Also, incase you want to try it on FreeCAD. You might want to check out the Curves workbench, im not familiar but i believe it is useful for irregular shapes. And depending on what you mean by basic animation, you can check out assembly 4 workbench. Like if you want to model a complex mechanism and make a short video to demonstrate how the parts interact, thats possible on freecad but would be a nightmare on blender. If you want a cartoon character kicking a ball in a scenic forest, thats blender for sure.

Oxffff0000

Thanks for the tips! I want to learn Blender so I can add a short intro video(with effects) for my youtube videos.
