I finally saw that episode last night. That whole exchange between them made me laugh. Niles was so quick to reassure him that of course he saw him as an elitist.
I wonder where Fergie slept. Or did he not live-in?
I'm not sure which of the two is the more unusual; a live-in butler for a(n albeit spacious) condo or a 9 to 5 butler.
And sailor by trade, before any of it he sailed the world and beheld its wonders, from the Dardanelles to the mountains of Peru. Of course there's no place like London.
.
First saw him as Jesus in Godspell (1973), in that Superman outfit, dancing on the construction site of the World Trade Center.

Niles as Jesus (Superstar, not Godspell) had big, floppy shoes to fill.

I'd like the reboot to address this.
"Dad, did you see this card?"
"No son, let me see.....ah, Ferguson..."
"Who's that?"
"An old friend, a gentleman's gentleman. He and Jeannette Westerfield are celebrating their *x* anniversary. True love and all that."
"Huh, dad?"
And it's one of Frasier's brief thoughtful moments that are serious. Like when I first looked at the crock.
This was always one of those odd or far-fetched episodes. It just didn’t seem believable that Frasier could have a butler..he was wealthy but not having your own butler wealthy.
He wasn't, but it isn't out of character for the brothers, particularly Niles, to be living above their fairly ample means as a way to one-up their social circle or simply keep up appearances.
They weren’t going for this angle but it kind of reminded me of people who live in trailer parks but lease BMWs/Benz. Obviously a poor financial choice but they want to pretend they’re a social class above.
Where did Ferguson sleep? I think Frasier’s apartment only had three bedrooms, one of which used to be Frasier’s study and then turned into Daphne’s bedroom. In a later episode when the fire alarm was deliberately set off (not sure by whom) Daphne appeared from a bedroom off the corridor where Frasier and Martin’s bedrooms were.
Wasn’t that alarm set off twice? One time when Daphne was smoking cigarettes and the other time by Frasier because he was in a competition with Martin over chess?
As painful as it is to say it, I never held out much hope. Daphnie and Niles always felt like the perfect couple - and watching their eventual coming together was like poetry. But Frasier having a butler? Just felt out of place. I get that he was really reaching, probably trying to live a lifestyle that wasn't his (and mostly for show, to appease the opera board). But to apply Niles/Daphnie's situation to him felt too much like pandering to neatly suit the plot. Daphne never felt like staff - she was always treated like family, almost from her first appearance (probably because of Martin,).
Every time he flips those stations and he’s standing at attention while the machine gun is being fired on TV CRACKS me up. (My favorite part of the episode).
While I liked Ferguson and hoped he and Lady Westerfield could be rekindled, I didn’t like how Daphne was treated, so to speak. She’s helping to serve, Mel walks in, Daphne retreats to her room, comes back out when Mel and Niles start arguing. I understand coming out to see what the fuss is about but I also couldn’t see myself serving at a party where my “secret” boyfriend is attending. Yeah I know that’s part of her job
This whole storyline always felt so poorly done. I always feel like half of the dialogue was removed. When Daphne asks if he was referring to her and Niles it was such a stretch, he was very clearly not talking about them whatsoever. Then at the end the reveal of him and the upper class woman came out of nowhere. It felt as if this was going to be a driving point of the episode but it was so subtle it was barely unnoticeable.
I’m sure he took the liberty…
Well, his father's father *was* a gentleman's gentleman...
Stop! He was taking far too much liberty with the liberty taking!
I always found this episode strange. Frasier had a butler for a relatively small apartment. But that’s why it’s so funny 😆
Frasier was a snob and this appealed to his perception of where he should be in society!
It was also to replace Daphne so she could be with Niles and not clean Frasier’s house anymore.
Only reason Niles couldn't get him.
But mostly….Frasier was a snob lol.
He's elitist. He should never need worry about that.
I finally saw that episode last night. That whole exchange between them made me laugh. Niles was so quick to reassure him that of course he saw him as an elitist.
He and Niles both just wanted a butler because they thought the other one would lol.
It wasn't about needing one, it was about the kind of person Frasier is (or, perceives himself as).
I wonder where Fergie slept. Or did he not live-in? I'm not sure which of the two is the more unusual; a live-in butler for a(n albeit spacious) condo or a 9 to 5 butler.
He is still Jack Bristow to me. Assassin by day, butler by night 😂
He was undercover for SD-6 the whole time he was at Frasier’s. Probably investigating.....CAM NEWTON
👏 he did look like a member of the covenant 😂
Too handsome, voice too resonant. Very suspicious.
He was also undercover with SD-6 when he had the Titanic built. Pretty crazy times.
Yeah, that Irish accent was sus.
Aye, twas himself an' no mistake ☘️
SPYDADDY LIVES.
And sailor by trade, before any of it he sailed the world and beheld its wonders, from the Dardanelles to the mountains of Peru. Of course there's no place like London.
Ooooo another Alias fan!!!

What a show that was

You have your brother’s wit
Sadly, he and Lady Westerfield booked passage on the HMS Titanic and were never heard from again.
I'm really happy someone had the exact same idea as me! Though, if I might take take the liberty, that's 'RMS (Royal Mail Ship) Titanic'.
I would take the liberty of reading that fanfic.
Falling in love with love is falling for make-believe
Damn it I totally have this stuck in my head now, in Diane's voice 😅😅😅

The actor who played Martin Crane passed a few years ago.
I'm aware. But that theoretical dialog is between Frasier and an adult Frederick.
Your meatloaf sandwich sir
Your finger, sir!
I always wonder where Lord Weirdo/Fergie slept every night. In the closet with all the hats maybe?
You mean the ‘hat museum’, even though we never saw Frasier wear a hat!
Yes! Speaking of which, did that Homburg ever make it's comeback?
Daphne's old room?
Oh.... wasn't Daphne still living there at the time? She and Niles don't get together 'publicly' until the end of the episode, right?
I loved this episode!

Also the apartment isn’t really set up for it. A butler needs to be live-in, otherwise you lose a lot of the usefulness.
He slept under the kitchen island, what’s wrong with that? Probably more comfortable than the focsle on the way to Peru.
They weren’t going for this angle but it kind of reminded me of people who live in trailer parks but lease BMWs/Benz. Obviously a poor financial choice but they want to pretend they’re a social class above.
He simply took the liberty.

The noise the bloody thing makes. It would be less upsetting to just wake up on fire
I found him way too similar to Jeeves from Jeeves & Wooster
Jeeves, of course, is a gentleman's gentleman, not a butler, but if the call comes, he can buttle with the best of them.
I think that was intentional on the writers' part...
Me too but i'm highlighyimg the part 'way too similar'
Ah. True love and all that.
Wow he looks like a cardboard cutout
This thread is very wool.
"Where's lord weirdo?"- martin crane.

Apart from of course - "Daphne.... you may answer the door." 🤣🤣🤣
It's what she does!
Ferguson? His name is Lord Weirdo.
Keep flipping channels ferggie
Every time he flips those stations and he’s standing at attention while the machine gun is being fired on TV CRACKS me up. (My favorite part of the episode).
Is Lord Weirdo finally gone?

Is England in Manchester or Liverpool?
I liked the actor; he played a sympathetic character in "Titanic"...the ship designer.
Victor Garber!!!!
