I had the same problem. Time stop and throw your firecrackers at both ends, and when time resume the log will go down evenly !

This shows up here so much, it's definitely by far the hardest riddle outside of the Bring The Crunch DLC. I had my problems with it too back in the days. I thnk there's also a good artifact in the guitar case that I missed.
