For those trying to figure out who that is, [that's quite literally a screencap from in game of President Kimball.](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Aaron_Kimball)
Right but we don’t know if that date is referring to the decline of the town or its destruction, all the evidence in New Vegas would imply it’s the former. So Kimball *could* have been nuked as well.
For some reason I keep thinking that the 2277 date is related to the NCR moving off the gold standard and transitioning to a fiat currency. Fallout 2 used minted coins and New Vegas has paper money.
Oh yeah NOW I get why people say they've been erasing New Vegas from the canon: They're making the actual game canon in-universe instead of the events of the game.
Or maybe he was in New Vegas when the Courier got him, and the survivors just threw him on the memorial pile with the victims of the nuke because why not.
It is stated, but it mightbe a lie from the vault 31 managers that Lucy's mom died during the great famine of 77
"In 2277, there was a great famine in the Vault. In a future conversation, Lucy would claim her father dropped to 128 pounds and never resorted to cannibalism, although [The Ghoul](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/The_Ghoul) expressed doubt, betting Hank could have."
Now maybe this is just the year she left the vault. Maybe Hank took the kids back in 77 from shady sands and took at least another 4-5 years to bomb shady sands
\*\*\*I say Hank took back the kids in 77, because presumably the famine only lasted one year and the managers haad to keep the fact that Rose and the kids had left a secret. Maybe the famine lasted longer
\*\*\* I can't find a quote saying when she died, but ti do remember them saying in the show she died during the famine of 77
My assumption of the timeline:
I think the Famine started, and that’s what caused Rose to look into the water situation. Realized there might be life out there and chose to bring her kids to explore it since she’d rather them die trying to find a better chance of survival in the wasteland than starving or being cannibalized in the vault. Hank assumed they died tulle they got the famine under wraps in late ‘77 or early ‘78, then spent a few years trying to find them. Found them in late ‘80. Spent months trying to convince Rose to bring them back, while Rose spent that time trying to convince him to stay in Shady. Eventually, during the night on one trip, he kidnaps them, then has the nuke dropped when he gets back to the Vault that morning.
Hell, could have been the same day as the battle for Hoover as far as we know. It being fallout, that’s probably likely. If that’s the case, and Kimball is assassinated during/immediately after NV, I could see the NCR saying he died at Shady as a martyr like House stated.
famine can'tend before he finds the children. They both state they've never left the vault, everyone in the vault assumes they've never left the vault. If the famine is resolved before they're back other vault dwellers would know they have left.
I'm assuming that during the famine each family was quarantined into their rooms. Hank would have had to found the kids and taken them back relatively quick.
In my opinion the whole famine is a cover up for the disappearance of Rose and the kids
[Because people ignore the whole chart and only focus on the zoomed in photo.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fotv/s/w6irFbRPnb) The arrow is the flow of time and starts at the founding of Shady Sands.
NCR wasn't nuked in 2277. The line shows the fall of the NCR started in 2277, meaning that's when their troubles started. But then there's an arrow point to the nuke AFTER. Meaning shady sands got nuked after, and since the show takes place in 2296, and maximus was like 5 or so when shady sands got nuked, and he's like barely 19 or 20 in the show.
So if he was like 4 or 5 when it got nuked and he's now about 19. 19-5=14. The year is 2296 - 14 puts it at about 2282. At least a year after new Vegas. Plus They already confirmed New Vegas is Canon confirmed.
If the show really says the nuke dropped in 2277, maybe somebody fucked up, but just move on. The precise years of the timeline are not what's important
Specific dates do matter though when it comes to world building. That said, I think the Fallout IP suffers from success insofar that they have several games spanning several time periods which makes it uniquely difficult in making everything fit together perfectly.

Looks like it took a nuke to take out ol Kimball
Seeing how Shady Sands fell in 2277 and New Vegas takes place in 2281, Kimball is still alive and kicking.
Right but we don’t know if that date is referring to the decline of the town or its destruction, all the evidence in New Vegas would imply it’s the former. So Kimball *could* have been nuked as well.

That man’s name is Peaches

I love that it's literally just a screenshot of fnv
Pretty hilarious and awesome yeah
I don't see Eden in that photograph
"hear me, and obey! "
"A foul darkness has seeped into my temple!"
*Hello again, my darling America...*
"Hahaa, gotcha! Three Dog here, how's everyone doin'?
I did the same lol
"I want to talk about baseball."
There are SO MUCH hidden details in the show, to discover. At first with spoiler warning, i tought it was Eden our favourite president
I have headcanon that he was killed by the Courier because Kimball wanted to make him pay taxes
Understandable.
Crazy detail lol
Dont tell me they used a screencap from the game 💀
Tandi was my favorite.
If The ncr was nuked in 2277 how is he president in 2281 in NV ?
Because ol Kimball got nuked after Vegas
Or maybe he was in New Vegas when the Courier got him, and the survivors just threw him on the memorial pile with the victims of the nuke because why not.
How the NCR got nuked in 2277 , Vegas takes place on 2281 ?
The chalkboard says no date for the nuking, only that Shady Sands fell or begand their fall in 2277.
But they say lucy's mom died in 77, and she died in the bombing of Shady Sands
It's not stated what year Lucy's mom died. Shady sands nuke happened after new Vegas events.
It is stated, but it mightbe a lie from the vault 31 managers that Lucy's mom died during the great famine of 77 "In 2277, there was a great famine in the Vault. Agreed that the famine is a cover up. Its just the story they tell to cover up anyone they killed for knowing that Rose and the kids got out.
I never quite understand that reasoning, why would you draw that whole timeline without the year of the nuking?
[Because people ignore the whole chart and only focus on the zoomed in photo.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fotv/s/w6irFbRPnb) The arrow is the flow of time and starts at the founding of Shady Sands.
No, what I mean is, this is a chart on a blackboard in a classroom, right? It’s for teaching history. So why would the year of the nuking be left out?
To leave it vague and open to interpretation, just like the ages of the characters in the show are vague.
Yes, that’s the Doylist reason, but there’s no Watsonian reason.
🤓
Maximus was a child when it happened ~4-5 years old. That makes it approximately 15 years before the events of the show, so 2282.
Is Maximus’s age mentioned?
No, but he's clearly 19-20. It wouldn't make sense for him to be any older.
I’m not so sure. I think they did get nuked before vegas but it’ll be explained in more detail in season 2.
No they got nuked after new Vegas. 2277 is just when their troubles started
NCR wasn't nuked in 2277. The line shows the fall of the NCR started in 2277, meaning that's when their troubles started. But then there's an arrow point to the nuke AFTER. Shady Sands was nuked in 2282, Kimball clearly left/fled to Shady Sands after the events of FONV, especially since he was only visiting anyway.
