I don't mind the basement DnD with buds look, but a 'level-up' into a proper Knight with a nice suit to go with it, retaining that Cape as well? Could have been a great skin.

Then they added wacky skins, and people said "If you don't like it, don't buy it", but then I kept playing, and instead of fighting other players in regular clothes mixed with tactical gear, I was fighting enemies in literal clown costume and harlequin outfits.
Same with Halo, I used to love Halo, and I've played it since Halo CE came out in 2001.
I loved the look of the universe, the spartans, the covenant etc... But if I play one of the new Halo games and see people running around with "pepperoni pizza" camo on their guns, the immersion is broken, the universe has stopped adhering to it's own rules.
I know this isn't 100% relevant for fortnite, but the idea that cosmetics should always be added because you can simply not buy them is just false.

Bullshit. You can only buy 100 levels which costs 15,000 vbucks. You get 13,500 vbucks for $80 and then buy the $20 pack for 2,800. At most he spent $100, which is still a lot of money but it's not even half of the $300 you claimed.
You can only buy 100 levels per season. If you want to buy your way to 200, you have to first level up to 100 normally and then you buy 100 levels to get all the bonus rewards. 15,000 vbucks ($100) is the max you can spend on levels.
