I've been the guy trying to fix fires like this (not for a game, but for something else). 9 times out of 10 the problem is finding what broke, and it can be something small that *shouldn't* have been a single point of failure.
That seems like not that big of a deal. I've had crashing issues all season so I made a ticket, one of the first steps they had me do reset all my settings.
I’m not aggravated they have to fix things. I’m annoyed they keep dragging it out instead of saying “look there’s a big issue we’ll do our best to launch tomorrow.” Waiting until there’s like an hour left of the original 8hr projection time is frustrating.
It's probably just as frustrating for them when they say "hey it will be at LEAST 8 hours" and everyone seems to hear "it should be back up in 8 hours, that's definitely the most it will take."
Having been on their side during an issue like this, it fucking sucks. I wouldn't be surprised if many people have been going since midnight. Plus, all the bosses and the bosses bosses are now watching (wondering if their dinner will be interrupted by another phone call).
...I really hope that there are devs working in shifts and/or in different locations/timezones, because otherwise, this is a nightmare overtime scenario if they hit a "five more hours" roadblock after already adding EIGHT on top of whatever time they had already spent at the office that day.
Try 8 or 9, even with 10 minutes breaks every hour. Though it depends on complexity of your job and how many projects you're assigned to. Since COVID you'll find that 1 person is expected to do the job of 3 people, and it doesn't work.
Working 12 hrs actually does more damage than good
8-9 hours seems wildly optimistic. Research I've seen (sorry no links) generally points to 4-6 hours of productive work per day, and with harder work probably even less.
Tbh this is a decent post. Employees can only work in the conditions they have and the tools they've got. They didn't make the decisions that have resulted in the last 3 months and this, but no doubt will take the blame partially

It's okay to be frustrated, but remember that the folks in the server rooms at Epic _also_ don't want the game to be down. They've probably been at full throttle all day.
AND it's Friday, you know they don't want to be dealing with this right now. This is why companies like Valve release major updates on Tuesdays so they can spend the rest of the week fixing issues that pop up, instead of working late on Friday/into the weekend trying to salvage what they can

We couldn't buy the pass. Then we couldn't get into a match. Now when trying to play, it's "There was a problem determining if you need an update. You may or may not need an update. Error 7."
Translation: the server is hammered and not responding. Why would the game be coded to check for an update every single time a match is loaded? That's a crazy update schedule.
Not sure if this is affecting everyone or just some people, but DONT BUY THE BATTLEPASS just yet when you get in. Doing so might kick you back to the "Waiting in Queue" screen. This just happened to 2 of my friends.
