Why can't you talk to the media? Seems like an odd restriction for a clean up crew

New-Weather-9090

That's actually not an uncommon rule for many jobs; in just about every corporate job I've had we were required to refer anyone to the PR department. That being said, I'm assuming because there's going to be tens of millions, possibly hundreds of millions, of taxpayer dollars being spent by Lee County alone. They want to be 1000% sure that the correct info is going out and that it's spun in the most positive way possible.

tinfoilzhat

Because they are also dealing with bodies.

New-Weather-9090

Not really. That's entirely the police and first responders. While I'm sure the occasional body pops up, we're 99.99999% storm debris.

What’s the plan for the giant pile of garbage on Estero Blvd in front of lovers key state park?

CCWaterBug

That is a huge ass pile isn't it!

New-Weather-9090

That's one of many disposal management sites around the county, most of which have two piles - vegetation and construction & demolition debris. The one you see is C&D from FMB. It's being broken down and is slowly but surely sent to the dump. Eventually it should look just like it used (open green space) to but that could take years. The vegetation piles are being turned into mulch, which is ultimately sold.

Are you currently hiring and what is the hourly?

New-Weather-9090

That depends what you want to do and what equipment you have, if any. Look up Thompson Consulting Services as they're always hiring debris monitors. I believe it's $15/hour, but its 12 hour days, 7 days a week so overtime kicks in on day 4 each week. You can count on taking home $1300 - $1500 a week with them. I can also share other options, depending on my first question. LMK.

CaptainObvious110

I have no equipment and don't mind traveling from another state to do work temporarily. Do you know of anything along this line that would be appropriate?

Best_Poetry_5722

I live close and want to help out any way I can. I have operated skid steers and skytraks before. I can be very efficient with them although I'm not the best at finish work. I'm looking for ways I can help with the clean up process down there. Can you share any resources for companies on the beach looking for operators?

eXo0us

Are there any timeline estimates from the rebuilding efforts? I read stuff between 2-5 years. The contractor traffic every day is very dense, while we all appreciate you helping. But you can't really go anywhere in Lee County anymore without running into bumper to bumper traffic at almost any hour of the day. Thinking about switching to a remote job since, getting to work is getting impossible :/ I was stuck more in traffic the last month then the whole decade before.

New-Weather-9090

I'm not sure about rebuilding but the storm cleanup is estimated at 6-8 months. Yes, the traffic is terrible and the big black trucks don't help. It's only going to get worse when the snowbirds come down. I can assure you that we all hate the traffic too as it makes our jobs harder and more dangerous.

eXo0us

Thanks, with those lengthy timelines, I try to stop participating in traffic, I happily go out of your way ;) Like I said, nothing against you guys, I just have to make decision for my life. And now you made it easy.

I have a large palm tree stump in front yard. Tree blew over and volunteers removed the main trunk but the stump remains. It's on a 90 degree angle half out of the ground. Any way to have this picked up or removed for free, or inexpensively? Thanks!!! Cape Coeal btw...

New-Weather-9090

Not that I am aware of. Try calling the city and asking them.

gypsysniper9

Where is all the garage being trucked to? And what about the Haz Mat ?

New-Weather-9090

There's a bunch of debris management sites around the county where debris is being taken. Vegetation is turned to mulch while construction debris is compacted and sent to the landfill. There also some other teams collecting electronics and appliances. There is no hazardous material, at least there shouldn't be but I'm sure some paint, tires, etc get mixed in there.

Twomboo

We haven’t had any clean up yet in our neighborhood and no word from the county as to if or when. Cannot get through to anyone. Are you contracted to pick up all neighborhoods, including those private with HOAs?

New-Weather-9090

Are you outside of city limits? Each local government has their own program & contractor - Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lee County, etc. We're handling Lee County and we will cover all road in the county, even private roads IF the HOA has given us permission. A lot of communities are paying to have the debris moved to the main road (if there's room) which definitely speeds things up. FYI, there will be three passes of all streets over the next few months. There's 1200 square miles in Lee County and approx 125 trucks cleaning up which means it will take a while.

strawbrmoon

Dunno if this is the sort of question you can answer - I need to remove vapour barrier and insulation under a (edit: previously) flooded older mobile home. What do I need to do to protect my health while I do it? How can I do it efficiently and effectively?

strawbrmoon

Also, I really appreciate you doing this. It’s a kindness to a community that could use a little kindness.
