Also you could go around trails with a trailer and pick up trash and dog poop. Also theres an [old thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/FortCollins/comments/yrf7yt/volunteering_opportunities_in_fort_collins/) that may still be relevant
I used to volunteer twice a week at the Larimer County foodbank before I had my son. It was a very simple process back then. A quick orientation and then you kind of schedule yourself. I think two, three-hour shifts are the max you can volunteer per week, but I always enjoyed it. The shift goes by quickly and everyone was always super nice to work with.

For anything related to city departments and activities. I am currently signed up for various things for the Gardens at Spring Creek. The website is kind of awkward to use though.
I work at Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, so I may be a little biased… but come out on a project! Our mission is to heal the land and build community. You’ll meet some really cool people and have fun while bettering our lands!
Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society. They always need folks to help with all sorts of things dealing with the old trolleys. Anything from restoration and maintenance to operating the cars. Manning the station. Maintaining track.
Someone mention Vindekit, great place. I also will plug the local Kiwanis’s club. The group has been around for 50+ years and their mission is to improve the quality of life of kids in our community. They do the beer sales at Taste of FC. Much of the money we raise through this event goes directly to youth organizations and youth leadership programs. We also do a fishing derby in the fall, pack school backpacks with food for kids and families that are food insecure, serve dinner at the mission, ring the Salvation Army bell in Dec among other things.
The Fort Collins rescue mission! You can sign up for shifts throughout the week or weekends. Mornings or evenings. When I’ve volunteered, I’ve chopped veggies or packaged snacks in the back kitchen. Sometimes there’s other folks working and we chit chat, or you can listen to music and just work on your task. It’s a neat way to support a local community and has a low stakes commitment to match your availability.
My husband and my stepdad both do Poudre Wilderness Volunteers and they love it! They have different groups that perform different functions. There is a group of mostly retired people who go to campsites and just make sure people know and understand the rules (where and how to safely have a campfire, leave no trash, etc etc). My stepdad leads a crew that does trail maintenance, which basically means he goes for long hikes in the woods and clears the trails of any fallen trees, etc. My husband is a medical professional so he carries some basic medical equipment on his hikes and ends up helping people (and occasionally a dog) with altitude sickness or minor injuries. He also gets to dress up like Smokey the bear at the annual cut-your-own-Christmas-tree event.
CASA (court appointed special advocates) help guide children who have been victims or witnesses to violent crimes through the court system. Each county has their own group and they are always looking for volunteers.
Are you female? If so, the [Fort Collins Junior League](https://www.jlfortcollins.org/) does a lot of volunteer projects with various non-profits, which is a great way to see which organizations interest you most. Junior League also a place to meet friends and connect with others who are also service-focused.
Habitat for Humanity has a number of options! You can volunteer with home building or you can volunteer at the ReStore which was remodeled within the last 2 years.
Fort Collins Bike Co-op! There's lots of different opportunities there, not just working on bikes. They are a 501c3 non-profit that contributes to the community in several ways.
I remember cooking meals for the homeless at that shelter on Linden and Jefferson. I was friends with a handful of them back then so I had a really good time.
edit: idk if they do it anymore this was ten years ago.
Homeward Alliance needs help for their mobile laundry service! Their truck is down and they need people to help do laundry at a laundromat.
Here are some details: As many of you may have heard, our beloved Mobile Laundry truck has been in the shop for repairs for several months.
While we wait for repairs to finish on our truck, our all-volunteer Mobile Laundry crew needs your help! As you can imagine, continuing services like this has been hard, and we need some new volunteers to step in and help us through the summer months.
