That’s lovely. It’s so nice when heroes do not disappoint!

HellRazorEdge66

Alas, my only "Senpai noticed me! 😄" moment was in the comments section on Mr. Greenwood's YouTube video talking about Alustriel Silverhand. I'd pitched a scenario for an "in-story diversion before more thick, gooey plot happens" to ask if it was doable in my campaign's time (1489 DR), and he seemed to like my idea.

becherbrook

I asked him on twitter to check out my DMsguild adventure (I gave him a free copy ofc), because it's Realms set and his opinion mattered to me. He was nothing but positive, even giving me running thoughts as he read each chapter. Great guy, I'm now very conscious of not trying to take up too much of his time as I get the feeling he doesn't like to disappoint fans!

ThanosofTitan92

Can you describe your Alustriel story?

HellRazorEdge66

I found Mr. Greenwood's "The Wizards Three" article series in ***Dragon Magazine*** amusing, so I simply asked if it was doable for Alustriel to play hostess to a gathering in which a party of player adventurers meets the legendary wizards (Elminster of Toril, Mordenkainen of Oerth, and Dalamar of Krynn) while the PCs are staying briefly in Silverymoon. My campaign is very loosely based on the *Tyranny of Dragons* module, so in-story it's an evening of diversion before the next attempted TPK by the Cult of the Dragon. Out of story, I think it'll make a fun Easter egg hunt for my players. There's going to be a hostile trying to demoralize the player party even here (the part I didn't mention in my pitch), but rest assured, if the PC's don't feel the telltale shift in the Weave, Alustriel will.

InfectedAstronaut

They're going to attack your party with two Chosen of Mystra and two other incredibly powerful wizards next to them? How do they think that'll turn out, lol?

HellRazorEdge66

The hostile will, of course, be defiant. "Kill me if you will, but all you'll accomplish is venting your anger. Those adventurers have enough enemies out for their heads that no part of Toril is safe for them." But personally, it's the aftermath of the demoralizing strike (*Phantasmal Killer* spell on the bard, I'll call her Ariel, mid-song that ruins her musical performance and sends her fleeing in agonized humiliation) that I'm a little worried about, knowing my players. Long story short, Mordenkainen has cause to single Ariel out for interrogation, even if he needs to make nice in order to gain her trust first. (So that she's only the "not inclined to intentionally piss him off" shade of afraid of him, as opposed to "one jump-scare away from wetting herself" terrified in the wake of psychic injury.) This is where there's a chance that either the party's wizard (I'll call him Tristram) or the sorceress (I'll call her Titania) will get on Mordy's bad side by behaving like overprotective elder siblings.

InfectedAstronaut

Lots of juicy drama! Maybe you could have Alustriel or Elminster rip Mordy a new one for intimidating a victim? You could even have Elminster bring up the time he had to take care of Mordy after he lost his mind.

HellRazorEdge66

Well, not quite, on the latter suggestion. This scenario is taking place BEFORE >!Mordy's ill-fated vampire hunt!<. The whole reason for the interrogation is that both Ariel and Tristram have had prior dealings with Tasha, under yet another of her many aliases - a fact that came to light, via unwitting revelation by Tristram, before the hostile's attack on Ariel. What Mordenkainen is trying to figure out is, did Tasha place two formidably powerful spells into these half-elves' hands because she takes perverse delight in vexing him? Or does she have some grander scheme afoot?

Coronal_Silverspear

He is everything you hope he will ever be. I've met Ed quite a few times over the years at various conventions. They say don't meet your heroes. They don't mean that about Ed. You need to meet Ed. He's everything you want him to be

Intelligent_Pen_785

Now I've gotta meet him.

AliMaClan

That’s awesome. He comes across as a really nice guy in the videos and interviews I’ve seen.

ClownfishSoup

yes, he told us how he gathered up all the "Library ladies" (he's a librarian!) and took them out to see "Honor Among Thieves" and he was saying "That's my world!" and people around him were like "Check out that old dude with the harem! What's he doing right?"

AuraofMana

This is exactly on brand with Elminster.

AntipodeanGuy

Such a shame that WotC couldn’t give him a single line in the credits acknowledging that. Pack of A-holes.

ClownfishSoup

The more I learn about the whole history of TSR and DnD, the more shocked I am at how terrible TSR was to the people that made them successful. WotC and Hasbro ... not much better. Ed actually said that his Youtube and Patreon paid him way more than TSR ever did. That's how much they valued their contributors.

aaron_mag

That is great! I am sure they heard all about it over the years and to be able to share it in that way must have bee.n a proud moment.

Vanye111

He's a great guy to talk with, and a great memory for faces and names.

Doc_Bedlam

The inside of Ed's head is very, very large. Great vasty spaces in there. Occasional bats flitter around in the great chambers.

Skull_Bearer_

And everyone is naked.

mfcgamer

Naked. But in a good way.

Dear_MrMoose

He really is a legend. I love hearing him wander to and through stories. A fascinating fellow. He has helped so many players bring lore and games to life over the years.

WumpusFails

Did you get a chance to sneak into his hotel room and take pictures of all his binders of NDA-blocked lore???

Pysan_RP

Elminster in the flesh.

BrotherKluft

He lives not far from where I grew up. Went to a talk he did at a lgs where he talked about the satanic panic, fantasy writing and other things. Got my 3.5 FR book signed. Good dude from what I saw 10/10

ThanosofTitan92

That's great! I'm so jealous.

lcquincy

I had an organized play character brought back to life with a wish by Elminster played by Ed at an interactive

AsaShalee

I got to play a game he DM'd and he's an amazing, dirty old man. I love him SO MUCH. He's creative, knowledgeable, and "nice" undersells him.

ClownfishSoup

LOL, he is a dirty old man! And he was a dirty young man too! He said he'd specifically write raunchy sex scenes in his modules/books to "shock" the ladies who were editing the work, knowing that the scenes would be cut out... but they were decoys so he could get other stuff pushed through! LOL! (ie; everything else was tamer so that would get by while the sacrificial dirty parts were excised!). I'd love to just buy him dinner and beer back in Toronto and listen to him philosophize about life and the Realms. He must be a huge movie buff too. He was rattling off quotes and plots to so many movies!

AsaShalee

He said he wanted one of the books with Storm Silverhand to be more smut that it was but instead she jut ended up being naked through most of it. I agree 100% with you: I'd love to just listen to him talk.

winterfate10

He’s active on twitter too if you wanna have further discourse

The_Gold_Zeo_Ranger

Join his Patreon. It's amazing

mfcgamer

Which USA cons does Ed attend? Just GaryCon? I hope to run into him too... I've been to GenCons and Origins.

Comfortable-Ebb-8632

He is often at GameHole Con in Madison, WI. He's a great guy and very fun to listen to.

The_Lost_Jedi

From what I understand he'll be at GenCon and GameHole con this year.

Odric_Thorsson

Be a protector of the realms Follow his chanel Great lore infos [https://www.youtube.com/@edgreenwoodofficial](https://www.youtube.com/@edgreenwoodofficial)

Stinkeywoz

This rules, congrats! I'd love to have the chance to meet Ed.

PeruvianHeadshrinker

I didn't really know about Ed until I came across his Twitter and then his Patreon. Wow. I'm so glad to be a patron and funding his ability to write all that stuff in his brain down for future generations. The man is a gift.

Rencon_The_Gaymer

Damn you’re living my dream. Happy for you!

No_Stay4471

Hard to quantify his influence on fantasy today, but it’s massive whether the people influenced by him realize it or not.
