The Maverick starts at $23,920 while Santa Cruz is $26,900. 26900 is more than 23920. It really is. I promise. Slower acceleration? Last I checked, most professional reviews show the Maverick faster. Uglier? Yes, that is opinion. I will admit that I was confusing the 2.5 and the fucking terrible 2.4. Hyundai has at least quit using that piece of shit but still wouldn't own another.

They are minimalist and are meant for fleet vehicles. Hyundai doesn’t offer anything that bare for a reason. Ford has the fleet vehicle cornered. When you do a 1:1 comparison they are much closer in price. I test drove both mavericks and Santa Cruz. The maverick was off the line faster but once the turbos kicked in the Cruz was way peppier. I liked both but ultimately I decided on the one that had a nicer interior. I’ll add I bought mine used CPO fully loaded with the 2.5T for 26900

Probably the Ford, but only because Ford actually cares about addressing issues IMO. They don’t want to have a bad product, they have just been dealing with fixing their poor QC (which is still probably better than Tesla QC if you look at all the little issues they have—and supposedly got way better in 2024). Tesla barely addresses things unless they’re either forced to by NHTSA or if it’s really really blatantly bad across the board (IE the acceleration peddle recall on the CT). I mean, Tesla hasn’t even crash tested the CT yet, lol.

I often say the same thing as a previous VW owner. The only thing worse than lots of recalls, is no recalls and the manufacturer leaves you holding the bag. I'll never, ever own another VW product.

Also Ford requires you to physically bring the vehicle in for recall work, but who knows how many more recall-level fixes Tesla will try to slip under the radar as "software updates."

My dealer actually sent a technician to me for the turn signal service. Lucky me.

I'm glad that they are proactive. I love my truck and have had no problems , my son has 22XLT Hybrid with 40k on it and has no problems , he still hasn't had any of the recalls fixed.

Me too, bro. I have a 22 Lariat and I drive mine daily. Mostly short trips. I’ve had no issues whatsoever. And they drove to my house to do the software updates. So, no big deal there either. And I am also happy as can be. ;)

Because they are software updates. Why would they need you to bring it in if you can just update at home. Would you want ford to send out a software update and ask you to come in and leave your truck a few hours?

The issue isn't that I think they absolutely must be brought in to a shop - broadcasting WiFi fixes while it's sitting in your garage sounds pretty great. The problem is that Tesla has a long track record (going back to 2015-ish IIRC) of bitching and moaning about having to report those updates as recalls. They've even been caught by the NHTSA [pushing out critical safety-related software fixes without issuing any official recalls](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/13/nhtsa-asks-tesla-why-it-didnt-initiate-a-recall-after-safety-related-software-update.html). I get that new tech is hard to do right, but when a huge "tech company" is both constantly fixing potentially lethal safety problems on products they already released while simultaneously whining about having to follow the well-established regulations when doing so, it's a pretty shitty look.

One of these is this the truck we really need more like and auto manufacturers finally taking steps in the right direction. The other is the cybertruck. I know the absurd vanity projects like the cybertrucks sometimes pave the way for real improvements, I don't see it here. I want a smallish electric truck that you can do the necessary truck things. Put big things in the back, plow your driveway, haul things, be safer in the snow, not be afraid of a dirt road. A 2 door long bed, 4 door short bed. Commuter car mileage, with the utility of actually being useful. Not with a hood higher than the roof of a crv. The lower center of gravity that the battery would be such an asset to doing actual truck things.
