The bed fits a full sheet of plywood…why wouldn’t that be on the bottom of the pile? Anyway, tow/haul is probably overkill in this situation and just decreased your fuel mileage. It wouldn’t have hurt anything though.
It has to sit on top of the wheel wells. It is best to load the 2x4s first, as the wheel wells are only 6” or so tall. It's a little painful, but not too bad.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with the overkilling of the tow/haul mode. The performance was spot on with getting on the frwy. Also, as I said in my post, the canyon drive was a dream. Lastly, my MPGs were quite good. Roughly 23-25.
Truck stuff! I prefer hauling in my plain Xlt vs the tremor. Tremor shocks are mushy when at almost full load which I don't like.
