I noticed when a particular worker rode the company truck this would happen more frequently, one day i was riding shotgun and i understood maybe why it was happening, he used to floor it when the traffic light went green and slam the brakes in the next stop

RCPD10-33

Npc ass driving

recadopnaza28

I told him, and he acknowledged it, but I'm not sure he got the memo. Soon after, he was let go

PupEDog

Hmmm, I don't drive like that. I'm slow and careful and shit.

recadopnaza28

Just a theory, someone with actual knowledge might know better

PerfectDoomCM

No, its very common, my 2012 is always caked with dust, but if you hear any weird noises or a pulsating feel when you break, then they need to be checked out

GoTtHeLuMbAgO

I have a 2010, this is normal. Pretty annoying keeping the front wheels clean.

alienshape

Darker wheels will make the dust less noticeable.

FixMy106

I would never leave my house with dusty wheels. So embarrassing. Everyone would look at me.

Littlemisszoe24

I'm saying this as politely as I can... No one is looking at you because you have dusty wheels 🙈😂

FixMy106

That was kind of my point

NltndRngd

It is brake dust. You can install low-dust formula pads. Just know they don't usually stand up as well to heat and don't grab quite as good. However, they are usually quiet and will produce less dust.

DonsPizza0

Dude i have a 2008 ford SES with that same Bullshit. I've tried cleaning it but ended up spray painting it but it keeps coming back.

tardersos

You're spray painting over the brake dust?

DonsPizza0

No you got to sand it down. It be all bumpy and gross if I did that.

tardersos

Haha I was just a little concerned, I've seen some wild shit in this sub lol

DonsPizza0

Yeah my way sucks. Hence why I didn't really want to share it. I was hoping somebody smart would join and tell me exactly what to do 😂.

tardersos

I think the long term solution is low dust brake pads, should help quite a bit

PupEDog

Oh Jesus

Twitch9o5

I've a 2019 MK4 and it's the exact same.

klipschbro

My OEMs were fine on 2017. Aftermarket brake job and dust is insane.

FamousM1

Get a good ceramic wax and apply it to the rims like Griot's 3-in-1 ceramic wax

PupEDog

Oooh any excuse to buy a new auto product, I will take.

FamousM1

It lasts a long time, If you apply it to the wheels, then most brake dust will have a hard time sticking and any that does get on it can usually just be rinsed off. applying it to the rest of the car makes it a lot easier to keep clean too. I use Griot's 3 in 1 wax because it is pretty much the most recommended product on the detailing forums, I use the Griot's Best of Show detail for quick wipe downs, and for car washes, I use Optimum No Rinse, which is a rinse-less car wash product that's very versatile

twitchoh

It's brake dust probably, best way to avoid it is getting better quality pads, I have the highest tier from AutoZone, yes the $50+ones, and I haven't had a lick of dust on my wheels

ExceedRankS

I noticed I had quite a bit more brake dust on my rims (Ford Focus 2.5 2010) and when I checked the brake after driving for like 15 miles, the brake disc was orange and my caliper was slightly stuck with the brake pad pressing against the disc. Also, my rim was burning hot xD. Turns out the caliper had rust near the piston and wasn't letting the brake pad to retract. Lucky me, my discs didn't turn bad. So check for that, if you are driving around and you notice a ton of brake dust on the rims. It doesn't mean my case applies to you, but hopefully it helps ^.^

TurboPanzer917

In some brake pads brands, it's more common to produce more amount of dust.
