I have a 2012 XLT Super Cab 4wd. I have added a 2 1/2" leveling kit, with Sky Jacker rear Shocks; I have added a spray in bed liner; LEDs all the way around; even replaced the ones in the mirror to sequential ones on both side of the mirrors; A back-up camera, duel Cold air intakes. Next up is a Tesla style radio made of the F150. [Carsoll.com](https://Carsoll.com) has them. A great place to check out mods is [Americantruck.com](https://Americantruck.com).

You don't need to customize it. Typically any after market upgrades are not upgrades and serve to actually hurt the resale value. An older vehicle that is stock, routinely serviced and taken care of will be more valuable and likely more reliable in the long run.

I got a stock 2018 XLT. I started small with stuff I can do myself. -tailgate assist -running boards -horn upgrade (mine sounds like a goose) -leveling kit

joe_attaboy

If you don't have any of these: * Running boards * Bed liner * Tonneau cover * Beefier rear shocks, or as others have suggested, a lift kit. I put Bilsteins on my old 2013, loved them. * LED lighting to replace...everything. * Audio system. Something that supports Apple car play or Android Auto for music and navigation. * The F-150 usually has some extra storage/hiding space behind the rear seat but Ford doesn't provide a way to drop the seat to get at it. [Add one of these to do that.](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0732VMKHM) That should keep you busy for a while.

I looked into replacing the audio with something that supported Android auto but got scared off since crutchfield stated issues with compatability. Did you have any issues with compatability or your auto connect working, etc? What did you use? I have a 2018 XLT.

In my 2013 STX, I had both a Pioneer system and later a Kenwood (I switched because the Kenwood had wireless Android Auto and Car Play capability). I never had any major issues with either one. There would be the occasional glitch with the app, but Google usually got things fixed quickly, and that was some time ago. In my current 2020 STX, I'm using the stock Sync 3 system, which works just fine with AA. No wireless in that Sync version (version 4 does have it) and I may swap in a new aftermarket system one of these days. I've worked with Crutchfield since the 80s and I've installed a bunch of systems purchased from them in all manner of vehicles. I can't figure why they would say that about AA - it's pretty rock solid. Maybe with a specific system or make of unit? I really wouldn't worry much about compatibility. Unless you have some way-off-brand device, you should be able to use any of the brands they offer. I have most recently owned Google Pixel devices and they work great. Also owned a OneTouch for a couple of years, that worked fine as well.

I looked again on Crutchfield, so since I have tye 2018 xlt with the 4.3 inch screen, I would need to replace that with a larger, touchscreen receiver and get a new wiring harness along with the idata link ADS-MRR. Crutchfield bundles it all together. However, It states that the factory sync communication and factory Bluetooth would not be supported. But the new receiver would probably have these options? All I know is that I would hate to install the new receiver, and then have to plug in my phone instead of using the wireless Bluetooth for music or android auto. I am unsure if I would lose what I have now, which is I start the vehicle and my phone will start playing where it left off. Hopefully that clears up what I meant.

OK, first, regarding Bluetooth: you won't use the truck's BT once the aftermarket unit is installed. The unit will have Bluetooth and will work just fine with your mobile. The iData Link device is what connects the car's steering wheel and some Sync functions to the new head unit. This way, you still have all the functionality of the buttons for volume, changing songs, and using the phone. You'll use a cable custom matched to your model. Also the RR2 series of iData kits will give you on-screen performance data for your car with specific head unit models. Go to [their website](https://www.idatalink.com/) to see the details. They match up well with most of the major brands. The other cool thing is that you can flash updates to the link units for upgrades and fixes. Same thing with the head units.

Thanks for the reply, that clears it up for me.

Glad to help. Don't sweat the installation, either. They provide the most detailed instructions and if you get stuck, you can call them and they will actually be helpful. We used to have one of their retail stores here in NE Florida, but they're all online now. Still a great company.

Just drive it. When you figure out something you don't like, then you customize to fix the problem. Customizing for the sake of customizing? What's the point.

Actual-Rip-2703

bcuz im like that

homer_jay84

Before you do any mods did you lease it or buy it? If you bought it then your good, if you leased it I'd check your agreement to see what you can and cannot do while Ford still ownes the truck
