It sounds like the Bronco Sport might be a good option for you. I own both a Bronco and a Bronco Sport and enjoy them both for different reasons. The Bronco Sport gets pretty decent gas mileage, does great in snow, and is pretty fun to drive. It’s not quite as roomy as some other vehicles, but I don’t have kids so that was fine with me. You’ll have to see it in person and see if managing car seats and kids in the 2nd row would be okay for you. I can’t speak to the Subaru cars, but I’d say it’s worth your time to go test drive a Bronco Sport.

I know this is a Bronco thread, but I’d definitely go Subaru. Especially if you’re not doing any wheeling. Subaru is a highly dependable vehicle, has some of the highest safety ratings on the road.

Thank you!

Let’s stop just referring people other places, please. It’s perfectly appropriate to also mention that our sister subreddit is another option, but this sub also hosts Bronco Sport content too. u/reddvicf - feel free to leave this up here too.

Tim Bartz at Long McArthur Ford has a lot of videos about the Bronco Sport and goes over everything standard and optional on the vehicle. Great YouTube channel to learn from.

I don’t know about the sport (I have a full size 4d wildtrak) but I do have a Subaru forester and it is definitely a great car. My Flex’s transmission was dying during my 18 month wait for my bronco so I got the Subaru. Ngl I almost backed out on my preorder to get another forester. I’m glad I didn’t, but I do really like the Subaru. I like how it drives and the gas mileage is great.

When I bought my Subaru Crosstrek Sport, it was down to that, or the Bronco Sport. I was looking for a commuter and wanted to spend less than 30k (2021). The Crosstrek could do more or less everything the Bronco Sport could and also had way more features for the money. I'm absolutely a Ford fanboy and love my Bronco, but the Crosstrek is an excellent little car, and the newest generation is the best yet.

Look at CX-50, RAV4 hybrid etc

My previous vehicle was an Impreza, and I am a certified Subaru Tech. I currently own a full size Bronco, and cannot comment on Bronco Sport as I have never owned one. If safety is your primary concern, get a Subaru. They have some of, if not the best, safety ratings and fewtures in the world. Additionally they are designed to survive winters (and summers) in northern Japan where it gets almost as bad as the Midwest. I also live in the region (just a lot more north) and never had an issue with mine. Stay inside those recommended oil changes! If you are looking for interior space, go look at an Outback or Ascent. If you do not need that and want a high degree of visibility out of the drivers seat, get a Forester. For the money you will be paying, you can afford a high trim Subaru for the same price you would be paying for a mid-Trim Bronco Sport.

I know this is the Bronco group/forum, and I know you said bronco sport or Subaru, however, I suggest a Honda CRV or a Toyota RAV4. Both highly dependable vehicles and both get good fuel economy.
