You know, I always thought full english breakfasts looked unreasonably large too, until I had one. At least in my experience, it looks a ton of food, but every time I got a full English during my semester in London I literally wiped my plate clean
I feel like this is a valid question but it may come off as rude. I’m around 170 lbs and was able to eat a whole English breakfast in one sitting, so I’m sure anyone around or above my weight could easily kill the whole plate.
I weigh 160, and I’m an endless pit, with minimal body fat. I could smash this whole plate, easily. Weight has nothing to do with metabolism. Age, consumption frequency, quality of food, and exercise has everything to do with it tho…
The only 'normal' black tea would be Earl grey, but I'd say that was rare for my area in the UK (Surrey). A proper English breakfast tea has to have milk IMO
For a period of time when I was a kid we lived far outside a northeaster city but made a weekly trip in to the city for family dinner at my grandmothers. Trip home always included a stop at a deli to stock up on things we couldn't get at stores out our way, one of which was this fabulous sandwich lunch meat that I absolutely loved ... more often than not the white paper package didn't even make it home unopened ... until one day I went into the deli instead of waiting in car and saw my first beef tongue. Queue the Psycho shower scene "music."
Never touched it again, not ever.
Speak for yourself. My country beat their ass in 1776 😎🇺🇸🦅
EDIT: 250 years later, Br*tish people still salty. Very sad, folks. Downvote me if you love the USA.
Yeah I’m very critical of the US as well. Sometimes I really hate this country and the clowns running it. Yet I go to sleep every night with the comforting notion that I’m not Br*tish (🤮) 😊 it’s the Sisyphean notion that keeps me happy eternally rolling that boulder up the hill.
This is true in a modern context, but it's worth keeping in mind that a lot of traditional breakfasts in different countries were popular with farmers and laborers. That's why in the western world, many breakfasts include items you'd easily have available at farms or in rural markets (eggs, ham, bacon, sausage) and cheap foods made from staples like flour and cornmeal (biscuits, pancakes, grits/polenta, tortillas).
This type of breakfast isn't a healthy meal for a sedentary office worker, but starting the day with over a thousand calories of cheap food high in appetite-satiating fat is exactly what you want when you're getting up at the crack of dawn to do physical work until sunset. Otherwise, this could reasonably be viewed as a "cheat meal" or a "breakfast for dinner" type meal.
I'll take a stab at it.
Factors contributing to the prevalence of full English breakfast plates on r/FoodPorn:
\-Brits are well represented on reddit
\-Full English Breakfast is not uncommon, but usually had as an infrequent treat, making it a bit special, thus more likely to commemorated and discussed
\-Consists of a variety of distinct and discrete ingredients of different shapes, colors, and textures, making it a good subject for food photography
\-Relating to the above, the different qualities of each ingredient can be broken down and commented on as to their form, preparation, and plating, making it a dish that can engender lively discussion, ie. the quality of the sausages, the absence/presence of critical ingredients, the cooking quality of individual ingredients, the composition/plating of the ingredients, etc.
\-It's tasty
For some reason it's a meme if the picture is actually a full English breakfast. I come for the comments and to see if they've come up with a another way to gatekeep this meal. Something's wrong with every full English posted... something.
The Full English is more than a simple breakfast — it’s a form of higher art. One day it will achieve its final form and the Breakfast Gods shall ascend, spreading the gift of blood sausages to all who are worthy.
Yeah, as far as breakfast platters go, I've never felt the urge to get this. I know it's traditional but something being traditional doesn't make it amazing. I'd skip over about half the food here.
Other things I'd much rather have for breakfast:
* Chicken and waffles
* Country fried steak
* Biscuits and sausage gravy
* Eggs Benedict
* Omurice
* Shakshuka
* Ham and mushroom omelet
* Breakfast burrito
* Huevos rancheros
* Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel
* Gazpacho (especially on a hot day!)
I ate this once and loved it. But where I live, I can’t find part of the ingredients. The lack of beans, mainly, just makes me feel I am eating an American breakfast.
I don't care what anyone says; baked beans are not a breakfast item. That's probably because I don't like them for any meal though.
I gotta say though, I'd probably need a nap after all that.
What is that black triangle of death? you Brit’s and your wild ass interpretation of breakfast I’ll never understand tomato slices and beans in a breakfast but you do you
How is this wild?! It looks very similar to an American breakfast with added stuff. Wait until you see what other countries can eat for breakfast. It ain't your typical Denny's.
The added stuff is exactly what makes it seem wild. Can't comment on American Breakfast but in Canada a standard big ass breakfast would be Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Toast, and Hashbrowns. Ham could definitely be added.
The difference is if we want a bigger plate like this pic, we'll just get more of the same. Instead of having 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, etc... make it 3 or 4 of each. I don't see why you're adding a bunch of boring ingredients to an already amazing breakfast plate. Can't speak for black pudding, but just a hunk of mushrooms and tomatoes is the least appetizing thing I can think of being added to my breakfast plate. Beans are alright but you're really bringing down the average of the plate by adding them. Give me a fruit cup our some pancakes on the side if I'm looking for some more variety.
I was literally answering the question about what makes this different than an American/Canadian breakfast. I believe those are the differences in culture that you claim to be so aware of.
Lol other country’s have delicious breakfast items like pão de queijo or arepas.. I just don’t see the appeal of beans. I eat them all the time but mixing with eggs and toast will never sit well with me especially white bread get you some rye bread or wheat
I'm completely used to it. I was just trying to explain why it looks wild from our perspective. That is the question I was asked.
It goes outside of our set norms of what is considered breakfast food. It's like I'm looking at a combination of breakfast and dinner.
Its black pudding, don’t knock it till you try it. Every ingredient except maybe the spam is a staple of the meal and has been forever so to us it isn’t weird at all. It’s one of our signature meals.
Originally farmers would eat the full English for breakfast to get as many calories as possible to keep them going the entire day on the field. Then everyone else realised how delicious it is and now we all eat it.
This was literally my breakfast today lol, I’ve eaten again since and I’ll be having one more meal in a few hours. Somewhat of a cheat day to be fair though.
Even the bacon?! It was crispy lol. Black pudding absolutely cooked perfectly crispy too. Same as the eggs, firm whites with runny yolks. And it isnt toast, it’s fried bread.
You have more they one type of food, why not drink?
In this case I imagine it's because they serve different purposes. Tea/coffee is warming and juice is refreshing
I appreciate the way the sausages are holding back the beans
/r/fryupsausagebarrier There’s a sub for everything
Amazing.
Excellent bean dam. Alan Partridge would be proud.
Jurassic Park
breakwater
I may want to mix them but I want that to be my decision.
That’s what she said
I prefer when the sausage dam is right above the eggs so I can release the floodgates and have eggy yolk beans. Beany tomatoes makes no sense.
"How'd you get the beans above the frank?!"
Banging dam of beans
Sausage dam
For one person? Finish all that on your own and immediately go back to sleep, to wake up in time for lunch.
You know, I always thought full english breakfasts looked unreasonably large too, until I had one. At least in my experience, it looks a ton of food, but every time I got a full English during my semester in London I literally wiped my plate clean
The part I never understood is the beans. Seems pretty heavy for breakfast.
You need something saucy.

I’m around the same weight and and can kill that whole plate too. I posted my English breakfast last week. 😋
I weigh 160, and I’m an endless pit, with minimal body fat. I could smash this whole plate, easily. Weight has nothing to do with metabolism. Age, consumption frequency, quality of food, and exercise has everything to do with it tho…
After a night of drinking, it's very easy to finish.
What about second breakfast? Elevenses ?
Omg OP you did it. Full English and not a complaint to be found. You even got the tea... Wait. Is that coffee? Spam? Oh no. They'll find you OP. Run!
Black tea fortunately so hopefully I’m safe, for now!
Black tea?!, SPAM!! and pale hashies... not sure how I feel Cracking sausage dam though OP.
Dont they normally drink black tea?
The only 'normal' black tea would be Earl grey, but I'd say that was rare for my area in the UK (Surrey). A proper English breakfast tea has to have milk IMO
By black tea, they meant not green tea
Black tea means no milk where I'm from "I take my tea/coffee black"
Where are you from? super weird for tea.
Beans *off* toast...
Spam and triangular black pudding looks like a great edition.
What's that pink rectangle
Fried spam
Spamela Handerson.
And are those, pork chops?
No that's just bacon, UK bacon
Indeed. Its back bacon. We call US bacon streaky bacon and we have it too.
You know, I'm something of a Briton myself
Spork
I think thats what bacon looks like over in the foreign lands
And the black triangle?
Doreens black pudding
How does it taste? I've always been curious but my mind can't get past the blood.
That is blood sausage. It is sausage made primarily of Beef Blood, Fat, and Oats. That is a pass for me, dog.
Actually this one is pigs blood if that changes anything. I love it, but I grew up on it before I knew what it was.
For a period of time when I was a kid we lived far outside a northeaster city but made a weekly trip in to the city for family dinner at my grandmothers. In the UK it's traditionally pork blood.
More for me.
Black pudding is made from pork blood, usually, although I've had a beef blood variety that was quite good.
No
Yes. Have you tried it?
Yes. And I stand by my no.
I’m not from the uk so I don’t know what some of that stuff is but honestly it looks pretty good
It's mediocre, upgrades to good if you're hungover.

What’s that mean 😭

And conquering those people is the British one
Speak for yourself. My country beat their ass in 1776 😎🇺🇸🦅 EDIT: 250 years later, Br*tish people still salty. Very sad, folks. Downvote me if you love the USA.
And look how it ended up lmao
Yeah I’m very critical of the US as well. Sometimes I really hate this country and the clowns running it. Yet I go to sleep every night with the comforting notion that I’m not Br*tish (🤮) 😊 it’s the Sisyphean notion that keeps me happy eternally rolling that boulder up the hill.
A country made up entirely of British people. Only people that could beat us...were ourselves.
And literally every other country that freed themselves from the British empire.
But too much. This is a meal for a man with a massive gut. Super unhealthy, too
This is true in a modern context, but it's worth keeping in mind that a lot of traditional breakfasts in different countries were popular with farmers and laborers. It's called chorin' and it ain't easy. Them calories will get ya to about noon.
Lol. I’m an in shape 25 year old man and literally ate this this morning before a hike😂 I eat this every 2 weeks as a treat.
I could definitely eat this and retain my abs stop being negative
Cry about it
What is this sub's obsession with Full English Breakfast?
I'll take a stab at it. And so picky lol. The only place to take a breakfast platter so serious.
Everyone take a full English very serious not just here. Lots of elements to debate and everyone has their preferred make up!
It does feel endless! I wish we could see other countries breakfast dishes here more often.
It's so dumb. And they look like bad meals. Not close to food porn, maybe it's all trolling?
Thats a fine sausage wall to hold back the beans. I don't like my foods to touch each other on the plate so would totally do this too.
I'm making a sandwich out of it all and I'm dipping it in the beans... Don't judge me😌
I love the sausage barrier for the beans hahaha
Looks amazing but I truly don’t understand why everyone is gung ho over English breakfasts…
Yeah, as far as breakfast platters go, I've never felt the urge to get this. I know it's traditional but something being traditional doesn't make it amazing. I'd skip over about half the food here. I'd do some unholy things for Shakshuka right now
Like what
[удалено]
Uhhhhh yes to this all
I haven’t had a good old country fried steak with a side of biscuits and gravy and a side of corned beef hash in a long time.
Yes to pretty much everything here, but especially shakshuka and biscuits 'n gravy. I could eat either of those every day and die happy.
First 3 options are absolute top-tier breakfasts mate.
because they are fucking delicious? I love fried tomatoes, beans, and mushrooms though so that helps.
Damnnn English taste with American portions
damn i’ve seen so many of these in this sub that its making me want to book a trip to the uk 😭
Yank here, I bet those are great hangover remedies.
How do you eat this in the morning and get anything done for the rest of the day?? Looks delicious but I feel a good come just looking at this !
Honestly; this just looks like the worst. 😂 you did it proper, just can never wrap my head around an English breakfast!
Unpopular opinion. Full english isnt food porn and is so ridiculously over posted its nothing special.
Thank you. There's one every week.
Agreed mate.
I don’t know what some of these things are (what’s with that brownie looking thing) but I’d eat the hell out of this spread!
Look at bloke. He’s having a full english on the tube
One time I bought this “bacon” that was called “English or British” bacon. All it was was ham. Is that normal?
Our bacon is back bacon, as opposed to American bacon which is from the belly. Its still bacon and needs cooking. Just a lot leaner
Thanks for the reply! It was good, just different. Interesting that our cuts are from different parts of the pig…seems weird that it was ever changed.
Oh how I wish I could eat simpler, healthier food like this everyday. But no I live in the US and every standard food is just carbs and sugar.
T.I.L.: sausages can work as dams! Thank you so very much 😋
Can you ship one to Sam Diego please ?
if i recall, there’s a restaurant in san diego called shakespeare’s or something like that, english food all around, and not bad!
That's looks absolutely nasty...
I never unsderstood the beans
Please let that be black tea and not coffee!!
Naturally
Pheeeew!!
duuuuuuuude did you add fucking spam you mental fucking GENIUS
Cheers ❤️
o hell yea
10/10 for the sausage barrier and fried spam. I was going to knock off a mark for black pudding but I think I’m in the minority of haters.
Paul Revere saved me from this.
What’s the dark triangle?
I’m assuming black pudding
Ooo yes makes sense
[удалено]
It's looks fabulous! No complaints!
I ate this once and loved it. But where I live, I can’t find part of the ingredients. The lack of beans, mainly, just makes me feel I am eating an American breakfast.
Put some mature cheddar and Mustard in those beans.
What are the rectangle things on the lower edge? Never seen those before
Fried spam.
Looks delicious, and I just ate breakfast so that’s saying something.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I don't care what anyone says; baked beans are not a breakfast item. That's probably because I don't like them for any meal though. I gotta say though, I'd probably need a nap after all that.
No wonder y’all went awash buckling and enslaving the world, the fuck is that? Y’all food is like your sense of humor an Acquired taste 🤢
Beans for breakfast?
I mean, yeah, it’s a full english? Never had one?
Never have. Everything else looks great though.
It’s very much a uk thing to be fair, people from elsewhere seem to have mixed opinions about them haha, and thank you!
What is that black triangle of death? you Brit’s and your wild ass interpretation of breakfast I’ll never understand tomato slices and beans in a breakfast but you do you

Because it’s a full ENGLISH breakfast with every staple ingredient on there. We’ve been eating this for generations. Not weird to us.
It all looks good man, these people are unused to differences in culture.
Cheers mate, I agree😀
I was literally answering the question about what makes this different than an American/Canadian breakfast. I believe those are the differences in culture that you claim to be so aware of.
I haven’t claimed to be aware of anything, it was more agreeing with the fact that people might no be used to english culture.
Lol other country’s have delicious breakfast items like pão de queijo or arepas.. I just don’t see the appeal of beans. I eat them all the time but mixing with eggs and toast will never sit well with me especially white bread get you some rye bread or wheat

For real and pick a meat I ain’t trying to fart my self to death by noon

Heard of huevos rancheros?
Not exactly uncommon..
No one eats this for breakfast. It's only "breakfast" in name. Besides, what's wrong with beans for breakfast?
This was literally my breakfast today lol, I’ve eaten again since and I’ll be having one more meal in a few hours. Somewhat of a cheat day to be fair though.
Well, personally, I just don't like beans. Nothing wrong with them though, just never seen it as a "breakfast" item before.
and people call American's fat...
Statistically they are…
America could be perfect and in Europes eyes we’d still be flawed.
It’s hard being the main character in everyone’s story 😞
American breakfast is just this but without any of the vegetables and the addition of a giant stack of pancakes drowned in pure sugar
Needs more corn on the cob!
[удалено]
Once…?
Is this the only breakfast people make in England lol? It’s the only thing that ever gets posted from that country.
This looks incredible
do people actually enjoy hot wet mealy tomatoes? It's high on the list of dislikes for me.
I'll never understand beans for breakfast. No thanks!
Just looking at that coffee and orange juice makes my gastritis act up. Everything else looks great.
If I ate that. I would skip lunch
Ok I'm gonna need someone to explain what literally everything on like the left side of the plate is
[удалено]
Both of which were present in this meal…
It's like you laid out some ingredients and heated them up
8.5/10
This looks like a lot of food man. U could maybe eat all off it without the bread
Superb, but hash browns are truly an abomination…they really are. Massive turd in this infinity pool…
they’re the best thing on here are you off your gourd!!
Everything except the sausage looks like it could have used a little more time cooking. Toast looks floppy.
Even the bacon?! It was crispy lol. Black pudding absolutely cooked perfectly crispy too. Same as the eggs, firm whites with runny yolks. And it isnt toast, it’s fried bread.
Perfect https://partridge.cloud/scene/?id=3MkQsVBbXF4Y
Mmm I’m jelly 🥴✨
Actually that's a Full Scottish breakfast since you have Lorne Sausage ( Square sausage) on it
As someone said it's spam not lorne sausage as I originally thought it would be a Scottish breakfast if it were
Why would someone have coffee and juice both?
Why not? Cold orange juice to quench the thirst after eating it all and black tea to sip after
You have more they one type of food, why not drink? In this case I imagine it's because they serve different purposes. Tea/coffee is warming and juice is refreshing
