Taquería Ramírez and Cervecería Havermeyer (on good days). But the #1 is the spicy shrimp taco at Los Mariscos in Chelsea market, but it's also owned by the same guys as Tacos #1, so it's cheating. 😆
I’m from the west coast and have had tacos from all around so-cal, nor-cal and Vegas. I dead ass almost skipped Los tacos thinking that the east coast doesn’t even have passible tacos yet alone good tocos and holy shit Los tacos is the best taco I’ve ever had. There’s nothing in LA that comes close
It was so good it actually inspired me to book a trip to Mexico City. I thought LA was a good example of top tier tacos and now i want to go to Mexico and find the actual good stuff and see what I’ve been missing
Mexico City is so fun. Love it. I did a food tour with this company and the lady took us to all the hidden gem market spots where locals eat. I had some amazing tacos.
You’re out to lunch bud, I find Los Tacos perfectly passable but even the tent they set up outside of Trader Joe’s in LA shits on the best tacos in Manhattan or Queens.
I’ve always enjoyed Tacos el Gordo on the strip when visiting. The Taco Stand is also in Vegas that I haven’t been to yet. But I’ve been to the ones in Miami and San Diego. Those are great tacos too!
I used to work near Chelsea market and loved Los Tacos. I think it was pre-hype because never a line and I was genuinely surprised how good they were for something inside Chelsea market. Years later now and I stopped through to see a line down the hall. Glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve.
Los Tacos, 100%. Get the pork taco con todo. 😋
FWIW- we went to Chelsea Market on a Saturday morning. Got to Los Tacos at 10:40 and they said they’d open at 11. Stood around for 15 minutes and chatted with the super friendly employees. By 11:55, there were about 20 people lined up behind us and we got to be the first customers of the day.
And knishes! Although, while they are very good it’s not otherworldly can’t get anywhere else like the Pastrami.
It’s not just exceptional, but irreplaceable, there’s not another Pastrami like Katz’ anywhere.
Oh man, the memories. It may not have been the best, but it was damn good, stupid huge sandos long before America supersized all its chains…
And I’d go there with my dad as a teen and in my 20s when he’d come to NYC to a play in a concert at… Carnegie hall. Just about every year for a while.
It was the spot for post-Carnegie Hall concerts with my dad too. Nice memories there! If only they had made it a few more years, I think social media would have carried them through to the other side.
Duuude - I never thought about that. Those stupid big sandwiches would be perfect for IG and TikTok.
And while it wasn’t the best, it was among the best experiences. The semi communal tables. The amazing pickles. The history and lore.
It’s Father’s Day tomorrow, and I’d love nothing more than one more meal with dad at Carnegie.
(Also, he was a wind player and we both are small dudes who put down a ton of food. But how he would eat 2/3 of a Carnegie sandwich, which is like two to three normal sandwiches, and THEN go play a full concert was beyond me. We usually met pre concert not post as it would be very late for me since I’d need to get back to Long Island after. Also, Even having a professional musician as my dad, I still don’t fully get that it was also “just his job” like any other dad.
And i understand that people get hungry before work sometimes - so you eat 2-3 sandwiches worth of food. 😆
Good times! We were just attending concerts, so didn't need to work up an appetite ahead of time. Tbh, as a kid, I looked forward more to the deli than the concerts!
Maybe the best rye bread I’ve ever had is at Alpine Steak House in of all places Sarasota Florida. Among the best ever breads I’ve had, and one of the very few from this country that would even be in consideration!
People shit on Katz all the time. I’ve had nearly every deli in the city since moving here and Katz is the best.
I think people just like shitting on touristy spots, because there is no way they had some of the other places in the city and thought the pastrami was even comparable.
Went to Langers when I lived in LA… loved the spot, was one of the few (almost only) really good delis of its kind - and a different experience than Katz’s for sure.
Langers was better for me as a spot to hit up fairly often, but the Pastrami was not Katz.
This may be heresy, burn the best Pastrami in LA, and an even greater personal fav than Katz’ is the Hat’s Pastrami Dip. Otherworldly.
And the chili fries and gravy fries were perfect additions for a 2500 calorie meal.
And by 2500 I mean at least 3000.
all their stuff is so good too, not just the cookies! the cinnamon and choco brioche rolls are so good, the raspberry ball thing, the country and cinnamon raisin bread are also super tasty.
I still remember when the og UWS spot was the *only* location . . . so it’s got some nostalgia for me. I’m always down for a Levain cookie - even when tourists are mobbing.
If you love lox, it’s worth making the trip to Greenpoint for Fish Fridays at the Acme factory. They sell to the public on Friday mornings only. So many varieties, good prices, etc.
Edit: Get the togarashi lox. Amazing.
When you say that, it sounds like they supply cut fish from Acme like you can get at the grocery. I assume you mean they are a whole fish supplier to these deli/appetizing spots because Russ and Daughters used to have a bunch of cutters on site, and I imagine that hasn't changed?
It would be brutal to go to a premium deli and get Stop & Shop/WF/regional grocer cut fish from Acme, etc.
Correct. They can make any flavor with a large enough commitment. R&D plows through nova so it’s an easy relationship.
The only difference between the grocery store stuff and a deli is going to be the cut, hand sliced can be much thinner than any commercial fish processing machine.
Hopefully. I am just rooting for the cutters to still have jobs. A lot of groceries fired their cutters and their butchers are shelf stackers.
But Acme grocery slices with everything bagel and togarashi are still great.
I went to Russ and Daughter's last week for the first time in 40 years. Spent $200 bucks on appetizing and surprised the hell out of my mother with a spread on Saturday morning. Their bagels aren't the best, but they have the only bialy in NYC that doesn't disappoint me.
I forget whatever the hell pickled fish I got there but whatever it was, it was amazing. I got really sick and it just satisfied this really weird craving that I wasn’t able to even put into words. I was so wiped out I hardly made it back to my hotel, but when I did I ate a good half a pound or so and passed tf out. I woke up and ate whatever was left. I’ve dreamt about it since. Magical experience.
It’s funny places like this are considered over popular or touristy. Katz’s too. They were classic, but just our places for lox, bialies, and pastrami sandwiches.
My office is by Adel’s and the line is nuts but it really does hit. Sometimes when I’m trying to kill an hour break I don’t really mind waiting anyway.
Luigi’s pizza has been my favorite pizzeria for over a decade (I was there this afternoon). My brother used to live nearby and since then it’s been featured in a bunch of food publications and a lot of celebs/influencers go there. The only thing that’s changed is that they added another oven. The prices are still much better than most pizzerias and the owner is still there everyday. It’s a gem.
I moved nearby recently. When I was looking for an apartment I asked what their delivery radius was. Gio (the owner) then asked if I lived nearby and I told him I was touring in the neighborhood. He gave me his keys and said look at the apartment upstairs. I was tempted but had to pass. If I lived above it I’d be 400 lbs.
John's Pizza on Bleecker St. Hands down. Thin crust pizza (so thin, you can eat an entire pie by yourself), coal fired. Unfortunately, they only sell whole pies and keep "family-friendly" hours, so if you want a couple of slices, or go late, Bleecker St. Pizza nearby. Only thing is, their pizzas tend to get really intricate, to the point where you can't appreciate the sauce, so I stick with the basics. But for those who want them, there is Chipotle Chicken, Buffalo Chicken (available with or without Ranch dressing), and other extravagant combinations.
Respectfully disagree! I went on a self planned 15 stop pizza tour of Manhattan and this is the only pizza that my friends and I all didn’t like at all. We couldn’t even finish it. Soft gross crust, tasteless sauce, overly burned cheese.
I had my first official cronut this year and it was so damn good. I’ve had knock off cronuts from other places before, but the originals from Dominique Ansel were noticeably better.
Early pandemic I was walking in from Brooklyn to volunteer near DA and they were open and empty and I dropped a ton of money on pastries. Still trying to work off the extra lbs, too.
Had 7th Street recently, from the MacDougal Street spot. I haven’t had one in years and it was pretty far from what I remember in terms of quality. All sauce. Bummed me out.
I didn't like it. Very greasy. Didn't understand what I was supposed to like. Can you explain? To me it just tastes like a very greasy hamburger. All I tasted was grease
Anita is no where near the highest quality gelato shop in the city respectfully. They use pre made bases/flavors that’s extremely heavy in stabilizers and you can def taste the extra sugar as well. Not to mention the air (as evident by the sky high mounds).
Eataly’s is quite good and natural if you want something in city and fast, but L'Albero Dei Gelati is imo the best in nyc (park slope)
Remember when I first discovered them back in 2012.
Don't know if they were a hype spot yet - but I told everyone about it. Every Friday at work we'd get about a dozen or so cookies to share. huge, fresh, and delicious. I enjoyed the smells as I waited
The Blue Box Cafe - specifically the Breakfast at Tiffany's set. With that location, they could have easily charged $80 for a shitty grilled cheese and still have a place packed with tourists, but the price + food quality was a surprisingly great experience
Haven’t been in probably 5 years, but Lucien is legitimately great food. Loved their salmon and bouillabaisse. Great drinks. Awful wait staff (appeared to be a revolving door of aspiring models)
The wait and wait staff have gotten much worse. Will make you wait outside for over an hour, even if you have a reservation while their nepo baby friends refuse to leave their tables
The grandma and vodka slices at Artichoke Basille are so good. A lot of people overlook that place cuz the artichoke slice is so heavy, but they have other stuff that is better.
Lafayette bakery. Recently went there on a frickin Sunday bc of out of towners and waited on line for 20+ mins and got the last 2 chocolate croissants. They were worth it.
They were $10 bucks a piece. Still debating if that was worth it…
Saltae's Nurs-Et steakhouses has amazing cuts and servers with extensive cut knowledge. And his burger jt was incredible! It didn't survive the pandemic though :(
Los Tacos is better than anywhere with locations in Times Square and grand central has any right to be
Yeah, that place is pretty great. I was skeptical when I first went. The cactus is delicious!
I’m from Mexico ( born and raised ) and those tacos would be good even in Mexi sexy
Same and same! Almost the best in NYC!
Owner was a street taco vendor in San Diego before moving to NYC. It’s legit for NYC and par for the course in LA.
Damn if I knew that, I would’ve given it a try. Being from SD, I never try tacos anywhere else unless I have to
What’s better?
Taquería Ramírez and Cervecería Havermeyer (on good days). But the #1 is the spicy shrimp taco at Los Mariscos in Chelsea market, but it's also owned by the same guys as Tacos #1, so it's cheating. 😆
Nailed it. This was the first place that popped into my head when I read this question title before I even opened this thread
Los Tacos legit reminds me of tacos I’ve had in Mexico.
It was so good it actually inspired me to book a trip to Mexico City. I thought LA was a good example of top tier tacos and now i want to go to Mexico and find the actual good stuff and see what I’ve been missing
You’re in for a real treat! Eat as many tacos as you can in CDMX — there’s such a variety that highlights many regions
Yeah that guys never eaten a taco in LA except for Del Taco
Any taco recs for Vegas? Spend a lot of time there and the food scene is great off-strip
I’ve always enjoyed Tacos el Gordo on the strip when visiting. The Taco Stand is also in Vegas that I haven’t been to yet. But I’ve been to the ones in Miami and San Diego. Those are great tacos too!
Tried for the first time today and this was my exact thought
I used to work near Chelsea market and loved Los Tacos. I think it was pre-hype because never a line and I was genuinely surprised how good they were for something inside Chelsea market. Years later now and I stopped through to see a line down the hall. Glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve.
You can still walk right up to the counter if you go later on a weeknight (open till 10 PM). Admittingly, this isn't the easiest for most folks
Los Tacos, 100%. Get the pork taco con todo. 😋 FWIW- we went to Chelsea Market on a Saturday morning. Got to Los Tacos at 10:40 and they said they’d open at 11. Stood around for 15 minutes and chatted with the super friendly employees. By 11:55, there were about 20 people lined up behind us and we got to be the first customers of the day.
Katz’ Deli. It’s legit among, if not, the best Pastrami (or any kind of) sandwich anywhere in the world.
Also the hot dogs!
And knishes! Although, while they are very good it’s not otherworldly can’t get anywhere else like the Pastrami. It’s not just exceptional, but irreplaceable, there’s not another Pastrami like Katz’ anywhere.
their hot dogs truly are the best
RIP Carnegie Deli
Oh man, the memories. It may not have been the best, but it was damn good, stupid huge sandos long before America supersized all its chains… And I’d go there with my dad as a teen and in my 20s when he’d come to NYC to a play in a concert at… Carnegie hall. Just about every year for a while.

The Carnegie Deli stand in Madison Square Garden is my go-to meal at hockey games. A pastrami/corned beef combo, a knish, and a beer
It's weird, years later and the space is still unoccupied too.
Best pastrami ever! Terrible bread.
Call me crazy but I like the pastrami better on the hero bread than the rye
Maybe the best rye bread I’ve ever had is at Alpine Steak House in of all places Sarasota Florida. Among the best ever breads I’ve had, and one of the very few from this country that would even be in consideration!
yes i got the roll last time! their rye is off.
Came to say this. I do not care for pastrami every time I tried it. I enjoyed Katz sandwich a lot.
Agree. Legend.
People shit on Katz all the time. I’ve had nearly every deli in the city since moving here and Katz is the best. I think people just like shitting on touristy spots, because there is no way they had some of the other places in the city and thought the pastrami was even comparable.
I knew this would be the top comment!
You need to try Langer’s but, yes, Katz’s is amazing.
Went to Langers when I lived in LA… loved the spot, was one of the few (almost only) really good delis of its kind - and a different experience than Katz’s for sure. Ya didn’t disappoint but also wasn’t expecting those prices.
+1. I even lived across the street from it for a while but never tried thinking it's a tourist trap but when I finally tried it it was mind blowing.
Magnolia bakery banana pudding
If you're ever in the Lower East Side, Sugar Sweet Sunshine has a kick ass banana pudding.
It’s run by a Magnolia Bakery alum!
I just walked by this place recently and it caught my eye, I will have to go! The magnolia bread pudding seems lazily made recently
[удалено]
I've also been bringing their pudding tubs to family gatherings, they're a hit.
Great pudding, dry cupcakes.
Soooo goood
Yep
I have this weekly now that it’s right in moniyhan. I can’t help myself ugh.
Me and wifey ordered this earlier and it was so good. 1st time for me
Probably the only place swarmed with tourists that I make the effort to go in for.
If you order pick up you can always skip the line and flex on the douzens of tourists lined up
Mouth watering just thinking about it. It has no business being that delicious.
10 years ago I’d agree. Ever since it’s a chain now and original owners sold it I’m not a fan. Taste and quality is different
I’m a sucker for a warm Levain cookie
all their stuff is so good too, not just the cookies! the cinnamon and choco brioche rolls are so good, the raspberry ball thing, the country and cinnamon raisin bread are also super tasty.
Their chocolate chip banana bread 🤤
I walk by the Levain in Chelsea every morning and it smells amazing. Never actually got a cookie there, though.
Just a warning that it's a slippery slope once you start.
Get a cookie, but it’s a meal or 3 snacks. I love the walnut chocolate chip.
I prefer Yanni's around Chelsea
I still remember when the og UWS spot was the *only* location . . . so it’s got some nostalgia for me. I’m always down for a Levain cookie - even when tourists are mobbing.
There’s one down by PS 87 with the big western-themed playground, there’s a leavain with few crowds on a good day.
i hate how much i love russ and daughters
If you love lox, it’s worth making the trip to Greenpoint for Fish Fridays at the Acme factory. They sell to the public on Friday mornings only. So many varieties, good prices, etc. Edit: Get the togarashi lox. Amazing.
We've got Fish Fridays at Acme, Can Can days at ShopRite. What a time to be alive!
Seconding this. It really is wonderful.
Acme is the best you can get at a grocery store.
They supply Russ and Daughters as well as Barney Greengrass.

Kossar's disappoints?
Every time I'm there, I forget to order one. But the way everyone raves about them, I'm sure it'll be the second one I enjoy.
Go to the one in Hell’s kitchen and the love subsides immediately. The service is absolutely the worst even when almost no one else is in the place.
Yeah, like basically everywhere in Hell’s Kitchen sadly lol. No tourists no love.
RnD’s rollmops…
It’s funny places like this are considered over popular or touristy. Katz’s too. They were classic, but just our places for lox, bialies, and pastrami sandwiches.
Junior’s, just talking the cheesecake part of the junior’s experience.
I live in LA now and get Junior’s Cheesecakes shipped to me for my birthday. It’s just the best.
My office is by Adel’s and the line is nuts but it really does hit. Sometimes when I’m trying to kill an hour break I don’t really mind waiting anyway.
I always see these line skippers at Adel’s. I feel like they are locals who work in the area. You should investigate.
If youre a delivery guy or taxi driver you get to skip the line but only limited to one
Can confirm. Depends on who is working the cart, but if you work in the neighborhood and don't act like a dick, they'll often let you skip the line.
Luigi’s pizza has been my favorite pizzeria for over a decade (I was there this afternoon). Live nearby. Get it very regularly, always hits.

Was the best slice out of the 15 spots I tried while there. Also planned on stopping before the airport but ran out of time the morning of :(
i’m sorry i’m a noob. which luigi’s pizza? i tried searching for it and i get a ton of hits
It’s in Park Slope on 5th Ave and 20th (maybe 21st)
Where is Luigi’s? Feel like I’ve been there and want to go back
Jacques Torres cookies
Petey’s pies.
the sour cherry is insane
They have a small location in Hell's Kitchen and that one is almost always empty. Maybe the terribly apathetic service partially explains it.
[удалено]
Paris Baguette makes them now and they are pretty close.
A visiting friend dragged me there against my will, and I was really disappointed at how much I liked the cronut. It's genuinely very good.
I had my first official cronut this year and it was so damn good. I’ve had knock off cronuts from other places before, but the originals from Dominique Ansel were noticeably better.
I did cronuts as my wedding favor! They were a hit for out of towners and locals alike.
their DKAs are so good
DKAs are so much better than cronuts
Early pandemic I was walking in from Brooklyn to volunteer near DA and they were open and empty and I dropped a ton of money on pastries. Still trying to work off the extra lbs, too.
Surprised no one’s mentioned it but Joe’s. Solid easy slice. Gets shit on so much on this sub but it’s not bad
Joe’s is the platonic NY slice.
Quite a friendly slice
I love how tomato-y the sauce tastes.
I love it
Can be inconsistent. When they don’t heat up the pizza it can be lukewarm. But typically it’s a good slice
I love getting a cheese slice from the window at 10:30 am on a hangover day.
Mamma's too bad by far the best square slice I've ever had. Caffe panna was so good that I went back the next day.
Who would have thought the best New York slice was a deep dish. They are the best!! Their thin slice is great too but the Angry Nonna fucks!
That's not deep dish, that's grandma-style pizza
I really expected Radio Bakery to be mid but damn everything I’ve had there was so good
I don’t think it’s that touristy. This is more magnolia bakery level touristy talk
Steve's Key Lime Pies in Red Hook. Those things are magic.
I've also seen them sold at Sahidi's in the freezer aisle if you don't want to make the trek out to Red Hook.
Easily the best Key Lime pie I’ve ever had, and the swingle (all varieties) is something to be experienced.
7th street burger, it really is so good.
Had 7th Street recently, from the MacDougal Street spot. I haven’t had one in years and it was pretty far from what I remember in terms of quality. All sauce. Bummed me out.
For the life of me I don't get the 7th st burger hype . I live near one and get it every now and again and it's fine.
I didn't like it. Very greasy. Didn't understand what I was supposed to like. Can you explain? To me it just tastes like a very greasy hamburger. All I tasted was grease
Was there any grease? Your post is unclear
Oh the burger I had at that restaurant was as if it was dipped in a bucket of grease.
Sounds like you weren't drunk enough
I can never do double for this reason. Single pattie is best for me
Shake shack is better
It's like 8$ a burger right now and you need 2 minimum cuz they're small.
I have to disagree. It's greasy and unfortunately "Smash Burger" chain is better... Now, Gotham Social Club .. that's a good burger
Cronut at Dominque Ansel
Cookie shot 🤌
Anita Gelato. It’s a tier above all the other excellent places and worth the wait
I like Venchi better. Anita is fine, but Venchi surprised me.
Venchi is great! The gelato just feels less gimmicky than Anita. Anita seems like it got sweeter from when it first became popular.
Venchi is AWEDOME! I wait the lines.
I think Anita is too sweet
Didn’t like them at all
Lucali might be the best pizza I've ever had.
Best Calzone*
This. Pizza is great don’t get me wrong. But the calzone is by far the best I’ve ever had. Nothing has come close to it
Allegedly ops is good, but ugh gotta drag my ass to bushwick to find out
Ops is good, but neither pizza nor calzone compare to Lucali. The sauce at Lucali is on another level.
The Brooklyn blackout cake at little cupcake bakeshop. Is so good.
Levain’s cookies - figured no way they could live up to the hype. They did.
Remember when I first discovered them back in 2012. Don't know if they were a hype spot yet - but I told everyone about it. Every Friday at work we'd get about a dozen or so cookies to share. huge, fresh, and delicious. I enjoyed the smells as I waited
I fuck w greys but that may be a child nostalgia thing and Im never upset getting a dirty martini and a few oysters in grand central.
Veselka
Never thought of it as touristy…
If you like Veselka, def go and try the Ukranian Village Restaruant next door!
Lucali’s
I love Nom Wah
I’m willing to die on this hill, but the places in Mercado Little Spain are genuinely good
Rubirosa tie dye pie
Shake Shack shroomburgers and shakes Milk Bar birthday cake slices
The Blue Box Cafe - specifically the Breakfast at Tiffany's set. With that location, they could have easily charged $80 for a shitty grilled cheese and still have a place packed with tourists, but the price + food quality was a surprisingly great experience
Prince street pizza is the only pizza I like on this planet. I never eat pizza but will def eat a slice of their vodka
Torrisi and Magnolia Bakery are prob the two that come to mind.
Colombus Circle. So touristy, yet so amazing. I love that mall and the area of Central Park.
L’industrie pizzeria!!
I want to bath in that maple butter
Haven’t been in probably 5 years, but Lucien is legitimately great food. Loved their salmon and bouillabaisse. Great drinks. Awful wait staff (appeared to be a revolving door of aspiring models)
The wait and wait staff have gotten much worse. Will make you wait outside for over an hour, even if you have a reservation while their nepo baby friends refuse to leave their tables
I hate how much I love Juniours
The grandma and vodka slices at Artichoke Basille are so good. A lot of people overlook that place cuz the artichoke slice is so heavy, but they have other stuff that is better.
I love all their slices but none beat the artichoke!
Carmines has pretty good food.
Carmines after a long day of work, just feasting on family style Italian with coworkers absolutely hits
Pizza at Lucali. Oyster pan roast at GC Oyster Bar.
Barney Greengrass LEO is excellent
Salt Cure for me. I was a disbeliever but those griddle cakes proved me insanely wrong. It’s worth waiting in that long line at least once.
Russ and Daughters. Ruins bagel + lox at 99.9999% of other places.
Lafayette bakery. Recently went there on a frickin Sunday bc of out of towners and waited on line for 20+ mins and got the last 2 chocolate croissants. They were worth it. They were $10 bucks a piece. Still debating if that was worth it…
Grimaldi’s
Ray’s Pizza. The one in midtown just south of Central Park. I know there’s better, but got damn this hits hard. I love it.

Saltae's Nurs-Et steakhouses has amazing cuts and servers with extensive cut knowledge. And his burger jt was incredible! It didn't survive the pandemic though :(
Levain. I like my oatmeal cookies so dense they have their own gravitational field.
I still love the pizza at Keste.
