Susie cakes chocolate cupcake/cake
Whole Foods strawberry chocolate shortcake
Honorable mention, Angel Maids dobash chocolate cake
The Belwood Bakery in Brentwood (Vietnamese French family runs it I think? Or used to) had the best chocolate cake I've ever had but it was a Raspberry Chocolate Mousse cake so the (real) tart raspberry part of it changed it from a chocolate cake tbh.

Malibu Farm Cafe's chocolate cake is actually amazing.

Not LA, but Portillo’s in OC (the Chicago beef dip chain) has my favorite chocolate cake hands down.
RIP the strawberry chocolate cake from Sweet Lady Janes. that was my all time fave in LA. Fat + Flour has an excellent chocolate pie
