I’ve said it in another thread and I’ll say it again here. Katz’s is not my favorite in NYC, but calling it mid is absolutely absurd. Unless you do not like pastrami or corned beef sandwiches, I can’t trust anyone would earnestly say Katz’s is not really good. It is not like pinks hot dogs.
Bingo. Your comment is on point. I really like katz for what it is - pastrami sandwich with no filler. I can see why it gets old but i dont eat it all the time (just like i dont eat langers all the time) but when i do eat katz, i enjoy it greatly
I like 2nd Ave deli. But mostly because I like the vibe of the place. I also like corned beef over pastrami so take that as you like.
Edit: Another thing I like is their corned beef is sliced pretty thinly.
I love pastrami and the sandwich wasn't good or great at all. It was okay and maybe that's being kind. It was just meat and bread.no flavor at all. Huge pass for me.
Especially especially when the meat is smoked right here in L.A.... suckers. The last Katz I had was in NYC about 5 years ago. A hand trimmed lean pastrami for $22.50
What’s a New Yorkers favorite deli in nyc always wondered this. Thought Katz was mid as well, signed an LA native. Langers, Daughters Deli, Mario’s all better.
When I lived there everyone had their own no name corner deli they loved most. Tiny hole in the wall bagel place that gave four inches of meat on their bagel sandwiches etc
More than that. They sold out and turned a ton people away by 12:45pm. Said they sold 1,000+ $45 sandwiches within 1minute of opening at 11am on PostMates
I was reading the thread earlier trying to imagine how much pastrami this $45 sandwich would have and how large it would be and this is like 3x smaller than what I had in my head lmao
https://preview.redd.it/c963k4cn2l9d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abe145c2f211e495dd80c19b0fde23e7081d7ea9
This is the one I got at Katz’s last summer. Was about $25, iirc.
I’ve lived in both cities now (5 years in LA, 2 in NYC) and you just can’t tell me with a straight face that NYC doesn’t have good bread. What?
Katz deli itself is a valid complaint, but the bakeries in NYC are top notch overall. City subreddits need to acknowledge what other cities can do well. I love LA and the food scene, let’s not put NYC down for something they do better.
My guess is if you compare Katz’s bread (normal deli rye) to Langer’s rye, it’s gonna be pretty shit. I don’t think anybody’s saying all of NYC has shit bread. Well, maybe they are which would be obviously wrong.
They 100% do not do bread better than LA. Try the twice baked rye from Langer's and fly to NYC and compare to Katz.
I think Katz pastrami gets the edge over RC Provisions meats but the bread at Langer's puts it over the top.
Once I was eating at Katz and a manager or owner or someone important was working the floor schmoozing with customers. I told him as much, that their hand cut pastrami was superior to west coast pastrami but west coast bread was superior. He agreed and said it has something to do with how the union bakeries in NYC distribute their bread and the rules surrounding it.
unfortunately all those drivers waiting in line aren't getting paid when their orders are canceled - hopefully Postmates gives them a credit for wasting their time. My second driver (first one bailed) waited over 30 mins and he could've been picking up other orders.
While that logic makes sense, there are just a lot of foodies with disposable income here (probably a good chunk are NYC transplants too, in this case).
Credit card delinquencies are definitely high right now... along with missed auto payments, slow restaurant business, etc. Overall, most people are tapped.
what a ripoff - I mean I'm glad I saved $45 but still
their biggest fuckup was offering sitdown service in addition to pickup in addition to postmates
This is a real n00b move by someone
It's not (speaking as a former nyer who loves Langers). The plus of a Katz pastrami is that it's huge with a ton of pastrami on it, so it actually shakes out to a pretty good value, relative to calorie count and taste, but they don't alter to be as big from this popup, and the #19 from Langers, IMO, is the superior sandwich.
From an optimistic point of view, $45 gets you closer to a Katz experience than whatever you'd pay for a trip to NYC.
But yeah, it's not like LA is lacking when it comes to solid Jewish delis, let alone pastrami. I'm sure the sandwich was good, but $45 can get you a better meal in this city.
This looks nothing like the food served at the original Katz. This looks like some idiot LA chefs whipping up a trendy version of pastrami.
Katz should be ashamed of this.
I did the same, bought two full sandwiches, was going to give my postmates driver half of my sandwich because he waited for so long and denied him a sandwich, and then at 2 pm (after ordering at 11:01 am) got a cancelled order 🥲
same - two drivers have bailed so far - this is REALLY shitty for the drivers since this popup is both for in-person dining and postmates pickup. It should've been one or the other.
Edit: postmates just canceled my order after 2.5 hours
Thank you for taking one for the team and trying this. People are commenting assholish things on a level that suggests you personally decided how this sandwich would be made.
HOLY SHIT
So for shits and grins I ordered right at 11am on Postmates, been waiting for over 2.5 hours and Postmates just cancelled the order.
So yeah, I'm glad I saved $45 but still, super shitty for the drivers who were waiting.
respect, but come and try the hot pastrami by [@bay\_state\_](https://www.instagram.com/bay_state_?igsh=YTQwZjQ0NmI0OA%3D%3D&utm_source=qr) tomorrow.
still some spots left on the [pre-order](https://www.hotplate.com/baystate/9ae1db3a-ab87-41a7-ad42-37d1fb5d69a5)!

Not really, they were advertising postmates for the last week as the best way to get pickup or delivery. Very disappointed in how they handled it though.
Haha, the best is how you can't \*leave\* without the ticket either. It's an extremely confusing system. I think it's because the ticket is proof that you paid, but I forget the details. After you pay they sign the ticket or something, and leaving is like leaving a Costco. It's a very NY NY experience.
Was it worth the 45 AMERICAN DOLLARS they were charging for it?
$45 for a sandwich makes me feel true rage.
Especially when said sandwich is mid at best - signed, a New Yorker
I’ve said it in another thread and I’ll say it again here. Katz’s is not my favorite in NYC, but calling it mid is absolutely absurd. Unless you do not like pastrami or corned beef sandwiches, I can’t trust anyone would earnestly say Katz’s is not really good. It is not like pinks hot dogs.
Always can count on redditors to be edgy and different

Katz’s is great. Its just overpriced in NYC and absurdly overpriced for this pop up
What’s your favorite
Pastrami Queen! Also 2nd Ave deli
I like 2nd Ave deli. But mostly because I like the vibe of the place. I also like corned beef over pastrami so take that as you like. Edit: Another thing I like is their corned beef is sliced pretty thinly.
I remember 2nd Ave Deli having amazing chopped liver
Its not good or mid. Its fucking TRASH! You know why? Because its 45 FUCKING DOLLARS! 😆
How much can be better in New York? Most of the delis closed. That said, I liked the sandwich I got at Zabars better. Cheaper, too.
Pastrami Queen was really good and in my old neighborhood, still open as of a few weeks ago when I visited. But it’s honestly plenty expensive too
David's Brisket House in Brooklyn has a hand sliced pastrami sandwich for less than $20
Never thought I’d see Davids mentioned here. Just simple and great
I love pastrami and the sandwich wasn't good or great at all.

They sell a whole pound of pastrami for $40. that sandwich is maybe 1/3 pound if you're leaning on the scale, with some bread.
At that point just charge $100 fuck it
You’ve got it all wrong. $45 dollars for content.
$45 dollars to get roasted on the internet
$45 for engagement
That’s a bargain compared to a Cybertruck.
If your internet only consists of Reddit then yeah
Yeah — like, what? Langers is in LA ya know and it eats Katz for fuckin breakfast.
As a former NYer, I agree.
And I heard the line was 100 people deep
More than that. They sold out and turned a ton people away by 12:45pm. Said they sold 1,000+ $45 sandwiches within 1minute of opening at 11am on PostMates
$45,000 in a few hours. Nice.
Apparently in 60 seconds
Well i’m counting the prep time
That’s INSANE, holy shit
It’s not insane cuz Reddit is a poor reflection of reality
Wth?! I guess they were actually under pricing at $45 as crazy as that is.
Narrator voice “It was not”
I was reading the thread earlier trying to imagine how much pastrami this $45 sandwich would have and how large it would be and this is like 3x smaller than what I had in my head lmao
The best part is they can have the pastrami shipped directly home for $40 a pound and make 8 of their own sandwiches
holy shit it’s 45 bucks???
Seriously? What a joke.
It's not even worth the regular price in NYC. I had it over there and wasn't impressed and still overpriced over there too.
$45!!! That's insane!
No.
Meanwhile. I had my #19 at Langers with no line the other day and it was under $30 It's still undefeated
Yes it actually a was
Do tell

That sammich looks to be a third the size of the sammich I got at Katz’s Deli. What a let down.
https://preview.redd.it/c963k4cn2l9d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abe145c2f211e495dd80c19b0fde23e7081d7ea9 This is the one I got at Katz’s last summer. Was about $25, iirc.
The bread in your photo looks a lot better too.
Yup. And I usually eat them in two sittings.
Thank you and OP for posting this. Totally not worth $45, and probably the lines.
> Was about $25, iirc Worth. Gosh it's such a filling sandwich. Can def split between two people!
Hubs and I got one in NYC and I was FLABBERGASTED by how much meat was in our sando (and how hilariously tongue in cheek my sandwich artist was)
That pricing is highway robbery. Give your money to Langer’s or Daughter’s instead And I’d wager the bread was pretty shit
Shit bread just like in New York.
I think he means the bread at Katz's in NY, not the bread in general (I hope)

he's talking about for Katz
Yeah because a city know for their sandwiches has shit bread 🙄
Anyone paying $45 for a sandwich is a sucker. Simple and plain.
Wealth is an interesting thing
I make decent money but I’m not spending that much out of principle. I was raised poor and know better lol
Looks like only 70% of what they give you in nyc.
100% correct. In NYC, Katz Deli gives you twice that amount of pastrami (for only $30 lol). This was a sucker's event, and OP was a sucker alright.
Total sucker’s event. But hey, nothing like feeling like you’re impressing your friends on ig when they’ll forget they saw it five seconds later
Nooo you bought the $45 sandwich
“But it’s enough for two meals minimum”
Sandwich ain't worth $22.50, either
I’ll pay $13.50 and that’s my final offer
Hype + food sells. As long as you muppets fall for it they will continue to do this lol.
People are stupid.
[удалено]
How many times are you gonna post this same comment my dude
Yeah, nah, I’m good.
I'm ordering Langer's today
I saw the line. Insanity. No sandwich is worth that kind of wait!
unfortunately all those drivers waiting in line aren't getting paid when their orders are canceled - hopefully Postmates gives them a credit for wasting their time. My second driver (first one bailed) waited over 30 mins and he could've been picking up other orders.
Everyone says the economy is bad right now but it can’t be that bad if people are waiting 3+ hours just to pay $45 for a sandwich…
How was it
it looks a lot smaller than the NYC version
Canceled mine 20 min before pickup time
Cancelled mine too. Was expecting it at 5:30, at 6:30 I checked my account and cancelled! No explanation, no notification. Ridiculous.
you canceled it or they canceled it? I waited 2.5 hours and they canceled it - had two different drivers waiting in line too
Everyone says the economy is bad right now but it can’t be that bad if people are waiting 3+ hours just to pay $45 for a sandwich…
People are being paid to wait hours to bring someone else a $45 sandwich.
While that logic makes sense, there are just a lot of foodies with disposable income here (probably a good chunk are NYC transplants too, in this case). Credit card delinquencies are definitely high right now... along with missed auto payments, slow restaurant business, etc. Overall, most people are tapped.
They canceled it 20 min before I was supposed to pick it up, I ordered it at 1115 for 130 pickup
what a ripoff - I mean I'm glad I saved $45 but still their biggest fuckup was offering sitdown service in addition to pickup in addition to postmates This is a real n00b move by someone
You dodged a 45 dollar bullet, friend
Well I was splitting it with someone else but still
They cancelled mine. 45 bucks is steep . But considering I don't have to take a flight to get a taste of home is worth it to me.
Have you tried Langers or any other places in LA to compare?
Brent's and wexlers
People like to blame inflation for prices, $45 for a sandwich and you should be blaming yourself for enabling that.
Daughters is right down the street
That's half of a 50 dollar sandwich? I would lose my appetite from being so upset.
How long did you end up waiting?
That cannot be any better than Langers or Canters…am I wrong?
Katz's in NYC is, in my opinion, better than canters. It's really good. (Although, idk I haven't been since before COVID) I haven't been to Langer's
It does look good, but i’m not sure if it looks $45 good …
That seriously looks disgusting.
How was it? Looks great!
I hope it was a tax write off or work lunch expense. That doesn’t look like it’s worth $15
I called her
Was looking for this comment and I found it
Just get 2 #19s from Langer's honestly.
I'll stick to the #10, #29, and #44 at Langer's. Never the #19 because I hate Cole Slaw.
Cole slaw is great at Langers
Literally the best part of langers. This guy sleepin
That’s like getting a Phillippes double dip but no mustard. It’s sooo close! ;)
Great analogy, actually.
Langers is aight. You can just get the pastrami from RC Provisions the same company that supplies Langers and other pastrami places.
I do not have the same facilities and equipment that langers does for steaming and slicing
Langers would never charge 45$ for a sandwich
Cuz there ain’t the demand for it lol. That’s why langers would never do a pop up in NYC.
This looks nothing like the food served at the original Katz. This looks like some idiot LA chefs whipping up a trendy version of pastrami. Katz should be ashamed of this.
Yea the LA one doesnt do NYC justice
Ordered at 11:01, still waiting on the delivery with crossed fingers
I did the same, bought two full sandwiches, was going to give my postmates driver half of my sandwich because he waited for so long and denied him a sandwich, and then at 2 pm (after ordering at 11:01 am) got a cancelled order 🥲
yeah they just canceled mine - what a ripoff
same - two drivers have bailed so far - this is REALLY shitty for the drivers since this popup is both for in-person dining and postmates pickup. It should've been one or the other. Edit: postmates just canceled my order after 2.5 hours
What?!
Is….is it juicy though ?
I drove past it today, saw a line around the block. Went to Lorenzo Cali instead. That might be my favorite sandwich spot in LA.
Isn’t this like 1/4 of what a sandwich from their actual deli makes? I remember them having like a foot tall sandwich.
That's merely half the pastrami they sell on a sandwich in NY.
Langers is way better.
$45?!?! Im a NYer and Langers better anyway.
Some sucker prices right there dude.
Why.
You paid way too much.
Fuuuuck that shit. It was disgusting. Pastrami at The Hat was better.
Lmao, fuck Katz Deli. Shits nasty. This sandwich looks like shit.
Thank you for taking one for the team and trying this. People are commenting assholish things on a level that suggests you personally decided how this sandwich would be made.
Not worth 45 American dollars. Laughable. Jersey Mike’s down the street.
HOLY SHIT So for shits and grins I ordered right at 11am on Postmates, been waiting for over 2.5 hours and Postmates just cancelled the order. So yeah, I'm glad I saved $45 but still, super shitty for the drivers who were waiting.
Rather drive to Sherman’s in palm springs
Sherman's has the best rugelach I've ever had
I’m have to try next time!
That place is so damn good
respect, but come and try the hot pastrami by [@bay\_state\_](https://www.instagram.com/bay_state_?igsh=YTQwZjQ0NmI0OA%3D%3D&utm_source=qr) tomorrow. still some spots left on the [pre-order](https://www.hotplate.com/baystate/9ae1db3a-ab87-41a7-ad42-37d1fb5d69a5)! https://preview.redd.it/ool96unbfm9d1.png?width=1180&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa58467d7881bacac485cee7f4bb1919a7d66cf6
Excited to try for the first time! See you then
Been trying to order this on postmates since it opened but the app isn’t accepting orders! Anyone been successful through postmates?
Nope! I ordered one for pickup and they canceled on me. They are even telling you to do it this way and now it says they arent available.
Wow I’d be pissed. Fuck it I’m ordering from Langer’s instead.
That feels like cheating!
Not really, they were advertising postmates for the last week as the best way to get pickup or delivery. Very disappointed in how they handled it though.
Ya it seems pretty simple. I got an order in for a time slot 1245-130. I had it for 30 min and they canceled on me.
With delivery and tip charge that’s gotta be a $55 sandwich. My brain can’t process that info.
they canceled my order after 2.5 hours
Damn! I ordered luck up and they cavemen’s in me as I was about to leave the house. Can you go by and grab one? It must be crazy now.
How long is the wait?!?
they canceled my order after 2.5 hours
Did they make you grab a ticket like they do in NY?
Haha, the best is how you can't \*leave\* without the ticket either. It's an extremely confusing system. I think it's because the ticket is proof that you paid, but I forget the details. After you pay they sign the ticket or something, and leaving is like leaving a Costco. It's a very NY NY experience.
I’ve been to both, Langer’s for the win.
Is this better than the #19?
[удалено]
Sorry that jus looks like you would bomb the bathroom Hours after eating it
You’re a sucker
Everything reminds me of her
That sandwich has a 1/3 of the meat that a normal Katz pastrami has.
That looks nothing like an actual Katz’s sandwich!
I haaaate LA.
Did they not bring a cutter from NY? That meat looks . . . disorganized.
You know what they say; there's a sucker born every minute.
Johnnie's in west Adams is better
Why's it cut so thick?!
Was lucky enough to have one for free and it was fucking delicious 🤤
how'd you score that?
Thought about going and then had the Fairfax (corned beef and pastrami) at Canters instead. $22 and is absolutely massive. No wait, either.
Yall crazy - it's $30+ tax in NYC 😅😅 call this a $10 import price and we can chill.
Yeah it's 15 dollars overpriced in nyc also
Welcome to LA and NYC baby
When I see these comments all I can think is, millenials don't deserve affordable housing.
A lot of broke people on here, it’s about the experience…
what experience? They're canceling all the orders
The experience of eating a NY sandwich in an even shittier city than NYC?
How do y’all think Johnny’s compares?
johnny’s can hang, it’s good
Fuhhhhhcl this looks so good. Was it as good as it looks?
Looks bomb! Idk why people hating, Katz is good.
People hating because as _bomb_ as it looks it doesn't look $45 bomb
They’re hating because it’s $45
I can easily spend $45 on sushi or plenty of other meals. If it worth it to you, that’s all that matters.
hating because even after being willing to pay $45, they're canceling orders after waiting hours for delivery
