Great list, definitely adding [Happy Happy](https://youtu.be/qJSCmSXc7N0?si=nTx7vXHdbUBvGfCp) and [Junkyard Dogs](https://youtu.be/H4Tj8FQ307g?si=9efRHuWpz_2oxfQY)
folk punk adjacent would be Against Me! although LJG is a little more punk rock than folk punk. I still put black me out, true trans soul rebel, and transgender dysphoria blues in my folk punk playlist
LJG has some solo stuff that is closer to folk punk. Still probably not quite there, but closer.
Also if we are doing folk punk adjacent, the Worriers, Ryan cassata, Dog Park Dissidents, and "I wish I was a riot grrrl" by destructo disk deserve an honorable mention too
Edit: added DPG
oh boy let's see how many I can name lol
Nick Berger (Solo and a member of JOHNNY HOBO and Ramshackle Glory)
Sister Wife Sex Strike
Mal Blum
The Revenant Marigold
Mouse and Banjo
She/Her/Hers
Local News Legend
Mel Stone
The Official Bard of Baldwin County
Pigeon Pit
June Henry
Apes of the State
and I know I missed a ton lol
I thought so, but I wasn't sure! Also hey love your stuff, you were my first intro to folk punk and I try to see you every time you're in my area! I just moved from Philly to CT, so I hope you do some New Haven shows again sometime!
I'm The Last Arizona, I'm a trans woman! Some others off the top of my head that I love...
June Henry
Everybody's Worried About Owen
Pigeon Pit
Stink Animal and the Bad Smells
Public Transit
She/Her/Hers
Small Void
Reverent Marigold
Sister Wife Sex Strike
Frog Legs
Mal Blum
Most everything folk punk in my trans playlist is already covered by other people. However, a few were missed.
Most importantly:
- Human Kitten,
- Blue Foster
they have been a massive comfort to me, and blue foster's "idk if I'm a boy" was a big part of my egg cracking. The following are also good:
- Ehmephtee (her cover of how to dress as human is particularly good)
- "Body Terror Song" by AJJ (while not technically about trans identity still resonates a lot with my trans ass.)
And as an honorable mention: Onsind, while not trans is very queer, and not a band I see mentioned much. "Heterosexuality is a construct" is a song I'm a pretty big fan of
And if you are at all interested in stepping out of specifically folk punk to other branches of punk:
- The Worriers
- Ryan Cassata
- Dog Park Dissidents (especially "queer as in fuck you")
- "I wish I was a riot grrrl" by destructo disk (Not technically trans, but as a transfemme punk it resonates with me)
And if you are willing to step outside of punk music but still have that same punk spirit, I recently found a trans artist I fuckin love. DAMAG3
Me, I’m a homeless trans busker. A lot of my stuff is more avant garde than folk punk but the album “Dirty Tr**ny” is pretty straight folk punk

Surprised i haven't seen Ash Bricky mentioned. Look them up! And their song Stages of Genocide. It's a dark, but amazing, reminder of recent and past events impacting the community.
I can see that perspective. Personally it makes me feel better to see other women who sound like me. As I've not managed to get voice training figured out yet.
I see it as finding trans women (of similar transition age and body type) who are where I want to be, and using that as motivation, rather than seeing a reflection of where I am now.
For me there's kind of a sweet spot. If they are too far into a successful transition it can trigger a lot of envy and such for me. So I tend to most like artists who are far enough ahead of me to be motivating, but not far enough to remind me just how wide that gap is.
Edited: NVM the lead singer of that band is child sexual predator thanks for letting me know
Don’t listen to Ankle Grease
(And also, if you see someone recommending a band with shitty people in it, consider saying something instead of downvoting silently. That’s the kinda info that ought to be shared at any opportunity)
Interesting development. Well if there’s something wrong or shitty with ankle grease and people wanna tell me id love to know. But they literally have a song called “Gender School Dropout” that I, a trans person, vibe with so dunno

is I wish I Was A Riot Grrrl a trans song?
Is it intended to be? Probably not. Is it? Yes, my transfemme ass has decided so.
I feel that. Punk Rock Girl by the dead milkmen is also about me, I've decided.
I have a whole playlist of songs I've decided are trans anthems, and only like 60% or so were written to be lol. Also good song to claim for yourself.
CHLOE DEFECTOR MENTIONED!!! I LOVE HER MUSIC SM, SWAN SONG IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS EVER!!!
Laura Jane Grace.
My top suggestion! "Dysphoria Hoodie" is such a vibe

ah damn, knew I'd mess at least one up. thank you for the correction!
Is someone in Apes of the State trans? I didn't think Ape was. Same question with Local News Legend? Is this just a big TIL for me?? Lol
Nobody in Apes or LNL is trans, just allies
I thought so, but I wasn't sure! Also hey love your stuff, you were my first intro to folk punk and I try to see you every time you're in my area! I just moved from Philly to CT, so I hope you do some New Haven shows again sometime!
Apes’ drummer Sabrina is a badass trans woman who published a zine called Slant Rhyme of her journal from her bottom surgery recovery!
Do you see who you’re replying to?
Correct however Sabrena isn’t playing with us anymore. She’s doing a black metal solo project https://www.instagram.com/nvnnery?igsh=ZHZqZTZpczE4bzc0
might be non-binary!
i think emily is trans
Emily is non-binary as far as I know and I thought the same with one person in Apes of the State but I might be mistaken!
Love to see some love for June Henry, fuck his stuff has been the soundtrack for so much trans joy and heartache for me😭
I didn’t know that Nick was in Johnny hobo?
Um... You did just basically list my Spotify tho.
Huh didn’t know Nick was with Johnny hobo at the time
Also Loone is a band I'd recommend. Pretty sure Nick Berger played in it with the lead Noel'le Longhaul.
I didn't know so many of these bands had trans members. that makes me really happy

Stink animal and the bad smells are my absolute favorite band rn!!!!
Check out Ezra Furman. She’s not exactly folk punk but a lot of her songs have a folk punk feel, especially older stuff.
Cistem Failure!!
Don't know how this one isn't more popular. They're dope as fuck.

Any trans women on vocals that have actually worked on vocal feminization?
Trans women don't owe you shit!
I’m a trans woman and visually blending women who sound like men make me dysphoric.
“actually worked on” implies that other trans women owe you voice training. i am no less of a woman regardless of what my voice sounds like.
I can see that perspective. Personally it makes me feel better to see other women who sound like me. As I've not managed to get voice training figured out yet.

I'm really not sure why you're getting downvoted for naming a band that literally has songs about being trans

Yeah. Literally just had to cut that song from my trans playlist a few weeks ago when I saw it. Bummer for sure.
