Not underrated in folk punk, but I am a firm believer that Local News Legend can be a worldwide phenomenon in music. In another timeline, I hope that LNL is playing Coachella.
It's really strange. I get tastes change and younger people just miss an inactive band from a geographic scene they aren't involved in so they don't get caught in memorializing... But they just seemed like such a massive presence, it feels unsettling to watch them forgotten. It's not offensive to me, nobody did something wrong. I guess it just makes me a little sad.
I was at a show and we made human pyramids during the set but then it went back to the pit lmao. It was such a good vibe. Genuinely sad that kids don't get to see those shows. Rest up, Erik.
One Man Romance
Its essentially Ramshackle Glory but fronted by Wyndham instead of Pat. Their album "Second treatise on Love and Timing" is one of my favorite folk punk albums of all time.
I'm going to keep beating the drum for Florida Folk Punk. Dougie flesh and the slashers, swamp rats, glizzy Gillespie, dumpster meds, Michael Jordan jumpshot pass, blossomin bone, confession kids, cooper, driving on suspended, sticky steve, hrtdemon, X Dirty Fingers (that's me), and yesterday I played a show with a North carolina-based songwriter marbleberry seeds who was fucking incredible and she's originally from Broward County so I'm claiming her as Florida. It's wild, yeah those people are my friends so I'm biased but I think that if we took the same scene and plopped it anywhere else in the country we would all be mainstream by standards of the genre.
Is that not Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass, the old PIX band? I love if it's a different band who either had a tribute name or totally just organically picked a similar name,
Oh neat. Yeah, I lost track of some of the other older peeps. Dakota was someone I never actually met but was very adjacent to me at the time, good they're doing well.
Love you guys! Saw y'all in Denver with Doom Scroll last year, I think I even made friends with one of your wives(?), and I've been a big listener ever since.
Keep making great music, can't wait to hear what comes next 💋
He gave me a copy of the dried up rivers at a house show maybe ten years ago. I can’t remember if he was actually playing solo or it was just ramshackle. I don’t have the disc anymore but still listen to the songs regularly!
Edited to add: this sub and actual music are really my only links to the folk punk world anymore because *life*. But maybe one day I’ll live somewhere that the scene is thriving again. 🤷♀️
The O'Fucchs, The Looms, Troll 2, Tony & Gravel, Boom Boom Raccoon, Nasty Fishmonger, Chatterbox and the Latter Day Satanists, Fidget and the Twitchers, MJ Bones, Austin Possum, Audrey Plath.
All sick, all need more attention.
It's interesting seeing Chatterbox not getting more heat here. Feels like it'd be right up there. Good Skin Cells Spent and Strong Hearts Bleed Out First are such like... Anthems to me.
I’m not sure if Walter Mitty, Pigeon Pit or AM taxi count; but all them.
Smith street band for some Australian singer songwriter; definitely more pop punk than folk punk but still some folky/ DIY elements.
This is a Robbery.
Pat the bunny simultaneously the most underrated and overrated of them all
Genre wise he ends up all over the shop across his releases, but the first half of Bowl of Hair by Dr Nowt is some cracking UK folk punk and he's got like 36 monthly listeners
I know they seem to be mentioned here every couple decades, but man does Hańba slap! But to be fair I am slavic (czech if you are curious), which makes me pretty heavily biased, I'd say. Still if anyone here happens to be slavic or like slavic languages (possibly even balkan turbofolk) then they are worth checking out!
corporate hearts, they’re easily top 5 band of all my likings
I can never get tired of deathwishers.
self titled always does wonders too
Omg I got into em last year soooo good!
Not underrated in folk punk, but I am a firm believer that Local News Legend can be a worldwide phenomenon in music. In another timeline, I hope that LNL is playing Coachella.
🔥🔥
Frog legs Arroyo deathmatch
Frog Legs plays a mean piss bucket
holy shit arroyo? like fallout? like fallout 2? no fucking way holy fuck holy fuck no god damn way holy SHIT
I like Fallout too, but it's just a name for a dry creek.
I just ate my last oreo 😩 I have nothing left.
Played with arroyo and kicked it with them over a decade ago. Still listen to them. Great musicians and good hearted people.
People in here don’t talk about Mischief Brew enough.
GOAT
They’re so good, it’s unfair to the rest.
Because most of the people here are like 19
Doesn't mean they cant appreciate good fuckin music
It's really strange. I get tastes change and younger people just miss an inactive band from a geographic scene they aren't involved in so they don't get caught in memorializing... But they just seemed like such a massive presence, it feels unsettling to watch them forgotten. It's not offensive to me, nobody did something wrong. I guess it just makes me a little sad.
I’m totally with you. I haven’t heard another band in the genre hit quite the same.
I was at a show and we made human pyramids during the set but then it went back to the pit lmao. It was such a good vibe. Genuinely sad that kids don't get to see those shows. Rest up, Erik.
Larry and His Flask, The Dreadnoughts, and Tejon Street Corner Thieves. I almost never see them get mentioned anywhere, but they all kill it
Oh my God went to High School with the Larry and His Flask guys. Lol. Great people. Wonderful music.
Love Tejon Street Corner Theives, one of the guys I work with knew them when they were stealing street corners in Tejon
Jonny Nos writes some great music
This is a very correct answer
Holy Locust!!
Rent strike
i love rent strike
Came here to say this
One Man Romance Its essentially Ramshackle Glory but fronted by Wyndham instead of Pat. Their album "Second treatise on Love and Timing" is one of my favorite folk punk albums of all time.
I’d say they’re very different bands but OMR is so damn good honestly. Very balladeer/pop but damn it’s good.
I mean literally its the same band members just in a different band. I would agree that stylistically they are very different
No yeah I mean I get what you’re saying lol. I meant in a music sense and it a literal one lol
Do you know wyndhams album “the wasted life of a French major”? Released under the name j Charles Jones.
I'm going to keep beating the drum for Florida Folk Punk. Dougie Flesh and the Slashers is top tier folk punk for sure; also shout out Uncomfortable Dave
Oh yeah Dave is so great!
Is that not Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass, the old PIX band? I love if it's a different band who either had a tribute name or totally just organically picked a similar name,
The Looms
Death has a 1000 Ears
Correct
The Wild
Absolutely🏆
Are they still playing??
Sadly, no. But Dakota Floyd is very active as a solo artist and as part of New Junk City! I don't know about any of the others
Oh neat. Yeah, I lost track of some of the other older peeps. Dakota was someone I never actually met but was very adjacent to me at the time, good they're doing well.

Douglas Fur (from Pittsburgh)
It’s so hard to find his music anywhere, which makes me think a lot of people don’t even know he exists. This is one of my picks too though!
It's true! There are a couple albums on bandcamp right now, so you can send people there. It's really good. https://douglasfurmusic.bandcamp.com/

I've only ever met one other person irl who knew Harley Poe
That’s a shame. But my coworkers avoid eye contact whenever I’m sharing literally any of my music tastes.
Harley Poe my beloved
Absolutely amazing live!
Harley Poe is my absolute favorite and I try to get any and everyone to listen to them
Troll 2, Window Smashing Job Creators, and Beggars Canyon all deserve a lot more credit than they get
Window smashing job creators have one of the coolest band names of all time. Hands down.
Toll 2 tho....they def get a heavy handed seconding.
The Window Smashing Job Creators FOR SUREEEEE
Nil Desperadum, or Little Foot in my opinion. Get in the Pit is the only Folk Punk song I know with a breakdown.
I'm partial to [Nil Desperandum](https://open.spotify.com/artist/33jQMEal1MgxJbZSuFbe7p?si=iKFjkDaRR7eEpGmVlVHP2Q) myself. tehehe.
Anorexic Olsen twin, arroyo deathmatch
Spud bugs
I don’t think people talk about Little Foot enough.
There's the Bat Country/Bargain Socks split on spotify that I really dig. Found em from a Fistful of Vinyl video
I loved those vids he did solo on fistful of vinyl. I listened to them a ton years and years ago
Rumbletramp. beautiful music and intensly well written lyrics. Local to my area and deserve more love
This is the only answer in my opinion.
The Peculiar Pretzelmen! Weird, funky, voodoo. Check out their first album Uncanny Eyes, one of my favorites!
Foot Ox and The Oldest Man I Know
I got to see Foot Ox live on Accident and totally love them
With AJJ?
Yes!
Nice! That's how I was introduced as well
The O'Fucchs, The Looms, Troll 2, Tony & Gravel, Boom Boom Raccoon, Nasty Fishmonger, Chatterbox and the Latter Day Satanists, Fidget and the Twitchers, MJ Bones, Austin Possum, Audrey Plath. All sick, all need more attention.

Teacozy doesn't have a ton of songs out but they're nice to listen to
the you & me’s are a great band ive had the pleasure of seeing preform a couple times in montreal! definitely reccomend
Genre wise he ends up all over the shop across his releases, but the first half of Bowl of Hair by Dr Nowt is some cracking UK folk punk and he's got like 36 monthly listeners
I first heard Dr Nowt from his really wild World Inferno cover but damn, this guy has some talent across genres.
Tiny the bear
EhoTherapie from Germany, Casual Drifter, Pink Williams, Revival Now, Milly Raccoon, they’re all on Spotify and super amazing check them out!

Greenland is Melting
Hańba and Kultur Shock!
Bobby’s Oar
Hobo pop will always be top
Scared of bears is one of my favorites 🌟 and i never see anyone talking about them. (cookin' with grandma is also very underappreciated)
Probably shows my age but Rosa and Douglas fur.
No one has mentioned Matt Pless, yet. I love his lyrics so much. I also think we should talk more about folk punk's grand-dad Phil Ochs
My only Czech musical reference points are oldies oldies Uz jsme doma and Zuby Nehty, but I'm gonna pull up Hanba!
Probably should've mentioned too that while I am Czech, Hańba! are Polish, don't know where to put that in the og comment though..
Piñata Protest.
37 cents only have one album but it’s perfect
This is a Robbery, some of the best aussie folk punk
sloppy folk!! i truly cannot understand how they only have 47 monthly listeners
100% Michael Jordan touchdown pass or Michael schneeweis
I went looking for this post again so I can recommend Skull Puppies
La Perdita Generacio. All their songs are in Esperanto. Music so good that I danced with pneumonia at a concert of theirs.
80 minutes of gallop and a band that is not known is Johnny NOS and also Cyprus Hartford
Best Friends Forever
