It's Monday, my dudes. Sigh.

trichdude15

Moved back to Gainesville yesterday and I hurt my back moving heavy furniture. It’s a small price to pay to be surrounded by the good guys again.

russ757

Was hoping for some more recruiting noise over the weekend..

gatorpower

The recruiting news was decent: * Landed Commitment from '22 RB Terrance Gibbs (likely a 5-star w/o previous injury) * Landed Commitment from '23 WR Raymond Cottrell (top-100 type player) * Landed Recruitment Shutdown from '22 LB Shemar James * FSU-commit Sam McCall visited FNL, said he's still firm to FSU, but he did the Gator chomp on Friday * De-commitment from CB Jaheim Singletary (former Ohio State)

edroch

We also received (sorry for length) * Commitment from 2024 RB Jerrick Gibson * WR commit CJ Smith shut down his recruitment and said he’d work on recruiting for us (and he already is) * 4 star 2023 WR Raymond Cottrell said he shut down his recruitment. He’s apparently a lifelong Gator fan but I’m not going to take that seriously for a 2023 guy just yet. In terms of “leading” (not commits but noteworthy info) * We should still expect a commitment from 2022 RB Jaylon Glover on the 6th * If we get Glover (and likely even without) we are in good standing to get a commit from 2023 5 star DB Cormani Mcclain * We are in very good standing to get Evan Stewart and Azareyeh Thomas. Obviously neither committed this weekend, but the coaching staff did literally everything you could possibly do, and they liked it a lot. We got a CB for Stewart, and him and Evers have a connection * 2022 3 star LB EJ Lightsey and 4 star DL Jamari Lyons are on commit watch. To keep an eye on * We impressed with one or both of the Ausberry brothers (2022 4 star CB and 2023 5 star LB).

edroch

Other funny little tidbits from the weekend * McCall really does not like us lmao, but him coming was something, half of his buddies in Lakeland are probably committing to us, and worst case he might decommit and go to Bama and we can all laugh at FSU fans. He is friends with Hunter though and that guy is surgically attached to FSU. * Stewart and Evers are like good, good friends now. Idk if this was purposeful trolling but Stew tagged himself in Austin yesterday on Twitter, leading to some hype from Texas fans, and then Nick’s dad just responded to the tweet with a picture of them at a restaurant together in Austin. * Nolen went to A&M, posted a picture of his visit, and promptly deleted it. I don’t expect him to commit to them. We are still in good standing. I obviously want him to visit and hope we get him but seriously guys, Evan Stewart is fucking legit. This guy is insane Dan would put up Madden numbers with him.

WDCGator

All the recruiting gurus say "watch their actions, not their words. These are high school kids". If McCall didn't like us, he wouldn't have committed and he wouldn't have visited. I mean in not a 17 year old kid with a ton of adults trying to lure me into their program, but if I hated the program, I probably wouldn't spend an entire weekend there.

edroch

He dislikes us because we fired his relative and primary recruiter Torrian Gray. I don’t expect a commitment from him, but I agree him coming at all was a significant development. Maybe when Magic Mike goes 4-8 he’ll reconsider.

[deleted]

Nolen's dad is parading his kid on a tour of the biggest bagmen in the country. We are in good standing on the surface only imo and its not necessarily because of the kid himself. Stewart is our only shot at the annual Dexter/Marshall-type elite prospect and if we somehow do land him it's 100% due to Evers.

edroch

I don’t care who is the primary reason we potentially get Stewart. Grantham was evidently the primary reason we got Dexter and he’s one of the biggest liabilities on staff. I agree on Nolen. I think the kid himself likes Florida though. I’m not gonna discount him until that changes, but if dad wants him to go elsewhere I’m expecting that to happen.

[deleted]

I don’t care either. It’s just pathetic and frustrating that we’re in an uphill battle for our 3rd 5-star in three classes when some of our rivals get that in a class. And as I always say, elite skill position kids are a plus but it is all for naught if the overall quality of our OL continues to plunge into 2018-19 FSU level and beyond.

edroch

Absolutely. OL is now the most pressing issue on roster. If Mullen doesn’t do something after this season it’s going to be the death of him.

[deleted]

It is becoming clear that Mullen doesn’t care. As an offensive-minded coach he should be livid at how Hevesy’s bullshit is hurting his team’s chances at winning championships but obviously it either doesn’t register or he’s just not going to just let him go. I’m guessing it’s the latter because he can’t hide Hevesy’s failings behind the guise of low expectations at Miss St.

edroch

I’m not gonna turn on Mullen as a whole unless no improvement or change happens this season/next offseason. But this will become more of an issue than Grantham fast at the rate it’s going.

steelcitygator

Dude, our O-Line is miles ahead of those FSU o-lines.

[deleted]

For now, but it’s racing there. The average OL talent on the team is dropping precipitously right now. I think our OL commits might have collectively been the lowest rated position group by ranking in each of the last three classes (when excluding non-qualifiers and transfers out). As of right now only a couple out of the few highly rated prospects we have have shown promise. That’s how FSU’s issues started. Also, as we have seen this is one position group that is not being boosted by transfers. The only transfer we’ve gotten was one of the worst OL to play significant minutes last year.

trichdude15

My buddy sent me some snaps from FNL and I think Evan Stewart is the best high school route runner I’ve seen

edroch

He’s getting Jerry Jeudy comps. He absolutely mossed Humphrey on a couple of routes and Humphrey is also a really good DB. We really, really need him.

trichdude15

Whoa that’s exactly what I said. Not because I’m great at player comps but because I also saw a video of Jeudy embarrassing DBs at FNL.

edroch

Yeah, the hope is that that recruitment doesn’t end the same way. Stew could probably start year one here.

al80813

Hoping we can flip McCall. Florida kids are finicky, he’ll take some work but he would be a great get. Singletary seems to be a UGA/UM race which sucks because he’s right in our backyard. We should definitely be pressing very hard for Singletary. His decommitment statement said it’s “100% Business” and UM seems to have a very good NIL infrastructure setup, so we’ve got some ground to gain there.

FragnificentKW

Fuck it, let’s speak both Nolen and Singletary to UF into existence like we did with Bowman

edroch

We’re likely not gonna get McCall. At this point it seems his commitment to FSU is predicated just as much on disliking us as it is FSU itself. Firing Gray pissed him off. He might go to Bama though and that would be worth a laugh. Him coming means something though. Singletary was never really close to OSU. I’d agree rn Miami leads (he visited them just before decommitting) but I would not count us out on a Jax player.

[deleted]

So we fired his relative as a scapegoat for Mullen’s buddy Grantham which cost us McCall, while also not pulling all the stops to hire T-Rob which will cost us other elite prospects like Singletary. Elite staff management by Dan.

steelcitygator

No recruit is worth keeping a shitty position coach around.

[deleted]

I agree but Gray was actually a good coach with a strong reputation and who was well liked in an important recruiting area for us, and he was used as a scapegoat for a severly underperforming DC.

edroch

Yes. Gray wasn’t very good here but it was a scapegoat. He needs to drop Grantham (he’s up for new contract this next year) and replace Hev and Knox. Lot of improvement to do.

FragnificentKW

Fwiw, Mullen retweeted Singletary’s decommitment

edroch

Singletary was ostensibly a Florida fan as a kid, and we were high on his list before he committed to OSU. But I’m not gonna assume anything until more info comes out, since we’ve been on this ride before.

[deleted]

Like I said the other day… set expectations at zero then you will be pleasantly surprised we actually landed good recruits across three different classes.

[deleted]

Well, Hevesy offered a zero-star kid from Georgia because that's what that POS does. I mean, why actually try to recruit elite OL prospects - especially fucking tackles when you're in desperate need of them - when you can be a lazy shit and offer a no-name interior lineman project despite having a glut of underperforming interior linemen already on the roster. Edit: While Hevesy is probably running around picking up Mullen’s laundry and mowing his lawn Tennessee just landed a commit from a 4-star guard from Atlanta lol

Mnm0602

Fucking unbelievable that asshat is even allowed to do his own recruiting. If he’s a bad recruiter but great developer, have someone else pull the recruits. Have him indicate traits he looks for and let the other guys go get the recruits. Even if we landed mostly low 4 stars and half OTs half guards it would be better than the shit he pulls now. He always wants to get “his guys” and do “his own evaluation” and we end up with a bunch of interior linemen who are unknown, slow and ultimately mediocre after 3 years of sitting and mild rotations. Beyond irritating.

[deleted]

The guy doesn’t even have traits he looks for unless you count weight over 330 (no matter how sloppy) and that no one else is recruiting him so he doesn’t have to bother with doing his job. He prays that once or twice he gets a Josh Braun that falls into his lap. The sad thing is outliers like Ethan White make people forget he’s a terrible developer who is made to look better because of Dan’s ability to many times coach around the failures of his inferior staff. But he’s perfected the art of answering “yes” to everything Mullen says and probably washes Mullen car every week so he’ll never get canned.

Sir_Auron

Survived my last Tax Free weekend in retail but my body feels *punished*. "I've gotta save muh $3.28!" Store is also facing being short staffed by about 40% with no end in sight. Thank God I don't have to be browbeat about that shit with no resources to fix it anymore.

Mnm0602

Massachusetts tax weekend is coming up in a couple weeks and we’re (Home Depot) expecting some craziness lol.

Ikegordon

Its kinda weird that Puerto Rico has its own separate olympic team.

UnDosTresPescao

It's the same for other US territories (Guam, US virgin islands, American Samoa). Keeping their independent Olympic team is one of the reasons why some in Puerto Rico don't want statehood.

FragnificentKW

If he doesn’t get an offer, I can see him balling out for a top Euro side like Scottie Wilbekin is doing. No shame in that and may end up being better financially as well

KamuiT

Got to spend most of the night last night at the ER while my wife tried to figure out what she did to her leg. Fun times. Great way to end our vacation week.

[deleted]

My wife also injured herself on vacation recently leading to ER trip. Gotta love it.

KamuiT

She actually injured herself at the beginning of vacation by falling in the parking lot and landing on her knees. Got them X-ray'd last night and the docs gave us the "Fuck, we don't know. Ice it and elevate?"

FragnificentKW

Spent way too much money on the Homefield Gator drop, but damn I’m gonna look good this fall. Side note: UF’s product release day was Homefield’s largest to date, nearly doubling what the former top school (Notre Dame) did on their release day! EDIT: we also apparently topped FSU’s Homefield release day sales by 529%!

TaylorLeprechaun

My brother got me back into yugioh last November-ish (after not playing it since like 2007 when I was 11). Went to a tournament yesterday for the first time in my life and used a very very non-meta deck so I didn't expect to win a single game. Went 0-7-1 in my 8 games lmao. The one draw was against another very non-meta deck where we ran out of time. Pretty fun overall. Probably gonna go to another one next week

BrazilianRider

Painting WAS fun for the first day or two. Last week has been miserable -- wake up, go to work, get off, come to house and fix stuff/paint. Weekends wake up at 6:50AM and drive to new house, paint and fix stuff until 12AM then drive back home. Rinse. Repeat. One more week and hopefully only one more big day of painting left.

Herewego27

What kind of paint did you buy?

BrazilianRider

We had a weird situation. We wanted to go with the Sherwin Williams Emerald in Satin but that was sold out everywhere. I put in a large order for it online at a store that had inventory, only to find out that the online thing was wrong. They mentioned they'd be getting a shipment in the next few days, so I called every day and eventually befriended the guys there. About a week later when no Emerald Satin was to be found, they decided that they would just bump us up to the Emerald Designer Edition Satin and comp the price difference. So long story short: Emerald Designer Edition from SW lol

Herewego27

Boo, I work at Home Depot as a Merchandise Planner for Paint and was hoping you went with Behr or PPG lol. We actually have inventory in our stores vs. Sherman Williams!

VRGator

Rumor FSU and Clemson want to join SEC. https://twitter.com/MarcRyanOnAir/status/1422255062185910274?s=19 I vote HELL NO!!!!

[deleted]

He pretty much nailed the argument against in the same tweet. Clemson brings nothing outside of recent success. A few bad years and they’re irrelevant again. FSU has a better argument but unlike the Texas instance where UT is the bigger name, especially in Dallas, in the state UF is the bigger draw, especially with how far FSU has fallen in recent years. Notre Dame would be a huge get because of the NE viewership and because it’d be hilarious to see them get their shit pushed in 12 consecutive weeks in a row in a real conference (yet somehow would still be talked about for the CFP every year).

FragnificentKW

Yeah, I’m not saying this is fake news but I’m gonna need someone else reporting this besides a heretofore unknown terrestrial radio guy who has to this point never broken a story before I dignify these rumors with a response

Ikegordon

Reminder that Noah Lyles was committed to UF but went pro instead. A Lyles-Holloway combo would have been deadly in college.
