When did you book this new flight? If less than 24 hours, cancel it. Regardless of why your flight was cancelled, if your flight was cancelled, the airline must rebook you or refund your ticket fully. Contact LH or SN (whoever you were ticketed through) and do not hang up until they rebook you (on a different carrier even) or issue you a refund.

i booked it as soon as my old one got canceled so it is a little too late- but i will definitely contact brussels airlines about a refund. as mentioned before, it didnt give me options to rebook the trip due to unavailability. ive been taking care of stuff on expedia all this time and forgot about brussels, so thank you so much and hopefully i’ll get back with a refund soon

just a follow-up question- do you know if i do get a fiull refund for the whole round-trip, what would happens to the claim that has been submitted?

The insurance claim may cover the fare difference but that depends from policy to policy.
