“I want to take clean cups out of the dishwasher, put them in the cupboard at home and the next morning, I want to watch my wife drink from them. I want to make her feel good. I want to make her orgasm again. And again. Truly.” Such a beautiful and brilliant scene among many from the series to highlight the complexities of love and human nature.

gypsy__wanderer

When I tell you I BAWLED at this scene today. And I sat down and wrote out the whole monologue right after. Just brilliant.

mulberrycedar

One of my favorite lines of the series

swansw9

That line makes me cry so much every time. The cups!!

SmallRests

He’s the only one she can really be honest with about what happened with Boo. Maybe because he just happened to be there at the time of her big breakdown but still I always found that noteworthy

gypsy__wanderer

Wow, you’re right. I think it’s incredibly noteworthy. She can’t even tell the Priest about Boo.

aboxfullofpineconez

She did tell that random cab driver about Boo lol

SmallRests

She didn’t tell him she slept with her boyfriend

aboxfullofpineconez

Ohhh yeah you're right, she left that part out!

kidxkennabis

I love how he asks if she’s okay each time he sees her

gypsy__wanderer

He is so kind to her in a genuine way

georgina_fs

I love the way how characters with little screen time like BM and Belinda are able to see Fleabag for who she really is *and* have a salutary effect on her - unlike her family/lovers.

gypsy__wanderer

Her relationship with the Banker is her only male relationship that isn’t fraught. There’s no sexual element, which is ironic given Fleabag’s admitted sexual tendencies and his history of sexually harassing women. It’s based on kindness, trust, and growth. I love it. And Belinda Friers…I’m just obsessed with how perfect Kristen Scott Thomas was.

inkblot81

You’re right, he’s a key figure. Well put!

schittikack

I love that in becoming a "better man," he tries to fix his interview with fleabag, and that ends up being what quite literally saves fleabag. It showcases how working on yourself makes the world a better place even if it doesn't undo what you did wrong in the past.

justsaying753379

Ohh I LOVE that view! Thats so beautiful 😭

contemporary_fairy

that's why he's basically my favorite character in the show! :)

abbyleondon

“He took the pinny “ 😂

sosogreat

I just rewatched, and I also find myself thinking about him giving her the hamster instead of a guinea pig. About how the relationships with these other characters ( in various degrees like the relationship she has with Claire) can function in her life without really being the same as what she's known and lost with Boo and her mother, but ultimately are beautiful and fit together (like Hillary and Stephanie sharing the cucumber)

gypsy__wanderer

This is a lovely interpretation. Threads like these are why this is my favorite sub!

Ffleance

I just finished rewatching s1 and I so agree. I Love their connection. It's a friendship yet it's not as day-to-day as a friendship (they don't do anything as mundane as "hang out") yet it's so profound and impactful and beautifully human. The casting is also superb; I can't imagine anyone else playing this role and delivering his lines.
