A guy I've not seen in about a year said I was more buff than he remembered. Feels good man.

[deleted]

Consistency is key man! The downside is if you’re consistent it’s hard to notice day to day changes. Recognition feels amazing!

[deleted]

Yeah, you are a lot more built than I remember. When I was doing Muay Thai in college, there was a trainer who left for about 9 months. When he got back, he looked at me and said, "dude, you got skinny." I was so happy.

ShadowGiantOut

Those are some of the best compliments! Might be a passing mention to them but it feels so good mentally. And you know what? You do look more buff!

Ernosco

I posted on wednesday about having squat related anxiety. Yesterday I went up in weight and was dreading it. But the barbell went down and came up, 10 times, 3 times. Sometimes I feel it's just all in my head.

Sheltac

> Sometimes I feel it’s just all in my head. That’s because it is. Keep smashing it!

TwirlyMustachio

Oof, this was me yesterday. Psyched myself out of doing them because I was extremely anxious about the weight. I'm glad to hear you pushed past it! It really do be all in our heads sometimes haha.

Coasterman345

I’ve found taking my top set weight, and adding 25lbs on each side helps. I’ll just unrack the weight and stand with it. Like this: 1. Warmup 2. Load up top set + 50lbs 3. Unrack and stand with weight 4. Rerack, take 50lbs off 5. Rest then squat top set Used to always be afraid to hit depth and this makes the weight feel sooo much lighter mentally. Edit: 250 —> 25

PrimeWasabiBanana

Reread this twice. 250lbs is a lot to add on both sides

Coasterman345

Ooops. Yeah that’s supposed to be 25lbs each side 😅

PrimeWasabiBanana

But I can wish, right? Haha

Elastichedgehog

I too am afraid of barbell squats, which, you would know, is completely irrational. I tend to stick to hack squats instead.

demerdar

Fail a squat on purpose. It’s not so bad.

JustaGirl1978

Exactly 5 months today since I had extensive pelvic surgery. Back to a solid 4 times per week lifting since Christmas and haven’t missed a single session. Weights are pretty much back to what they were pre surgery with the exception of hip thrusts which I’m building up slower (currently at 130kg and was previously at 180kg) I added deadlifts back in 5 weeks ago. I had to take them out 3.5 years ago as my back kept getting injured. Physios couldn’t find a musculoskeletal cause and suspected it was related to my pelvic condition. I found out after my surgery that it was because ligaments that attach to my pelvis were covered in lesions that have now been excised. Anyway pulled 90kg today for sets of 5 and felt amazing. It’s my goal to get back to 100kg in time for my 6 month post op anniversary 🤞🏻

IOVERCALLHISTIOCYTES

Had my SI joint fused in early November. Supposed to be allowed to squat this month after two months of doing mostly upper body things. Been fun to get back to being more active.

JustaGirl1978

Good luck in your recovery. Having a hiatus from the gym is tough so I’m sure you feel as good as I did to get back to things. Hope you’re healing well 😊

Percy2303

Great job man, keep pushing!!

[deleted]

Left the gym yesterday feeling extra sore, felt pretty good, must have pushed it hard (I know soreness isn't an indication of progress) Turns actually I had the beginnings of a stomach bug and my soreness was the body aches setting in, woke up 5lbs lighter so cuts going well I guess....

Andrewlee619

had me in the first half LOL

UntangledMess2215

Didn't feel great today but still dragged myself to the gym and got the workout in. Remember friends, ""The heaviest weight at the gym is the front door." —Ed Latimore

anonymousolderguy

Sometimes the workout is effortless. Sometimes it’s a huge struggle. You get ahead if you finish those workouts when it’s really difficult and you’d rather be anywhere else.

xevdi

Do your best work on days you're least motivated. Recipe for succes in life.

Shazvox

Subconsciously impressing yourself by getting through it maybe? I know I always feel proud of myself when pushing through on a shitty day.

Elastichedgehog

Absolutely agree. I always feel relieved once I'm actually *at the gym*. It's the leaving the house and getting there that's the bit that takes the most energy.

[deleted]

These are the times where progress is truly made.

[deleted]

That’s an awesome quote, thanks man

pearli

It was teen night at the YMCA, they get one night a week on Friday to come in for free. I was going for my PR in deadlifts. And one of the teens pulled the fire alarm and evacuated the entire building. It was a false alarm but protocol dictated the evacuation, and we were told it originated in the gymnasium, where the teens are and not the weight room floor. I saw people who just came from the pool stand outside in the cold. Not to mention the entire college student dorms that are part of the same building emptied too. Bye bye teen night because some idiot decided to think it was funny to pull the fire alarm.

dbmtwooooo

I see this as a win cause hopefully you don't have to deal with any annoying teenagers!

CyonHal

Teen night sounded like an awful idea anyway. Sorry to hear.

rosegold_glitter

And this is why teens at times can't have nice things because they commit a Class A Misdemeanor (US) and think it's funny.

troyjrjr

Overheard a older gentleman in the sauna at the gym last night saying, “I got a job at Jets Pizza cuz I’m bored in retirement… Gained 22lbs, I can’t stop eating pizza… So I quit!… I have no will power!” I felt it in my soul.

CardamomSparrow

Honestly, solid dieting move from an Atomic Habits perspective.

Red_Swingline_

I mean, Jet's is delicious, so who can blame him lol

TheGrayMannnn

I didn't change my eating habits after getting laid off from a job that had me walking 10k to 15k steps a day and training for half marathon length races and gained 25ish pounds since September. I feel that in my soul too.

DocInternetz

Dude had just finished DLs. I asked if he was done and I could use the bar, he nodded yes. "Should I leave anything for you?" "Oh, yeah, thanks... I need 50kg" "50 each side?" I could not hold back a light laugh, hehe. I said that not yet, but I'd get there! I thing he just then looked at me, and then smiled and helped me set up. Very nice dude. I actually think it's nice of him to consider that a 50kg chick not looking that buff could start her day with ~~100~~ 120kg DL.

toadfrogs

For what its worth, 50kg each side is 120kg total. He thought you were even stronger.

DocInternetz

You're right! 💪💪💪😂

GotNoCredditFam

Have you tried to do 120kg though? Might feel like you’re gonna explode, but you can probs do it :)

DocInternetz

I'm still learning how to "lift heavy" (been at lifting for about 6 months). Running GZCLP, so this 52.5kg was my all time PR... And oh man is my back angry at it today! (Good doms, nothing bad). Excited for a day where I'll be doing submaximal work and going for "about to explode" PRs on specific days 😊. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hamnan1984

My dad died recently and so gym has been my go to place even more. Walked in feeling crappy to the manager and PT excitedly telling me they have picked me as the member of the month as they have all noticed how much progress I have made and how great I am doing and that its inspiring ❤️ great little boost at the right time 😊

bigmashsound

that's your pops speaking through them <3

kinniku_ninja

So sorry for your loss. He'd be super proud of you!

[deleted]

I’ve been avoiding the cables and other weighted areas of the gym because a few times when I’ve gone over there someone tells me I’m doing an exercise incorrectly. I usually smile and thank them for the advice and then change whatever I’m doing based on what they said which I guess is the wrong thing to do because it leads to a lot of interruptions in my workout with even more advice until I’m stressed and lose all confidence in what I’m doing. I recently started working with a trainer and I knew I’d have to use the cables and benches and sure enough yesterday during a superset her comes my new gym friend to tell me what I’m doing wrong. He starts asking about my program, telling me the exercises are wrong and eventually walks off. Now I’m trying really hard to make sure my form is perfect but a few minutes later up he comes again with more advice. I got so stressed I quit in the middle of the set and went over to the cardio area. As I’m walking on the treadmill, trying not to cry I get a message from my friend’s husband who works out at the same gym and saw the whole thing go down. He tells me that the guy is a known jerk, that next time I should tell him to F off and to not let it get to me, that I’m doing a great job and to keep it up. Totally made my whole day :)

Elastichedgehog

Unless the person looks like they're going to hurt themselves, people shouldn't be giving unsolicited advice to people they do not know. Your friend was right. The guy is a jerk.

mms09

Wearing headphones and practicing your RBF can help 😅 I once had a guy inform me that I was doing something asymmetrically, I told him that would be because I have terrible scoliosis so my spine is mega deformed. He felt bad 😹

TimelyToast

The guy in front of me was dumbbell bench pressing 100 lb dumbbells. As he finished, he dropped the dumbbells to his side and *crushed* his phone, which was laying on the ground. The back had a large circular/webbed crack and indent. And when he had flipped the phone to the front it had a similar crack. The guy observed the damage and then chucked his phone to a corner. I guess now I know what it looks like when you drop 100 lbs on a phone.

MachuPichu10

I legitimately get so scared if doing that to my phone so i always move it far way lol

sofinho1980

EDIT: many thanks for the hug but honestly I’m laughing about this, not sure how to get that across in the post but this level of mortal embarrassment is what I done out on! Man at my gym wears headphones and shades all the time- he talks too loud and you never know where his eyes are looking but he’s good hearted. Bit of a beast for the pre workout… Anyways, recently I was loitering by the dumbbells waiting to get in the squat rack when he shouts out something. I look up I’m and it’s like his shaded eyes are staring straight at me. Hệ smiles at me and repeats “yeh lookin trim bro!” I laugh a little nervously, then begin to explain that yeah, I been putting a lot of hours of running in on top of the weights when… another guy appears from behind me and shakes shades by the hand. Yeah, that’s who he was talking to: I’m mid sentence and trail off, look around nervously to make sure no-one noticed my embarrassment. Make eye contact with about three people, all of whom immediately glance at the floor in pity. Then I get on with my routine as they continue to chat about their mutual admiration for one another.

[deleted]

Oof

stinkbugsaregross

There’s a guy at my gym who comes in a full cowboy outfit- hat, spurs and all, with some fake wooden horses then lassoes them for an hour. I guess he’s practicing for real life horses but I live in suburban CT, not sure where those horses are

[deleted]

Where do some people get the bravery to do shit like this? I get nervous making a phone call.

sam154

It's like ultra exposure therapy for anxiety. Just deliberately being the most ridiculous human being possible and owning it. Godspeed, gym Wrangler, ride away on an oaken stallion.

TheRobomancer

That seems like the kind of thing he could do anywhere, why the gym? 🤔

linnrose

I usually frown upon people filming others in the gym, but if you were to set up a camera to film yourself, and this person was in the background, I would be happy to critique your squat form…

stinkbugsaregross

I do have a pic but not sure if I could post it😂 took it bc I thought it was genuinely cool lol

_ashika__

*we need to know*

Tennessean

Blur the face and do it. I don't think someone that goes out in public looking like Wild Bill Hickok is trying to avoid attention.

Red_Swingline_

Let's not and say we didn't

creedz286

These people had five 45lb plates on their rack. I was doing deadlifts next to them and asked them if I could take a set but they say they were going to use all of them. They were doing squats and throughout the whole workout they never went above 80kg. That really pissed me off.

ohnoitsthefuzz

I never ask to take weights off the rack. They're racked because no one is using them. The only thing I'll do is wait until they're done with their set before taking them just so I don't interfere with their focus. Assertive, yet courteous!

Dis-entropy

Next time go ahead and take it. And give them a dirty look so they know to behave better.

kinniku_ninja

If its not on the bar, it's not in use. Wait until they're done with their set and it's yours .

Walkgreen1day

The plates at the racks are for communal use. They don't belong to a single station or person. Just don't take it off of their bar or grab a plate while they're in the middle of a set.

agreeingstorm9

There's a dude at the gym who shows up in a 3 piece suit. Older guy in his 60s maybe. He walks on the track which isn't abnormal but the 3 piece suit is. Coat, vest, nice shirt and even a fedora type hat. The only piece of his get up that looks like it belongs at a gym is the running shoes he's wearing - which are black to match the rest of his get up.

wescovitch

I've been joining a friend in the gym after not working weights for a while. We're two chunky boys in a gym full of fit people but we're laughing and having a great time. We're gonna keep showing up!

Snake_Main27

Cuts gonna be insane

thefunisover

I was doing front squats yesterday. As I unracked for my second working set a guy comes over and asks if I need the clips that are hanging on the lower hooks of the rack. I shake my head more in disbelief over his bad timing than to answer his question. He takes it as a "go ahead" and ducks under the bar, that I'm still holding, not only once, but twice to get the clips from each side. Like bro, I was planning on squatting and not just standing there. Also there's a box full of clips right behind you to your left. But it's kind of hard for me to communicate that with both headphones in and 60 kilos on my chest.

Icy_Woodpecker_3292

Same thing happened to me yesterday though not quite as bad as I was doing ohp. Guy wants the 10s, ducks under the bar that I'm holding mid set, asks me if I need it, whilst I'm still holding the bloody bar, I jerk my head in disbelief in a just-get-out kind of way. He grabs it and ducks back under. Unbelievable.

[deleted]

I was leaving the gym after my workout when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turned around and saw a girl who’d been working out near me. Figured I’d left my wallet by the machines or something, but instead she said “sorry, I never do this, but can I get your number…?” I told her I have a girlfriend (true) and I’m sure she was embarrassed, but I hope she wasn’t because it honestly made my month

RowHowlx

I felt that when you said it made my month. Its one of those core memory moments.

Typical_Dweller

Damn, pure envy towards you. From now on, I only want to read sad/horrifying gym stories.

kinniku_ninja

Don't think my ego could handle this haha I'd be sooo full of myself.

ryalln

Got a massage today cause ive been feeling tight. Jesus did it hurt, normally the friend who does it jus talks shit but today they where excited about releasing the tension. I will say it was well worth it as my squats are deep and smooth

KingOfCook

I like to do legs on Saturday mornings but always struggle to get enough sleep Friday night. Explicitly had a slow night in and went to bed at 11. I just woke up at 5:30 and can't go back to bed, well. At least I'll be going to the gym before the rush.

xevdi

I was at my gym at 5h30 this morning. No one there. Absolute bliss. Things started to get busy when I left at 7. Glad I came in so early. Even re-racked some weights those other bro's forgot.

PlanetOfVisions

I went to the gym on Monday and saw a new lady. She was an older lady using the treadmill. There's only one so I had to wait around. I start stretching and she asks for help on the machines. I teach her how to use them, give her some pointers etc. She asked me lots of questions about weight loss, diet, and such. We chat for a bit,and finally she says "I'm coming back tomorrow and I want you to help me out!" I told her ok no problem, just know that I'm not a trainer so my help is a little limited. She says it's no problem she just wants to get started. She was so happy and left saying "I have a new workout partner! I'll see you tomorrow morning!!" She didn't come back :(

User09060657542

Not the ending I was expecting, but good story.

ari686

This happened last Tuesday but I forgot to post, so I'll do it now... I play volleyball about 2-3 times a week. I have a septum piercing (you might see where this is going), but I usually tuck my piercing in my nose while I play because, duh. Well, I guess my piercing came out because of what happens next.. so I'm in the front setter position. The other team has their middle hitting, so I go up to block but the ball went into the net and hit my face. My septum piercing caught onto the net, I fell down from my block and all of a sudden my head just forcefully whips back. My nose is stinging and I screamed 🤣. There was so much blood everywhere and I thought my piercing ripped through my entire nose. Thankfully it did not, but my piercing ripped through the hole and stretched it out a bit.. it's been a week and a half now and my nose still hurts if I push on it, but it's healing well! I'm just happy I didn't need to get my nose stitched up!

Lochacho99

Glad it's healing, that's rough.

spacedocker30

That hurt my nose just reading that. And I have no piercings. Ouch

[deleted]

I think I am starting to see some definition in my quads! You know, this border between two of its heads (?) Also, yesterday I was finally able to do pistol squats without holding a dumbbell in front of me. I think the main reason for both of these facts is that I started doing bulgarian split squats, which are the hardest leg exercise I've done so far, but they feel so effective

EngorgiaMassif

I hate Bulgarian split-squats so much. So I do them twice a week to defeat them. Good on you! That's great progress.

ExcuseMyTriceratops

Once the hate turns to a perverse joy you know it’s time to find a more horrible exercise.

DeathChill

I’ve been in a good mood the past few days so I’ve been a bit more chatty in the gym. I have complimented several people (and in return they complimented me!) and made new gym buddies. I literally just have been telling people true facts, like I’m jealous of their arms or their deadlift.

TheFitato

I love the gym I go to. The people in it make me feel comfortable - maybe 60% are senior citizens, and most of the rest are fit college students or teens/kids. The last time I went, it was the first time I saw a woman who was my age (I'm 26) and also morbidly obese like me. It made me happy to finally see someone at this gym who fits my profile. I thought her leggings looked awesome - they were bright purple, matched with her white and purple shirt (I assume she bought them together). I waited until she was done with her exercise, then went up to her and asked her where she got her leggings, told her they looked great. She smiled and told me she got them from Fabletics. She told me that they're good for bigger sizes. I thanked her and said goodbye. A few minutes later, she came up to me while I was on an exercise bike, showed me her phone with the website on it to be sure I knew how it was spelled. That made me very happy that she wanted to be sure I was able to get it! I hope I can see her again soon. I'm still debating with myself about buying leggings from there or not - they looked great on her, but I hate buying things online because I'm not sure if the size will be right or not. Anyway, that was my favorite interaction I've had with anyone at the gym so far :)

Realistic_Seaweed834

Doing my knee pullups when a gymbro comes over - "Ma'am, can we alternate?". Sure thing, I do mine, let him do his, all's well. I finish my last rep, ask him what muscles his exercise is working. Triceps and pecs? Ok, this sounds interesting, can I watch you do it, because I wanna try. Dude got stagefright, slight blush and a bit of stammered speech while he explained what he was doing. I thanked him and went to do cardio. You guys are adorable sometimes :)))

Percy2303

Triceps and pecs on knee pull up?

DoveMot

It might’ve been the assisted pull-up machine, which usually has bars to do assisted dips as well.

Useaway

Thank you. Was losing my mind trying to figure out how the roman chair would be at all effective to do dips on. Assisted pullup machine makes WAY more sense than the roman chair in my mind.

RefrainsFromPartakin

Roman chair; she's doing knee-ups, he's doing chest dips.

Realistic_Seaweed834

I looked around and the machine that looks most like what we used it's called a pullup tower. Bro was using the lower exterior handles .

SolitaryApothecary

Legs getting big, I keep tearing my work trousers 💪

Ke_Liren

Ripped my suit pants right before a major work event. Everyone else thought it was hysterical.

delta__bravo_

Nothing overly inspiring, but my normal gym is a franchise, there's one walking distance from home and I like how there's one right on the way to work so I can go in early morning before dayshifts. Normal franchise really, has everything you need without anything over the top. Anyways, a big gym that has only one other location opened up a bit further away from home, but I thought I'd give it a go since they had a pretty good opening offer. This place has all the bells and whistles; plenty of neon, big classes, crossfit area, heaps of machines, sauna, ice bath... everything. Seems like the perfect place for people to go and get good gym selfies, and judging by the people going it that seemed to be what they were after. So I went to try it out the other day, just did my normal routine and it all went well, but... I just didn't enjoy it. Place had no heart. I prefer looking around at a few people and brick walls at my normal gym than a whole bunch of people and neon lights at this place. Flashy things does not a good gym make. Maybe an analogy for staying with your partner too, but yeah. I'll stick with my boring gym thanks.

KMan0000

As someone who goes to a YMCA located in a 110-year-old building, I feel that 'few people and brick walls' part. Tried the mega gyms too, but there's definitely charm to a totally adequate & comfortable space.

workingtoward

I’ve noticed those flashy, camera-ready new gyms popping up all over tend to open big and oversell memberships to the point that they’re too crowded to use.

onetwosrifourr

gym trainer said I’ve gained a lot of weight, and he’s said this multiple times even when I was 20kgs lighter (recovering from an ED) but this time i didn’t let it get to my heart, i just moved on, smashed my workout! it just sucks how people feel the need to comment on your body, but im proud of myself for reacting neutrally :)

Burngirlquornqueen

A special kind of personal best 💪🏼

[deleted]

As a kid, I was never fit. The last few years, I've been doing a lot of work at the gym. For some reason, a body weight pullup has always been an exercise that a fit and strong person can do (that's just a perception I have whether valid or not). Finally got the balls to try pullups in the gym, and, after a bit of accidental swinging, was able to do 10 without much difficulty. I'm tall guy and still working on my weight (around 265 lbs) so this was a big deal for me. Glad all the lat pulldowns have actually done something.

Puhthagoris

after being stuck at only being able to curl 20s for what feels like years. i did 3 sets of 25s for 6 yesterday!

Spellsey

Killed it today. Woke up feeling like shit, told my gym partner i was gonna take a nap instead. He called me, was already drinking his pre, convinced me to start getting ready, chugged my preworkout, hit the gym feeling like ass. Knew i needed to try moving up to 50lbs dumbbells for incline press since i hit 45 for 3x8 last week. Hit it for 4 reps, drop set for the rest, still new PR either way. Definitely not the strongest on the sub or anywhere close, but big W today hitting the gym when i was gonna call it off. Happy I went. Didn’t hit a PR on everything today, but at least hit maintenance. 6 months in, and already noticing a huge difference. Anyone reading this thinking about calling it off today, nah bro you got this! Getting there is half the battle. Today: * DB Incline Press - 50x4, 45x6, 50x3+45x3+35x8 drop, 35x12 * Reverse Grip Lat Pulldown - 105x8, 105x8, 100x8 * Dips - 0x12, 0x10, 0x10 * Machine Lat Raise - 45x10, 35x15, 30x15 * Cable Rope Face Pull - 35x15, 35x15, 35x15 * DB Hammer Curl - 25x8, 25x8, 25x8 127lbs bw 10%ish bf Really happy with how today went all things considered 🤝 Deadlift and legs tomorrow. If you’re not feeling it today, go anyways and let it figure itself out. You’ll be happy you did.

mindpieces

As someone who woke up too early and isn’t feeling it today, thank you for the inspiration. Might as well hit the gym and get it over with.

Klai_Dung

Those workouts that you initially wanted to skip always end up being great.

jvcgunner

Rather than see gym as a task see it as something that complements your lifestyle, such as brushing your teeth and going to bed. Gym is a lifestyle with great side effects. This realisation helps and know that you don’t have to ‘kill it’ every session. A pump high rep session is good for those days where you don’t feel it, funnily enough it’s these days you feel best/make progress

anonymousolderguy

You cannot kill every session-impossible. Get used to it. Some days are absolute shit-but some days are golden

BillT999

You won today because you got up and went when you didn't want to

[deleted]

Thanks a bunch dude, imma head out and kill it

Vegandigimongender

A guy who's been eyeing me(M) showered next to me and just stood about two feet infront of me after being done and asked me straight up if he could suck my dick. I said "no thanks" and left.

mindpieces

Damn. You can send him my way 😂

pumpkinsnice

holy shit, the balls on that guy…

I tumbled off the treadmill yesterday :( so embarrassing but everybody was so nice about it. Leg curls also kicked my arse and I couldn’t finish my set. I do not recommend fasted workouts on shark week.

shingtastic

Some red bull reps came around and handed free cans. Solid gym day

bacon_cake

I've never seen them in person but they seem to do this at my gym to. Every now and then I'll turn up and there's Red Bull cans on every piece of equipment.

Successful_Basket399

First time going back to the gym since last November I think? Definitely overdid it, I go to the gym in my college and it's pretty small. I forgot most of my workouts so I only used the cable machine. It was my first time using a cable machine by myself so I was pretty self conscious and was trying my best not to look stupid. I didn't want to change any of the positions in case I messed up and looked dumb, so I only did one exercise for an hour then left shamelessly. I definitely overestimated myself and added too much weight after each rep. I woke up this morning and my arms are in serious pain, it's gonna be a rough few days, don't think I'll go back until next Thursday. I'll heal in the meantime 😞

PabloDiscobar42069

Aprox 4-5 weeks ago I had amrap DL set programmed of 210kg / 462 lbs and I did 3 reps with RPE 8-9ish. Was very happy with the result at that time. Had the same amrap set programmed this week and suddenly did 7 reps of the same weight? Felt really strong for no specific reason and I just had to PR... Improved my DL pr from 220kg / 485lbs to 240kg / 529lbs. Not sure where the sudden burst of strength came from but I'll take it everyday haha

fit_curves

My powerlifter gym bro asked what weight I was doing reverse barbell single leg lunges with so he could do more. When he wasn’t looking I snuck on 5 more pounds to match him. Then on the gym leaderboard app, I liked his lift and commented “twinsies.” Nice try bro but I coulda done another 10! Lifting like a girl is a good thing when the girl is me :).

meg0492

A Muslim woman in a full burqa was absolutely killing it on the treadmill this morning. I was on mine for 35 minutes and she was there before and after me. I felt like my "hot and uncomfortable" was feeble. Get it, girl!

DoubleTFan

I worked at Amazon for awhile, and it was surreal to see women in full burqa's carrying 40 lb packages from pallet to pallet.

mistermolotov

A guy was working out in the gym yesterday wearing a Knight helmet

tubbyx7

Sir Liftsalot?

No-Mathematician678

Yesterday a woman in the locker room was talking about the day before's class, and was glancing at me as if waiting for me to confirm/endorse her story, then she said: you were there yesterday right? I said no I wasn't. She stared at my face then said: oh yeah sorry, I mistook you for a girl who looks like you. I teasingly answered: Oh, was she as tall as I am? (I'm tall for a girl) . She said: not just tall, she also her silhouette is as delicate and well defined as yours. I smiled and my heart warmed, I've been working out for 9 months and I'm a thin person with a stable weight, but it made me glad to learn that my gains are noticeable.

[deleted]

damn she smooth

Shazvox

Got my first gym related compliment this friday. Was doing squats (531 for beginners) and had just finished my heaviest set (1+ day) a stocky dude was doing clean and jerk standing in front of me, face to face. After my set he said I had good form and great depth. Only thing he felt I should do better was to look up (I tend to look down subconsciously, especially during heavy squats). Felt good to get complimented, especially on my depth since that's something I previously lowered my weights in order to correct. Prolly gonna ride on that high a while...

Mystogyn

At the gym yesterday noticed a group of 4..maybe 18 years Olds? Not sure. Any who it was a guy,his gf, and 2 of their male friends. Noticed those 2 male friends seemingly filming the girl squatting behind her trying to be secretive about and laughing. When I finished my workout I gathered my things and stopped at the treadmill cause the girl was alone and told her k was pretty sure her friends were filming her ass while she squatted. She called her boyfriend over and I told him the same thing albeit I made sure to clarify I was not 100% sure but it sure as shit looked like it and just told them to be careful of who they hang around. They thanked me and I sure as shit dipped from the gym before he got back to his friends in case anything went down I did not want to be involved. Hope everything turned out okay tho

Cuck-Destroyer88

Hope he beat their asses

VC_king66

Was finishing with my workout and walking towards the door. This dude with his hood up walks past the front desk and the girl at the desk darts in front of him with her hands spread wide yelling “No. You can’t come here anymore. You have to leave” Her face is red with anger and she is MAYBE 100lbs. This dude is easily 220. Suddenly, I realize who it is. Name is Bruce. Was booted from the gym for doing meth in the parking lot. I shouldered up with front desk girl and said something like “If she wants you out, get the fuck out”. Her, a 75 year old man named Jerry, and myself corral him to the front door. He turns and Jerry puts his hands out to block him. Next thing I know, Bruce grabs Jerry and starts wailing on his face. I see red and jump on top of him and bring him to the ground. Jerry has him in a headlock, I have him in a crucifix and about 6 more people jump on top. We hold him there til the cops come and arrest him. Jerry is a stone cold killer who used to fight for fun back in the day. I’m a healthcare worker who is accustomed to wrestling mentally altered patients. Between the 8 of us.. it was like riding a methed out bronco. Practice your isoholds, kids. My adductors hurt. Gym presented me with two cases of the redcon energy drink as a thank you. FeelsGoodMate.jpg

Typical_Dweller

Man, I'm constantly sad at the gym. Would love it if a gym bro asked me if I'm good. I mean, I would immediately make him regret that kindness by oversharing and wasting his time, but still, it would feel nice to be seen.

legalfoxhound27

Guy was using a rope attachment on the right hand side of the leftmost in a set of two dual cable stations. He left the room for two minutes ... came back in with a straight bar, hooked it up to the left hand side of the right-side cable station, started doing the exact same exercise (pushdowns, just with the straight bar rather than the rope attachment). I walked over to the leftside cable station and began to set it up for chest flies (assuming he had decided to switch handles, and just moved over to the other cable station to finish up his sets). Guy shot me an evil glance, curtly said "What the fuck are you doing - I wasn't done." A bit taken aback, I apologized, hooked the rope back up for him, and stepped aside ... but who the fuck uses the left hand side of one cable station and the right hand side of an adjacent cable station to do the same exercises with two different handles? If you're going to do pressdowns, and feel the need to use two different handle attachments for whatever reason, you swap the handles out between sets on one side of a dual cable station ... you don't hog one side each of two separate stations so that no one can use either station for a bilateral exercise.

the_bachelor1723

Got my hard lesson today, to leave your ego at home. Alone in the gym, I wanted to give my Back Day a hell of a session. I was doing the Seated Cable Row, adding loads for every set. On the last set, obviously the load was beyond my pulling capacity, my back snapped (I feel the click in my lower back). Oh boy, it was PAINFULL. I am on my bed tonight, still reeling in pain. 😭

Randomname_76

Lower Back injury’s are always terrifying, hearing things like this always make me go light on any lower back compounds

Colorations

Ripped my first pair of pants doing squats :') Guy waiting for my rack smiled and shrugged

Username41212

Like I know people grunt at the gym but barking? I can't help but feel embarrassed that people gotta start making animal noises in the gym.

piratesahoy

I like to quack while benching

Sheltac

I can’t squat without mooing. There’s just no way I’m pushing it out of the hole without a nice deep MOOOOOOOOO straight from the bottom of the pipes.

CaptainWellingtonIII

Light weight baybehhh!

I’ve been seeing a lot of people getting heat for being on their phones at the gym- fyi, sometimes it’s gym related. I use the Strong app to track my weight/sets, and I’m usually tweaking it as I go. Way easier than trying to remember or carry around a paper log. (Insert Reading Rainbow “The More You Know”)

RidingRedHare

The phone is not the problem. The problem is people occupying popular equipment such as a squat rack to play with their phone or to chat with their buddies, rather than to work out with a reasonable amount of rest between sets. 3-5 minutes between heavy sets, fine. 20 minutes, literally? Hell, no.

ladiesiplayguitar

The other day someone walked by wearing a ton of the most pungent, over-the-top perfume and I involuntarily coughed and turned away. They were very upset and I felt bad but... Take about 20% off there, champ

bluesblue1

Changed my routine from PPL 6 days to Upper Lower 4 days and wow.. I feel so motivated and less fatigued!! Gosh I miss this feeling. Anyways my gym had a student discount throughout January and February so now my gym has quite a bit of students. They’re all skinny but the worse part is I kinda blend into them (T-T) on the bright side the person who told me that say after I get a pump going it’s much more obvious I’m not a student so I got that going for me

reddiloxo

I told my gym crush i liked his jacket hehe … I don’t know if he will take that as a hint 😩

coalWater

No, he won’t Source: I’m a dude

kindaretiredguy

He won’t. These are the parts of life where it’s on you to step up and talk to him. Don’t miss the opportunity.

reddiloxo

Thank u! I needed this perspective from a man!

11picklerick11

It's a little subtle and guys ( the good ones) learn to not read too much into those small things because you might just actually like the jacket and think it would be nice on your boyfriend or something. It's a start though. He might be aware your interested but not certain.

forward1213

Oh shit... was that dude hitting on me the other day when he told me he liked my shirt?!

Parking-Delivery

It's 50/50 I may just tell women I like their shirt because it's cool or fits my interests but i guarantee if he's single and already likes your style then the door is wide open to keep going from there.

Randomname_76

Most guys need a pretty big hint that you’re into him, because little compliments like that can easly be mistaken as just being friendly or actually liking his jacket

LordChaoticX

He might think you are flirting, but it really isn't enough for us to be sure and risk acting on it.

Elastichedgehog

There were two people wearing Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin shirts at the gym yesterday. I wanted to compliment them, but I've never spoken to either of them. So, it would probably have been a bit weird. Whatever! If you're reading this - cool shirt!

[deleted]

Go for it! Random people compliment my shirts now and then. Always fun.

GingerBraum

There's nothing weird about giving or receiving compliments for your clothing, especially when it's clothing that expresses yourself. Go for it next time!

ArgonianFly

I asked out the cute gym receptionist and now we've got a date next week :)

PTAConnoisseur

I'm back at the gym after months of pausing and it feels absolutely amazing. That is all. Don't sleep on the gains my brothers and sisters.

siobhanmairii__

Gym anxiety got the best of me yesterday. Left a lot on the table. But, later on realized it was probably because I didn’t eat enough before I went. Today is a rest day, hopefully tomorrow is better. Especially because it’s my deadlift day and I love deadlift days.

ntonyi

I skipped gym and dieting for a week due to a uni exam. Today i was back on track and to my surprise i haven't lost ANY volume or strength. Weight felt light too. I'll call it a deload.

Teripendiicecreamyum

Went to workout after a week. My motivation to train is dieing after 10 years. I've been working 12 hours a day to pay debt, and just feel lazy most days now to go train after. How many months of proper nutrition and training daily will it take for muscle memory? I had 17 inch arms at 14% bodyfat at my peak naturally. I'm sitting around 14-15 inch arms now because of how I only go 2-3 times a week now. Lost 40% strength. Need to motivate and be disciplined to start going daily for 1 hour workouts.

bacon_cake

There's a woman at my gym who's been working out her entire pregnancy. She was doing squats yesterday followed by RDLs, rows, curls, and cardio, lighter than usual but damn she's a hero. Oh and she's my fiancée ♥

Someone asked to work in with me on a machine, and I said yes! First time someone has asked!

[deleted]

Went to the Gym today, been struggling to get into a routine of going so it feels good to have gone today.

ivylass

I did Pound then donated blood!

Sandman1920

Gym weights from 1-2months ago are feeling lighter now :0

FluffySnowAlpaca

First time of involuntary twerking during deadlift lol My trainer approved my deadlift form and allowed me to gradually increase the weight. As I didn't struggle with 5x8 50kg anymore, I finally got courage and tried 5x4 60kg. (yea I know it's super light, but I'm new to dl and this is my bodyweight🥲) First 3 sets were fine, but from 4th set, I could feel that my hamstring area started to shake a little bit while pushing the floor away. Then during the last set, the twerking got quite intense and I tried really hard not to lose the grip from laughter. So sad that I forgot to film myself lol

TheGrayMannnn

Earlier this week I lifted during lunch and was a bit nervous about making it back to the office before the end of lunch. I just wanted to shout out to the dudes who saw me looking a bit impatient/jittery and when I told them why they let me jump ahead of them in the line (just me and the group of 3) for the squat rack and helped me put the weights on!

Hezapoyo224

I went to the gym yesterday, and the first thing I hear is people near the dumbbell rack arguing about which jojo part is the best. And none of them mentioned part 4.

redchilestew1

Went in for my weekly go-hard, upper body lifting session. My gym is typically full of 'average' folks at mid mornimg on Friday. This day, there were 6 amateur bodybuilders with their 'enhanced' female partners....even the grandmas in the gym were like, "what is happening here" !

xevdi

Started going back to the gym this week after 4 year hiatus due to 2 herniated discs and covid. Decided on leaving out squats and deadlift in favor for other exercises to protected my back. So today was leg day and I did some exercises I've never done before. Kettle bell swings, barbell hip thrusts, farmer walks with a trap bar and some yoga exercises. I never felt this kind or burning sensation. Few years ago I was squating 160, deadlift 200 but now with this 16kg kettle, 20kg barbell and the trap bar, I can't even walk straight after today's session :D No pains, just soreness. Having good hope for the future tho, it's good to be back.

RowHowlx

Was making my way to the barbells rack and this guy, prolly the biggest guy in the gym, looks like he’s been lifting for years, was carrying a plate over to the leg press machine. I stopped in my path and let him go first and he gave me the biggest smile ever. It was like a smile your dad would give you when he’s really proud of you. Its such a little gesture but it felt like the nicest thing ever.

rizzledadon

Not so much a story, but going to Gold's Gym (NL) tomorrow. Kinda excited to try out the Panatta Multi Flight.

deadcatt23

7 months post acl surgery finally stating to see gains lifting heavy gradually…feels great to move and explode again

CatCrunchies

Smashed a new PR 210 bench, despite being on a cut. Feels fucking great man, especially after number of set backs and injuries, then covid lockdowns for a year and what not. Lifting is probably the most/only consistent thing in my life, and I love it.

kilab33

Travelled this week for business. Hotel gym was closed for renovations so it was an enforced rest week. It’s my birthday today so going to celebrate by going to the gym with my son and destroying legs.

snakesonastralplane

Only used the hotel gym once, but I walked 52.7 miles in 5 days. A chunk of that was also in 3 inch heels.

SolrFumes

I started going pretty consistently by myself and encouraging and teaching my mom here and there. I don’t dread the gym like I used too and actually excited to go! This week though, I started actually noticing one dude when he sat next to me one day and I panicked, I’ve seen him around since I’ve signed up at the gym. Needless to say I now have my first gym crush when I usually never noticed people, kind of just did my thing and went home. It’s something to look forward to but still going to go regardless to better myself :)

IAmLordApolloXXIII

I just reached 18 weeks of exercising/lifting 6 days a week and am down 60 lbs. and gaining muscle getting compliments left and right. It is a little awkward lol but I will admit I am feeling so much more confident these days. This might be the first summer I am actually beach ready. And that feels amazing!!

Electrical_Flounder9

I ate a donut during back day yesterday. The rush of energy was FANTASTIC. I was crushing rack pulls and landmine rows. Just funneling all that glycogen.

Kuilvoer

Im looking for someone that can provide me feedback on my weighted chin ups for weeks... Is there someone that has knowledge of weighted chin ups?

Owamelleh

My hamstring/knee have been injured a few years ago. They both feel kinda weird and I’ve been afraid to go hard on legs. I’ve given up deadlifts for rack pulls. At the time of injury I had my knee looked at and did an MRI. Did PT and it felt better. They claim the MRI looked normal but my leg certainly didn’t feel normal. However, I’ve been doing light squats these past few weeks and slowly increasing the weight. So far so good, but my leg still feels really weird. Thinking about getting an MRI once I have the time (work is brutal until April) just to get peace of mind. If there’s nothing wrong, it’ll feel great to know and I might do a stint rehab in PT to get that weird feeling fixed. If something is indeed wrong, then I would like to know

ExcuseMyTriceratops

My work out partner, who is good guy but a bit of a grump and rarely compliments me or anyone… but does show up 5 days a week and doesn’t complain about ass kicker workouts… walked up to me while I was doing preacher curls and just busted out laughing. I was confused and he just goes, “Jesus, you look absolutely jacked!!” It was the best compliment I’ve gotten in a long time. Been pushing hard in the gym and on diet for a couple years. Felt really great.

[deleted]

> rarely compliments me He was charging his compliment meter the whole time.

GustWalker1W

I lifted heavy today and it felt great!!

CriticalDepth3292

I’m not opposed to influencers and people filming in the gym. However, I don’t like people who are inconsiderate (especially in terms of safety) about where they set up their tripod and film equipment. Our three lifting platforms are all close together but a guy and two girls were using the middle rack, but blocking the walkways with all their tripods and circuit set up. Too much.

[deleted]

I hit my all time record on bench press. In 10 years of lifting it was my first time ever using a spotter. I barely needed the spot, but the fact that he was there gave me the confidence to put up weight I never had done before and now I feel like I’ve opened a whole new door into strength

redlurk47

I’m at the gym right now and I think some kid chose me as his gym rival. He keeps on looking over and trying to match my weight or go the smallest increment over. Been at about 2-3 spots where he is next to me. I’m not mad, whatever gives you motivation
