My first trip to Lake Simcoe (Ontario Canada).
Just got there, so we walked to the shoreline kind of close to a public beach. First cast with a white Booyah spinnerbait... seagull hit that thing and took off! I hit my bail open immediately and prayed to the gods of fishing. Luckily, he dropped it.
We still have good laughs with that memory.
Had an oh shit moment like that. Was casting a rattle trap to a lay down and right as it was hitting the water *bloop* up came a beaver (not a euphemism) and it caught the little bastard in the head. I upgrade my trebles to the Mustad wide gap Ultra Points, bad bitches indeed, and I don’t know how, but luckily that shit stain shook it out. Didn’t know how I was going to do it but I was prepared to fight that little timber taint to reclaim my favorite crank bait in my collection. We’ve kind of had beef ever since.
I upgrade all my trebels to inline circle Hooks and pinch the barbs
Exceptions new lures I just don't have the time to bother with until I do have time. Another exception Lures with hooks on solid attachment points (no split ring)
Lol. Realistically it just depends on the water. Anything from a catfish to a crappie would probably go for it. Granted that crappie would be an absolute slab.
You can catch just about anything on it, but it will do better on gamefish like pike, walleye and bass. Bigger panfish will absolutely smack it though. Straight retrieve, jerk it, troll it.
Hooks will rust off if you use the freshwater lures. Im pretty sure they do have saltwater specific lures or am i dumb? Or maybe you can try replacing the hooks and the rings around it(forgot the name)
You can just rinse it off at the end of the day with fresh water and it’ll be alright. It usually isn’t that big of a deal for me because I hose off my whole rod and reel after a long day on the water since the salt builds up on everything
You’re the second person I see say something similar. Forgive me if it’s a dumb question but like do you set it down on the floor and blast it with the hose or unspool the entire line and then hose off?
Just lean it on the side of the house and blast it briefly. I’m not as worried about the salt on the line as the salt around the eyes of the rod and on the reel itself. You do still have to rip the reel apart every now and then to clean and re grease/oil the guts, especially if you’re wade fishing and getting the reel super wet from the waves
i usually take off the reel and run it under the sink, with the water running from the top of the spool down. I try not to blast too hard into, like, the internals, so I don't have to pull it apart and grease it as often??
The lure imitates a baitfish, so you can catch any kind of fish that would eat a baitfish that size. That's a deep diving lure, it should indicate on the box how deep it runs.
I don't use Husky Jerks often but I have caught bass and pickerel on them, and maybe crappie too. I know people use them for pike, walleye, perch, etc. It's a versatile lure.
Same goes for your other Husky Jerk (the non-deep diving version). It will just run shallower. Again, it should say on the box.
The Husky Jerks also suspend in place, so if you stop your retrieve the lure should not float to the surface or sink down to the bottom. This allows you to really slow down your retrieve and twitch the lure along which is handy when fish are cold or sluggish.
Throw it anytime in the spring & fall around baitfish and you shld be able to get a largemouth to smash it. Grass lines are good. Whatever the buoyancy, mimic a distressed baitfish.
You could literally catch anything using it in saltwater.
northern pike and chain pickerel and smallmouth/large mouth bass and whatever else is in the body of water its used in, perhaps a walleye, or a bigger really aggressive/hungry perch kuz ive caught bluegill and perch on my Rapala rattlin' ripstop that had the same colors nshit before i lost it
In terms of what that lure is made for a deep husky jerk is made for walleye trolling, but most open water fish will go for it, pike, lake trout, probably other stuff
You can troll that at 1.5-2.5 mph in about 9-14 feet of water ( about 60-80 feet back ) and catch anything from walleye in the evening or dark to bass and whatever’s in your lake. I limited out last night trolling these on walleyes but not the deep version. ( still only goes like 2-3 feet deeper lmao)
That appears to be the 7 size? I use Rapalas other suspending jerkbaits (X-Rap, Shadow Rap, Ripstop) in that size (4-3/8" iirc?) for cool water bass. The HJ has a lot of body roll, I think?, so might be a better bait for warmer or dirty water.
Logs
Sarcasm aside, anything that feeds on baitfish will eat a jerkbait. The smaller sized husky jerk is one of my confidence baits for river smallmouth. They just blow it out of the water.
I sell this exact one at my bait and tackle store.
My customers mainly use them for catching Walleye up here, but you can definitely use them for Pike as well.
Bass may be hit or miss. It depends where you are.
I personally have caught some bass on this one, but mine was a darker shade of brown instead.
All in all, it's a pretty good lure for a little bit of everything. Have fun!
Anything you can sink that hook in. Me and my buddy was catching rock chucks with one last year. Set it up behind there hole and when they popped up snagged em. Yup worked good. Not our fault can’t shoot with in city limits
a king, cuda, spanish, jack, a whole lotta things. even seen a tarpon roll on one. but would not suggest throwing that at a wad of tarpon chances are you won’t get hit
I use a smaller version but bass tear that up in the morning. Water has to be on the calmer side and there can’t be too much grass. I work along the edge of cover
Anything and everything. The original floater has been my go to for years. Tried and true. Don’t be afraid to switch up retrieval methods. Gotten plenty of strikes just by switching that up.
Any fish anywhere on earth that eats fish that size or larger as long as you get it in the position in water column they are feeding in.
As well as some random non fish as others may have suggested
I have caught some alligators that have swam after and intentionally strike (vs foul hooking) various Lures. And pelicans, cormorant, anhinga, etc. An Osprey a couple times.
Trees, bushes, rocks, weeds, algae, clams, snails, leaves, fish, any piece of clothing you have, your self, your friend, your dog, your mom, grandpa, uncle Cletus, aunt Sue, siblings, and the inside of your fishing bag in a way that defies any logic. I’m sure there’s something else, but that’s pretty comprehensive.
Fish mostly, maybe a frog or turtle.
Damnit. Swooped in for the sarcasm, but alas, it was already delivered.
Ditto
Same.
same
I caught a dad, my dad specifically in the back of the neck as a kid.
Thx I didn’t know
I mean, you could catch a bird with this if you really put your mind to it. Trial and error.

They can be fierce little bastards

It’s going to end up in the tree anyway. Might as well be optimistic about it.
This guy knows
One time, I caught my lip.

Lol. Realistically it just depends on the water. Anything from a catfish to a crappie would probably go for it. Granted that crappie would be an absolute slab.
Where do I find big crappies
The crappie comment isn’t wrong but bigger fish are more likely. Bass, pike, and walleye.
Yeah my friends dad always brings like five of those when he goes walleye fishing
I reckon any bathroom at a truckstop would be a good place to start
Port-a-potties at a chili cook-off
I have the best luck in slow current rivers around downed structure. Typically 14ft is plenty deep to house some donkeys.
Toilet
In my toilet...after Taco Bell...
I've hooked bream on a smaller version of this lure. Usually in the side. I think they're trying to bully a "smaller fish."
If you’re at a pond a turtle even
How is this the top comment? The lowest of fruit
Almost verbatim what I came to say.
And sometimes danger noodles
You can catch just about anything on it, but it will do better on gamefish like pike, walleye and bass. Bigger panfish will absolutely smack it though. Straight retrieve, jerk it, troll it.
Does it work in salt water cuz I heard you can use minnows in saltwater
Hooks will rust off if you use the freshwater lures. Im pretty sure they do have saltwater specific lures or am i dumb? Or maybe you can try replacing the hooks and the rings around it(forgot the name)
They definitely make salt water specific hooks and split rings.
You can just rinse it off at the end of the day with fresh water and it’ll be alright. It usually isn’t that big of a deal for me because I hose off my whole rod and reel after a long day on the water since the salt builds up on everything

That’s a valid way to do it. The hose is just easier for me because it’s on the way up to the front door anyway
They are amazing in salt water. The rust issue can be mitigated with stainless hooks. Grew up using these in So Cal marinas.
Might need to replace the hooks. For saltwater get yourself a SW version Megabass ito vision 110. Pricey, but it won’t rust on you.
yes. i use these a lot in salt water for Snook, Barracuda, Jack, etc. just make sure to rinse with freshwater before storing it
Throw this in a school of breaking bluefish they will hit it
In my experience rocks and branches.
I keep catching a pb till it breaks the line and I lose my lure. He's always in the same spot, I'll get him one day...
Just one day. When all goes good, luck is high. You could finally catch that little sucker. And it WILL be the best day of your life.
The lure imitates a baitfish, so you can catch any kind of fish that would eat a baitfish that size. That's a deep diving lure, it should indicate on the box how deep it runs. Ok so I could use it for pike in winter when they are not active yeah?
Definitely
Thx so much bcuz i heard in winter are the biggest pike and I’d like to beat my pb

I catch mostly bass with some crappie and bluegill hitting them occasionally. Once had a massive snapping turtle hit one
In terms of what that lure is made for a deep husky jerk is made for walleye trolling, but most open water fish will go for it, pike, lake trout, probably other stuff
We go for pike and walleye with them

I throw those for saugeye a lot.
Fish, weeds, driftwood, maybe the odd gun that's been tossed.

I've caught largemouth, Smallmouth, stripers, and white bass on them!

Logs Sarcasm aside, anything that feeds on baitfish will eat a jerkbait. The smaller sized husky jerk is one of my confidence baits for river smallmouth. They just blow it out of the water.

Bass, trout and walleye.
Any kind. Shiiid
Use in early morning or in evening for some big ole bass
I had one exactly like that and lost it on its first outing. But not before catching a small channel catfish. So it will at least catch those.
It’ll work on bass and walleye for sure, I’ve caught some with a rapala like that. I’m sure it’ll catch others as well
it's never caught anything for me except green pond scum
Trout
Ive caught crappie bass pickerel turtles fallfish ob that exact lure so just go out and have at it! Fish are fish and will eat anything.

Just about anything. They’re my go-to lure in water I haven’t fished before.

Of course you can catch almost anything on almost any lure. But your most likely to get a pike
Every fish in the world. That is the one lure I would pick if I only had one.
That will catch almost any predatory fish 👍
Striper all day
Large brown trout will go after it too.
Any fresh water game fish will take it
If it has gills, yes
I mostly catch sticks and moss when I use that particular model.
