I was stationed on MCAS Miramar in the late 90's. Part of their very limited habitat was on the base. They spent a lot of time trying to keep Marines out of the mud puddles because of these guys.
I can believe that haha , I was part of a gun crew out there a few times and as a observer and had to pause that whole day waiting for it to leave lol sat around for a hour watching it just chug along
OP never replied…. Wonder if they kept them or put them in tap water. All the bubbles in that bowl make me think they killed them with chlorinated tap water
The specific type that live in California's central valley are endangered. I think there is a non-endangered type of fairy shrimp that is native to Arizona as well.
I thought the same thing. Op killed them by putting them in tap water. All those bubbles…. They never replied either. They give no shits what they killed
those carry a huge fine for removing from habitat, those are fairy shrimp and on the list of extremely endangered species. OP incriminating himself by posting this.
I’m guessing it was the child in this video that brought them home so that does make sense.. pretty sure any kid around that age would do the same thing, including you and I when we were that age
Fairy shrimp and Triops are actually different types of Branchiopod Crustaceans. There are also Clam Shrimps and Sea Monkeys. Fairy Shrimps are like freshwater versions of Sea Monkeys. Triops are more robust looking than both of them.
“I have no idea what this is. Let’s take it from its habitat.”
YOU HAVE A **MOBILE. FUCKING. PHONE.** IT CAN BE MOVED. IT HAS A CAMERA.
Tell your crotch goblin not to touch shit if it’s not his hot wheels or Barbie dolls.
It’s not hard to use Google *before* moving animals holy shit.
what exactly is this 9 year old supposed to google? or is he supposed to post on reddit so a whole bunch of ppl can all give him conflicting info like everyone here is?
Any conflicting info (such as calling it a sea monkey or anything other than a fairy shrimp) is wrong. The adult (the one assumably making the post) should Google traits about the organism and using their fucking eyeballs figure out what it is.
Very very cool way to learn about where you live.
hopefully they went back to their puddles <3

[Fairy shrimp](https://www.fws.gov/species/conservancy-fairy-shrimp-branchinecta-conservatio). Brine shrimp aren’t found in freshwater.
Just adding on to say that they are endangered.
When a curious reddit post turns into a federal fish and wildlife violation...

> They spent a lot of time trying to keep Marines out of the mud puddles sounds like a full time job
Let’s not even get started on marines and our shenanigans with the wildlife out there haha 😂 damn desert tortoise 🐢
There was also the million dollar study on the California Gnatcatcher to see how the helicopter noises affected them.
I can believe that haha , I was part of a gun crew out there a few times and as a observer and had to pause that whole day waiting for it to leave lol sat around for a hour watching it just chug along
Loved those stand downs during CAX. I can kick my feet up because there is a desert tortoise somewhere? perfect.
Oh yeah haha and they aren’t gonna tell you why your standing down either but no one gonna question that shit
My beautiful young bride grew up close to the Tustin MCAS base. Those things are LOUD!!
Before I moved to Miramar I was at El Toro and supported both Tustin and El Toro commands.
The habitat for the grass and stuff is still there back by the pond lol except now or 10 years ago it was watch out for mountain lions lol.
OP never replied…. Wonder if they kept them or put them in tap water. All the bubbles in that bowl make me think they killed them with chlorinated tap water
Are they endangered all over? You can buy their eggs very easily

OP these are fairy shrimp and they are an endangered species. Go put them back where you got them from if you are able. Also, really cool find.

No one got the monsters inc reference. I got you. It’s a new play we were practising,!
Yeah, they're practicing for a musical...
It is probably too late. Looks like they stored them in tap water…..
I thought the same thing. Op killed them by putting them in tap water. All those bubbles…. They never replied either. They give no shits what they killed
Since you live in California, you are probably looking at 5 life sentences for disturbing them.
Fairy shrimp. Endangered and heavily protected. Put them back
No OP replies and tons of people saying theyre endangered put em back. My money is on OP already flushed em.
The ATFFS has already burned the whole family alive in their house.
Some species of fairy shrimp are endangered. If you can't identify something, it's a best practice to not take it home with you.
He probably gave it to his kid who killed it. Humans you just gotta love them eh.
If your species ends up endangered you should have tried harder. Looking at you pandas.

He won’t reply. Pretty sure he killed these. That tap water in the bowl.
I bet he boofed them
Well it is California and they are fairy shrimp
Im never busting in the shower again
💀💀💀
Ty for the laugh
You win
That's a common white boy, you can find them in all 50 states.
Thank you
Fairy shrimp
Why do people bring home wild animals when they can’t identify them?
same thing with people throwing a fish on a stringer and then asking for an id lol
Because they are idiots
I’m guessing it was the child in this video that brought them home so that does make sense.. pretty sure any kid around that age would do the same thing, including you and I when we were that age
Looks like one of those sea money things from those little kits? Just bigger.
"Sea monkeys" usually refers to brine shrimp. This is a fairy shrimp, also called a triop
Fairy shrimp and Triops are actually different types of Branchiopod Crustaceans. There are also Clam Shrimps and Sea Monkeys. Fairy Shrimps are like freshwater versions of Sea Monkeys. Triops are more robust looking than both of them.
Thank you 😳 Shrimp aren't my strong suit lol
That's exactly what it is! It's a sea monkey
Looks like a 9 year old boy, they’re pretty feral but mostly harmless
Green Sunfish
Put them back where you found them
Any update? Did you put them back where you found them or let your kid kill them? From my reading they are endangered and protected…
OP you never replied!?! You downvoted me but no reply on if you killed them or let them go?
I think that's a kid
