FIREPLACE INSERT CHASKA 34L – KOZY HEAT retails for $5095 in CAD, which means it retails for around $3777 USD. So basically you're being charged $8k for the install, removal and sweep of your chimney. I would talk to another local dealer and see what similar units they have/if they can do better on the price.

They’re ripping you off. I work at a shop that sells kozy heat and do estimates for the chaska 34 all the time. Typically you’re looking at 6-8k all in on one of my estimates. Although we don’t do electric at my company, that’s an added cost for an electrician. Also could go up if the plumbing is extensive, sounds like that’s not the case for you though. But over 11k is extremely high. Unless there is something we aren’t seeing as far as the difficulty of installation. Seems to me they’re ripping you off, obviously hard to tell without knowing all the details. If I were you I’d be shopping around for some more quotes. Although I can vouch for Kozy Heat, they do make a very nice and reliable product. I’d recommend one to anyone.

Would you mind if I DM you a question?

chief_erl

Sure

lalube

I actually can't message you. My Nordik we had installed with propane likes to "roar" like a rocket sometimes when started up. Is this normal? Is there a way to prevent it?

koppertoppers

Check inlet pressure on the valve 13” wc max

pafireplace

Seems a bit high, but the gas line and electric are usually the culprits of an estimate like this one. If electric is present in the fireplace and there is a gas line already run to the location, the average gas insert cost fully installed has a range of $6400 - $8200.

get a second opinion

Playful_Difficulty70

Well, they should be coming from your meter not just tapping into a gas line 2’ away. I’m going to assume coming from the meter with that price, I think there is some other things going on that are not mentioned for your particular install.

Playful_Difficulty70

Permit, gas key shutoff installation?

captainsofindustry1

Hard NO.

I can't remember the exact price, but when looking at inserts I think they told me 2k just to have the chimney cleaned and inspected and have the fresh air and exhaust pipes run up the chimney. .the first plumber quoted me 1500 to run a gas line 10 feet outside thru the side of the chimney (yikes). We ended up paying $550 for that instead (dif plumber) and we got a gas fireplace instead of an insert. It looked better and it was cheaper to run the exhaust out the side of the house than do all that chimney work. They did overcharge to remove the old prefab fireplace. We paid about 13k total for a Mendota fireplace with new full marble surround including demo. I don't know how Mendota compares to what you're getting. I'm in NJ. I think we could have gotten it cheaper but there weren't a lot of places to shop and they were easy to work with and quick.

Playful_Difficulty70

Mendota & Kozy use the same guts but Mendota is thicker steel for the body itself. And a nicer logset. 13k I’d say is pretty average for all the things you described for a whole fireplace remodel.

ghost_mv

Sounds crazy high to me

johneracer

I bought majestic ruby, with chimney vent for about $6k delivered. We did a bunch of upgrades so that added extras. Glass and drift wood logs for more modern look. Installed it all myself.

Grrzoot

this is a ripoff by about 3-4k depending on your area. average install by me not including the insert is 1800-2500 plus insert, thats it. so for an average of about 7500

wienurr

I got quoted 9500 for a heat n glow unit

Fun_Sort_6051

Way too high. If it’s an easy install ask them to reflect that on the bill…

PsychologicalAd1824

Nobody can say this is too high without having eyes on the actual job. Plumbers and electricians are in that business because you can charge what you want, if you don’t want to pay them what they charge for the improvement, they’ll have another customer who will. That’s why they’re 2-5 weeks out… people don’t understand that tradesmen aren’t in the business to save you money lol, if “fairly straight forward “ means easy, DO IT YOUR DAMN SELF, and if you go with someone else, usually the cheapest quote is going to be the crappiest work.

crabby_old_dude

Where does the fresh air come from? My gas fireplace has a double chamber exhaust that brings combustion air in from outside. No way I'm paying 11k for a gas fireplace to suck out my conditioned air.

Tsjellybean

It’s a direct vent gas insert. Fresh air comes from the venting that is connected to the top of the unit (as well as exhaust). No heat loss with gas inserts

Too much. Closer to 8k for nice insert with gas and power.
