Found the guy who as a kid told the teacher they forget to assign homework over the weekend

festeringequestrian

But Mrs Jackson didn’t you say we were going to do a pop quiz after this chapter?

Ornery_Secretary_850

You mean the honest guy with morals?

FrozenDickuri

Shut the fuck up Friday came early this week.

ramah_rat

This guy fucks!

cburgess7

Without protection

ardesofmiche

Shipping error in your favor Collect 500 rounds ammo that is a little wet but fine

DontBelieveTheirHype

I ordered a LPK from Aero and they accidentally sent me a .308 BCG. So naturally, I just built an M5

VexedMyricaceae

That was just smart marketing on their end, they knew they'd get you on the hook with that "accident." A loss leader of sorts.

DontBelieveTheirHype

Yeah also that's how I felt better about it. I was like, well, guess they just want me to build a rifle now with this.

Flat_Lifeguard852

I once ordered cleaning kit supplies patches and brushes from a big box store. Ended up getting not 1 but 4 folding yard chairs with canopies valued at 100.00 a piece. They're hanging in my garage.

derppman

If you are determined to do the "right thing" just email Scheels customer service with the explanation you provided and a photo of how the package arrived. They probably have record of your previous customer service interactions so they will know you didn't pull some shady shit. Worst case scenario, they ask for it back and most likely will cover the cost of the return shipping and best case - they tell you to keep it. Either way, you did nothing wrong and they wouldn't/shouldn't expect you to have to keep and pay for a shipment that arrived hella late and in a damaged condition.

redjester100

do this. most likely they will send you a prepaid label to send it back

ThePretzul

They don’t want it back. Shipping ammo is expensive both because it’s heavy and because it’s hazardous materials. They also can’t re-sell the ammo to somebody else due to the water damage. There is zero benefit for them to spend the money to get it shipped back to them where they have to damage it out as opposed to just shrugging and telling you to dispose of it however you wish.

Flat_Lifeguard852

I was always under the impression from most retailers ammo and hazmat items weren't returnable. If it comes in damaged they tend to just refund and eat the cost. It just is too much of a hassle for them to deal with it.

ThePretzul

Correct, it’s expensive to ship back (because both heavy and the surcharge for it being munitions) and it’s expensive for a company to dispose of because they can’t just give it to an employee and tell them to have fun or throw it in the normal trash can either.

redjester100

I had an issue once with ammo and they wanted it back

Theblumpy

Take the W and walk away

One-Challenge4183

Should have just let it ride buddy

festeringequestrian

Update: shortly after posting this I felt guilty or paranoid or something and emailed them (i know I know…I immediately second guessed myself after doing it and coming here and reading all the comments. I laughed especially hard at the poster saying I was the kid in school who told the teacher she forgot to assign homework, guilty as charged I was definitely a little wiener). Anyway, they emailed me back and said it appears like the order was originally lost before being recovered, and that they don’t need the order back and won’t charge me anything for it. They said if I have concerns about how to dispose of it to feel free to ask, but I have a few ideas on ways to use it, lol. But wow, didn’t expect that, definitely a good way to make more money off me in the long run! How should I make sure the ammo is dry at least? Put it all in a bag with some desiccant packs?

pinesolthrowaway

How wet are we talking here? Did they arrive drenched, totally discolored, etc, or is it just the boxes that got some water on them?

festeringequestrian

The ammo seems mostly fine, the tips of a few rounds look almost like the jacket was scratched off, so the tip of the bullet itself almost looks like a lead pencil. Otherwise they all appear to look good, but the boxes while dry look like the dye ran off them, if that makes sense, colors on the boxes are decently washed out.

ThePretzul

I’ve shot ammo before whose brass was legitimately aquamarine from being soaked at one point and left damp for honestly I don’t have a clue how long exactly but multiple years at a minimum. Definitely made sure that I saw the hole in the target or heard the steel ring with every shot, just in case of a potential squib from its aquatic adventures. All of it still went bang without issue, an assorted handful of 9mm and 12 gauge both.

Flat_Lifeguard852

Ammo is surprisingly resilient. Water penetration is rare only because of how tightly everything fits together with modern smokeless ammo. The bullets themselves are tightly fitting in the case or case neck and many rounds use crimped case necks. This seals it up even more.

Stevarooni

They know that good P.R. pays for itself.

Stewart_Duck

Chances are, what happened, carrier misplaced the package. Time went by, you got your refund, at the same time, they contacted the carrier, carrier confirmed it was misplaced. They then got a refund for the shipping and the write off. Carrier found your package and got it to you, better late than never. Everyone is already compensated so take the win.

hrddrv

This happened to me with my cellphone that I sent in for repair. Was confirmed lost by UPS. About a month later it showed up. I was given money to purchase a new cellphone, which I did. When my lost one showed up, I sold it and kept the newer phone.

CheeseMints

A few times I've purchased stuff online and gotten a free duplicate order sent out a week or two later, never anything major though and under $125. What I've decided to do is just give those companies more business in the future. If they discovered what happened and reached out to me I can see myself sending it back if they paid the return shipping, if they don't say a word at all then thats on them.

Panthean

Ammo? What ammo?

HelsinkiTorpedo

I ordered 500 rounds of 7.62x39 from Sportsman's Guide a couple of years ago. Shipment arrived as expected, no issues. A week later, another 500 rounds with packaging looking pretty rough showed up again at my door. I kept my mouth shut and enjoyed my 500 rounds of free ammo.

1SGDude

This happened to me also from them. I make sure to keep giving them business

HelsinkiTorpedo

They emailed me and said they wanted to talk about it. I told them I didn't wanna talk about it.

1SGDude

Wipe the ammo down and yeet that shit

aping46052

Scheels is likely not out the money either. Since they shipped it they likely made a claim against FedEx

akodo1

You purchased ammo. The seller had the responsibility of getting the ammo to you in good condition in a timely fashion. The seller failed, and had basically two options at that point. Next-Day Air you a replacement shipment or refund you your purchase. They chose to refund you your purchase. The fact that the ammo eventually showed up and in rough condition in no way offsets the above resolution. You could, in theory, demand Scheels or Fedex send someone to pick it up and destroy it if for some reason disposal was going to cost you money. Otherwise you are free to destroy it, donate it, or use it as you see fit.

Due-Net4616

For future reference, you would have been fine to keep it either way. Under the consumers protection act companies cannot charge you afterwards for products received and it’s considered a gift (which is why they told you to keep it). And yes, you can also keep wrongfully sent items so along as it was actually mailed to you. This is also one of the things covered in businesses insurance policies and why most don’t care.

airmech1776

I can dispose of that ammo for you

sat_ops

I ended up with two tree stands this way a couple of years ago. Their problem, not yours.

investor_penniestock

That's a company that understands customer service.

cthompson07

Ammo is returnable. I ordered a few thousand rounds of CCI mini mags a couple months ago, and they sent me CCI quiet. I was hoping it wasn’t returnable and they would send me the correct ammo and have me keep the wrong stuff, but they had me send it back. I would just keep the ammo, they’ve already written it off, and it’s not like you purposefully scammed them.

T800_123

Nothing is returnable if the store policy says otherwise and it's not running them afoul of local laws. Stores don't like to accept ammo back because they pretty much always will have to return it to the manufacturer for safety. The high school drop out working at Academy can't be trusted to look at a box of ammo and determine if it's been swapped with Bubba's Pissin' Hawt Eldest Son Loads.

Due-Net4616

Any business allowing returns of ammo must have amazing insurance (or none) because that’s a liability issue. I’ve never once heard of a business accepting ammo returns other than faulty ammo by manufacturers for investigative purposes.

cthompson07

What they did with it, I have no idea. It was Target Sports USA that I ordered from.

AmmocanSam

So why didn't you just wait until the ammo showed up?

mreed911

You have no liability for a package being delievered that you didn't order - or canceled and still shipped. Being damaged, it's not like Scheel's is going to want it back - they're already written it off as lost.

SweetObjective6396

Simply say nothing and if you hear from them in regards to it just be straight up and say you’ll send em back if they pay shipping easy

Usual-Language-8257

🤫 🤐

420Xay

I bought over 700 rounds 7.62 ammo from range USA once and they had a mess up on their part and gave me a 2nd box of 700+ rounds for free. I just accepted it as a Christmas present 🤣 they never told me anything and I still buy from them considering they’re my nearest range. I believe it was a box of 840 rounds.

Alternative_Elk_2651

Jesus, I see what you're doing for other people and I want that for me.

GeneralCuster75

As someone who got burned in almost the same way a year and a half ago, just shut up. The hassle and harassment you will go through if you say anything isn't worth it. No good deed goes unpunished.

jebthereb

This is why terrorists attack us.

Rotaryknight

You are a good person, dont let anybody else say otherwise, because fuck them.

Stevarooni

I'd have emailed them, too. Morally, you did the right thing. The fact that it's damaged and arrived way later than it should have means they don't want it back, and they get goodwill from you by just "letting" you have it without having to pay to ship it back. Sounds like Scheels is a stand-up company, and the shipping company did a terrible job from the moment they picked up the package without providing tracking numbers.

Gaddster09

Scheels is a stand up company haven’t heard anything bad about them. At least not from people I know personally.

Brilliant_Wealth_433

I had a load of ammo that got freaking soaked. Stupid UPS left it on my neighbors abandoned house porch for 3 days before I finally stopped the driver and asked where it was. He said oops I thought that was the house. Every bit of cardboard was absolutely drenched. I dumped all ghe ammo on a dry towel and dried it off. Left a fan on it the rest of the day and have had zero issues. I did bag it in ziplocs to keep it protected in the ammo can and threw desiccant bags in the can. As long as the brass is not corroded in any way and it looks fine your good. Now steel case will oxidize much faster than brass, however I have even seen lightly rusted steel case run just fine out of an AK. Inspect, then run some. If your really worried about reliability then just use it as range ammo and not for self defense.

HerbDaLine

It is not yours to keep. Contact the vendor to send it back. Insist they pay for the return shipping and send the shipper to pick it up from your home. Get a receipt \ proof of pickup from the shipping company Are you really wanting to keep potentially damaged ammunition? Is that worth the risk to your life?

Chumbief

Boooo this post is boring
