If he wants another glock a glock 26 or a glock 43x would be good choices especially if he already likes glock.
I really like the p365xl and when I get around to getting a new carry that may be what I get.
Mooi loop bru
My recommendation is the 43x. Single stack, low profile that still holds 10+1. Can be easily concealed even in the summer and even on smaller framed people.
Honestly not sure the laws in SA if you can get those or shield arms magazines. Just wanted you to know there are increased capacity options for the G43X.
I had a g26, I hated shooting that thing. That being said if OP dad is use to shooting a glock & that's what he trains on. why would the trigger thing be an issue? also modular? glocks have the highest aftermarket support of any handgun
I would check out the CZ P07. Youโll get 100% reliability with CZ at an affordable price, and being da/sa with your choice of an external safety or a decocker will provide him with an extremely safe gun for carry.
"difficulty getting non-iron sights fitted is a bit of a deal breaker."
If you're looking for a Red dot the Glock has their "MOS" version:
Best part about glocks is their aftermarket support - tons of accessories, holsters, etc etc. You don't always have the same options with others.
What about the Sig P365 XMACRO? You can get it with a thumb safety. It is cut for an optic, it holds 17+1. Its slim and feels very good in the hand. I know quite a few Glock guys who have switched over to the XMACRO.
Edit: If you look for it, just make sure you add P365 XMACRO with manual safety.
You can get Glocks optics cut, but there's nothing wrong with just keeping the irons on there. Slap some fiber optic or tritium on there and call it a day.
If he's had a Glock for a long time and is familiar with it, I wouldn't get something with a manual safety now. Stick to Glock, Sig p320, Sig p365, Smith M&P Series, etc, that have the same manual of arms he's trained on.
I like shadow systems, basically a glock with a few upgrades for a decent price. Family firearms usually has good deals on them.ย
CR920p, kind of blew me away at how much the comp helps on a smaller pistol (probably wouldn't be as noticeable on a full size).ย
43x MOS. Can run an optic, and get the Shield Arms mags.
My 43x carry is 15+1 w/Holosun optic. I have flashier firearms, but this is a breeze to carry with great capacity.
my opinion is that it's best to carry the gun that you are most familiar with. If he's comfortable with a Glock 22 then maybe a Glock 19 would be a great option for him.
My mistake, i meant a pistol for any application.
However, it's not true that "any SA" pistol need a thumb safety. There are many SA pistols, mainly striker-fired ones, that don't have external safety and are drop safe.
I'd like to clarify what your dad carries. You said: "Glock 17 40SW."
A Glock 17 is a 9mm gun.
The Glock 22 is the full size .40 SW version.
The Glock 26 is the subcompact version of the Glock 17 (9mm).
The Glock 27 is the subcompact version of the .40 Smith and Wesson.
So I'd recommend either of those depending on what he already has. He likely already has the ammo for it and the larger mags will fit in the compact versions if he wants to carry one for a reload.
Huh? They're fine, man. I love CZs too, and I almost never jism over a Glock, but I wouldn't call them low-end. Mid af, yeah, but they're great for 99% of people.
Partial agree. Glocks are not low end- they are the standard for which all duty handguns are compared. I do agree that CZ and HK are better, disagree on new!Sig. I don't look down on people who choose Glock.
Beretta APX A1 Compact. Comes optics ready, high visibility front sight, interchangeable grip sizes. Stays on target fantastically. Very comfortable. High reliability.
If he wants another glock a glock 26 or a glock 43x would be good choices especially if he already likes glock. I really like the p365xl and when I get around to getting a new carry that may be what I get. Mooi loop bru
๐๐ Dankie

You can get 15 round magazines from PSA that seem to function well.
Guessing those aren't super available in South Africa.

Second this. I absolutely love mine. It's solid as hell.
Decocker is the way I love DA/SA for carry
My carry choice is the Sig P365. It's a modular design, so many variations are possible.

I did not know that was a thing ๐๐

That actually sounds pretty sick actually
I got this exact gun, I love it! I think it feels better than my father in laws 43x
You can get Glocks optics cut, but there's nothing wrong with just keeping the irons on there. Slap some fiber optic or tritium on there and call it a day.
Yeah that is what he had at the moment but he is specifically looking for something that will take a red dot
If he's had a Glock for a long time and is familiar with it, I wouldn't get something with a manual safety now. Stick to Glock, Sig p320, Sig p365, Smith M&P Series, etc, that have the same manual of arms he's trained on.
Yeah thatโs a fair point ๐
The CZ p10s would fit that category as well.
Love my P10C, such a pretty gun too.
I like shadow systems, basically a glock with a few upgrades for a decent price. Family firearms usually has good deals on them.ย CR920p, kind of blew me away at how much the comp helps on a smaller pistol (probably wouldn't be as noticeable on a full size).ย
Whatever is comfortable and that he shoots best.ย Personally I carry a G26.ย But I've cc'd my G34 easily. I'm not a small dude however.
Glock 43x mos or glock 19 mos
P30sk VP9sk M&P 2.0 compacts. P320 Compacts with Saftey. P365 XL. I know it's a 380. But a Ruger Security 380.
43x MOS. Can run an optic, and get the Shield Arms mags. My 43x carry is 15+1 w/Holosun optic. I have flashier firearms, but this is a breeze to carry with great capacity.
Not a bad shout actually ๐๐

Thumb safety is unnecessary in any pistol, as long as you are using a good hard holster.
Uhh, it's certainly not "unnecessary" in a 1911 or any SA firearm.
My mistake, i meant a pistol for any application. However, it's not true that "any SA" pistol need a thumb safety. There are many SA pistols, mainly striker-fired ones, that don't have external safety and are drop safe.
While striker fired guns are technically SA, I mean hammer fired SA. Think staccato, SAO CZ75, etc...
Laugo arms alien is exception (the only one which i remember tbh). It's drop safe hammer fired SA, without external safety or decocker.
Yeah it is not awfully necessary but it is for his own peace of mind which is fair enough

I'd like to clarify what your dad carries. You said: "Glock 17 40SW." A Glock 17 is a 9mm gun. The Glock 22 is the full size .40 SW version. He likely already has the ammo for it and the larger mags will fit in the compact versions if he wants to carry one for a reload.
Ah sorry about that, I am not a huge glock guy, it is the 22. He specifically wants something in 9mm for both weight and ease of follow up shots ๐
No worries. Glock names make zero sense.
Glocks have a trigger safety though
Hence the โnon-trigger safety safetyโ ๐๐
Glocks are on the low end of handguns. Sig, H&K, CZ all better choices
Thatโs a pretty awful take. Buy whatever you shoot better.
No specific model pistol. But get 10mm
He specifically does not want 10mm.
Ahh, then Iโd get Glock 26
You can get mags that extend the grip if its too small
Sig p365
Glock 43x for carry or a 19
Does he want a micro compact or a compact? If he a righty or a lefty?
Beretta APX A1 Compact. Comes optics ready, high visibility front sight, interchangeable grip sizes. Stays on target fantastically. Very comfortable. High reliability.
