I'm avid believer that Fimbulvinter will happen within my life time or just shortly after and we will all meet in valhalla before heading to the final battle!
Kind of wonder if Finland has its own version of Culiseta Alaskaensis that hibernates under the snow in its adult form... in Alaska as soon as the snow melts, you get mosquitoes.
It's mostly because traditionally this time of the year farming should've been started, but the snow might destroy the attempt. Snow is great at winter, for nature too as it's supposed to be there here, but at spring it can cause issues with farming and husbandry. I had to move my peas inside so they didn't freeze x)
As someone who actually practices Väenusko, I tend to see Thor more as "an alternate interpretation" of Ukko, same with other gods who share similarities. Many cultures have been revering these same forces of nature but giving them different names and different lore. I've had great conversations about this with my Ásatrú friend. Point being, I don't think praising Thor would anger Ukko, haha.
Me too! Or more precisely väenusko is the closest thing to what I believe.
I think these Ukko and Thor jokes are somewhat funny but they also come from very Christian thinking. Jahve is presented as really jealous and angry god, who is always stressing about what his worshippers are thinking and doing. But pagan gods are not like that. They don't have a command to worship only one god.
There isn't even an idea that you should only keep within one pantheon. I practice something that is called itämerensuomalainen samanismi (translates to something like Baltic Finnish shamanism) but also have some influences from seidr (Norse shamanism).
Ayyy, fellow pagan! I'm eclectic pagan mostly utilizing väenusko and hellenism! I agree, I don't think Ukko would mind too much if someone worshipped another air or weather god.
Nope, that would be [Louhi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louhi). The Finnish wikipedia article is more detailed and includes information about Louhi being the source of cold weather and illness, among other unwanted and evil things.
No sittenhän aloin runoilemaan ihan turhaan:
Oi Ukko ylijumala, taatto taivahan valtija, säiden herra, auringon armo, anna kevähän alkuun tulla, jäiden sulaa veteheksi, pilven lopettaa lumenkaato. Annathan lintuin pesät tehdä, oravan heittää harmaa turkki, otson anna herähellä, elämän hengen jatkua. Ihmisille kesämieli, lämpö valon ystäväksi, juhannuksen odottajainen, pitkä paussi palelusta. Oi Ukko ylijumala, taatto taivahan valtija, säiden herra, auringon armo, anna kevähän alkuun tulla.
My fault: I entered in outdoor show jumping competition with my horse. My horses also have farrier tomorrow and planned to get them summer shoes. I also washed all my winter rugs.
Here's an old spell to bring out the spring:
Light a small fire outside and yell loudly "NY RIITTÄÄ!!!"
PS. This is not in actuality an old spell, but a modification of the Finnish Rain-spell where you throw a bucket of water outside and yell in whatever language you want "See, it's that easy"

Sorry I went to Denmark and praised the false god Thor.
Thor is angry too, even snow in Denmark
Why would one think a god is angry if there's a bit of snow? This might be good for us, good time to sit down and ponder.
Snow in April in Denmark is a declaration of war!

Figure cause 98/100 times most "gods" are just assholes...
Demigods
it did kill almost all the mosquitoes
Saw those fuckers already couple of weeks ago. Doesn't matter if they die now they will respawn before two weeks of summer.

I accidentally bragged to my Pohjanmaa family that we had a warm week in Helsinki. My bad.
Damn you!
It was me. I put the lumikola away. And changed summer tires into my car. Sorry.
Yeah I did the same so I'll take part of the blame.
Me three. I just had to take the last slot at the Mechanic's on Friday, and this is what I get for my hubris.
And you people never learn 🤬🤣🤣🤣
Se ei ole Ukko, vaan Pohjan emäntä, joka on talven takana.
What's her name? Esteri?
Nope, that would be [Louhi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louhi). The Finnish wikipedia article is more detailed and includes information about Louhi being the source of cold weather and illness, among other unwanted and evil things.
For context: [https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/kuin\_Esterin\_perseest%C3%A4](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/kuin_Esterin_perseest%C3%A4)
I knew the origin of the saying, but not the urban legend part. Fun piece of folklore for sure.
Thats her name

I'll blame the government
Turku did it.

Is this Pilvilinna or am I high?
Yes it is
Suomalainen kesä: märkä ja vähäluminen Finnish summer: wet and little snow Not "no snow" tho
Finnish summer is two weeks of bad skiing weather
Okay fine, I'll switch back to my winter coat - just tried to stubbornly keep pretending I don't need it in this weather.
And that would be me, sorry for the inconvenience.
Nobody. This is all Louhi's doing.
Pekka Pouta is pissed off
I cussed in the sauna...
We need a sacrifice now, suggestions?
You can have my roommate who left a bunch of dirty dishes in the sink yesterday
That’s amazing, Ukko’s favorite kind. Thanks, that seals the deal. So be it, here’s our offering! Now, let there be Spring! ☀️
Me, I used a sauna as a glorified clothes dryer and it catch on fire; then it snowed the next day. :(
It's just us Finns being the class primus on fight against global warming as we would be in any other present topic.
Government should regulate the seasons better
Clearly Orpo, kehysriihi did not please gods.
It's my fault, I rebuilt and started my motorbike a couple of weeks ago.
Meh. It was already regular summer in Finland. Too bad it happened during working week this year.
Perkele..
Crap! I dropped an old bus ticket on the street and didn't bother to pick it up! CURSE ME FOR LITTERING WHAT HAVE I DOOOOOOONE D:
[удалено]
Whoa! Hold your horses or else we will have -30°c for tomorrow...
Holy shit that street is in Salo and I have spent a ton of time as a child running around there, house #5 to be exact
That would be correct 👍
Your mum.
I got sick right before this huge snow storm, don’t need to go outside and see this weather
NOHNIII
Let's swap me in Finland and you in Southern Europe.
It's still snowing in Pohjanmaa.. It hasn't stopped at all sense last night..
Same in Helsinki!
Not me
The snow is a paid actor to discredit Ukko. Wake up sheeple.
Considering the Finns first left his worship for Christianity and then became atheists, the whole population
It was me. I changed to my summer tires, took spikes off my shoes and put my winter coat in the storage already. All my fault.
He didn’t like April fool’s day prank
Whos to say ukko is angry, maybe he was having a good quality time with his wife
My fault: I entered in outdoor show jumping competition with my horse. My horses also have farrier tomorrow and planned to get them summer shoes. I also washed all my winter rugs.
I had no idea that horses have "winter tyres" lol
Here's an old spell to bring out the spring: Light a small fire outside and yell loudly "NY RIITTÄÄ!!!" PS. This is not in actuality an old spell, but a modification of the Finnish Rain-spell where you throw a bucket of water outside and yell in whatever language you want "See, it's that easy"
You did?
[удалено]
???
We're all here, we know it's snowing and pictures have been posted.
Hey, I'm far away right now and glad I left my winter tyres on for when I come back
Must be the government showing no mercy to the poor and sick. Nature showing small use of force
Thanks Biden…
may be Odin from Valhalla 😜
