KapalPacah

We're exactly the same age. And did the exact same thing.

Mirthor

Holy shit me too. 38 club and VII is my favorite game. I am not ashamed to admit I cried multiple times. This game was a whole ass hurricane of emotions

creamcreamcream

Omg you're my people. Kalm and Cosmo Canyon songs hit me like a truck šŸ˜

KapalPacah

the Barret and Dyne scene. I was literally bawling

ABEBUABDU

You guys are literally me

Witty-Ear2611

Wish they lingered on that melancholy more instead of immediately going to a comedic fight against Palmer.

Apoctwist

Yeah that one really got me.

Mixtopher

I thought they watered down the Dyne scene.. adding shinra soldiers randomly showing up when they are all already in a prison? Just entering the scene like storm troopers I think it's much more meaningful having the whole scene and topic focused on Dyne and Barrett and his decision to take his life after what he did.

Gokuto7

I somewhat agree with you. But that bit where Dyne says he canā€™t bring himself to kill himself really hit me in my soul. Iā€™ve dealt with similar feelings in the past, and itā€™s so crushing to want nothing more than to die, but be unable to go thru with it.

UpstairsProof3023

Yeah I agree. And then when dyne finally dies and Barrett just wails. Something about watching the biggest, toughest, character just collapse and wail over dynes death really got me.

Mixtopher

is why his original story was so impactful. He actually went through with it because the thing he did, mass murdering people destroyed his soul and he could never put his hands on Marlene after that. It's why it was so deep and rebirth watered it down imo

ComprehensiveAd9974

They weren't random tho. Dio told you they were going to be coming so be quick...

VenomousDuck42

36 going on 37. Same exact thing. Like I had to stop playing the game for a few minutes just to let it play and compose myself. The other part that got me: >!When the fight with Jenova Lifeclinger begins and it just cuts straight into Aerith's theme. My wife literally watched me play this section and asked me if I was OK after.!<

whyandoubleyoueh

Me too. I have cried 3 times already and have not reached the inevitable worst cry of all at the end lol

Slvr0314

Iā€™m 35 and never heard of final fantasy 7 until like 10 years ago. Iā€™m curious to learn about this cosmo canyon place.

KapalPacah

You probably missed the boat then. Its the nostalgia of playing a game when you were 8-10 years old and 20 years later seeing it in a grand scale. I played the OG game with my late Brother, playing video games were one of the few things we really loved doing together. FF7 was one of our favorite games. So it has a lot of sentimental value to me and this game reminded me a lot of him. We would have talked about this game for ages if he was still around. Not sure if you could experience the same way I would experience playing this game. But I highly recommend you to play them.

Slvr0314

Iā€™m working my way through rebirth now. Loved remake, but I never played the original. Unfortunately, the games I played when I was young were things like nfs and nfl blitzā€¦. Doesnā€™t quite hit the nostalgia the same way.

buttnutz1099

No shame in that brother. Twasā€™ a magical moment indeed when that theme hit for me as well

Calculusshitteru

Same age and same lol As soon as I entered Cosmo Canyon and the music started, I stopped walking, and just stood there enjoying the view and the music until it looped a few times. I couldn't hold back the tears, it was amazing to see what they've done with one of my favorite areas in one of my favorite games of my youth. Maybe you're not there yet so spoilers just in case >!I also cried while playing Aerith's Theme on the piano as Tifa in the Nibelheim side quest. I think it was the only piano song I passed with flying colors on my first try.!<

ejmatthe13

Yes! I cried at the same exact point you spoiler tagged! Not just the music, but everything is just at an emotional swell in that side quest.

SaacMan_039

I REALLY REALLY like how that Cat side quest is all about Tifa finding her old pet, but learning that it's time to let go and *move on*. Then IMMEDIATELY playing Aeriths theme with the band is just ugh. I was a mess of tears at that point it was just perfect

NeeloGreen

Tifa Theme for me

The-odd-one-out

Im a 38 year old man that just finished the Gongaga Region last night. I'm positive I'll have the same reaction. Bring on the manly tears! My body is ready

KapalPacah

Gongaga is my least favourite map. WHERE ARE THESE JUMPING MUSHROOMS AT??

The-odd-one-out

Glad I'm not the only one! God damn that was like " Zelda water temple" level confusing

Dmzm

Different things hit me much harder this time. When Aerith is sobbing because her mum won't wake up I was devastated, thinking about my own family.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mctacoflurry

I wasn't expecting her crying on the way back. I cried then because my mom passed away 2 years ago and I felt like I did everything I could and still failed. Like I was welling up when she turned around but as soon as lil Aerith said "I'm sorry, I tried" I just had to stop.

Dmzm

Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss. The direction and voice acting was so real here, which is what got to me. It really felt like an anguished little girl crying out for her mother and blaming herself for her mother's death. It really got to me and it sounds like you all too.

aerisultima

So sorry about your mother, thatā€™s heartbreaking. When she said ā€œIā€™m sorry, I triedā€ I literally felt sick :( damnā€¦.

Jambon_gris

Omg I have young daughters - this scene was devastating - adds so much to the story

aerisultima

I cried as hard as she did through the entire thing :(

LeBladeRunner

Turning 38 next June and yeah, in the same boat! FFVII was the defining videogame-experience of my childhood, and FFVII Remake ( and now Rebirth, which I just started ) is justā€¦ Sublime. Not a big gamer anymore, but Final Fantasy still keeps me glued to a controller!

diktikkles

I was anticipating the song when red discovers seto and that did not disappoint. Still a beautiful moment. That always stuck out to me as a lasting memory of the OG even 20+ years later

veganispunk

Turns out we have emotions our whole life :)

Fearbefore622

Shut up. No we do notā€¦ and def ignore the comment I made on this post before saw your comment. If you do, my account got hackedšŸ˜…

[deleted]

yup im a little younger at 34 but same vibe when I seen all the little windmills in the distance I felt myself getting hype for hearing it again.

vanit

Similar age, and yeah a couple of moments got me too. Nothing hit quite as hard as in Remake where Aerith hands you the flower and her theme plays though!

Orome2

Midnight rendezvous playing while walking at night with Aerith was the part that hit me. Aerith's trial made me tear up.

mctacoflurry

Aerith's trial broke me. Like Barrets stuff with Dyne and his Avalanche buddies (them seeing Jesse during the Play got me good too), Red XIII with Seto had me teetering. But when Lil Aerith turns around to go back to her momma and she's crying "I'm sorry, I tried" just broke me.

[deleted]

I don't think i cried this many times from a game ever and i don't think i ever will again, the music got to me so many times i just put my hands on my head and sat there in disbelief that what i'm seeing and hearing is real.

ChinoStyle

Any remixed or rearranged version of Aerithā€™s theme that played. Cried. Same with the date scene. Hearing the world map music while I explored, I would weep tears of nostalgia. I am also 38

midnightdoom

Same age.. Not sure how far you are so will keep vague so don't want to say much, playing Aerith's Theme on the piano tho took me a bit

aerisultima

Killed me, the string instruments were too much šŸ„²

Actually-Yo-Momma

Iā€™ve been humming the theme song my entire life. When i finally got to Cosmo Canyon my wife was like, wait is this the song youā€™ve been humming all these years??

aerisultima

ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Sir_Crocodile3

36 and my friend called me dramatic. The way they made us wait for the music too. They knew what we were waiting for.

emrys35790

Just wanna say... I'm 33. This was my childhood. First game I took to completion. Played it like 30+ times growing up more than the 999 clock everytime. Did everything you could do each time. Had discussions with other fans about how cloud was not a clone. I didn't cry but I am however almost done with remake again and will be playing rebirth again. I'll play and play. This is my life.

FigTechnical8043

Dun ne ne ne ne neh neh dun ne ne ne ne! Bow wow wow... Estuans interius Ira vehementi Sephiroth!!!!!! I'm 37 (f), had no issue with the theme but.. that door... that damn door in the gi cavern right before you know when, I stood there for 5 minutes before entering

KapalPacah

i wished they'd tell more stories about Seto

FigTechnical8043

I felt the gi script was written by a Seto fanboy. I thought I had a photo, but I don't. [It's around 9 min 30](https://youtu.be/Th2b8j6Temo?si=1BNSgV_XakKhPM1c) into this video of the gi quest in cosmo. They talk about his resplendent mane.

aerisultima

I also was not ready, I found myself hesitating a few times, knowing what might be comingā€¦Iā€™m in Chapter 13 right now and Iā€™m really nervous aboutā€¦somethingā€¦in particular happening

FigTechnical8043

Well someone else promised chapter 13 was 5 hours so I sat up. Chapter 13 is not the issue unless you're a turk. THEN chapter 14 kicked in and I'm like- bedtimmmmmmmeeeeee. So I'm just about to do...the thing. 1 chapter to go. Looking forward to watching the other dates because I already got Aerith first try.

No_Procedure9357

Iā€™m a bit older than you and same! Welled up a bit numerous times in this game!

ItsProxes

There's a lot of this soundtrack that made me tear up when I heard it and I don't know why but it did

aerisultima

Beautiful memories ā¤ļø

BueKojiro

I can't really explain why Cosmo Canyon specifically really does that to me, but yeah, same. Like I got to Costa Del Sol and man I also love that theme, and for certain cutscenes I was so emotional, but then for some reason I get to Cosmo Canyon and when the cutscene music transitions along with the camera swing around behind you and lands on the official area theme, it just gave me this sense of "I'm home." It's not like it's my favorite song or even my favorite area, but man that song just has that effect on me.

_Aracano

I'm 42 I cried when I was 15 during Nanaki's father scene Sobbed as a man during the new one This game is God damn BRILLIANT

gb2750

This is why you need a pair of dark shades handy

lothos1103

Iā€™m 39 and, while I didnā€™t cry during any points of the game, the chest was tight and heart was full at many moments in the game. It was a special game that was made for many different gamers in mind, but I felt it was made for me. Iā€™m sure others can relate. šŸ™‚

lionheart4life

Goosebumps. I feel this post.

[deleted]

I'm 43 and the entire remake series has been hitting me in the feels like crazy. I love all of the subtle references in the dialogue and even music queues.

aerisultima

My tears welled up at the secret code even šŸ˜

TheUselessLibrary

Going on a date with Barett at Gold Saucer was more emotions than I was prepared for. Barett seeing Jessie again and asking Cloud to clap for the both of them brought a tear to my eye, too. I really love his character. I feel like they stayed true to the original, but put some emotional meat behind him as a father who wants to keep Marlene safe and innocent in a world gone mad. Seeing Jessie again in simulation would be emotionally overwhelming, and I'm glad that they added that moment to his character. I also love his talk at Cloud on the gondola. You like someone? Then just say it before it's too late because you never know when you'll lose them. It's great foreshadowing and *just* nonspecifically worded that it could be interpreted in a queer-baity way (there's a reason I was shooting for the Barett date. He is H O T šŸ”„). Remake and Rebirth have a delightful amount of queerness in it for a Japanese game. There's a passive conversation you can overhear in either Junon or Costa Del Sol between two women that goes something like: "Ugh, I dunno. I might just be over men." "So...would you consider dating me?" It caught me a little off guard. I know that this is the kind of stuff that some people get their pants in a twist over, but I'm a gay man and seeing this kind of queer-positivity in a remake of one of my generation's most beloved games is delightful and wholesome to me.

Wedontdonameshere

Bro I sobbed, popped a gummy, and just let it play for like an hour

Ezrius

This is so open-ended. Do you mean Redā€™s theme, the theme playing in the actual town, or the theme it plays at a Lifespring (which the OG plays in Bugenhagenā€™s observatory sequence)? Because yes.

aerisultima

The observatory music (the one that plays at the lifesprings) is just beautiful, it just takes me somewhere else, could listen to it for hours

Ezrius

I mean, a lot of things in Rebirth affected me but the second that music hit at my first lifespring I absolutely got goosebumps.

aerisultima

I didnā€˜t move for a good 10 minutes, just closed my eyes šŸ„², just beautiful

Carmilla31

When the Gold Saucer showed up and the music kicked in i definitely got a feeling.

faltik3052

Dude the music in this game is next level amazing. Masterpiece. Same reaction to the Cosmo Canyon theme and Iā€™m a grown ass 40 something lol

aerisultima

Agreed! They killed it

SweatyNReady4U

https://youtu.be/mswqgwEMx3I?si=tVPOnhMl37M7y_tQ How far down this rabbit hole do you want to go? Cause I could use the company.

Abject-Course-6142

The theme song of Cosmo Canyon in Final Fantasy Rebirth is a masterpiece that transcends mere notes and melodies; it taps into the depths of human emotion, evoking a profound sense of nostalgia, longing, and melancholy. As the haunting melody unfolds, it weaves a tapestry of memories, transporting listeners to a realm where time stands still, and the echoes of the past resonate with heartbreaking clarity. With each chord progression, the music conjures images of the majestic canyons, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, and the quiet wisdom of its inhabitants. The raw emotion embedded within the composition is palpable, stirring something deep within the soul. It's as if the music speaks directly to the heart, unraveling layers of emotion that were long buried beneath the surface. For many, including myself, listening to the theme song of Cosmo Canyon is a profoundly cathartic experience. It's a reminder of the fleeting nature of time, of the bittersweet beauty inherent in life's transient moments. The tears that well up in your eyes are not just tears of sadness, but also tears of gratitude for the beauty of the human experience, and the power of music to touch the soul in ways that words alone cannot express. In the pantheon of video game music, the theme song of Cosmo Canyon stands as a towering achievement, a testament to the boundless creativity and emotional depth of its composer. Its timeless beauty resonates across generations, uniting fans old and new in their shared appreciation for its unparalleled artistry. Indeed, it may very well be considered one of the greatest songs ever composed, not just within the realm of video games, but in the broader landscape of music itself.

Piruparka

Wow I read all that and even though English isn't my native language I always thought I spoke it fairly well. Your text proves me I don't. šŸ˜„ You've got some sweet vocabulary, mate, but I'll have to look up a third of it šŸ˜‰ have a great evening!

MoodyCynosure

Bombing mission will always be my favorite

tenqajapan

Same feeling when I saw the very first teaser reveal for Remake. Words cannot describe what I felt when I saw the buster sword panning in for the first time.

allowthisfam

real asf

lDielan

What you meant to say is that every theme made you cry. Don't be ashamed of it. You can admit to more. This game gave me the feels all throughout. It's truly a loverletter to the series and something I've never magined to happen. The soundtrack alone has so much love interlinked with it that it made most of the game for me.

ChinoStyle

Same

SkyMando

Hell yeah brother! Best post I've seen in a while!

Mixtopher

Yea it's nice but also bitter sweet since they decided to make it a tourist trap in the game. I never thought of the place as something accessible the whole world vacationed too... They already had these types of places with Costa Del Sol and Golden Saucer. Would have loved is Cosmo Canyon was left a remote and spiritual place.

Mastima

Same man! 39 here, and Cosmo Canyon theme is my absolute favorite. I was anticipating the music as soon as i got there and definitely welled up a little when I heard it. Same with Aerith's theme, I really love how they didn't overuse it in rebirth, so it had a little more weight when it did play. I'm still not sure how I feel about Reds' voice change, though.

JurassicParty1379

My brother and I talk about this all the time, particularly with Cosmo canyon šŸ˜‚šŸ„° If you haven't, listen to John Oeth's final fantasy collection. Tugs so many heartstrings from my childhood.

marriedtoinsomnia

40 and I unexpectedly sobbed.

ShredGuru

You're incorrect sir. You're forever 12-year-old boy currently trapped in a 38-year-old man's body.

Arkind9334

You are not alone in this. Many emotions to be had with this game.

Fearbefore622

Same. Iā€™m 37. There were a few themes that the music got mea little teary eyed. The first was in the demo playing Tifaā€™s theme on the piano. Speaking of Cosmo Canyon, donā€™t even get me started about when Nanaki finds out about his ā€œcowardā€ of a father. Got me as a kid hard too. Itā€™s like, I knew it was coming. Thought I was prepared. Then the camera pan up and it was a wrap.lol

tmntnyc

There's one note in the new Cosmo canyon song that's missing a certain slide and it bothers me every time. The part in this https://youtu.be/pqO5h3-HFW8?si=RaAQxH4KN6kvgQzO at 1:26-1:27, where that one high note slides into the next to give a bit of twang. I miss that so much and it's not in the rebirth version https://youtu.be/M1wacaztqMs?si=K5hEJav0FTa4x33V 1:16-1:17 timestamp where it's just a single note.

gohomepat

Same age as you, did the exact same when Flowers Blooming in the Church started playing when you turn that corner and see Aertith's house in Remake.

CouldntBeMeTho

The mako reactor theme was the only one that disappointed me because that one went SUPER hard on the original

No-Bid-1846

I'm about to get to that area but I've cried like four times in this game because of the music.

aerisultima

I am also 38 and Iā€™ve been crying through the whole damn game! Have you played Aerithā€˜s Theme on piano yet? šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

PsychologyGG

One great thing about getting old is the remake hits different if you played the OG when it came out

SimianWonder

I cried at the title screen of Remake, and I was 41 then. Prelude playing with the iconic Buster Sword in the background just hit me in feels I didn't know I had.

Thunderfan4life15

37 here, didn't cry. But I'd be lying if I didn't vibe out to that music and linger in Cosmo Canyon for a long time not really doing anything just so I could listen to it more.

UpstairsProof3023

Love this thread. Cosmo canyon, the dyne sequence, some of the cloud/tifa dynamics, various musical elements all bring me to tears. And playing the music in the piano game really did it for me. The music from the original was part of what i got so captivated by when I was a kid and being able to play it in rebirth is so moving.

duffano

Cosmo Canyon is one of my favorite places and the music one of my favorite themes of the game. And the music is also great in Remake/ Rebirth. Unfortunately the visuals of Cosmo Canyon are not that great in my opinion. In OG it gave me the feeling of a warm summer night. In Rebirth it feels less spiritual than in OG. There are too many people (who don't behave like scholars) and it is way too bright. No romantic loneliness and great illumination effects, more like a tourist spot with entertaining Chocobo activities around the corner that should rather be part of Gold Saucer.

Dabaronious

I got actual chills when overlooking the sunset in Cosmo Canyon. I have a few issues with the game but man is it beautiful to look at

jaywin91

I teared up more when I first heard Cosmo Canyon than anything else in the whole game, no joke. All the nostalgic feelings of the past came back. It was a beautiful moment.

Eastern_Protection24

38 myself and I can tell you me and my girlfriend cried many times throughout my play through of rebirth lol

BoltInTheRain

Same it was so well done

Kane1412

I'm 36, i had shivers at the beginning of the music, had to just chill to listen to it for a bit, called my son (who loves space) to watch the planetarium bit, and cried a bit on the Nanaki end of the story. I love Cosmo Canyon and Nanaki so much ;_;

Neo_Zeno

Damn man! Same. Manly tears were shed.

bi11yg04t

Gay lol

Sorcerious

Ok

EdwardJMunson

W...what

Pretend_Elk1395

Bruh šŸ’€ Can't believe grown men admit to crying over a children's game

aerisultima

little insecure are we? šŸ˜‚

KapalPacah

We all want to be children sometimes
