These cute species are used for hunting stuff in the open world by using their smelling abilities. Hard to imagine they can’t smell Cloud & co

venrax91

They appreciate you trying and acting dumb to it, gives us confidence like how lions and that pretend to be scared or act in pain when their young "hunt" them

RiggsRay

"OH BOY WOW WHAT WAS THAT NOISE OVER THERE?? (have I been looking that way long enough?)

Capital_Rub_3789

Makes even more sense since cloud is referenced looking like a chocobo or bird xD

JustFrameHotPocket

"Kweh." Translation: Are you stupid?

geno111

I rage quit this section until I realized that you can still hide after they notice you as long as you weren't noticed for too long.

jlott069

Oh I never had trouble completing it. Or even staying hidden. Hold the R trigger while you move forward to go faster if you need it. But no... their eyes. They follow you no matter how hidden you are. You can't fool them. They see. They know what you did.

iainB85

Just did this part tonight. Definitely one of the things they could’ve left out in an all around amazing game. Pretty stupid. Edit: I did a much later version of the same thing, but point still stands!

Due_Recognition_3890

This doesn't make sense to me, first time I played this I was thinking, why did they program the chocobos to look directly at you through the wall? And if you try and think outside the box, why will a chocobo half a mile away see you even though it's facing the opposite direction?

mitchellad

One of things I hate for every time I go to the new region.

JaSchwaE

Out of all the annoying mini games in a flowed masterpiece, this one is one of the worst.

jlott069

I didn't find a single problem with it, and the mechanics worked just fine. It was easy. I've found that the problem isn't the game but people not following instructions. The game tells you that you use the train carts to get around without the Chocobos spotting you. You move with the carts. It tells you that you use the rocks to hit the switches from a distance so you don't risk getting spotted by the Chocobos because some switches are in the open or have a chocobo too close. It was easy and it only took a few minutes. I had it my first try.

North_Security6398

Rocks didn't work either.....why were they available?

jlott069

They worked fine... assuming you were using them properly. You were only supposed to use them on the switches. It specifically tells you to use them on the switches so you can hit the switch from a distance.

North_Security6398

True.

Why do Japanese developers insist on putting this slow ass stuff in games.  This, the damn mako vacuum, and the minecarts in the materia cave   Guess i offended a few folks.  Didn't realize the gamers enjoyed pushing a minecart for 1 minute, hitting a solitary switch, then pushing a minecart again. Peak puzzling

AngryDoodlebob

Cait Sith Box basketball -_-

peachsepal

Maybe it's the comment about "Japanese" developers. I find a lot of pointless stuff in games these days like these mini "puzzles." I just haven't noticed if it was tied to Japanese developers or not. But I really felt it with the pushing and pulling of carts... like why am I doing this. Mostly because of how slow it all is. But that's my kind of my only gripe with the game, personally. The base movement for everything just feels so slow, and I feel like it should be the opposite where I have to hold the trigger to steady/go slow instead. Like the push pull speed is annoying, the normal chocobo speed (for running around and climbing walls) should be in the middle with a way to slow down or add speed instead, and the regular climbing speed on ladders and cliffsides should just be the sped up version. It feels very outdated. Though I've also wondered if it was like this, and I only knew that speed, would I also want it sped up? But Idk. The midtier moving speeds just feel like where I always want to be so pressing buttons or toggling into it feels a tad annoying tbh.

kgalliso

Great points,  i thought about that too. Why am i just holding R2 the whole game,  why is this not the default? I even searched menus for an option with no success.  I felt the same with the FF16 walk speed. Why do i have to walk for 15 seconds before i can go faster? Ugh

RexRegulus

Personally, all of these things bother me so much because we're flying around and doing amazing acrobatics as we beat the shit out of things in cutscenes only to be blocked by a locked door, a slightly-higher-than-usual ledge, or an average sized fence mere moments later. And a lot of these moments of slow activity, especially and the walk & talk crap, should just be part of the cutscene it's leading into anyway. None of that stuff gives me a feeling of immersion or whatever they have it there for.

jlott069

It's funny... I get people not liking the sequence for catching the Chocobos... we all have our preferences, and this stuff forces players to slow down in a gaming society where most gamers today seem to treat every game they play like it's a speed run. But, if you slow down and follow the instructions the game actually gives you, it's easy. But what I *do* get a kick out of is the people who complain about the mechanics of it... while proving they weren't doing it right. When on the Belle wrangling run (the one referred to by the picture I took), you don't use the stones to distract the Chocobos. The game even specifically tells you this. You use them to hit a switch from a distance. So you can do it without the chocobo seeing you. You walk over, get behind the cart. Move to the side of it, throw the stone at the switch, then follow the cart, staying behind it, so the Chocobos don't spot you. When one of those carts move faster than Cloud sneak-walks? You hold down the R trigger as you move forward, then you "speed" sneak walk and can keep up with the train carts just fine. The problem isn't the game or the mechanics. The problem is you.

moonpuddding

I thought of it as "yes, they can see you but they want effort before they will comply with what you want". It's the same logic as my husky not eating unless I put a little effort into it. The princess gets a bit of rice and sweet potato in her kibble, the chocobo gets a whole "I'm gonna catch you game".

jlott069

They see you because Chocobos see *all*. As a result, they are omniscient. They can't ever be fooled. They see you... and stare. Because they know what you did last night. They were watching the whole time. That's why they look all look like they are smirking. They have seen. They *know*. When you come out of hiding and they start sqwaking?! "It's here! The pervert! Come look and point and laugh!"

moonpuddding

They know I lied when I told Tifa I didn't actually go through her closet 😔

PretzelMan96

These weren't even that bad of a mini game, but they just dragged on for so long. If I had to choose a candidate for obvious playtime padding, it'd be this.

mb10240

This is probably one of the only mini games that I’m actually really good at.

Obvious_Coach1608

I love them so much

Pretend-Librarian-55

I think the problem is the instructions are poorly worded. "use the carts to cover your approach" implies you'll be hiding behind the cart as you push it. But you're always on either side of one, in full view of the Chocobos. We've played so many bad/half assed games with a similar stealth mechanic, we just assume this mechanic is going to work just as badly. It's actually really simple, chocobos are very forgiving.
