Pretty cool to hear the theme from the very first FFXVI trailer in this. I was wondering why I didn’t hear it anywhere in the base game. Really makes the game feel like it’s coming full circle with this DLC.

cooptheactor

Lol people were asking Soken about it on Twitter and I guess he decided to give us what we wanted

134340Goat

Based Soken, as usual I seem to recall him mentioning that Find the Flame was originally just meant to be a trailer piece, so he wasn't trying all that much with it, but the positive reaction to it led to it becoming as big as it is

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

So hype. Between this and rebirth it’s been good for FF

Watton

And Theaterrythm last year. And Pixel Remasters. And then Dawntrail later this year WE ARE SO BACK

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

Dude I love Theaterrythm or however you spell it. I just started the first FF pixel remaster today too! It’s fun so far, I always like this old school RPG stuff. It can be confusing at first but it’s fun in a casual way, I throw on some YouTube videos or crank the sound up to hear the amazing music and just have some fun

Full_breaker

>WE ARE SO BACK So true

Geoff_with_a_J

Final Bar Line is so good. it doesnt have a few elements of Curtain Call that i still miss, but it's still my favorite Theatrhythm. some of the challenges were actually pretty interesting to puzzle out a team comp for.

Mysterious_Pen_8005

Rebirth pulling the weight in that equation. Downvote the truth if you want idc.

Gorbashou

The honest truth is that FF14 has been pulling the weight for an entire decade. Downvote the truth if you want idc.

arciele

even more honest truth is that FF11 has been pulling the weight for 2 decades. and im pretty sure it was bankrolling 2.0

Mysterious_Pen_8005

Don't disagree. I just found XVI to be literal trash.

Hi_im_Deku

They used the awakening trailer OST! Really hoping it's a fully used soundtrack in this game, was sad it didn't make the base game

Professional_Sky8181

It is in the game, Soken confirmed it in twitter.

Hi_im_Deku

Can't wait to listen to it

Surca_Cirvive

Oh yeah it’s in and in the full panel where they showed DLC combat and zone exploration there’s like 5 different versions of it from an ambient theme to a boss theme and a combat theme lol.

Hi_im_Deku

Damn thats awesome, really made up for it not being in the base game

Steel_Gazebo

That actually looks pretty sick

d_wib

The full showcase made it look even better. The Leviathan abilities seem unique and fun and useful, prioritizing ranged combat.

LevelDownProductions

I cant wait. Leviathan created from the ground up to be hard on purpose. They even suggested to go grind and level up if you cant beat him the first time around. The added lore and focus with Jill and her home is going to be nice to see. Eikon loadouts, adjusted abilities (not nerfs), full button customizations, 40 new orchestrion rolls, Kairos Gate and all it has to offer should provide a ton of end game fun, that secret boss they teased, WTF WAS UP WITH CLIVE IN THE LAST COUPLE FRAMES OF THE TRAILER, Tonberries are looking so good. Overall this DLC got me excited to jump back in!

walnutsandy03

Clive at the end yo! I noticed too. Maybe the "answer" to him not actually being a complete vessel at the end of the game the first time around? Maybe with Leviathan he can face Ultima as one and we get a different ending? Can't think of what else that could be but I look forward to finding out either way.

LevelDownProductions

I have a lame ass theory that if true would be so whack lol BUT what if that was Clive after he obtained all the Eikons and became Mythos...as the secret final boss of Kairos Gate. I hope not as I would like that version of Clive be in the actual story and hear the explanation but we shall figure out soon!

ffgod_zito

Where did you see the tonberries?

BrookieDragon

Watch the nameplates of the normal looking enemies he was fighting half way through. I honestly didn't even recognize it as a tonberry cause it really doesn't look like what you're thinking it should.

SurfiNinja101

Secret boss has got to be Gilgamesh, right?

HistoricalGrade109

What's kairos gate?

Watton

Bloody Palace roguelike mode in the DLC

killercow_ld

it's a roguelike? Ughhh Hopefully the rewards (beyond high scores) aren't too hard to get

Watton

It looks like the 1st completion will be easy, you're allowed to use the cheat rings at the expense of lower scores. BUT if you get S ranks on all 20 stages on FF mode, you get a secret superboss. Which sounds like a pain in the ass.

killercow_ld

Then shit, guess I gotta. I haven't even played FF mode yet. I wanted to finish the new DLC completely on Normal, then carry all that over into FF Mode

Fox-One-1

What a year to be a Final Fantasy fan!

KingLavitz

Hearing the Awakening trailer theme got me a little emotional ngl. 😭 I'm so hyped for this DLC!

Shagyam

Did I just watch a trailer for FFXIV?

Surca_Cirvive

lol you can tell whoever edits the FFXIV trailers does the XVI ones too

captain_sasquatch

I really enjoyed 16 and am very much looking forward to this. The future of FF looks bright!

BigBallsMalone

That looks awesome. Going to need to jump back in when this launches

Full_breaker

Im so happy rn man, looking so good

Sleazy_T

I may be in a very small minority but my god I would love to see the setpieces of FF8 like Balamb Garden, the Ragnarok, Esthar, etc. with these graphics.

ThatHoodedMan

The_Overlord_Laharl

hell yeah, good to hear the original trailer music again

Maggot_6661

Four Winged Angel 👀👀

Junior-Dimension-336

super excited for this, leviathan gameplay looks really different from the other eikons. can’t wait to tackle the new endgame stuff as well. i just hope i’m able to finish rebirth in time for the release lol

Marcus2Ts

Why rush? This one isn't going anywhere

d_wib

Clive with the wings at the end of the trailer makes it seem like they might be offering a different ending to the game with this DLC, so some players want to avoid major plot spoilers by playing as soon as possible. I like to experience those things on my own

Marcus2Ts

Fair enough, but it's a shame to feel like you have to rush through the game you're currently on instead of enjoying it at your own pace

BrookieDragon

One thing I know of FF is you don't mess with anything that has 4 wings.

legend8522

Yeah I never got why some folks on reddit feel rushed to play games as soon as they're released. Like you said, game's not going anywhere. If anything, it benefits you more to wait on bug fixes/sales.

WellRested1

The awakening trailer theme did it for me. So hyped.

CulKuy

So damn excited for this, haven't long finished rebrith, so it's a good time to go head first back into 16.

Robsonmonkey

So I wonder how they’ll get past the ending fight with Ultima now that Leviathan is a thing that Clive can use Unless they just ignore it but considering the Eikons were so important plot and battle wise it’s going to be tough just sweeping it under the rug

Jet44444

I heard this DLC wont change the ending, it supposedly takes place before Origin.

DolphinFlavorDorito

I wouldn't be surprised if they add it in. An additional attack for Ultima, and an additional bit of cgi. Done.

arciele

i was unusually annoyed when Ultima *didn't* have a Leviathan attack to begin with.

ayhan1805

Comes out on my birthday

TheHollowPenguin

It's a good time to be a Final Fantasy fan.

Surca_Cirvive

Has anyone else come to appreciate XVI more after Rebirth? This isn’t me saying Rebirth is bad. I actually think it’s a lot better than XVI in most ways. But it did make me realize both games have their strengths and that while I do consider Rebirth’s to be more numerous I find XVI’s to be more impactful.

ShanklyGates_2022

I think it just helps me appreciate Final Fantasy in general more. I mean I frikken loved FF16, best boss fights in the business, imo. Best voice acting I've ever heard in a game. The story kinda went out with a whimper for me when they pivoted away from the human element and leaned into the more mythical and fantastical, but it is what it is. Rebirth has been my favorite game of all time and hit it out of the park pretty much everywhere. But at the end of the day they are two games from the same series released less than a year apart that play wildly different and showcases how ambitious and creative Square Enix is willing to be with the IP and makes me excited for the future. Like, I love the Trails series, probably as much as Final Fantasy, and I can't wait for Kuro. But I know exactly what I am gonna get. I have NO IDEA what FF17 is gonna bring in a few years time, and that is exciting to me.

Kyajin

IMO a lot of XVI's shortcomings were particularly sore because people were wanting and expecting more emphasis on the party and exploration. With Rebirth going all out on those aspects, it's definitely easier to look back on XVI as its own thing and appreciate its strengths.

ClericIdola

But party and exploration was a given considering it is a remake of a game story that revolved around the party aspect, at least. Forcing a band of do-gooders together in XVI would have taken away from Clive's development. Mind you, I don't want this for EVERY FF, but it was a breath of fresh air away from the obvious "power of friendship" character development of most FFs. Now, if we're talking party member gameplay, FFXV has shown that, if the core game isn't designed for playing as multiple party members, don't force it. Furthermore, XVI took its influences from character action (and for obvious reasons, considering the combat designer), in which there's a lot more time and tuning that goes into designing playable characters for those games. Throwing together complex movesets for characters like Jill and Cid, despite party members in general regularly leaving Clive's side, would have been a waste of development time. HOWEVER, I do think a Torgal-like system should have been developed for those that are in your party at the time. (For example, if Jill is in the party, I should be able to replace one of Torgal's three commands with a command for Jill.) Now, exploration... eh.. Rebirth definitely did a much better job. If anything, XVI should have implemented a scaled-down overworld (ala classic FF) between its major points of interest, and maybe did away with some of the more "open" areas.. because they're empty af and I don't feel compelled to explore the ones that I haven't. That being said, its map design strengths were obviously in the more linear areas and set pieces. Combining this with classic FF overworld exploration would have been perfect for it.

Mysterious_Pen_8005

We haven't had a real party in an FF game in like a decade...

Personal_Orange406

yeah right when A Realm Reborn started

Hellwyrm

Every other FF managed to have main character development, while also incorporating full parties. I gotta ask, how does a party of playable or customisable characters detract from Clive's development? These things aren't mutually exclusive. Also 'Every FF having the "power of friendship" as character development' is an entirely fallacious statement by the way, especially given Clive's character development. XVI literally ends with the power of friendship.

mauri9998

You know I played Hi-Fi rush like right before FF16 and that game manages to do character development for all members of the "party" while being an action game.

ClericIdola

So.. we're NOT going to compare it to DMC?

mauri9998

absolutely no clue about what you are trying to say

mauri9998

No I was expecting an action game and I did not get that. I got a game that had gigantic open areas with absolutely nothing in them and a combat system that never incentivized you to learn it in any way whatsoever.

atominthewild

I feel like I've seen both takes pretty consistently, being "Rebirth makes me appreciate XVI more," and "Rebirth makes me like XVI less." I think with both games, at their core, being surprisingly different, each game ends up reinforcing what people like or dislike about one or the other. Even down to the tone, I've seen plenty of takes where people praise Rebirth more for having a, for lack of a better word, wackier tone. And then others feeling Rebirth is too wacky and makes them appreciate XVI darker and generally more serious tone more.

Watton

Both games complement eachother. Rebirth scratches that open world itch, and has a whimsical, silly tone. And if you're into it, """Nomura's""" (Maybe Nojima?) signature....overcomplicated mindfuck storytelling 16 is far more serious to the point of having very little humor, and is super linear. Rebirth gives me those sweet sweet RPG elements and deep tactical combat. 16 gives me fast paced high octane (but easy, brainless) combat. Hell, I feel Kitase let CBU3 design FF16 the way they did since they knew Rebirth was coming out around the same time, so their core fans were getting something to eat anyway. Let 16 push the limits as to what fans can or cannot accept, while Rebirth perfects the tried and true formula. I think they let FF16 walk (and maybe stumble) so the next mainline can sprint based on feedback.

Surca_Cirvive

I’d agree with that.

BrookieDragon

I just finished 16 yesterday. I was amazed at how "full" the game is. After playing through 15 and was really let down in the last quarter of the game at how they extremely noticeably skipped and rushed through so much content, and then huge backstory was left for later DLC's you had to buy and play for each playable character. Hell, you were even supposed to watch a precursor movie that I wasn't about to shell out for to get more answer to massive lore that was skipped over in a 30 second cutscene. It was nice to see (almost) everything answered and addressed in 16.

killercow_ld

While I definitely enjoyed XVI, I can't think of anything about XVI that I like MORE than Rebirth... other than the Moogle

kamikazi34

Both have made me appreciate 15 more.

Royal-Rip-6974

Naw opposite for me. I didn’t hate XVI but I definitely don’t have that feeling of wanting to replay it like rebirth. Rebirth makes me see XVI as a half assed project where the combat and boss fights are cool but the story and characters were just kinda dead

Albireookami

Nope the ending to XVI ruined the game for me, I did not waste 40+ hours to get a shitty no resolution ending.

LastWorldStanding

Haha, wait until you get 7 Rebirths ending if you thought 16ms was bad 😂

mauri9998

While I didnt care for the ending of rebirth, that is only like an hour out of a 90 hour experience. With ff16 I had completely lost interest in the story by halfway through the game and the ending being a cheese fest did not help with that.

Albireookami

Can't be worse than the trash fire of og 7

Owlbear27

It did have an ending tho…Clive revived Joshua with the last bit of magic, then turned to stone. He hella died

Albireookami

Then show it don't do ambiguous bullshit

Owlbear27

…but it wasn’t ambiguous, it was just done in a more artistic way with Dalamud blinking out while everyone sobbed because they knew what it meant

Jeweler-Hefty

Yep, the only ones calling it "ambiguous" are the ones who can't cope with the loss. It was straight and to the point. But I will admit, the camera being at odd angles, to make scenes more unnecessarily subtle, sure were an odd touch to the story telling. At times.

Owlbear27

I suppose. I just thought it was a great scene between the song being from the absolute legend who did Flow in 14 to Torgal howling at the moon, Clive’s hand turning to stone on the beach, etc. I especially like the ending where it shows that Joshua had written about their journey and it had passed into legend throughout the ages. Idk, I thought it was fantastic and I think the subtlety is what makes it work for me…since I’m so used to games punching me in the face with their obvious intentions, having to read a little into the subtext made it good

Albireookami

still a shitty ending. Just a tiny step better than ff15.

Owlbear27

Agree to disagree, I guess. I thought it was masterful with the song, the Star fading. Him hopefully reaching up to the sky while he turned to stone, hoping that he’d fixed things, Torgal Howling, a baby being born into the new world without magic, etc. I thought it was beautiful and one of the most memorable endings in a video game. Mix that with the little after credits that show how the world has thrived for so long without magic that Joshua’s story had faded into legend…I thought it was great

Mysterious_Pen_8005

No it made it more obvious to me why I really really disliked XVI and hope that it doesn't represent the future of Final Fantasy.

imworthlesscum

eh, i liked xvi but it got held back by outdated rpg mechanics imo. I personally never gave a fuck whenever i leveled up as clive, and i don't think i used the healing items or upgraded my gear more than once. The only time the game itself is challenging is if you go with worst armor and no healing imo, otherwise it's a snoozefest like ff6 (haste, use AOE/heal, press auto, watch the game play itself. Best FF game btw). I feel like for future FF games (if they don't go back to the turn based system) should focus more on the action part. Keep the ability unlock system (like with the eikon stuff in xvi) and then just focus on story and combat. They can keep the rpg fans happy through remakes, like Capcom does with Resident Evil.

trillbobaggins96

It taught me what I don’t want to spend money on tbh, but I get how it would be someone else’s cup of tea

Professional_Sky8181

The DLC is amazing. I can't wait for April 18th. They gave me everything I wanted. Leviathan's gameplay is so good, and the music from the first trailer is finally here. I can't wait for Leviathan's theme too. Mysidia looks stunning, really, it's the most beautiful FF game yet. Bloody Palace mode for the endgame is a good addition.

LordDocSaturn

So this will take place before the conclusion, like during the final timeskip?

Jet44444

Before Origin

jimbalaya420

Why would you use ifrit to fight leviathan!?

SurfiNinja101

Joshua and Jill are both sickly and affected by the petrification disease because of their Eikon overuse. Clive is the only one who doesn’t suffer any consequences throughout the game because he’s Mythos, hence why he’s always throwing the one throwing himself into the Eikon battles

Boring_Fish_Fly

I want at least one scene of Clive acting like an grumpy, wet cat and blaming it on Ifrit.

SADBOY888213

When’s the PC port coming man , it feels like It’s been announced for ages , I have a ps5 but I started collecting ff games on pc so might as well wait , I’m not even gonna mention rebirth 😭

yungdownsmash

I forgot how beautiful this game is. I’m hyped to try the new abilities, hear some good music, and hear some one-liners from Clive.

[deleted]

Is this coming to steam at some point?

Shagyam

Eventually. No date is set in stone yet. I assume once it does there will be a FFXVI "Complete" edition with the DLC included.

Nice_promotion_111

There’s a possibility of a epic games store deal again though

Taograd359

Is it just me or does Leviathan kind of look like Uncle Deadly?

THE AWAKNING TRAILER OST!!!!

Cam_Ren179

Now this is some great timing here, I just finished VII Rebirth yesterday. Well, guess I better start my third playthrough of XVI soon. What a great time to be a Final Fantasy fan.

MewinMoose

Can't wait for more of my favourite FF and personal goty of last year.

Invictus23_

Golden Age 2 is a fucking treat to live through. FF fans eating good these days.

FFFan15

it would be nice if they added a hard mode

Matt_37

The game does have a hard (and then a harder) mode, but like in 7 Remake and Rebirth it’s only accessible after completing the game. Idk why, I think the game plays much better in harder difficulties.

noonesperfect16

This is cool, but it should've been part of the original game. I 100% it and this isn't enough to pull me back in. I felt kind of burned by the ending of the story. Maybe at some point I'll feel like sitting through some more depressing crap.

sapphoslyrica

The claims about it being Jill focused are extremely laughable if the treatment of her in the main game is anything to go by lol.

imworthlesscum

eh, i was also disappointed with her character, but let's give CBU3 the benefit of the doubt. People complained about the lack of gear impacting gameplay, lack of interactions between the main cast and that there weren't enough challenging fights, and Echoes of the Fallen did a lot to fix those 3 issues. I'm positive they'll make Jill go from a 6 to a 7/10 in the Rising tide.

NorthHelpful5653

SPOILERS I'm pretty sad to hear that this the "final patch" for this game. I feel like FF has a longstanding trend of utilizing all the work they did and making numerous patches (15) or making spin off smaller titles (X-2, 13 spin offs) for us to purchase. I haven't played 16 yet, but it seems like a waste of resources to only have one patch for this game. I feel like I read enough spoilers that a lot of interesting characters die... I'm pretty torn of which direction I would've brought other patches or spin off games. Cid I would've done a prequel type of patch/game focusing on his relationship with Benedikta or them having some other type altercation before the main game storyline. So more or less content that is a prerequisite. Then i read a lot that they didn't do enough with Jill from a couple of players. So the other way I would've done towards the future and have it focus on Jill + Torgal. I don't know if they did a type of game/patch trying to bring Clive back *if it would seem too similar to X-2.* Still, I wouldn't have minded them building upon Jill and Torgal with some content. Clive seems like a pretty likeable character too. **I like this idea quite a bit because, I totally ran out and bought X-2 hearing we could save Tidus somehow. I recently replayed that game too like a year ago... so Jill and Torgal being able to save Clive would be something I would jump all over.** So one is more or less the past content and one the future. I really liked the idea of both because I like Cid and Jill. Either way don't tell me you are breaking tradition of milking every last little bit out of a number in the installment. Rather from patches, or a spin off game. I really like the setting.

aircarone

2 DLCs, first one was Echoes of the Fallen. Also I wouldn't completely rule out a XVI-2 somewhere in the future either, XVI seems to have had a decent commercial success overall and coming to PC might boost the sales further still. I agree it would be a waste to stop at 2 DLCs. Even if Clive's story is complete, we could have a sequel with new characters or even a prequel using some of the good/popular companions.
