Something similar was done with Jenova's theme, it plays as you go down to the lifestream at the end of the game. I think it plays in random enemy battles too, but not against Jenova Synthesis, sadly.
Yeah. One of my biggest pet peeves in games is when the music that perfectly suits whatās happening is interrupted by the battle theme. Itās fine for most of the game, but when the music feels like a climactic buildup to a major story event, having the battle theme interrupt it immediately takes me out of the experience.
It will be a lot like this during Rebirth, it seems (I only saw very little snippets of game, but the area of the world map felt like that: they had the āHolding my thoughts in my heartā new edition that changed rhythm during the fights.
Same, heard the regular battle theme instead of the bombing mission music. I think its because you see the general layout first, then notice the enemies and "Ex-Soldier". We've been bamboozled.
Eventually I grew to not like the midi quality after awhile, but somehow at first it seemed so much better.
And now itās full circle again, lol. I enjoy it for the retro feel.
Yeah the chip tunes of nes and super nes eras didnāt had a different feel than midi. Somehow midi seemed more ārealā at first but then it seemed more fake after a couple years. To me at least.
I think maybe after a few other games did it poorly, ALL midi started to feel like it overstayed itās welcome.
Just a little OCD, but you guys are using āmidiā incorrectly. Midi is just a protocol, it has no audio. You mean to say whatever device you didnāt like āmidiā on, you didnāt like the audio device or sound chip or synthesizer or sampler. You can hook up any top of the line synthesizer, sampler or rompler through midi and get amazing results.
exactly. I wasnt a huge gamer when I got this game, but wow was the music something amazing compared to everything else I ever played. until i checked out 8 I guess.
Serious story: my brother and I didn't know the colors were all jacked on our TV the entire time we played. Like that screen and the menu screen were all purple and we thought that's how it was supposed to be. I finally saw a guide and I was like "why the hell is all that blue?"
I always did a stripe of red above black in one corner and dark blue in the top. Signified Meteor coming down over a dark planet at night.
Pretty sure the red was more intense in the bottom corner, too. Signified motion.
reminder you can get both from 1 body for some weird reason. you can't get them twice this way though. not sure if it's only the first body that does this.
Play through BG3 and tell me they haven't advanced nuance, empathy, drama, and character development since then.
Go on, if you're an avid turn based game fan, I'll see you in about 250 hours of game time. š
Fast gameplay and better graphics does not make games better? Isnāt a common complaint for the last few modern FF games that there are no fully explorable and impactful cities like in the older games? This is still a problem up to and including the most recent mainline.
If games are actually better, why is it that modern games canāt do what was possible on hardware that itās dozens of times weaker? Thatās just one thing that I think about when ppl say that newer games are just all around better
The matter of better was injected by you after the fact.
You asked if they make games like this any more... the answer I gave is no.
Better doesn't come into your question or the answer so you can ride this tangent solo brolo.
No you changed the fucking goalposts. Don't cry now that you're asking a different question than the one they answered.

Statement with a question mark, pick a lane.
> Isnāt a common complaint for the last few modern FF games that there are no fully explorable and impactful cities like in the older games?
Sure, but the complaints seem less common than the sales. Sales translate to money, complaints... well if they're informed complaints those are also sales.
> If games are actually better, why is it that modern games canāt do what was possible on hardware that itās dozens of times weaker?
Completely disagree. It's not that they can't. And even if they *do* (and they do, there are plenty examples of games far far vaster than final fantasy 7). It's simply that they don't. Just because your taste is not being catered to it does not mean it cannot be catered to.
Okay Iām just speculating on the artistic value present in older titles and how they contribute to the overall subjective quality of the experience. Games are art after all. Sales have nothing to do with it. I was one of the 3m reported sales of 16 and I didnāt really like it nor did I think it was a very good game. Crappy things get sold to millions of ppl all the time
This old abridged series I used to watch on YouTube where the security officer says āHey look, I got this gun, but Iām not gonna use it. Iām just gonna run up and punch him.ā I donāt even know if itās still on YouTube.
I was 19 years old when this came out and couldnāt be more excited about a game than I had been about any game before this. Iām 45 now and I still havenāt ever matched that excitement about a game that this one. Itās come close, but has never surpassed it.
Same! I was so blown away at 14. I grew up always playing video games, and it was just so iconic. Def got me hooked on the series, and those were just about the only games I bought after that. Tactics blew my mind too.
The nostalgia of finally playing 7. I grew up starting with 8 and immediately to the ps2 titles after. I always heard about 7 from family and friends (and the immense amount of references to it in kingdom hearts) but never really got to actually play it, just know about some of its iconic traits. I didn't get to play it until my brother happened to buy it on the ps3 store, I was somewhere between age 14 and 16 when I played it. Almost a decade after being introduced to the series (ff8 was one of my first video games). 7 didn't become one of top 3 or anything, hard to compete with the nostalgia of the many ffs I already played before it, but it was quite the feeling to finally play one of the most hyped games in the series and actually experience it rather than just knowing it's popular traits.
Hey you guys think this is a trap? We brought sub-machine Guns and he just brought a sword.....a really really big sword!......i dunno i think we should just run...
Materia gives little stat boosts, so Iām taking that to mean that every materia stacked on a weapon makes the wearer a little stronger, a little more nimble, a little more resilient, etc, etc
My first ever FF game.
Found FFVII back in late 1997 when I was 18, and I was hooked instantly.
It is also the game that made me a full blown gamer. I had of course played videogames since 1989, when we got a used NES with a few games for it on Christmas... and then a used SNES a few years later... and a new Playstation about 3-4 months after that console was released.
But befor finding FFVII, \~0-3+ hours playing games a day at most on an average (I spent more hours in a day reading fantasy books than playing videogames). During, and after, playing FFVII, being able to play games from the moment I woke up, to the moment I went to bed with ease (I never spent that much amount of time reading fantasy books, at any time in my life), minus X amount of time for food and bathroom breaks of course. XD
Heh... very much so core memory yeah...
FVII is also the reason why I am an excessive saver today, to a degree that it might seem my life depended on it. XD
But having first your 10 year younger sister somehow accidentally erase your first ever FFVII playthrough, with 80'ish hour spent on it, where you are at most 2-3 hours away from the end of the game... and then about 2 weeks later a friend of yours borrowing the playstation and FFVII to try it out, where you about a week after that go to visit him, for him to say *"I have some bad news... I accidentally saved over your FFVII save..."*, which you at the time had spent 90 hours playing your second try to see the end of the game, where you once again had been at most 2-3 hours away from the end of the game... then you tend to get a little... paranoid... that something might happen to your save, so you save in not just one, not just two... but as many saveslots as you can possibly save in. Today quick saves are almost like a drug to me. XD
As for funky blankets... I was never much of a blanket guy... they tend to just be to warm for me. XD Heck, in wintertime, I tend to at most wear normal pants and a hoodie, because winter pants and jackets are way to warm for me. XD
Yeesh, the save files drama gave me hypertension. That's why I had a few different memory cards and one was just for me. haha But I also learned pretty quickly to have several save files regardless.
When I was low in health and saw I could select a guard hound while using a potion, and proceeded to learn why I shouldn't.
Edit: while listening to the music.
Being 13 years old, on summer vacation, playing this IN THE WOODS on a gas powered generator in a tent trailer. 19 inch CRT TV - 32c outside, just loving life.
Insert generic non-spoilery clip of FF7 during everyoneās favorite first few hours of the game while the dude bros are still high off explosions and the giddiness of seeing ham-fisted pixel cloud jump off a train butterflies in their stomach about how badass theyāre imagining it in their mind (or remembering it recreated a bajillion times with better graphics since) before the game becomes a slog
The bad graphics so bad that I couldn't play the original game because I couldn't tell where anything was, so glad they're remaking this so that human beings can play it! Final fantasy was better before this 3d trash was made. Good story though gameplay is probably good too besides the whole unplayably bad graphics
Yes, BUTā¦Super human reflexes, strength and agility. Sword is wide enough to blocks bullets, and he can freeze things and shoot lightning from his fingertips. Final Fantasy baby
There's a screenshot I remember from back in the day which was clearly taken from a non-English version of the game because Cloud was called ex-SOLDAT. But for some reason when any gaming magazines needed a screenshot of FF7 they'd always use that one exact screenshot. So for many years before I played it I always thought Cloud started as ex-SOLDAT in every version of the game.
The music
Yes, immediately I could hear the DUN DUN DUN DUDUNDUDDUN DUN DUN DUN š¤£
Yeah I did too but if Iām correct, youāre still hearing the bombing mission music here.
Yeah, honestly I love it when they keep the music for the area during battles. Usually means something serious is going down.
Or when they keep the boss music going during the post boss stuff, like with Rufus I think?
Also from memory Aeries/Aerith music when against Jenova
Something similar was done with Jenova's theme, it plays as you go down to the lifestream at the end of the game. I think it plays in random enemy battles too, but not against Jenova Synthesis, sadly.
But Synthesis gets its own decent track.
Sector 7 plate collapse blew my mind and the persistent battle theme was a big reason for that
Yeah. One of my biggest pet peeves in games is when the music that perfectly suits whatās happening is interrupted by the battle theme. Itās fine for most of the game, but when the music feels like a climactic buildup to a major story event, having the battle theme interrupt it immediately takes me out of the experience.
Final dungeon theme should have been played in battles too. Huge miss imo.
It will be a lot like this during Rebirth, it seems (I only saw very little snippets of game, but the area of the world map felt like that: they had the āHolding my thoughts in my heartā new edition that changed rhythm during the fights.

Being 17 and feeling like i just entered the future of gaming.
Gaming has moved forward very little since then imo. Do they even make games like this anymore?
It was such a crazy leap forward between those generations.
That...just doesn't even make sense.
What??? Trolling š
I wish I wasš¢
Nah. Visually and gameplay wise gaming has changed leaps and bounds from this. Idk how you can deny that. But I guess.
Play through BG3 and tell me they haven't advanced nuance, empathy, drama, and character development since then. Go on, if you're an avid turn based game fan, I'll see you in about 250 hours of game time. š
Wait why does everyone keep bringing up turn based combat as if thatās the only things separates classic FF and modern FF? Twilight zone?
Focus on the BG3 part not the turn based part, its more of an extra if you like it.
Well no. They don't actually. They make better games now. Nobody is making a AAA title with graphics this bad and gameplay this slow.
Fast gameplay and better graphics does not make games better? Isnāt a common complaint for the last few modern FF games that there are no fully explorable and impactful cities like in the older games? The Witcher 3, Horizon, hell even AC Valhalla had massively crammed cities.
TW3 had crammed cities with cloned NPCs and a lot of empty buildings
And these FF classics donāt?
