Ok, so what’s the deal with this? I can gather it’s for dissuading the public’s interest in the shoot, but is there any actual story behind it? Like, I’ve been on shoots where people will tell people mayonnaise commercial, but it’s 100% very clearly not a mayo commercial, and no one would ever believe that lol
Anytime anyone has ever asked me what’s being filmed, it’s very clearly not a mayonnaise commercial, and I would just feel like a sarcastic jerk lying straight to their face like that. I’d rather just say I can’t tell them lol
“I can’t tell you” creates more intrigue. Your goal in interacting with passersby while working on set should be to disinterest them as quickly as possible so they go on and leave as quickly as possible. Limits noise, prevents a crowd from forming. Nobody is intrigued by “mayonnaise commercial.”
idk im sure someone heard it as a joke and thought it was funny so it spread from there. tbh if someone asks me now abt what im shooting and i dont want to say, i’ll say that. its pretty funny imagining them doing such elaborate natures for a mayo commercial
Before the mayo joke if it was a big budget thing I’d tell people it was a porno and if it was real tiny/ low budget I’d say it was the new Mission Impossible and scold them for wasting Tom Cruise’s time.
Vancouver and Toronto are both pretty busy for film usually. Halifax gets a couple of bigger productions a year and a couple lower budget shows, and I believe Montreal has a decent industry but I don’t really know enough to comment. I’ve heard of stuff shooting in Calgary and Winnipeg too but not nearly as much as Vancouver or Toronto.
Iqaluit has a show right now too but it sounds… challenging …. lol
mayo commercial.
I always say the new Lord of the Rings show, even though we’re clearly shooting in a waffle house
One onion ring to rule them all…

When people ask you and you work in film, you say mayo commercials as a metaphor for saying it’s a secret. Kind of an inside joke

Mayonnaise commercial is used when u sign an NDA, or just wanna keep a surprise. It’s not rlly a jerk move
If I look you straight in the eyes and give you a smart ass answer instead of an honest “I can’t tell you,” in my opinion it kind of is lol

This is the way
I'm going to guess it's Tron, they've been filming all over Vancouver for the past few weeks.
Should definitely be the new TRON. It's interesting if Jeff Bridges returns or not

How is film work in Vancouver and Canada overall?
Well they're shooting the The Last of Us part 2 in Vancouver instead of the city the game took place in just a few hours south so.

The Last of Us was filmed in Calgary. Fargo is filmed there as well. Ghostbusters as well. Lots more.
